I had fun with this one a few years back, new B&C starter, 1 gauge wire, battery and solenoid later and almost 2 grand and she started right up. Nothing sprinkling a little money on didn't fix.
Bryce what do you think about doing A&P as a second career? Can you get a job in this trade working day or swing shift? Or realistically does everyone have to start on night shift for years? I worked mids for 10 years in my current career and although I’m in good shape, my body can no longer tolerate midnights.
Im taking my powerplant practical in 3 weeks, would you recommend i watch youtube videos on different practicals, or does UA-cam not really help? Im gonna get practice with the projects hands on with an instructor, but im just wondering if youtube will be any help.
Next time you start a motor give more than 0.1 seconds after you yell clear before you hit the starter. Also, I 100% know you didn't check the area around the prop before you started it. No, looking 5 minutes ago isn't gonna cut it. LOOK at the prop area, call CLEAR and wait a few seconds THEN hit the button. If someone is back there yelling clear and then immediately starting is of no value/benefit at all. Also you didn't say if they were lead acid, LiOn or NiCad. Lead acid is the cheapest, but worst source for constant voltage... if you are using lead acid tell your Dr. Buddy to invest in LiOn or NiCad since he's using an electronic ignition and needs a more constant voltage.
I'll concede that It's a good idea to wait longer before cranking, but off camera wiel standing outside the aircraft looking at the prop I turned on the master so the avionics could boot up, then hopped in and within 30 secs cranked the engine. Also, as the camera is in my lap, you can't see that I'm looking over my shoulder at the prop when I yell clear. Also, the battery charger is for a concord battery, so yes, it's a lead acid concord. I did suggest that he upgrade it since it's experimental.
Lot of those have late model small block Chevy engines in them, seems like a better and cheaper option to a real aircraft engine for a lot of reasons You have hundreds of mods you can do by changing cams, ignition, fuel etc
I haven’t dealt with many electronic ignitions in our shop, but we do get a few. Good information to add to my memory bank. Thanks!
