Re: Midra - seems like even people who heavily agree with me, enjoy Midra a lot 🤔 I think it's safe to say that on a personal level I've just gotten sick of the delayed attack shit lol. It bothered me a lot in the base game too, though over time I've relaxed a little bit on some of them. For instance I famously also hated Radagon for at least partly similar reasons, but over time I've not disliked him AS much. Unfortunately it's hard to say if that'll change for Midra since I do feel like I learned him well, and still didn't find him that enjoyable or impressive. Who's to say though 🤷

A game shouldn't be bigger than the content it can offer. Otherwise it will feel repetitive or barren. If Fromsoft struggles with ER and SotE sizes then they should stick to making smaller games or split their larger games into multiple DLC's or expansions.

For real, that's what I've been saying for a while. My first time playing through it was amazing. The second time was alright, and the third time was extremely boring. The game is way too big and re uses way too much. It makes it a chore to re-play through. Most bosses, even in the main game, are either bad or average, I just can't see myself playing through it again or trying new builds. Maybe I'd play it using the seamless coop mod with my friends, but other than that, I dont think I'll ever replay this game ever. On the other hand, I've replayed DS1, DS3, and BB dozens of times because the levels and bosses are great, amazing even, and they do not feel overwhelming to go back to.

Yeah while I think Elden Ring is objectively the best game, subjectively I liked Dark Souls 3, consistent quality and a tailored experience. Sure Metroidvania looping back to firelink shrine is fun the first time, but it can’t beat consistent area and boss quality for me.
I feel like if Elden Ring trimmed the fat, if a catacombs is a copy and paste with a copy paste boss remove it, make evergaols have a unique boss then remove the rest (like bloodhound, just don’t use them in academy it doesn’t need it), if an area feels empty make it smaller.
If they did that it’s one of the best games of all time, I feel like they made the area map and didn’t think about how they could fill it.
Open world also doesn’t work well for me when the quests are still obscure. As. Hell. I have to pull up a damn UA-cam guide to finish quests, just make regular quests that gives you something to do while exploring rather than catacombs.
I hope if there is a Elden ring 2, they forget about size and think about quality.

Its not the difficulty - its the boredom. I feel bored. I feel bored exploring these vast planes of enemies i run by on torrent becuase there is no point in fighting them, i get bored finding a sectret, and theres an item, and when i pick it up its a smithing stone [4]. Im bored looking for scadutree fragments, im bored of the boss fights - waiting till the boss ends his 10 hit combo so i can hit him once or twice, and then repeat the process. Im bored. Give me Sekiro 2 or Bloodborne 2 / Bloodborne Remaster on PC. The "Press circle to dodge, R1 to attack" formula doesnt work anymore. Its so boring..... "FromSoft wants cinematic boss fights" - you wanna see what a cinematic boos fight looks like? Play Devil May Cry 5, fight Vergil at the end - so cinematic and cool. Now imagine the fight with only a short dodge and 1 basic combo. It doesnt work. If the enemy has "cinematic" combos and moves, the player has to have similar tools for it to feel ok. Replayed Sekiro couple of days ago - and oh man what a breath of fresh air, and its telling, because i really disliked the game when it came out. Give me a cool and engaging combat system and well designed levels, instead of "dodge R1" and empty planes of unrewarding exploration.

obligatory "I actually loved midra" comment
    but besides that, I DESPISE souls fans nowadays, they treat ER like it's some sort of religious figure of theirs and from software is some sort of deity or whatever, whenever you complain about something genuinely valid they'll jump on your throat and say you're doing something wrong or just suck at the game;
remember when back in the day "git gud" was a meme we used to tell people to keep going and try harder to genuinely get better? nowadays "git gud" is just either a braindead way to play off your arguments and ignore criticism or "just learn to cheese the boss bro", trying to play "fair" in ER does not work anymore, the game FULLY expects you to use literally every single thing in your disposal to win conflicts even if it means completely doing a 180 on your build that you've used for dozens of hours for a single fight
I hope ER was a one off and that they'll go back to a more ds3 approach to the rpg elements with sekiro like combat, if everything else that comes out from the studio is more akin to elden ring I don't think these games are for me anymore

@@enigmatic8280 you can dislike ds2 but to say "fuck Yui Tanimura" is taking it too far. Beyond that you don't substantiate that ds2 fans have no real arguments as to why it's good (which is fine for keeping a comment short and concise but it leads to people not forming their own opinions). Taking it a step further you claim that ds2 fans' only response is "git gud". I think you are so hung up on your gripes with the game that you are unable to acknowledge positive aspects, hell even areas of improvement over the original. This argument has nothing to do with difficulty.
A really, and I mean REALLY common sentiment I see is people claiming defenders will say "git gud" to brush off criticism which is tru for some of them. But what no one seems willing to admit is that critics will use those people saying "git gud" as Strawmen in order to invalidate genuine defences/positive aspects of something they dislike.
Expanding on "gut gud" as a straw man. Directional rolling and frame traps are quite common in the dlc if you roll a certain way you get hit by the follow up. People have called this bulshit and unfair but when people have rightfully pointed out that players need to adapt to this and figure out roll direction as well as timing, they've just been written off as toxic elitists saying "git gud".
I realise no one is going to read this or God forbid change their opinions but it's important to know that things aren't black and white. Critics aren't entirely correct and neither are the defenders, both sides are absolutely toxic and the game isn't just good or bad.
One more thing. Every time fromsoft has done anything everyone hated it. People hated ds1 for being hard, people hated ds2 for not being ds1, people hated bloodborne for being too fast, people hated sekiro for being too linear, people hated ds3 for being too much like ds1, people hated base elden ring for delayed attacks and being too open. One thing I've learnt playing these games is that the community hates these games, sometimes more than they love it. Ds2 isn't special, neither is Elden ring. Sorry for ranting. And again don't attack creators of something you dislike even in just passing like in the comment I'm replying to.

I don't agree with most people about the DLC bosses. I feel like FROM ran out of ideas for making things difficult beyond what they've already done. So it feels like they resorted to some bosses having long attack chains, AOE spam, tiny attack windows, and they keep moving away (looking at you, Putrescent Knight).
Sometimes it feels like they're trying to cheese you instead of making it fun. Kudos to those who can do 'DLC RL1 naked all bosses,' but that's not me and it never will be. I've beaten the base game more times than I can remember and the DLC once, but I've hit my plateau. The DLC seems to want me to be better than I can be, so it's just not for me. Still, I like the open world of the DLC and the minibosses, and the weapons and armor are pretty cool too. They're really the only reasons I've started a second playthrough of the DLC.
That said, I'm with the people who think Midra is a good fight. He's a bit spammy, but if you learn the dodge timings, he actually gives you time to breathe. The only reason I died twice was the frenzy buildup stunlock. I got him in three attempts after changing to a talisman to build up frenzy resist. His attacks felt like a fun dance, which I thought was pretty cool. Though, getting to him is annoying; that forest is just too damn big-I feel like I should be filing taxes in the time it takes to get to the manor.
But Lion, Gaius, Rellana, and Consort... I won't lie, I might have cursed Miyazaki's name a few times. I did struggle with Messmer pretty bad, but for some reason, I didn't actually find him that frustrating, but he still has my issues of denying damage windows by either attacking or moving away too much.

    • @keskorian5820
      @keskorian5820 4 місяці тому +3

i disagree with most of your comment but the putrescent knight take is the worst one imo. he only has three AOE attacks, of which 2 are punishable. AOE's only cover a small percentage of his moveset. after his regular combos, he always stands still and you can often attack him mid-combo because attacks go over your head if you stay close. literally 2/3 of attacks in his moveset are jumpable, so you can just jump over the lower sweeps with a jump heavy before he goes away. fixes the issue you have with it
it's a non-spammy boss thats not too aggressive and doesnt have overly long combos you cant punish ( the long combo where he gets off the horse has 3 different punish windows ) it seems like you could really like this boss if you learned more about the fight

  • @jadessalazard

I've beat Consort Radahn after maybe 100+ deaths, with Backhand blades for P1 and Reduvia for P2, and felt absolutely nothing. No joy, nothing. The only thing that passed through my mind was "Welp, its finally over". The boss is pure ass and just made frustrating for the sake of it. Anyone defending this fight with "well ackhually" is missing the point. We know that you can write an essay on how you can defeat him, but it doesn't make it less ass.
And this is just boss mechanics, without taking into consideration general shit like - animation locking, input buffering, animation reading, tracking, etc

This! It's this exact feeling. I took him down in only 35 attempts cheesing with Blasphemous Blade AoW. I just felt relieved. No joy, no excitement. I just leaned back in my chair and though thank fuck it's over. Radahn and Gaius are pure unfun and unfairness. I haven't struggled with Rellana, even though I see where people are coming from. Messmer and Midra were fun. Radahn and Gaius are poorly designed. And it's not just the bosses. Most of the enemies are bullshit too. Horned Knights are steroid versions of the Crucible Knights, who were already strong AF. Curseblades were so annoying. Flame Knight's were just incantation spammers. Inquisitors are just incantation spammers. This entire DLC is just enemies spamming the same shit over and over until you get hit once.
I'll play this DLC again, but I'm 100% skipping Radahn and Gaius, and ending my run after killing Romina. Because if you don't enjoy something, don't play it. Which is why no one plays DS2 anymore. And this DLC has a lot of DS2 blood in it.

I feel like Radahn would be a lot more tolerable if they fixed some of the hitboxes and damage. His 3 hit combo where he ends with a cross slash has an undodgeable second swipe that WILL roll catch you on mid rolls unless you use stuff like ash of war. And his combos hit so hard that if you mess up once you either die or lose 70-90 percent of your health, and if you want to heal you’ll have to sacrifice a punish window to heal. This is amplified in the second phase where getting hit once is almost a death sentence unless your already face hugging him so you might luckout and avoid the light beams.
This sucks cause it makes learning his moveset in second phase a complete pain since you have to go through so much crap if you die. First you gotta get past his first phase, then you gotta pray he does his AOE starting phase 2 since it’s ingrained in your head to dodge that since he does it 90% of the time, then you gotta wait out the rest of his moveset to dodge the one combo you want. Makes it very time consuming and irritating since if you fuck up at any point during this it’s back to square one. Which is very easy to do with how fast his combos are and how confusing it is to dodge his attacks.
The only other boss that’s on par with this boss fight’s difficulty would be Fatalis from Monster Hunter World. The difference is that I actually had fun with Fatalis, despite taking me longer to beat it compared to Radahn. Why? Cause you could actually learn the boss fight without wanting to bash your skull in, his phases didn’t add insane clutter to the fight, and the fight felt much fairer.
What I mean by that is that Fatalis hit like a truck, with his ‘chip’ damage attacks taking out a quarter of your hp, and his regular attacks taking out 80 percent of your HP, similar to Radahn’s damage. However it hit slow, and attacks were telegraphed, so if you got hit, it was either bad positioning since he punished being far away, or you got greedy and tried to get another hit in. (Or you didn’t run evade window and couldn’t crap but uhh, I ran gunlance with evade extender so I just face hugged and b hopped out of the way)
Compared to Radahn’s second phase, Fatalis’ third phase doesn’t have insane clutter and instead of just adding annoying AOEs to each attack, his moveset just gets bigger. He’s got the same attacks with minor changes, and a few new moves that are very easy to dodge once you figure it out (Superman diving saves lives lol as does facehugging). There’s not insane visual clutter and you have plenty of opportunity to heal up if you get hit.
Yes, there is the ‘DPS’ check leading up to phase 3 where you have to break Fatalis’ horns otherwise his attacks all one shot you, but with the roaming ballista, clutch claw, and the binders, I never struggled to break the horns before phase 3.
Anyway, enough yapping. If Fromsoft is too lazy to fix the hitboxes and optimize the game so the phase 2 doesn't bring fps down to 30, they could atleast nerf the damage so you can actually learn the combos without having to waste time getting through phase 1. If they’re gonna make a boss one or two shot you, it shouldn’t have combos that attack at the speed of sound.
Oh, and since this is gonna get brought up, I soloed Radahn with a STR zweihander build, no summons, no mimic tear, with scadutree level 16 because I got sick of going on fetch quests for shit and said fuck it, I’ll just brute force it.
EDIT:9/11 Holy shit they actually nerfed him. they even nerfed the damage like i wanted.

Half the baddies are reused or slightly edited for the dlc from the base game.
Many giant areas with nothing in them but maybe one thing lol. Many areas are just horribly ugly to look at. Endless piss yellow straw fields with oil slick roads that look like my toilet on chili night. Prettier areas come later at least lol. Not a great way to open is all I'm saying... Yay I got the dlc let's goo... Oh... It's super ugly lol. That wasn't the take I wanted to start with but that's how it is lol. Once you touch that arm, load in, walk up the steps, you're just like ew... Vs the main game where once you open that shudder... OMFG the most beautiful starting area ever seen in a open world game just about. Aside from varre that freak lolz
Scat tree system has flaws. It encourages exploring but it's terrible for gauging skill and boss difficulty. As a result you have azzhole players going "why did you struggle? It was sooo much easier for me" When they played on easy mode essentially by sticking to ng or ng plus one instead of doing it on ng plus 7. Or maybe you went for scat trees like crazy. Boss difficulty varies largely based on how lucky you are at finding hidden stuff? Lol that kinda sux... The boss is harder because I didn't go on a ridiculous easter egg hunt? Myazaki knows this is dlc, not a new game, right?
10 remembrance bosses and I don't remember half of em haha. What are their names again? Who cares... I gave em nick names lol. Con man rad dan. Timon and pumbaa. The lion king. Lol this dlc is myazakis take on the lion king I think haha. I think I remember the lil yoda demi human dood more than the main one's haha. Bosses were mostly a let down. I'm with Berto. Messmer and sort of rellana stole the show. The rest of em are meh or just mehhhhhhhhhhh
Unmemorable dungeons. The forge one's don't even have a boss and the only baddies in them are ground goo and rock boy, some of the most boring azzholes to fight in the game. These places just sucked lol.
Getting lost was super easy around those river crag junctions, those lord of the rings dwarven looking green areas to the north, some dungeons were just overly long.
Gotta love Bayle though haha. Hard boss that's kind of bull crap in some ways but over all it was probably the koolest part of the dlc.
90% of gear is useless trash. About 99% is useless trash on ngplus7 haha. Worse than the base game in just about every way.
Story stuff gets even more head scratchy
PVP still super unbalanced and laggy af.
CooP mode is still f tarded af... There's a reason why the pc coop mod is the most popular mod...
DLC does nothing to add to the base game in terms of story. Would have been interesting to see Melinas take on the land of shadow or SOMETHING but no, it just ends up feeling super weird how the DLC is basically 100% separate from the base game story. Maybe they can patch something in with a update?
Oh and the updates nerfed a lot of the kooler stuff so the game is less impressive as a result.

I've discussed this DLC even with my friends, and they seem to be blindly loving it despite all the rage they expressed in voice chat while playing. Mind you, I'm the only one of our group who's actually played all Fromsoft's games and DLC's, including Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. And I am in no way agreeing this DLC is good, flawless, whatever...
The difficulty of this damned DLC comes from bullshit. If the Scadutree level didn't exist, and you were just scaled to the lowest tier...but the enemies didn't have bullshit attacks and attack combos, this DLC would have been fine. I don't care about the scaling level here. I was on level 18 towards the end, and most enemies in Enir Ilim were two-tapping me, with their first attack just doing ~80% of my hp. Not to mention the long 5-7 attack combos they spam over and over and over.
This is not a well constructed DLC. The open world nature of this game means as a player, we're stronger than ever, and fair design goes out the window just to make the game more difficult. My level of frustration while running through the DLC was akin to my experience playing DS2. Old Hunters and Ringed City are hard DLC's. This one is not hard, it's bullshit in terms of design.
I really hope we go back to linear legacy dungeon gameplay for the next game. Elden Ring pushed the limits. We saw how bad it was getting past Leyndell, and the DLC just amplified that experience and it just got more unfun. And I think it's all got to do with the open world nature of this game, where you can get a broken build going within the first hour of the game.

Holy, I disagree so much on the Midra fight. I think he is the best boss in all of Elden Ring.
Yeah he has delayed attacks but they felt very fair and deliberate (not overly delayed to the point of looking absurd).
His agression and speed is also much more manageable than other bosses who jump around so damn much and have super long combos with little down time.
His cutscene and dialogue (as well as hearing him throughout the manse) also added a ton to it for me.

    • @falcoon_f_zero9450
      @falcoon_f_zero9450 28 днів тому +2

Definitely agree with that. Fell in love with the games originally since combat felt grounded and weighty. Your character moved more sluggishly, especially above light weight and stamina costs were high. But limitations applied to enemies too. They too had limited movement, couldn't just non-stop combo you and any enemies in heavy gear were clearly weighed down by it. Felt like the both the player and enemies had to obey by the same rules. Enemies didn't have such crazy abilities so half the danger came from the precarious places you had to fight them in. You could use sensible tactics like strafing to the side of an vertical swing to avoid it or backing out of the range of the enemy's weapon and it wouldn't hit you. Try that in Elden Ring and the enemy will likely do an instant 180° turn mid-swing to punish you for trying to strafe it or if you try to out-range their attack they'll likely slide 10 meters forwards during the swing to reach you anyway.
The thing that becomes a problem in Elden Ring is that they still try to keep the grounded roots somewhat, with stuff like limited stamina bar, weight classes and the Dark Souls-like dodge. While enemies have these crazy flashy abilities, hyper aggression, all kinds of anime-esque whirlwind sword attacks and acrobatics, and feels like half the enemies/bosses can just levitate into the air at will, even if they didn't have any wings. I guess gravity just does not exist to foes like Maliketh, Radagon or Messmer, almost all DLC bosses randomly forget gravity for some of their moves now that I think about it. We're limited to a more grounded movement while enemies can freely fly, zip across the arena in an instant and have the these giant explosive moves where the player's dodge is not even enough to avoid them. It takes the grounded feeling of the combat away that they were going for since the player and the enemies operate with completely different laws of physics.
Sorry for the rambling. I just find it fun to think about these things.

I did my playthrough in NG+1 and based on the damage I'm seeing from your bosses, I don't think our experience was all that dissimilar. Clearly, Scadutree Fragments make an infinitely larger impact on this DLC than NG+ level does. Don't listen to anyone telling you NG+7 was the problem. I don't think difficulty itself is a bad thing, but difficulty brings out sloppily tuned bosses and slow character movement, two things Shadow of the Erdtree is plagued by. Your thoughts have been a breath of fresh air to me, because they mirror my own. I think people are blinded by the novelty of a shiny new FromSoft expansion and aren't discussing it candidly. Shadow of the Erdtree is nowhere near the same level of polish as something like Artorias of the Abyss or The Old Hunters was, and reusing Radahn as the final boss instead of Miquella himself (who would've been more of a unique fight mechanically, and likewise required much more work to create) is the epitome of "we didn't give a shit" to me. Lets scold the bad elements while also praising the good elements so the next FromSoft release is better than this - how is that a controversial take?

(Especially when you are praising things like The Old Hunters which one of the mains bosses Laurence is a Cleric Beast re-use.) But you know it is what it is. I hope that one day UA-camrs understand and actually feel empathy towards the people who make things that they profit off of.

While I think the "we didn't give a shit" part might be a bit much, I will say that the scadurtree system was pretty damn poorly implemented in my opinion. About the final boss, I can see why they went that route. I'm pretty sure Miquella himself isn't a fighter like all the other demigods, he more specializes in coercion and brainwash. In the lore everybody describes Radahn as the strongest of the demigods, so it make a little bit of sense as to why Miquella chose to resurrect him.

It's both dawg. Learn to math. Fextra is your friend. Here's the law...
DLC enemies are default 20% harder in terms of health, damage, defense, resistance, and poise. Finding the scat trees bit by bit will get that 20% back to zero.
      Ng baddies are at 100%
ng plus? Same thing. This is the revenge playthrough haha.
Ngplus 2 aka your 3rd playthrough. 5% increase.
      4rth playthrough? 10% increase.
      5th? 20%
      6th? 30%
And then last is the 7th play through. 40%.
Oh and it also depends on what enemies you're facing. Some are not just 40% harder on ng plus 7 but rather 3 times harder haha. It can get pretty complex when you get into the deetz but this is the gist of it...
So going into the dlc on ng plus7 is that absolute hardest way to tackle the dlc.

I was one of the people spoiled on the final boss when the leaks dropped. I was 99% convinced the leaks were faked, because the whole concept was so stupid and just felt fundamentally wrong for From Software. Now that I know the leaks are real, I've lost a massive amount of motivation to even finish the DLC.
It doesn't help that now Miquella's defining character trait is his obsession with Radahn when there are absolutely no connections between the two in the base game. This leaves us with two possibilities: Either they had always planned this, and deliberately obscured the connection between Miquella and Radahn and gave us red herrings like Godwyn on purpose, or else they reworked Miquella's character to create a lore justification for the Radahn boss fight they wanted to put in the DLC. Neither possibility really sits right with me.
I'm pretty sure this will be my last Souls game. I just don't think the devs care in the same way that they used to.

Holy “old good new bad” type of a comment is this?! What I’m seeing is there’s a gradual divide that’s been happening ever since From Software released Bloodborne, and that divide gets bigger & bigger due to From Software’s ventures through different game design approaches with each game they release, so you’ll see the fanbase that have been with them Demon Souls or Dark Souls 1, to Bloodborne & Dark Souls 3 audience, to Sekiro, to Elden Ring & Armored Core 6, and that’s OK, IDK why some of y’all get upset over this stuff, all I’m seeing is the old Souls guys, I call them “Boomer Souls” are starting to not like From Software’s continued efforts to get to that “perfect game” that they want to make, and it’s like Elden Ring was the last straw that broke the Camel’s back for some of you old Souls fans. Just enjoy their games lol. I’ve been playing their games since 2015 with Bloodborne being my 1st one, and now Elden Ring is my favorite game of all time & its DLC is phenomenal, ofc it has negatives here & there, but I cannot believe that From Software is still pumping out masterpiece after masterpiece like that, be happy that we have them instead of increasing that weird tribalistic divide.

I will not have midra slander. Midra moves around the arena with a grace and flow that hasn't been in the elden ring base game or dlc, he plays ACTUALLY like a dark souls 3 enemy instead of a sekiro enemy, the dance is fully considered and in tact instead of deliberate and relentless combo strings. You can gain proper advantage instead of rolling 20+ minutes to land one strike. Midra is probably in my top 5 souls bosses.

Overall I'd say I feel more positive about the DLC than you, but I'm definitely more mixed on it than I ever expected to be. Reused bosses, empty areas, and a stupid final boss really bring it down for me. I still went right into a second playthrough immediately, but I stopped at the final boss because I have no interest in fighting it again. I actually ended up feeling a bit more positive about the DLC after my second playthrough (outside of the final boss of course) since I knew which areas I could just zoom through.

I disagree with a lot of this and really enjoyed much of the DLC, but Im still a bit disappointed. First of all, the final boss. Im on him now, and while I like his first phase, the second is way too much. I reached that point yesterday and through the whole thing I was baffled by what was going on. Giant, bright aoe's, Radhan is zooming around like a hyperactive toddler, Im being assaulted by that clone-attack, I can barely find any openings because Im desperatly trying to survive, Miquellas bright hair in my face. When I died I just turned off the game and started laughing. My usual response when I fight a boss like this is I get annoyed of all the bullshit, but push through it. This was just so over-the-top that it was funny. Something I felt about the base-game that I feel about the DLC now too is that Fromsoft tried to keep the focus on aggressive combat from Bloodborne (ER's bosses are really fast, but they also have poise-meters, encouraging aggressiveness), but we are still stuck with the slower Dark Souls combat. The reason it worked in Bloodborne was that we are faster too. Radhan's p2 is just so overwhelming that I swear it broke something in my dumb gamer-brain. I'll keep trying but I need a break from this game first.
Related to that, another complaint I have is that its so damn big. Elden Ring is already too big for its own good, and even though the DLC has some of my fav bosses in the game (Messmer, Bayle, Midra and Romina), it REALLY didnt need an expansion. Let alone one of this size. It was really fun at first but eventually became exhausting. If Fromsoft ever makes another openworld game they need to get better at trimming away unecessary stuff.

They need to patch him. Not a nerf to help nubes but rather a removal of the rng bs. Those holy rays are random where they land and since he's always pushing you back, you can randomly be backed into one, get stunned, and then you're losing tons of health or it's game over. If he gets lucky on you once or twice then it's over. Too much luck is involved is the issue. Attacks being hard to telegraph is also a bit of a issue when BLINDING LIGHTS KEEP MAKING MY EYES HURT IN REAL LIFE. The fight sux lol.
Bad enough the fight can only be won by cheesing or 5 hours of roll butt poke perfection lol. But he has more health than the fire giant. It's a long boring random luck based fight in more ways than not. F that boss lol. And the rewards are like... Nuthin worth af so if you don't feel like fighting him again. I can't blame ya. Bad boss with bad rewards and isn't necessary to progress in the game sooo... Just go kill the elden beast and start again lol.

The DLC made me care a lot more about Marika and failed to spark much if any interest towards Miquella, who seemed to be the endpoint of the entire expansion. Murdering like 80% of the NPCs, which I liked interacting with throughout the early to mid-game, killing the bosses, and killing the furnace golems made the map feel tremendously empty after the fact. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the rushed development feeling of this DLC is down to Bandai Namco imposing a strict budget and time limit on it's development. They're a publisher known for cutting corners and it's very obvious with a lot of their very sub par anime games. I think another issue might be that From Software is moving on from Elden Ring to other projects and probably had a smaller team working on this DLC than the base game. I can definitely see this contributing to the issues that this DLC has too.
What's also got me curious is that it was leaked that From Software bought the Elden Ring IP from Bandai and actually owns it themselves now. I don't really see why they would do that when it was a major success and is probably a one and done thing. Maybe there's some sort of falling out between From Software and Bandai with this project. At the very least since they made so much money off this project they will probably consider self publishing some of their games going forward. If they don't have to deal with Bandai much going forward I'll honestly be happy about that since I'm not a fan of Bandai as a publisher at all.

@@BertoPlease That's kind of why I'm hoping From Soft moves on from Bandai and the Souls series and does more new experimental concepts like Sekiro. Then again they're a studio known for iterative improvements over their games and not that many out there experimental ideas.
I think it would be cool though if they did something like Rune/Lost Kingdoms which is kind of an action RPG Yugioh card game again. The Spirit ashes system from Elden Ring would probably work great for independent pawns in a game like that. And having your attacks be linked to consumable cards would probably add a bit more strategy to it.
Then again I don't think that kind of system would work well with the more fast paced twitchy combat they're doing with the souls games nowadays. The slower methodical approach from Dark Souls 1 and 2 though that might work better with it.

Feels so bad hearing this, I have the exactly opposite experience and love the DLC so much. It has my two new favorite bosses and I love how they made the whole open world not open world but instead a puzzle. That being said there is many problems with this approach and how it can backfire. For me the Cerulean Coast became a later game place after defeating Mesmer and burning the tree. So it became great place to just have a breather before getting back into action. I also play my first playthrough with summons/spirits if the boss gets to me because I know that I'll just not enjoy getting stuck for ages when all I want to do is experience the world.
I do think there are two types of die hard souls fans, the ones that put the boss fights as the best thing and the players that enjoy the world, the lore, the exploration the most. That is also why I think DS2 is a stellar game with lacking bosses (because for me; world first, bosses close second). Elden Ring made me understand this situation when I saw so many die hard souls fans getting frustrated because all they wanted was a short, linear gauntlet between boss fights. So with Elden Ring FromSoftware catered more towards us explorers that use every thing we can to delete the bosses (our first time through at least).
I would however not worry that much about thus being the new norm going forward, it didn't back in the day with DS2 even though that game sold extremely well and drove in a much more casual audience. After that came Bloodborne (which they worked on at the same time as DS2), and that game is the true GOAT, haha!
So I'm pretty sure they are furiously cooking up the next tight experience that will become the comeback for all bossfight lovers. You have very clear evidence of this with all the new type quick and advanced new weapon moves. Tell me you don't want to experiment with martial arts or stances in the next game! :)
I do think the next game is going to be japan/asia based, but man if my body doesn't tingle at the thought of stances being able to extend a trick weapons repertoire (so keeping fingers crossed that it be Bloodborne 2 but as new IP so we can get the damn thing on PC day 1)

You see, I'm on the outside looking in, just trying to enjoy things, and i either have to openly complain about or blindly love it. While I understand what the space is being used for and having honest critiques is amazing, I feel there is a weird environment being created around video games where just enjoying things or not enjoying things is replaced with "everyone is WRONG about this things. Thing needs to be critiqued. Be angry and thing not being seen your way, and get mad at people loving thing. Passion is wrong only when it's positive, be dissatisfied. Thing is not the thing you like, it is actually bad thing". And of course the reverse of people complaining i don't religiously love the thing, why could you hate thing, buzzword related to thing, thing is flawless, etc.
I don't think it's the critic's faults, really, but it just makes me enjoy gaming less because every time I go on the internet, i get dragged into this.

You couldn't be anymore right. Elden ring is my first ever souls game ever. And i absolutely love it. But holy moly. First impressions of the community of the game and its players really erked me. Until one of my friends got me into it. Actually helping me. Going on amazing adventures through the lands between and exploring all of its nooks and secrets. But when I first played the game. All it was, was majority of my friends beating the hell out of me with all this cool nifty stuff, never ever took me on adventures and just threw me into boss fights without teaching me much at all. Or helping me on where to go at all until that one friend actually grabbed my hand. Pulled me up. Dusted me off. Showed me the ropes and basics and boom! I absolutely love the game. Despite its flaws that appear. Nothing is perfect and I will admit that for a souls game that has the absolute most build diversity and build creations with so many items. It really does suck how the games bosses completely nullify your builds. Being so resistant unless you wanna bash your skull against a wall for hours. Doing so many anime like moves that melt your health if you don't use this build or this build or this build. It does really suck, but it's the community that makes the game so memorable. And this community is absolutely crap, lmao. It's a 50/50 split between people who complain. Or just are so ignorant and or condescending on both sides. Give valid criticism? Your trash, git good. When that doesn't work anymore. Dark souls gets that pass. It's not an open world. There's an objective. Keep going through and improve and you'll make it! Which makes sense. Dark souls 1s difficulty allows for you to get the hang of things once you learn the ropes yourself and oh my goodness once you do? It's amazing. Elden ring doesn't get that pass. There's so much to do. So much to start and go through. But the community does jack shit to help out new players in elden ring. That's why I love helping new players in elden ring any chance I get too. Having trouble? Would you like an indepth explanation on what you can do and use to get a hand over this boss? Stuff like that. I never got stuff like that. I just got people telling me to get good. And telling me to just cheese through the game, which I don't like doing. Doesn't feel fulfilling or fun. Pair that with the community now at eachothers throats. Literally treating the game like its the worst when despite all its flaws that aren't good. Despite its troubles that fromsoft can definitely improve on. It's just fanboys versus ignorant complainers, bashing heads together and instantly calling the whole game trash just of the flaws. When there's still tons of good memories to make in elden ring. I just hope that fromsoft takes the good and valuable criticism and improve upon the formula.

I’m shocked I have seen so few people talk about the shortcomings in the level design. This is my biggest disappointment in the DLC. There are only two true Legacy Dungeons in the DLC, Belarat and Shadow Keep. Everything else like Ensis, Enir Elim and the Manse is either just a linear combat tunnel with checkpoint spam or way too small. I would even argue that the specimen storehouse is way too linear and has too many graces and is vastly inferior compared to Dark Souls 3’s grand Archives which it is clearly based on. So the only good sections are Belarat and Church district. I was really surprised by this considering the base game has some of From’s best level design ever with Stormveil, Leyndell and the Shunning Grounds.

I'd be very surprised if we ever see a game with Souls style combat again. That being said, I really loved this DLC. My main issue is Dancing Lion's lightning phase. Oh, and Metyr's fight is bad. I loved that the new tears, talismans and weapons added entirely new gameplay elements to the game. The perfect block system has already been really fun for my RL1 run and allows me to be a lot more aggressive with bosses than I was in the base game.
The new weapon types are extremely fun and flashy, though I stuck with my trusty Iron Greatsword for the whole playthrough. I think pretty much every boss has more agreeable openings than the base game, though I do think there is a "best" playstyle for each boss, it was fun for me finding my own playstyles to take on bosses.. I felt like Gaius reminded me of Gyoubu Oniwa, put on the deflect tear and it felt like a whole new fight. I figured Rellana's moveset was really susceptible to be parried and again it felt like a whole new fight. Maybe this is just a mindset I'm carrying over from Iceborne, but I enjoyed the new boss styles the DLC gave me.
I don't like the idea that FromSoftware is getting complacent though, I think that's a really bad faith take on this content. Unless you believe they're straight up lying in their interviews, this was meant to be the last piece of content they want to make for Elden Ring, and as I stated earlier, their last game using a Souls style of combat. I think the new weapon types, along with the new ashes and talismans and tears, could be considered a showcase for the direction they want to take the series.
I know you mentioned how you wouldn't recommend this DLC to someone who wasn't positive about the game, and I would've been in the same boat, but my friend picked it up after watching me play for a bit and it was the first FromSoft experience he could really get himself into. He loved that open world was structured like one giant level with hidden paths and in his opinion richer secrets, feeling that base game devolved into a POI simulator. He especially thought Ancient Ruins of Rauh was fantastic, and remarked that the design and layout of the area felt like a modern rendition of a 64 Zelda dungeon to him. He's always found FromSoft's combat really basic and underwhelming in player and movesets and always felt taken out by how bosses would just stand still, and felt this was the first time playing one of their games that the bosses were actively trying to kill him at all times.
Basically, I think it's completely reasonable to not like the DLC, but I really don't like the idea that it was an uninspired effort. I'd get into how much I loved the story of this DLC but that's a whole other thing I'd rather just make a video on. I'm hopeful that other developers take up the torch of the old grungy dungeon crawler style of their earlier games, because I really feel like FromSoft is ready to move on.
There are definitely a lot of criticisms to be had, but you already addressed the arguments for them quite well. Figured I'd write a bit of a counter take rather than just an "I agree", lol. Hopefully Silksong is something we both can love!

A lot of points made I don't disagree with, but they just don't bother me as much. My favorite part in these games is the exploration, and for me the DLC world was overall just right. There were enough things in each place to keep me interested enough for me to check every corner and cliff I could find. I was satisfied with most of the world, and only a few places felt bland to me. I was quite pleased with most of the bosses. I did not like DBDL but that was mostly a skill issue and me being bitter about how punishing the lightning could be. I was glad not to find anything as brutal as waterfowl dance, as that singlehandedly makes Malenia super hard. Radahn has a lot of attacks that are pretty scary, but I *think* they can be dodged consistently. That fight irks me only because of a single combo that's so fast it eliminates like half of what would be safe punish windows. I really do love this DLC, and I'm sorry you don't feel the same. I hope Fromsoft's future can find a better middle ground, as it almost seems like some of the die hards are being alienated.

Which is fine at first but I'd hope the player can git gud enough to start beating the bosses consistently without dying a dozen times first and that's the problem. That finally getting gud part doesn't seem to be happening. You gotta use a limited strategy to win, and then cross your fingers that lady luck helps you over the finish line. NOT THE CASE with base game bosses.. Not nearly so... I dunno about you bra but I prefer it to be more skill based and less luck based. For example bosses like the pig, the snake boy, and rad dan all attack you out the gate so you can't summon fast. BUT sometimes they just like... Don't attack lol. Giving you a chance. Lol wtf is that??? Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's hard, based alllll on luck? Okay game...

See how player experiences can massively vary from one person to another. So wtf are you acting like we had the same experience? When it's becoming pretty obvious, based on your condescending tone, that you played on easy mode compared to me lol I'm on ngplus7 dawg.

4... You learned rad danny's every move and bested him ay? Video or it didn't happen. No excuses kid. Every platform you can play this game on has a clip feature. Surely besting Rad danny of the dlc was a huge moment for ya. So why isn't the video proof on your channel for all to see my guy? You're making it sound like it was a big epic deal to you, based on this passionate comment of yours, so where's the video liar? Any 8 yr old with no brain can upload a elden ring clip. 5... You can't master all his moves jackazz. The holy rays are rng dood. Do you even know what that means? It means it's random where the light lands. It can land right in front of the cam blinding you from telegraphing his next attack or it can insta pop up right on you, which stuns you, and makes it easy for him to finish you off. This creates situations where the player must simply die. Luck is seriously involved in the fight. Not just skill. You would know that if you had a brain lol. The majority of the best players agree with me on this. You remind me of all the elden simps telling people to get gud when they complained about the elden beast. Your series on SotE saved me from feeling like I was going crazy. I agree on most points you’ve made. Before people tell me to git gud, I didn’t struggle very much with this DLC. I beat most of the remembrance bosses solo in 1-5 tries each, with Radahn and Rellana as exceptions, and I fought the first Dancing Lion with a friend. Sure, it was hard, but I’ve been playing the Fromsoft soulslike games since I was a little kid and they’re pretty much second nature for me.
Shadow of the Erdtree made me realize that I don’t like how these games are designed anymore. I loved certain moments for sure-Rellana and Romina especially, and the Cerulean Coast and Charo’s Hidden Grave were the prettiest Fromsoft locales I’ve seen-but man, the rest just felt like formulaic “haha game hard” bullshit to me. It feels like From saw how these games get praised for their difficulty and just piled on all the ridiculous combos, flashy attacks, and increasingly narrow dodge windows onto each enemy and boss to meet the community’s expectation of difficulty. I won’t even get started on the Radahn lore, let alone how the presentation of his resurrection makes no sense in the lore laid out by the base game.
I’ve never regretted purchasing a game or DLC in Fromsoft’s catalog until after I beat Radahn and felt relief not for overcoming a challenge, but because I didn’t have to play the game anymore.
Side note: I am surprised by your opinion on the Midra fight. I actually liked him a lot!

I would give the DLC a 9-9.5/10. My main complaints are in regards to the final boss, and some empty areas.
The reuse wasnt too bad personally. The Deathblight Lion was pretty annoying, but the Tree Sentinels and Fallingstar Beast were so late into the DLC, they felt like old friends. Like every other boss and nemy kicking my ass, and then pretty much demolishing two bosses one after th other game me a well needed confidence boost.
I just found the final boss to be kinda jank. His animations cause him to spin in place. Like why doesnt he have a side slam, or any positional openings, or combo alterations. He is shokingly simple made difficult by high damage, and light clone attacks.
He is Gael on steroids and with all the fun reaction play sucked out.
The Finger Ruins and abyssal woods are fine. But the Charo's hidden grave and Cerulean coast needed something more. Personally I like Cerulean coast, since its an easy area thats also easy on the eyes.

Attack chains that are way too long, random attack chain extensions, random hyper armor with no visual communication, scuffed attacks that are undodgeable without a gimmick, visual diarrhea, absurd delays, absurd damage, absurd health, cool ashes of war that are unreasonable to use in 90% of fights, awesome looking spells that are unreasonable to use on 90% of cases, underwhelming loot, weapons in dlc are mostly inferior to base game and the rest powercreep the shit out of anything else, jump attack stagger meta is boring as hell and ruins other methods once used, dlc lore was extremely choppy and didn't properly address much of anything frpm the base game, weird lore retcons (Mogh was still susceptable to an outer god, killing countless people for blood; hes not a cool guy), dissapointing dlc ending that just poofs out of existence, boring scadu fragments, lack of entering the Scadutree, several empty and uninspired areas, horrible input buffering, clear button lag and slow response times, graphical errors and fps drops, jumping to evade attacks isn't consistent and attacks that look to be jumpable aren't, hyper-aggressive bosses leaving little windows to attack, some builds feel unplayable...
Despite all of this, I still found the dlc enjoyable enough, but i can't say it's overall good anymore. It's a really bad direction for the company and the franchise.

From the shadow keep onwards, including the hinterlands, ancients ruins of Rauh, and all of Enir Ilim, I counted zero new enemy types. The closest you get to a new enemy are the hornsent warriors in Enir Ilim but that’s just a reused enemy with a boss’ attack animation slapped on it. I honestly can’t understand how anyone could defend a lack of content this bad as being anything other than rushed and underbaked areas. It’s mountaintop of the giants all over again, From clearly ran out of time to fill things with content, they made the map way too big and didn’t have enough stuff to put in it. But every time that happens I’m left wondering why this game needs to be a gigantic open world if the devs don’t have enough quality and engaging content to support a map of that size.

I do not agree with you about this DLC, I think it is amazing and one of the best DLCs Fromsoft has made, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any flaws, like a lot of the weapons are incredibly unbalanced and most of them are lacking in power. All the remembrance weapons are pretty shitty. The areas look nice but can feel pretty empty sometimes (especially Cerulean Coast). Some of the rewards are rather disappointing (low tier upgrade materials). There was some performance issues at launch, which there still is. Shockingly, I haven't run into any game-breaking bugs yet. The Bosses are incredibly fun though, and Bayle is in my opinion, the best boss fromsoft has ever made, along with Igon being the best VA they have ever had. The Difficulty is shocking, but isn't nearly as bad as people say it is. The Story is really interesting, although pretty much entirely missable if you don't do the questlines. Now finally, I don't think Radahn is unfair, Extremely Hard, yes, unfair, no. The game gives you the tools that can make him significantly easier, But it requires some exploring, like the scadutree fragments to increase your damage, also revered spirit ashes to increase summon damage, and yes, using summons is completely fine, people who say otherwise are the obnoxious and idiotic souls "purists", just ignore them. Another tool that I think makes Radahn way easier, The Talisman of All Crucibles, it mashes all of the crucible talismans into one and it makes rolling better, backsteps better, take less headshot damage, and take less critical hit damage, it does nearly half your defense which is hefty, but it is very worth it for how much more evasive you become. You can also parry Radahn which pretty much trivializes him in it of itself.

Honestly the final boss of the DLC is just so insane and has so much going on that several people get genuine epilepsy attacks from it, it's a literal health hazard. The first phase was pretty fun and has some interesting attacks with not too much going on, other than that triple swing roll catch. But having one third of the decent first phase and then two thirds of literally not being able to see anything is beyond overkill. I don't have much issue with those crazy attacks on their own but having the boss suddenly do all of it in one go, for the majority of the fight, makes the boss so unnecessarily brutal that it becomes tedious to learn, because you get stomped so quickly that you have very little time to learn anything.
I feel if they broke that fight into many more phases that introduces a single new attack in phase two one by one then players would be able to adjust to them in a way that feels natural, so players will only have that final stretch of the fight to worry about everything. Honestly it would make it a much more fun and fair fight while making it far more dynamic and keeping the challenge intact in a way that's a steady climb, and not a spike from sea level to the stratosphere.

Final boss is awful, stupid Miq desperately needs a haircut. Otherwise I liked the DLC a lot, I enjoyed all the exploration and I'm glad the biggest problem I've had with their previous DLCs and even the late game ER dungeons wasn't present - that is, enemy spam. Worst example is the Ringed City stairs with like 10 haralds, that was an awful choice, but pretty much every souls DLC so far spammed way too many enemies except this one. That kind of design incentivizes you to just run through the level and ignore content. The only area that had this problem to some degree in SOTE was Enir Ilim but even then it wasn't as bad as the Haligtree let alone previous entries' DLC areas.

  • @lbfather
    @lbfather 4 місяці тому +4

While i recognize the DLC had its flaws, it also was able to give me that classic Elden ring experience of satisfying exploration i never got from the base game due to guides and spoilers. Elden ring was my first mainline From game, and i was spoiled out of my mind from the community when it first launched. If i could, I would’ve gone back and stopped myself.
But im grateful to the DLC, it gave me so many moments of excitement when i found new, exciting and cool stuff I could now use. I remember that first feeling of excitement when i found the two-hand talisman, thinking just how useful that would be. Aside from the new, novel weapon types (which are always going to be nice to find and use regardless) The bosses were a nice and refreshing challenge.
Going back to the base game feels like a cakewalk, and while i think there definitely IS design flaws in the DLC bosses (for example, bayles lightning breath jank, no hitting radhan being literally impossible without light roll, deflect tear or parries, some unavoidable attacks, gaius’ charge attack, etc) these issues aren’t beyond fixing and don’t soil the experience for me.
I wanted something I could explore, and something that would challenge me (someone who had roughly 700 hrs playtime before DLC dropped) adequately. And I got what I wanted.
My only real complaint is that the map definitely could be condensed, and maybe designed more intuitively. there’s so many side paths that are easily missable that lead to whole new areas. Cerulean Coast, as stated, is mainly large and empty Aside from the abyssal woods (they focused to much on the lantern madness thing gimmick and didn’t put much in there) but the legacy dungeon at the end still made it worth while, despite the area itself being underutilized.

I agree for the most part, having seen all of the review videos. I think one of the biggest problems with the DLC and Elden Ring in general is the combat being basically just DS. I don't want Dark Souls 4, callbacks, any of that. I was optimistic that with Sekiro, they would implement at least some nuances to the combat (and admittedly, there are some), but it was usually a bit lackluster in that regard. Most criticism is met with the same arguments, and that's very disappointing. This is all coming from someone who loved the game and even mostly enjoyed the DLC. Hell, I'll probably be playing it nonstop for the next year. But there are many problems with the game, and I hope From learns that if they want to do these kinds of fights/bosses, they need something more to the combat than what we have now.

Midra is only good because he plays like a Dark souls boss. Let that sink in.
and to be honest Midra is not that good of a boss. Here's the thing, he's the lord of Frenzied Frikkin' Flame.
Just by being in the same room as him we should have a frenzy build up.
Here's how the dungeon should have gone, first make the mansion bigger or give it a basement like the Painted World of Ariandel.
Add switches that populate the boss room with zones that heal or protect you from the passive frenzy build up. This also let's you control how hard you want the boss to be, because you can pull levers to turn the zones on or off during the fight.
Give us a cookbook that crafts an item to resists frenzy somewhere in the area, MAYBE in a cave they so graciously forgot to add to the entire valley.
He has a glowing flame head and a Giant yellow sword. everything about him should cause frenzy build up. Vyke's spear can cause a buildup, but the sword lodged into this guy at the seedbed of Frenzied Flame doesnt? That's just silly.
Im fighting the Lord of Frenzied Flame and I dont feel threatened at all.
At least with safe zones you could keep the bosses slow/ delayed movements while forcing the player to pay attention to their positioning and surroundings.
& dont tell me he's a failed lord of Frenzies Flame. Look at his godamn head and his godamn title! This guy cant frenzy me in seconds but some loser with a stick in a Gaol can? cmon man.

Y'know what? I think you partly explained my disappointment in it, it still felt very cookie cutter for this game / DLC, it *felt* like it "should* be special or unique in some way, and the only things unique about it are 1) the beginning "phase", and 2) the only "proper" boss capable of frenzy. Like ffs, even the Abyssal Woods has more of a unique mechanic overall than this nerd.
I do think your idea of passive Frenzy is a good one, it could be very slow but it would be a good build of tension, especially if the attacks still build on TOP of that. Like heck I think Remina might have a mechanic where rot doesn't go down (or very slowly) once you start building it up, would've been nice if Midra had that too. As it stands the frenzy wasn't a threat, no more than just dying to the boss itself via damage, and who knows maybe it could've had a unique grab attack if Madness goes off. As it stands now I find Lamenter more interesting than Midra with its insta death mechanic

I can't really agree that from didn't "listen" to the community because I don't think there is anywhere near a universal consensus within the community. Like, you mention the world being "too big", but there is a distinct faction for whom having such a large map to explore and discover is the best part of the game.
If anything, I almost feel like complaints about the map being too big are mostly limited to people who find collecting all the flask upgrades on repeat playthroughs tedious, but I think that's a small vocal minority. I think most people play the game once, maybe again for NG+, and then move onto something else.
Likewise, the reused bosses really only become all that noticeable for completionists. Like with the two Astel, both of which are hidden somewhat out of the way, making it entirely possible to miss one or even both of them on a blind playthrough.

To explain some of the lore stuff and voice some of my disappointment for the ending:
    1. Every order needs a Vassal God who rules it, and a lord who enforces and represents it. It has been like that for every order of the game. Placidusax was the first lord to a god's order guided by the Greater Will. The lord of frenzy is lord to the god of the frenzied flame. Marika had two lords and each of them represented a different aspect of the golden order. So in retrospect Miquella seeking a suiting Lord for his order was not unexpected. What was unexpected was that he would be Radahn, but I'll get to that later.
    2. The revival of one's soul is not an outlandish concept in the world of Elden Ring. Miquella had attempted to revive Godwyn's soul in his prime which failed because of Radahn's halting the stars so it's not unexpected when Miquella revives another demigod as his consort.
    2. Miquella's order is an interesting subject and I believe one that really adds to his character. Essentjally Miquella's order is one of peace and acceptance, an age of compassion. But, in order to achieve that, every subject would be under Miquella's spell. So an age of compassion but an age of no free will. Which does rid the world of turmoil and blight, but is essentially a tyrannical rule even though the subjects do not realise it.
    3. The is ONE glaring issue though. The abscence of Godwhyn as the consort to Miquella. Miquella already seemed to share an intimate relationship with Godwhyn, crafted the epitaph sword to grieve him and is known to have attempted to carry out the process of his revival through the means of an eclipse. So why was Radahn Miquella's consort when Godwyn had been built up so much? One logical explanation would be that he was intruiged by Radahn's power after the failure of the eclipse. But that would also be unlikely since it is mentioned that Miquella took a liking to Radahn while they both were still in their youth. To sum up Radahn's resurrection is somewhat of a retcon and ecen though it does not ruin the lore entirely, it is a bit disappointing that Godwyn was not the final consort of Moquella. This is my on problem with the lore as someone who generally is really fond of this game's story and it feels that Radahn was resurrected just for the sake of fighting him in his prime. Otherwise the rest edditions to the story that were introduced in the dlc were exceptional.

    • @azurisuru
      @azurisuru 3 місяці тому +1

It's not even retcon. Godwyn already became Prince of Death. No point in reviving him, he is already a god. Remember Malenia going down south to fight Radahn, it is even in the trailer, she whispers something in his ear. We finally get the answer to that. No retcon, just plots and twists. Miquella having his own designs on par with Ranni's.

28:22 I don't agree with that at all. They re-used one rememberance boss, and it made sense to see them here. The biggest problem with the re-used bosses in the base game were about the dungeons feeling really similar and always ending in some normal mob with a health bar. They really did an effort to not do this in the DLC, every dungeon is much more fleshed out and they almost all have a unique boss, even the two Death Knights have a different moveset.
I have problems with the DLC but it looks to me like you expected it to fix the problems that the base game had instead of just being more of the same (just tuned up to eleven). I know I did and that's why I was disappointed.

I love the DLC. It's basically exactly what I wanted out of this game. It's a little concerning to me that cracks are starting to form around it though. The community was decidedly more mixed on the DLC than I thought it would be. I think From should maybe go back to more linear games. There's enough valid critiques of Elden Ring and Shadow that I don't think Elden Ring 2 or a spiritual successor would be received well unless something drastic changed about the formula. With that said Elden Ring and its expansion is a massive success in my eyes. I thought it was awesome. Potentially my favorite game of all time.

Elden ring and it's DLC are literally the most succesful from software game/Expansion...I doubt that a not-linear Elden ring 2 would have any problem😂
