I spawned as a rockhound in 2018 at the age of 63! I got in a few good hounding trips that year but have been foiled by bad joints and surgeries ever since. I've got to get over your way, David, and have been hoping to do so for a couple of years now. Maybe it will happen this year. Do you know of a good dog friendly place to stay in Gold Beach?
Thank you for this wonderful video. I love hearing you describe all the details of the rocks and their possible uses, including just plain fun to look at.
I hope you and J are doing well. Take care. 🙏🏻

Oregon is such a wonderful place for rockhounding. I'm fortunate that my ag job brings me to a lot of places. There are some areas where you can't take a few steps without finding at least a little granule of agate.

Old trekking poles work great for the scoop/rake/river crossing tool. I always seem to find 1 abandoned trekking pole out in the woods and could never figure out what to do with it.... perfect rock scooper and it's telescoping so it can change length. 👍

I've had a few attempts but my health is failing me. I have trouble with arthritis from falling off a debris pile at ground zero. I'm doing the best I can. I want to try cutting to continue my channel but it depends on my health.

@@DavidBriggsAdventures I'm sorry to hear that. Thanks for replying to my comment. I just spawned as a rockhound not long ago- I'm hooked! I'm sure you have plenty of rocks to cut, but if you want some, let me know. I live by Salem, OR, not sure where you are, I think I saw on one of your videos it mentioned Curry County. Love that area. I especially enjoyed your carnelian agate video, that is my favorite rock to find right now. They sure are beautiful. Question: with the banding, I know ever rock is different, but if a rock in sliced on the banding, is there a chance the banding is thick enough for the banding to be on more than one slice?

    • @DavidBriggsAdventures

The banding is a lot like the layers of a jaw breaker. Imagine coating the inside of a jug with colored paint and letting dry before adding a different color and letting it dry. Repeat the process until the inside of the jug is filled. That's how agates are formed, except with chalcedony in a void in a rock.@@jasond6770

@@DavidBriggsAdventures Amazing, thanks! I think that is why I'm so facinated by the banding, it is so unique on each stone, not two banding patters are the exact same that I have seen. Thanks for the information. Did you learn this on your own, or did you study geology?
