Demon's Souls, Elden Ring, and the rest of the Soulsborne games, content!
I appreciate all aspects of the Fromsoft games so you might see a bit of everything, but I'm currently really focusing on comparison content (Elden Ring 1.00 vs post-release, Elden Ring callbacks to previous games, Berserk references, etc)

One of the things I don't like about Elden Ring is that the boss fight arenas are too big and the bosses tend to jump away and you have to run after them just for them to do it again and again.
DodecaBertooooooooo!
My gut feeling as I was playing this is that they are developing Sekiro 2. It’s not uncommon for From Software to leave hints/design similarities to a DLC and the next game that is in development as the same time as the DLC. Example: Manus has vast similarities to a lot of Bloodborne bosses like Cleric beast. Then there the hand that teleports you and Chester’s dialog. In this DLC I got huge Sekiro vibes similar to this: Fighting large animals, a horseback boss, focus on snakes and insects, themes of reincarnation/gods, and yes the fragment system.
-Saying SOTE did something better --> flirting -Saying SOTE did something worse --> sexual harrassment Know the difference.
Amazing video! But I can't help but wonder, what the the DLC's "1.0" version like
Great video. I definitely agree about the Research Hall vs. Specimen Storehouse! "There were other ways to make [Bayle's] presence known, apart from Igon screaming about him". This is how I feel about Elden Ring's design & atmosphere in general. The whole thing is kind of big & bland compared to their past games, with less subtle signposting. It often lacks that specificity of atmosphere that the older titles are drenched in. Even something as small as the Cleric Beast's scream at the start of Bloodborne rarely enters into the sound design. Elden Ring has memorable moments for sure, but the cramped, claustrophobic, intricately curated levels of the older games far surpasses them imo.
I’m glad that my first experience with Radahn was post patch cause the fight seemed a lot more enjoyable than pre patch
Great video!😮
😊 TY! I traded in the first version towards getting the latest version combined with the DLC.
I guess motherfuckers such as yourself will always be ungrateful smh
I disagree with almost everything here, but hey to each their opinion.
Actually, the Patches / Tonsil Stone thing isn't a bug. It's so you can't miss the tonsil stone. From a lore perspective, it means he's literally stalking you from when you reach the Forbidden Woods. And as he seems to know and understand the Nightmare Frontier, the Mensis Ritual, the chalice dungeons, and the Amygdala, it's safe to assume he can infiltrate any house he wants.
i lost in NNN because of you
YOU CAN PARRY THE PIGS??? 10 years later and i still learn new stuff about this game, absolutely insane.. i also have over 15 playthroughs of bloodborne fml. I just assumed they can’t be parried and never tried lol
If you don't count the empty space it's still bigger than limgrave
Hunter got them cheeks 0:33
I havent watched the vid and before I swipe this channel from my recommendations, I just wanna ask: why? Why do people want to make such videos or name them like this? Simple click baiting? I do hope so.
Let's just play a thought experiment here: I assume you've never come across my channel before, so you read the title of the video and see the thumbnail; your first thought is "how can older Fromsoft content be better than the latest release?" Why is that your thought? That's not the premise of the video, I'm simply looking at ONE detail from every DLC that I feel Fromsoft has done better than they did in SOTE. People can LIKE the DLC, even think it's a masterpiece, and you could *still* find things to criticize about it. There's no truly flawless game out there, doesn't matter how much hype and sales it has. Now I personally DON'T like this DLC, but I made the same premise video for the base game, which I did like, and people STILL assumed I hated it just due to what I considered to just be a fun idea, and an analytical look back on certain things Fromsoft did well in the past and sort of just abandoned or didn't do as well because the probably skipped some steps of the thought process that made them good. Now as for your question about clickbait: unless they have a super artistic thumbnail or whatever, what UA-cam videos *aren't* trying to "clickbait" you? It doesn't *have* to be a negative connotation, UA-camrs are just doing their job and trying to get you to be interested in a video topic. Now yes there's videos that maybe have a more polarizing topic, but you're just as free to scroll away from those if you don't vibe with the topic, as you more or less are. If you're coming from the perspective of "SOTE is literally perfect it can do no wrong" yea you're just not gonna vibe with my channel, because I don't see *anything* as without flaw or unable to improve, except with Fromsoft they have been around doing these kinds of games and could learn from their own past choices sometimes. But if you're not in that thought process, and are willing to at the very least listen to a different perspective, what harm is there *really* at the end of the day if you dipsagree? These are just my thoughts, and people can coexist with different opinions on dumb video games
@BertoPlease well, that was my question from the beginning. Why make a whole video about how some things are worse in SOtE than before? What is the motivation here?
It would have fixed all of my gripes with the level up system if they based it more on golden seeds or sacred tears. Too many upgrades with a cap or fewer and easier to find.
43:23 These dudes would STAND UP! Never seen that before. They must be bugged in the current patch right?
All Glitches in this video Works 19-11-2024
I like the idea of finishing off micolash by throwing a rock at him.
I hope he does both versions of dark souls 2
Doing a plunging attack on the one enemy in hemwick tanks the frame rate every time for some odd reason.
Bayle has way less jank than midir. Also i hate midir lmao
I hate shadow of the erdtree
Such a great Series, pls visit the other souls games in 1.0
Can you do the opposite too?
There is a difference between leaving room for interpretation and stripping details away to simulate that result. I played Dark Souls 1 and 3 after Elden Ring (but before the DLC), and in both I was surprised by how much I observed or how many story points I could organically fill in which made the role-playing aspect far more rewarding than it did in Elden Ring. The DLCs of both Dark Souls 1&3 helped to cement my understanding of my character’s role in the world: the Chosen Undead, despite his heroic efforts, was destined to be forgotten; the Ashen One continues his journey to bring closure and put dying worlds to sleep. But what is the tarnished doing? Perhaps the only instant I felt something like that is when Ansbach bids you to “Become our new lord. A lord not for gods, but for men.” And though you had Hewg, Roderika and Boc ask you the same, somehow I still felt like the Tarnished was little more than a glorified janitor here to sweep the old order out. I think the scale of the DLC (and main game) made a poor medium for a sparse narrative: all the elements did not congeal well but floated on the surface.
Well said, completely agree. There's a distinct disconnect I feel when looking at the tarnished in comparison to the player characters from previous titles. I just feel that the older games did a better job of providing motivations that were easy to get behind, making the experience as a whole a more immersive one. In elden ring I really have no idea why my character would want to be doing any of this.
I appreciate the visual indicators of which version is on screen, that's surprisingly common to be unintuitive.
You can tell who the nuanced folks in the comments are, and what folks are glazing over ER 😂
This is sad.... Cant we just enjoy shadow of the erdtree?
Are people not allowed to criticise it? We should criticise things more so the people that create can improve and do better in the future. If we just ignore issues just to enjoy it, it sends a message that companies don’t need to change how they approach design or development to improve, but instead breeds a culture of toxic positivity that only leads to worse and worse outcomes. There are numerous IPs that exist they show what happens if we don’t properly critique them and just mindlessly enjoy them which have lead to slop being created. Examples like Marvel movies/shows, Star wars, fallout and many more show that refusal to acknowledge or engage with criticisms leads to worse and worse media.
@Gwa-Senpai there is nothing you can teach fromsoft lil dude.
@ If you truly think Fromsoft has nothing to learn, then that’s just sad. Everyone still can learn new things and improve. If they are so perfect, then why do people criticise them? If you don’t actually want to engage in media and mindlessly enjoy what you like, that’s fine. Just don’t go into discussions about it as a piece of media when you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about and only resort to ignorant statements when they do criticise a game, film, book, show, et cetera, you like. You’re only helping them by commenting on a video like this, boosting them in the algorithm.
@Gwa-Senpai they can always learn, but they will not learn from a nobody with a keyboard on a youtube video bozzo. Dont you know how arrogant you sound, while trying to hide it under a false critique wannabe?
@Gwa-Senpai you are like a real dork wow
I think leda fight is betted than ivory p1. It has great music, good narrative conclusion, rewards doing questlines and the dialogue is really interesting especially between ansbach and freya. Ivory p1 is a good concept done horribly imo. Eluem loyce itself is a terrible area to explore so i dont have much fun recruiting the knights and they have no personality or dialogue themselves to make them interesting.
0:30 looks like the hunters bare ass cheeks through the spindle of the disc. LOL
Erdtree has awful boss design. Otherwise, it was pretty good. The second worst fromsoft dlc after ariandel, but still pretty good.
The boss presentation felt extremely lacking. Not talking about the spectacle of the encounters, that was AWSOME! But the actual build up, most of the arenas, and the background lore felt tushed for DLC bosses. Most of the encounters felt like standard foes. And sometimes the spectacle went TOO far! Obscuring what the hell was actually happening. I completely agree
I genuinely think only Divine Beast, Midra and Messmer are awesome bosses. All the others are at least good.
I love the fact that this video is 3 times the lenght of the bloodborne video
This is the worst Elden Ring DLC "criticism" video I have seen. It's literally just "Hey. You see how this completely different older thing is similar to this new one? Yeah. The old one's better just because yes" as if Elden Ring's not completely different game from other souls games.
I liked the video. However I disagree with a few details. I haven’t played DS2 or BB dlcs so I cannot say anything about those comparisons. - The Leda fight. While the fight itself isn’t particularly fair, you can use Spirit Summons to balance the play field. They also don’t spawn all at once so if you have enough DPS you can get rid of them quickly. Getting to a 1v5 situation requires incredibly bad luck but you still have a lot of advantages. - You didn’t mention that the Specimen Storehouse has a point on its favor, the fact that is has multiple entrances from outside, it basically means you have like two or three different routes inside Shadow Keep and I think it’s worth mentioning - Bayle may have some issues but thanks to being more aggressive than Midir, it allows for less downtime. There are times when fighting Midir he gets too far and can’t do anything about it. Bayle is more exciting, at the end it is personal preference, but I think Bayle is better. I disagree that Ashes of Ariandel has a better “open world” map. I like the area but I also think it has a lot of empty space especially in the beginning, the frozen lake is a good example, there is only one NPC fight and almost nothing else. Even the Ringed City swamp I thought was a bit lacking. I agree SOTE has a lot of unnecessary empty space, but I don’t think Ashes of Ariandel is a good comparison either. Even so, I think this was a good video. I disagree SOTE is that much below the other dlcs and it does a lot right. I think that having a progression system (no matter how flawed the Scadutree Fragments are) for example, allows to engage better with the content than previous dlc, so perhaps that would be a good point in favor, if you do decide to do the “what SOTE does better than other dlcs” video. Thanks for reading!
Respectfully disagree about Bayle. I actually think that Bayle has significantly more downtime than Midir. At least in his second phase. Bayle starts chaining attacks over and over again that it seems like you have to dodge for 2 minutes in order to have one opening. Midir at least has openings after every attack, specially the laser combo.
@@matheusbecker2351 I understand and even agree a little bit, specially when you are learning him. It might be because I've fought Bayle around five times but I've always felt that Bayle has a decent amount of openings, specially after the big explosion attacks, so there is a lot of punish oportunities. Attacking the broken leg when the head is covered by lightning also helps. I like Midir too, but I think Bayle is more fun and exciting. Thanks for the reply!
@@pichonj2344 Nice that we could agree to disagree! I only fought Bayle twice, both using melee builds, one Strength and in Dex. Maybe fighting him more times would change my perception of the fight
Alot of people seem to forget that elden ring is open world at the end of the day, its going to have some tweaks from previous titles, its not going to be as compact, its going to have repeat enemies here and there and repeat bosses. Something that doesnt bother me considering that this is the most original content of any souls game not to mention im used to dealing with triple worse in rpgs and mmos. There is alot of repeats that also fit in lore wise and make sense. Without counting repeats it is still BY FAR the most amount of new original content of any souls experience. Elden ring structures its design and exploration way better than most open worlds so I cant help but praise it even with its flaws.
But that is exactly why a lot of people dislike ER, I can respect it for what it is, but at the end of the day, the souls formula doesn't mesh well with an open world, especially when it comes to balancing. Replayability also really got hurt by the open world format, which could be alienating to fans of the older games which were super easy and quick to replay. It's a good open world, but just because its flaws arent as bad as other open worlds, doesn't mean that they aren't flaws, and the aforementioned souls formula took a hit too.
I usually don't like comparisons to older FromSoftware works, as it often comes off as suggesting SotE is holistically inferior to previous installments, but I fully agree with pretty much everything in this video. I recently played all of Bloodborne again and also thought that the Research Hall was far more enjoyable than the specimen storehouse in terms of building atmosphere and hype for the impending boss, as well as having more airtight level design. (I also found Bloodborne to generally be more fun to play, despite its age showing. It may be easier, but I think it's time we stopped conflating difficulty with quality. SotE was honestly masochistic with how certain enemies felt to fight.) I appreciate you talking about the story bits as well. Melina's silence felt like an oversight at best, and potentially outright lazy at worst; she's already a character that felt half-baked and neglected in the base game, so it was extremely sad to me that they didn't feature her in the DLC, or at least give her interesting dialogue. I'm also one of those people who found Radahn's involvement to be contrived and indulgent. I sincerely thought that WE were going to be petitioned to be Miquella's consort, and then his champion - his muscle, rather - would stop us if he couldn't force our compliance. That felt foreshadowed by Torrent's connection to Miquella, and the implication that our journey was aided indirectly by Miquella all along, and that would have better reinforced Miquella's mastermind caricature. As far as I'm aware, that connection to Torrent is not expounded on in the DLC. If it is, then it is too well hidden. I also feel that Radahn's involvement retroactively degrades his conflict with Malenia in Cealid. Previously, it seemed obvious that it was a war of ideals; Radahn represented a zealous adherence to the Old Order, where Malenia (and by extension MIQUELLA) represented a total reform. The idea that Miquella had some kind of crush on Radahn and presumably sent Malenia to kill him just to get his way reduces Malenia's autonomy and Miquella's intelligence, IMO. I honestly love the open-world level design of SotE, especially when compared to the base-game, but it's undeniable that there's too much wasted space, to the point where several areas felt completely unfinished - namely the examples you listed. I could go on and on about other shortcomings and frustrations, but I don't think SotE is inferior to previous installments. Nonetheless, it did NOT reach its full potential, and that should be obvious to everyone. It seems to be the Open World Curse; developers can't help but let their ambition outgrow their production schedule, and frankly I'm concerned that Elden Ring has established a trend of FromSoftware not taking the time they need to perfect their art. Elden Ring could have been the magnum opus of FromSoftware on every level, and it's really tragic to me how short it came to reaching that height.
1. Bayle is referenced a couple times "I think" at least, aswell as foreshadowed by Orange lightning which no other dragon has 2. You wouldve had a much better time will bayle if you didint lack so many scadutree blessings aswell as the way you went about fighting him was destined to make it a bad time (not a fun time either)
leda is the reason i think fromsofr just doesnt care anymore about balancing. right after leda its radhn also. they were like, eh players will surely find a way to deal with it. cuz otherwise i just cant imagine how to full leda fight made it past testing as it is. also the lightnings in jagged peak are from bayel but you would be forgiven for not knowing. they arent that memorable
I’ll tell you why Leda and gang went past testing, its because you have two perfectly doable questline that give you a summon sigh to level the playing field against the opposing team. Both summons are very helpful and make the encounter much more doable, not to mention the dialogue between both sides and how somber it all is. And hey, even if you don’t do the questlines, you can literally just have Dane and Leda Vs you and Nataan who is summonable if Ansbach is either killed or his quest is never completed, or you could do all of your side’s questline and not the other side’s and kill hornsent prematurely, all of a sudden you now outnumber your opponents. And to add a cherry on the top, ash summons. So yes, there are plenty of reasons why the leda fight is the way it is, its only an issue if you make it one.
If you literally do nothing Leda's fight is a 2v3
I never found thiollier, so I had ansback with me and a player or two lol really fun to cover the room in our blood lol
6:02 I figured that out pretty quickly
Old hunters dlc made the bell summoning way less immersive that shit always irked me
As far as I can tell, quests will only be messed up if you use the lamp in the forest. Because I used the Cookie glitch a bunch for early Evelin, and I could always do the quets even if I want down into the swamp for the loot.
Regarding the chalice boss AI being more loopable, if I remember didn't early Bloodborne have a memory leak that caused this to happen to bosses if the game ran for too long? Just thinking of possible causes compared to the normal versions.
0:31 now wait a minute 💀💀💀
Ummm the game does show something about Bayle. Leading up to Bayle is giant orange lightning, which is different to everyother lightning dragons lightning
i'm kinda agree, but you forget difference between size elden ring dlc and others.
