  • Kinda cool finds from filming trips that didn't seem to make it into a video. We film a few thousand hours of footage every year and only a small fraction makes it.
I have hours of footage from a nearby World Heritage Site and still don't have enough to do it justice.
A lot of thought goes into making these videos. We work hard to avoid the copy game. Nothing wrong with doing slab 'n' cab but it gets creepy when everyone is making the same stuff at the same time.
I've got a bunch of lapidary projects in the wings, but need to get through the New Year before we can set up machinery. Be patient. There's some really exciting changes coming. We had some major life events happen, and we needed some time to process that as a couple. We're managing that as best we can. We're making 300 mile round trips to the doctor for J's treatment.
As a result, we may be looking for a place closer to civilization. We love the wild landscape, but 1/4 tank of gas to get groceries is wearing thin on both of us. We also miss being connected to an LGBT community.
It's all going to work out at some point. We just need to be in a place that provides us the best conditions to live a happy life.

Great finds David! Love the multi colored fancy jaspers! It's so cool seeing the giant boulders of silicates frozen in time, laying in the river bed. Adds a lot of character to the place.

Hi David, you definitely are amongst some stunning pieces, the first one, then the green one from beside the weeds and that yellow one at the end, all great pieces and that large boulder of green chalcedony is awesome. You are in a great spot that makes me a little envious but the is the way it goes.
    Keep Safe & Keep Rockin.
I hope you & your family have a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.

Here's a question I never ask on a rockhounding video because it's pretty much pointless to point out something that wasn't pointed out. But, at 1:05 it looks like you put that chalcedony bit down on what appears to be a good sized chunk of mostly black petrified wood, you can see the grains when you spray it off. Is that just some basalt maybe with ripples in it, or do you get stuff that looks like that out there?

It's bedrock. Black petrified wood is definitely possible. Any number of volcanic, landslide, or flood events could have very easily buried natural burn wood to begin petrifaction. I showed a few pieces of natural burn petrified wood in a couple of videos. Usually found when the subject wood is fully encapsulated in an anerobic substance such as river clay and silts.
