Hi, I'm Mark... aka mixPHANTOM! I've been mixing, mastering, producing and restoring audio for 30+ years. My plan for this channel is to make a repository of useful stuff to know... along with tests, analysis and audio production techniques. I have been making "video notes" for my own reference for years because I like to fully explore my tools and techniques - so I thought I'd "up" my production value and start a UA-cam channel! Thanks for checking it out!

I just got Synth V, it's so much better than I thought it would be, your videos are great.
If anyone has managed to get a powerful rock voice out of this. Would you let me know how you did it please? All I've managed to get is soft generic vocals.
AFAIK NineZero is the only rock oriented voice library. I suppose you've tried the "power" voices with some vocal production techniques doubling, saturation etc.?
I got Synth V recently and I have a lot to learn, but your channel has been extremely helpful. Subscribed!
A handy list of phonemes is available on the Synth V WEBSITE.
Grandeur
I love your videos. One thing I don't understand is that you delayed or advanced tracks for doubling in Synthesizer V but then used free warping in Cubase, which seems like you would be counteracting the timing differences that you originally wanted. Can you tell me what I'm misunderstanding?
Ha! I don't know... force of habit? The idea is to create enough random differences in Synth V so they're not phasing and doing a "rough" realignment with free warping to tighten up the backings - it's not likely the audio files will ever get warped back into exact phase. Also, I'm assuming that a large percentage of viewers are determined to do all vocal work in Synth V as they aren't DAW savvy. ;-)
@@mixphantom0101 thank you. Maybe you are mostly free warping the beginning notes of phrases, rather than the whole phrase?
@@barryreynolds1949 Yes, I also usually make sure the backing singers phrases all end together too or at least with or before the lead vocal.
How did you create that video? Thanks
She can be made to do a pretty effective male vocal as well.
Mark, this is truly epic! Thank you for sharing your creative journey and bringing this great song to life. Whether you start with Schillinger, Scaler or Suno, SVS is an incredibly powerful tool to turn ideas into reality. Solaria (Emma's voice) adapts to various styles and genres. By embracing her (the voice, not the tool) unique characteristics, we can set clear expectations and achieve truly remarkable results. And this is coming from a person trying to write prog ala DT, Tool, Tesseract, Rubber Tea.
Great result! 🙂
Super !
Nice one Mark! BTW not sure what you mean when you said SUNO made this version in less than a minute. Can you explain what you mean? You already had the music! What did SUNO do extra? Interested to know. Thanks Mark
Yeah a little confusing! I had made the song using VST tools so still mostly my creation. All in it probably took me 3 or 4 hours to have a whole song. This version was me putting the lyrics in SUNO and making a prompt... it took SUNO 30 secs to make a version I liked better, so I extracted the bits and produced the track with my own sounds and Solaria!
@@mixphantom0101 Ahh... right, understood. That's similar to what I've doing for the last month or so. Unfortunately it takes me a lot longer than hours! 🤣🤣
Great song! I have an increasing number of songs with Solaria, some I had been sitting on for years. It's truly incredible what Dreamtonics has done with Synth V. I really hope they make a choir version to compete with East West Choirs which is very convoluted and nonintuitive.
Great sounding Vocal For Synth V.....
Dreamtonic s and eclipse studio voice banks all sound great with synth v AI pitch enhancement
I use the same Maxwells tapes! (Just kidding! Great song!) Keep on Keeping On! Gianni❤
Incredible! Well done.
Hey how do you get the consonants to display in the wave form? I must have gone over every setting and window trying to find it, also thanks for making these videos just bought the full version recently and been doing a deep dive on tour videos this afternoon
To be clear: Originally performed by Jackson 5 (Michael Jackson)
Have you figured out how to make raspy vocals? Have any thoughts? I use a Dynamite type VST which helps a lot, but it would be nice to get a really rough sounding vocal, like Janis Joplin, or Ronnie James Dio, etc. any suggestions?
Not really... Vocoflex seemed like an potential winner but it falls apart with gritty voices.
Yeah same here. I love Synth V, but the soft vocals are a hard sell for Metal, although I am doing okay with it.
@@mixphantom0101Thanks! Keep up the great dives!
Vocaloid is easier to use, than this program Such a pain in the neck
Great tutorial, thank you very much!
Final update? Last update ever?
How can make the vocal more raspy ?
I haven't found any tricks - I actually think some voices have a "growl" articulation.
Mark, what a terrific video, thank you. I was thinking, have you ever talked about how you emulate other singers' styles? For example how would you approach someone like Maynard from Tool, where he stretches out words. SVS vocal modes gives you the soft to powerful performance, and the phonemes gets you so of far. any ideas?
Thanks. I actually think it's up to the voice library developers to build that sort of thing into the "aspirations".
@@mixphantom0101 After playing some more with SVS, I realized that it is easy to get trapped in the options paralysis web. I am embracing Emma's characteristics to develop scratch tracks with SVS. I kept coming back to intent, narrative and emotion. Anywho. Thank you, what a journey!
Another excellent video Mark! I have seen these options when I've been working with SVS and is something that's been on my To Do list. So this video will help with my understanding when I look into it. Thanks Mark 😎👍
I actually got the idea whilst working on a real singer's vocal in Spectralayers! I should probably do that video too!
Ahhhhhh ... GREAT video!! I've noticed when I compress Solaria's vocals, there's alot of hiss. THIS method will help out a TON. Thanks so much for pointing this out and going over it :)
Bro, I have strugles how double vocals 😑😑. Any Idea?
Check out my video "Synthesizer V - Backing Vocals"
Thank you ❤❤ @@mixphantom0101
it never occurred to me to swit\ch the phase on the aspirations. Thanks for the tip. Nice segment.
super insightful, thank you for sharing! i was really surprised by all the useless low freq info in the aspiration track. will definitely be filtering that out from now on!

Wow.... you make these often? Amazing!!!!
What an amazing video thank you for sharing....... Well done to dreamtonic for allowing this....
Brilliant! Long time ago I noticed that putting a limiter on the master bus I needed to put a de-esser on the main voice. Also compressors, they compress the peaks and the gain lifts up all low level noises, in a voice that means breaths, that I use to separe on a different track with real vocalists bfore compressing. Last year I upgraded Melodyne to v5 because it separates s and consonants allowing the user to control their levels separately from the words in between, so you spot a common problem in mixing in this video! Having the option in Synth V is great, and you show that with the usual analytic perfection. Now we might ask Dreamtonics to produce a plugin that does this separation on real vocal tracks: if they developed synthesized aspirations they should be also in the best position to analyse (by AI perhaps)
Great review. I've only had Synth V for about 3 weeks and quickly learned to manage the aspirations separately. Overall, great product though!
Thanks mate !!
please do a tutorial, about installing this thing. Nothing works, in or out of my DAW. No voices, and I purchased a pack of voices. It is so frustrating!!!!!
DAW integration is only available with the "Pro" version and only DAWs that support ARA. There is a VST plugin version of Synth V but it's too basic to be of any real use - importing to/from the standalone is best.
Such a great tutorial. Thank you for doing these!
Ai understands ai better
.G .r eight advice tysm 😂
7:39 thats the most interesting part like how less robotic it sounded at 8:55
In my opinion, the automation done in SynthV sounds more natural. In addition I can change my lyrics in the last minute 😃
Yes, internal blending is better as Synth V can keep the phase locked between voices. I only use Synth V for backing vocals so my workflow is much faster and more flexible. Also, it's useful to hear the voice blends under compression, EQ etc.
Will it do Indian songs bollywood type ?
I tried change small tiny pirch variations and time variations, then it sound horrible 😢
It takes a few attempts to find the "sweet spot"
Your voice is warmful. 👍
Woah, I hadnt seen this feature. Awesome help. I actually really like your own vocal too.
Thank you soooo much for this clean demo. I struggle finding one not sounding creepy, even on official demos changing parameters each single seconds. Your video made me think that I definitely need this tool !
Great video, and with original ideas. From the Dreamtonics youtube video, I had the idea of recording myself with a big smile while singing, than run Natalie and perhaps injecting even a small smile on her singing (a vocal mode that does not exist), so my first idea was to have Natalie sing and possibly improve her expression. I didn't think of recording myself to improve MY voice and have it sing in tune as Saros does..
I'm sure every person out there is anxiously awaiting the amazing ability to transform their voice into their OWN voice again??? I mean, I doubt if there's anyone out there would like to have their voice transformed into a variety of female singers or different male voices in different octaves and different blends thereof. What a waste of time it would have been to show us how to do THAT. The only thing that's actually helpful here are the comments that say how difficult it is to get registered with these people and how it could be used to make deep fakes. Which you just did.
I was late to the party and others had already done the male to female demos so my thought was the best way to test the ability of the voice changer is to see if it would maintain my voice if I gave it my voice - in theory if it can't do that, it's hardly going to change my voice into Peter Gabriel's! 😎
Gret job, as usual, thank
Thank you!! This stuff was a little bit more intuitive with Vocaloid so I was having a hard time figuring out fries (outside of that 5-specific vocal fry overlay we had actual glottal stop phonemes and stuff), and you explained this all pretty well! I didn't even know pau existed!
