In this video explainer, I explain how seam agates are formed. I also speak on how different types of agates are formed in circumstances similar to pure seam agate examples.
Banding structure only exists in Agate and Onyx due to the specific circumstances of their formation. In essence, the only difference is opacity. It is generally accepted science that elemental intrusion of silica rich fluid dictates the color of the band in agate, or chalcedony nodule.
In onyx, those bands are expressed as nearly opaque.
The glowing effect of agate is observed when light is absorbed at different wavelengths causing a "glow" as light travels through the stone at different rates based on the depths of color and opacity. This effect may me increased with polish, or liquid saturation of the surface of the stone.
thank you. for sharing your knowledge and the visuals are so helpful
Glad it was helpful!
You just helped me identify and understand one of my mystery stones, thank you!
Thank you, David. I always enjoy a quick lesson from you on gemstone formation. I became familiar with seam and plume agates at Graveyard Point, just surface picking what others didn't want after excavating the larger veins. I enjoy their unique qualities.
You make things so easy. No fuss and straight to the point
David always appreciate your videos and the information you pass on - thank you
So nice of you
Beautiful stones thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you so much for your wisdom. That one agate had such a great smile. 😂
Glad you enjoyed it
Love it
Love it. I have a 16 pound seam agate
David: any way I can send you pictures for your help in my identification of a couple of stones?
I have a question! I have an agate that I really love and it’s fairly large, almost the size of my palm. It’s been polished and everything but I recently dropped it on accident and it did chip on some places. I’m wondering where can I go to get this maybe buffed out? I’m not sure if that would be a jeweler? Or would I need to find someone like you who specializes in this?
Great question. Some Jewelers do lapidary work, but not all. Jewelers are similar to doctors in that they often specialize in specific aspects of the trade. Stone cutting, gold, silver, glasswork..... Check online for a local lapidary club, or gemologist.
@@DavidBriggsAdventures thank you so much, I really appreciate it, I had I know idea there was a name for it! This really helps me narrow my search down. 💙
Hope u & your family are safe from the fire 🔥 🙏.
We love the excitement of rocks and your utter rude and delusional comments on our UA-cam channel, proper hard ain't you fella.
I'm just allowing the world to see you as you are as opposed to who you purport to be.
I still have more subscribers with less equipment for a reason. Perhaps through counseling you may identify those personal issues.
And yes sweetheart, I'm a right propper hard one. Don't have to do anything but tell the truth.
