    Oregon is such a wonderful place for rockhounding. I'm fortunate that my ag job brings me to a lot of places. There are some areas where you can't take a few steps without finding at least a little granule of agate.

      Thank You. 🙂 I worked really hard on the videography for that video. I tried my best at the time to blend my steady cam and and drone footage into a cohesive shot. Everything was filmed within 10 miles of home. Welcome to the channel and thank you for subscribing.

    Congratulations! Very nice video. *Have you ever found fossils in this type of rock?* 13:15 This stone is very similar to what I found when I was a child in my grandparents' area in Romania, at the foot of the Carpathians. Many such red-brown rocks contained inside fossils of snails with flat and conical shells, and even extraordinarily beautiful coral polyps that covered the entire surface of the rock, which had an orange color.

    I have a beautiful piece of carnelian agate, that I have been wanting to rough polish for the longest time, but I have been so scared to mess it up, because I have no tools, not even a dremel or a whetstone, all I have is wet sanding paper. But I am so scared I will mess the stone up. Do you think sand paper alone would be enough? You have been giving me a bit of courage, but I am still scared to do it. Or should I wait till I can get a dremel? Thank you so much for this video. 🌸🌸🌸

      This hunt was on the Rogue River. The rogue is north along 101 at Gold Beach. Gold Beach is a short 30 minute drive from Brookings. Most of my videos are filmed on the rogue. The south bank of the Rogue has a few dozen publicly accessible gravel bars. Thank you for watching. It means a lot to us that people like what we're doing.

    • @DavidBriggsAdventures
      @DavidBriggsAdventures 3 місяці тому

      The great lakes region is full of awesome rockhounding spots. It's just hard to resist the lure of the wild rivers coast. There's just something about ice blue water flowing over quartz boulders and the impossibly vibrant green of an old growth forest in the rainy season. Every part of the country has a place that connects on an emotional level for someone. I've come to love where I film. No matter how tough my life is as a cancer and memory caregiver, I can find a sense of peace in the forest. I get out into nature to deal with the emotional trauma of what I do. It's a bit heavy but we all have a story. That's my life. I see people through their last struggles to survive and be present as they meet their creator as they leave this expression of life.

    • @DavidBriggsAdventures

      If you have a water drip going then you can crank it up. If not, then medium speed and frequently wet the stone to keep it cool.

      @@DavidBriggsAdventures I'm sorry to hear that. Thanks for replying to my comment. I just spawned as a rockhound not long ago- I'm hooked! I'm sure you have plenty of rocks to cut, but if you want some, let me know. I live by Salem, OR, not sure where you are, I think I saw on one of your videos it mentioned Curry County. Love that area. I especially enjoyed your carnelian agate video, that is my favorite rock to find right now. They sure are beautiful. Question: with the banding, I know ever rock is different, but if a rock in sliced on the banding, is there a chance the banding is thick enough for the banding to be on more than one slice?

    • @DavidBriggsAdventures
      @DavidBriggsAdventures 4 місяці тому

      The banding is a lot like the layers of a jaw breaker. Imagine coating the inside of a jug with colored paint and letting dry before adding a different color and letting it dry. Repeat the process until the inside of the jug is filled. That's how agates are formed, except with chalcedony in a void in a rock.@@jasond6770

    • @jasond6770
      @jasond6770 4 місяці тому

      @@DavidBriggsAdventures Amazing, thanks! I think that is why I'm so facinated by the banding, it is so unique on each stone, not two banding patters are the exact same that I have seen. Thanks for the information. Did you learn this on your own, or did you study geology?
