I thought of one new feature Elden Ring did better than the rest of the games, might discuss it in it's own video 🏺 👀 Previous video: ua-cam.com/video/zItu-3NFHPY/v-deo.html
For me an underrated feature is actually the refilling of the Flasks by killing enemies, meaning if you play relatively well you can go forever without having to reset everything, this makes exploration way more fun.
@@JuanAntonioGarciaHeredia i remember it more in 3 than 2 now that you reminded me it was there. Got some back after killing invaders so your session could go on even longer if you engaged to win.
Yeah, the Rykard fight is amazing. I remember being stubborn and not using the serpent hunter on my first playthrough, then eventually caving in and using it lol
Since the head was reachable without going into the lava, I did the serpent fight without the Serpent Hunter but then lava made it tedious for Rykard so I just used it there hahaha
To be fair you don’t HAVE to use the serpent hunter (it took me a good 3 playthroughs to figure out the serpent hunter so instead I just tanked the lava damage)
Boss Movesets. I love how it feels to successfully dodge a boss's attacks, since even a single main Elden Ring Boss has a more diverse moveset than most bosses throughout the series. Margit is a great example of this, and I also love that he's intended to be one of the first bosses.
How dynamic some bosses move sets flow. The majority of Elden ring bosses feel so smooth. That consistency is more than any other game so far bar sekiro.
Build variety might be my favorite part of ER. After finishing the game using multiple different builds I went and played DS3 and essentially got throught the entire game with a Claymore that you can get at the beginning of the game. Not because I loved the weapon that much, but because literally nothing else I had was nearly as strong.
that's so true. in ds3 I can't help but to use the claymore (partly bc I love it) but in elden ring I can't help but to try new build after new build bc almost all of them are viable
@@mattmab25 this is why I don’t buy it when people say ER has less replayability than the other souls games, if anything it’s superior in that aspect than all the other ones (except Sekiro for different reasons) because of the overwhelming amount of viable builds.
@idespiseamajorityofhumancr8504 the main reason I prefer to replay ER is the difference in mobility. like sure I love ds3 but feeling so clunky by comparison feels bad. but I agree there's only so many times I can use 1 of 5 builds
The reason the storm ruler is so much better in elden ring is because it evens the playing field instead of making you overpower the boss In ds 3 it was either a 20 minute stamina battle or an execution,no in between
The summon poolsign is awesome tbh, I've meet some nice people and helped them with the area and bosses, even show them the secret stuff and all, wholesome part of the community
I'd say objectively, no argument, Elden Ring fixed the worst souls problem by far, the boss run backs. It took them a while to see this huge error but they finally fixed it.
@@ElGitaricoit's kind of like that but not really, because in sekiro you can just sprint through all the monsters, in Dark souls 1 you have much slower movement speed and some areas make it really difficult for your to ignore monsters on the way to boss, making you fight and lose ressources on the way to the boss
RoB is clearly the cursed katana they've been doing since forever (Hiltless, Chaos Blade, Chikage) and its description even says "a cursed weapon that has felled countless men" so it's odd that the price for its power isn't the user's HP especially considering that most blood skills reduce your HP. I think that alone would've been enough balance if the HP cost for using it's AoW was pricey.
Yeah that's definitely a good call, especially since even if its been nerfed, it still completely outclasses Double Slash. Only thing that maybe makes it stronger is Bloodflame or something, but it still doesn't have the range
@@BertoPleaseNagakiba with double slash is very strong and arguably is preferable to RoB. They nerfed the ranged part of Corpse Piler so you’d want to be landing with the weapon anyway and Nagakiba is longer
@@nebulous9280 Nagakiba with double slash and bloodflame blade with successive attack buffs deals insane damage. It’s just as good as pre nerf RoB, perhaps even better
I really appreciate mentioning build variety in Elden Ring - for me it's one of the main reasons why ER is my favorite and most replayable FromSoftware game. One thing that I'm kinda sad that wasn't mentioned is legacy dungeon design - for me they are best locations that FromSoft ever created and I never had that much fun while exploring locations like in them. I love especially Leyndell, that is probably not only my favorite location in these games, it's my favorite location in any game (It's basically perfect to me and even if it has some flaws they are minor to me).
I briefly mention Legacy Dungeons in the previous video, but not as a con, I do give it praise for those still being mostly solid aspect of Elden RIng 👌
I appreciate people like you, willing to say “hey I like Elden Ring”. I know it doesn’t seem big, but I know people who’d crucify anybody who doesn’t think Elden Ring is complete garbage.
@@khaosinkorporated9493 Yeah Elden Ring seems to have caused a bit of a divide between the old Souls vets (I hate that name) & the ones that loved Bloodborne, Sekiro & kept an open-mind, it’s mostly due to how different it is (open-world design & new boss combat design which is an evolution from the previous Souls games), while both aspects have massively improved over the linear exploration with little to no branching paths (BB had some, I’m looking at you DS3), it made some of the old fanbase feel home sick a little, and decided to take the stuff that the game’s did really good as if it’s a bad thing, which is completely ridiculous, it is coming from that Joseph Anderson video for the most part, it inspired & misinformed a lot of people’s opinions in a really concerning way to where you just can’t have a single discussion about the game without someone criticizing it one way or another, it’s really upsetting, but it’s mostly in the comment sections, look at Ember, Prez, SmoughTown & many other UA-cam channels’ polls, you’ll see Elden Ring plowing through these votes winning almost all the time as the best Soulsborne game by far, most of the criticism coming to ER can be applied to other souls games and it’s ridiculous to see many people pointing them out while announcing their fave souls game is either BB or DS3, it’s so hypocritical. Put simply, Elden Ring has made very audacious game design efforts, and From Software has successfully achieved it in ways no other game developer can do, albeit with some mistakes here and there, it destroys the past Souls games in so many ways it’s not even funny, but at the same time, some older souls fans didn’t like some of the decisions it took which is to be expected because it’s a pretty big departure, and a departure that has (IMO) sullied the older Souls games, made them feel outdated.
@@HeyTarnished I also feel like many of the complaints came from all the copy-pasting, which is fair. Also not all of the unique bosses were hits either. I always loved Elden Ring for the sheer creativity, the variety, and all the different and fun ways to play. Also, I can see what you mean by other FromSoft games feeling outdated by comparison, but honestly, I don’t mind. The original Spyro the Dragon games for example may feel outdated in terms of graphics and some of its controls, but they’re still good games. Dark Souls has some stuff that can be considered outdated but I still enjoy the game quite a lot. Elden Ring doesn’t ruin that. It takes a while to get used to each FromSoft title, that’s just part of their philosophy. If you play Elden Ring and then play Dark Souls, you’ll have to adapt to Dark Souls again. If you play Elden Ring after Dark Souls, you’ll have to get use to the Elden Ring controls again. These games just take a while to get used to, the more you play them, the more used to them you get, and often, the more you enjoy them. That’s just kinda the philosophy of these game’s design. I kinda went on a rant there, and what I’m saying may be a little scattershot, but I just thought since you gave such a detailed response I may as well do that too.
@@khaosinkorporated9493 Thank you for your response, and yeah I agree there are negatives with Elden Ring for sure but it's like they're so overblown by some of the people in the Souls community that it gets really annoying to have a civil discussion about the game, and it always happens with the newest From Software game, happened with BB, DS3, Sekiro and now Elden Ring. Thanks again.
At time of release, I remember being able to freely apply and change affinities felt *huge*, and I definitely take it for granted playing now. Technically covered in the ashes of war point, I suppose, but I think that system is a massive improvement over any of the Souls iterations.
Elden was made the way it was because the previous titles tested out ideas, and slowly improved it, it has nothing to do with "who did it better " its an evolution that's it.
@@BertoPlease It doesn't matter, in the end it's a plus, weather it's a big improvement or a down grade, the series is progressing forward and that's what's important, not the small details.
@@lastexilegaming I agree to an extent. Elden Ring just does a lot of things right, while previous games shine in a handful of things yet fail in others. It's not a perfect game, but the amount of positive elements can outshine the positive of individual titles.
I think as a whole ds3 has a better overall invasions due to the way embers aren't just a free 30% hp boot but come with the risk of invaders as well as the positives of summons, I do feel like the gank only gameplay will be enjoyable for some people but I think it will harm the games life(for invasions). But the both near and far system that you mentioned should of definitely been in the other games as well.
I DO really enjoy the ember buffing, it gives like the opposite feeling that getting HP halfed in DeS or DS2 does, giving you more confidence, even if they are both balanced accordingly
@@Sohelanthropus For real!!! You can get solo invaded with Taunters Tongue, but invaders know you deliberately wanted to get invaded and they switch their mentality and start tryharding like hell. In DS3 invasion occured randomly and both the host and the invader were more laid back
Yesss! DS3 is by far the best game for invasions. Players are occasionally eligible for invasions just by progressing, but it's still completely voluntary. I always loved occasionally being surprised by an invader after beating a boss, and I feel like I encountered them at just the right frequency
@@JuanAntonioGarciaHeredia not just DS3, but DeS, DS1 and 2 too And DS2 perfected it, it made it so the invader couldn't heal with Flasks or any other consumable, which made solo host invasions actually balanced (although squads not so much) Solo host invasions must return, but make it balanced like DS2 so that the invader can't use healing items if he invaded a solo host; if the host then summons or a blue comes in, the invader can now be allowed to heal Very simple concept
I loved Yhorm the Giant. It's one of my favorite fights of DS3. Thing is though... that I fought him without the sword lmao. I'm stupid, so I didn't think of picking up the item at his throne. And I actually enjoyed the fight. I just thought the gimick that the game was expecting was to hit him in his arms when he goes down. So I did that. It still took a while, but it was fun and intense.
I'm glad you enjoyed it regardless, it's just definitely not an ideal way to do this kind of gimmick, it missed a lot of the nuisance of Storm king, and def think they made it more clear what to do in ER
you should try the convergence mod, it replaces the gimmicky side of dark souls 3's bosses for something more regular. Yohrm gets an actual fight and so does Wolnir. The cursed great tree is even repalced with a character with part of sekiro's Owl's moveset. It's an especially good mod for its expanded magic gameplay systems
To me in terms of gameplay, the build variety and the boss hitboxes (for the most part) are the things that Elden Ring improved upon from previous entries. Though Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne already had pretty good hitboxes already.
Hitboxes? God no. There are bosses who will get you if they land a leap attack 10-15 feet away with no visible shockwave. Don’t tell me that any of the agheel dragons, fire giant, the death birds, dragonkin soldiers, ulcerated tree spirits, runebears or fallingstar beasts have fluid and fair hitboxes
What I really like about the Serpent-Hunter is the fact, that the weapon is actually viable in the game. I found that really annoying in Demon's Souls and DS3, that it is just there for the boss fight and after that it was basically useless.
me personally, the boss consistency. A lot of weirdos seem to think that having a couple copy-pasted bosses automatically make them bad- which you can think i guess- but to me i just enjoy it. Every single boss in this game is GOOD, anyway. Take Bloodborne, the game that for some reason everyone hails as the flawless masterpiece- it has 7 non-optional bad bosses in a _row._ Shadows, Rom, One Reborn, Mico, Wet Nurse, Gehrman and Flora. Elden Ring has 2, Fire Giant and Duo. That's not even including all of the amazing optional bosses like the Crucible Knights, Tree Sentinals, Loretta, the Godskins (on their own), the Gargoyles (on their own), etc. Every boss in ER is *at least* good. At best, theyre some of the greatest theyve ever made.
I feel like Yorm could of been a better fight if they didn't give you the Storm Ruler at all the first time around, but instead made you fight "normally" but if you were struggling on him the game would give you a hint about Siegward. Letting you know he can be a great help to the fight and during the fight he would use Storm Ruler to break Yorm's stance, letting you get a damage window in. After the fight is over like it happens in game now, Siegward would give you his Storm Ruler for helping him on his quest, making NG+ playthroughs quicker and easier for a boss you've completed already. I know Siegward can disappear if you don't do his quest in a timely manner but you just negate it by removing the boss kill time window for him. Just my thoughts on it, he seems to be a big waste of potential for a Lord of Cinder.
Elden ring did the entirity of the combat system better than DS3, objectively it's literally just an improved version of it, same goes for the magic system. I still have a hard time playing DS3 without trying to initiate a jump attack or guard counter lol. Also another thing Elden Ring did better are the legacy dungeons, their design is fucking fantastic, each one of em had a unique atmosphere and approach to design and exploration, and also they are all explorable which makes it all so much better than previous legacy dungeons. Leyndell will always be on top. For sekiro I'd say the music or mini-bosses, as they were more complex and varied in ER than sekiro for me. Also i disagree with DS1, Elden Ring did almost everything better than it, especially the area design as we all know how big of a fall DS1 second half is. There are so many things that Elden Ring does better and improve upon from part souls game and it's sad how many people gloss over them, we need more appreciation for elden ring.
Summoning pools are by far my favourite feature of Elden Ring. As someone who loves a good bit of Jolly Cooperation being able to be summoned all over the world gives you so much more diversity in play as you're not just stuck to one boss or area. Brilliant feature.
You see. I needed a video like this. After this other guys trying to always say how the other games did stuff better or how my bother constantly trash takes on the bosses, especially Rykard, finding someone who is actually willing to bring up the better stuff makes me happy. Thank you.
Another great thing about serpent hunter is that it’s actually a really good weapon beyond its use in the boss fight. I love storm rulers design but in both demons souls and ds3 it just isn’t very good when used as an actual weapon. While storm ruler usually winds up collecting dust in your storage box after the boss fight serpent hunter can become the weapon that carries you through the rest of the game.
Yhorm is enjoyable if you do Onion Bro's questline. I just keep dancing around Yhorm's feet, drawing aggro, while Siggy does the big numbers with his Storm Ruler.
I found it odd that people were as critical of you in the last video. It was very apparent to me that you were a huge fan of the series that just wanted to make a video on a fun thought experiment you had. Side note: this video popped in my feed which tells me UA-cam is promoting it a little. Fingers crossed it gets the same traction as the last video, as you very clearly give a passionate and professional viewpoint on the series which is always appreciated and very refreshing.
Yeah fun thought experiment is how I'd put it, I never claimed one game is actively better than the others in the last video haha so far its my top video out of the last, including the last one, so if the momentum keeps going, it might do just as good or better! Fingers crossed indeed 🤞
Great video, I have beaten all the Soulsborne games, and I still think Elden Ring is the best one in the entire series. It has the best combat especially when it's against the main bosses, best main bosses, legacy dungeons & the OST is comparable to the best of Bloodborne & Dark Souls 3, has the most varied content, enemies, weapons, magics, environments, can't wait for the DLC though.
i actually think the level design of elden ring is the best in the serise and its not even close thats coming from someone who adore the level desgin of dark souls 1, i mean elden ring is the only game that didnt make me hate any specific area within it ,besides i loved the exploration aspect because it felt like you actually exploring something freely
agreed, not a single area in the older games, including their dlcs, come even close to a single legacy dungeon in level design complexity, and thats because theyre designed with jumping in mind, now add the open world and underground to the mix where theyre designed for your double jumping horse, and i find it laughable to say the older games have better level design.
I kind of agree, though The layouts of things (Enemies, etc) oftentimes lack strategy since they're non-specific to the space (instead theyre reused, hence the messed up agro-ranges/targetting distances also); it feels like the enemies came afterward the level planning; sonetimes like they just threw them in, and their layouts lack strategy/planning. It feels mostly like the opposite in their other videogames. The pairings of types of Enemies/bosses more so than other Fromsoft feel genuinely awful. Since they're not specifically designed around one another's movesets, their movements often contradict each other, making reactions to them unfair. Their proximity makes getting ganged feel un avoidable. Rewards obtained through items/chests oftentines felt kind of useful (Useless material/items, or build specific unlocks that personally were worthless).
Yeah. Compared to previous games, which always had 1 or 2 terrible levels, Elden Ring just has a high level of quality. Even the mediocre ones like Lake of Rot and parts of Mountaintops, are much better designed than Lost Izalith, Farron Keep and Nightmare Frontier/Mentis.
I watched your other video a couple of days ago while I was busy, and I didn't even pay attention to who was speaking. Saw this video this morning with much more attention, and I am impressed with your cadence and communication skills! You mentioned how the last video blew up, so I decided to look at your subs (4.22k at comment time), and I'm excited to continue watching your videos. I think if you keep up the videos and community involvement, you'll see definitely see exponential growth. Ya gained a viewer today!
I understand, I'm very forgettable 😔 Jk d'aww I appreciate it 😌 Slowly but surely! I think I started with like 1.5k or 2k, and I'm almost at 5k by halfway through the year!
I killed Rykard on my first play through with the lordsworn knights sword, I didn't know there was a gimmick wepon till the 3rd play through when I started researching the games more .. I also killed the elder beast with that sword on my first play through with the standard ash of war .. very effective
regarding the Invasions/PvP thing: I really liked Dark Souls 3 and it was my first time playing a Souls game, but the invaders were actually what kinda killed my enjoyment along the way. I'd find myself in a new area and boom, invaded and destroyed (cuz I didnt know what the heck i was doing) so I had to respawn and cancel out all the hard work I'd done to get where I was, only to be invaded again and kicked back. This would even happen during bosses; I got an invader who got into Wolnir's Boss Arena with me, and when Wolnir would strike and I move out of the way, the invader tried to attack (ended up beating the invader with a Seed of a Giant Tree). My experience with Elden Ring has been much better since I can't have my progression set back by trolling players unless I have a friend with me, and even then, I find the invasions to be a fun little mix-up between bosses. I know there are some people out there who love invading and having duels and stuff, but I genuinely felt like DS3 was kinda shitty at times because I couldn't progress or explore due to the constant invasions.
I've always preferred the games that have a coop group as the main invading target for that reason, if I invade someone solo who clearly doesn't know what they're doing, it just felt like bullying to me. Whilst in a 2v1 and 3v1 scenario at least you have to have SOME skill to be able to defeat the group, and hopefully, like it sounds like it did for you, it at least feels more balanced or even. Unfortunately a good vocal chunk of the community doesnt see it this way and just complains about invaders "ruining their jolly coop" with no regard to the fact that coop can really break the game in your favor, yknow, the game thats supposed to be *hard*
@@BertoPlease I love the ER invasions, they definitely feel more balanced for my taste. If someone playing ER wants that DS3 feel, they should just use the Taunter's Tongue. I'd wager that a good number of people complaining about not being able to invade like they used to in DS3 are the same types who loved to set people back like what happened with me, just beating up on people who may or may not know how to even play the game.
I love how the series has evolved over time. I genuinely feel that Elden Ring is perhaps the best overall experience, but is only richer with the playthroughs of the predecessors, showing what they've learned over the years. I do miss some aspects of earlier games, but that's not saying they won't ever bring them back. After all, we got the FP bar from Demon Souls back starting with DS3 again, so who knows what the future may hold?
As a cosplayer, Elden Ring has been my favorite hands down. The ashes of war and clothing combos fit better for cosplays than any previous souls game. I've made about 30 at this point, its one of the main things that keeps me playing, and at least 10% of my playtime has been spent at the mirror lmao. Also, the mirror! I can change my appearance anytime, and change my gender to make my voice better for my cosplays, for example, my Edward Elric cosplay is set to female since his voice is higher pitched than any of the male options. I don't have to restart a cosplay due to any little mistake, or to change the name, and I can make as many cosplays to switch between as I want within the limits of the 15 saved faces.
I wish they had more variety in terms of female body type. I know it is not stellar blade but I want a curvy type female characrer so that weaong the albinaric chainmain or prelate armor makes some sense. Or chest size which no matter how big you select still is unnoticeable. Bring back desert pyromancer and witches set from DS3.
I've beaten every fromsoft game multiple times except demon souls. I consider Elden Ring the best of them all and a true 10/10. All 3 dark souls + bloodborne + sekiro do one or two things (max) better than elden ring, but ER is a masterpiece because it excels in every critiqued category. Plus its the best open world of all time IMO.
One think ER does the best by a long shot over other games imo is the lore told through the environment, Is incredible to see that some events in the game are not told by cuscenes not character dialogues, but you just see it by what you see, like the Dragon who attacked Stormveil, and probably was slayed when you fight Godrick, that some part of Altus are afected by deathblight because Godwin corpse is under there, that the main reason General Radanh halted the stars was because things like Astel, who arguably destroyed some cities, that one of the reasons of why Liurnia is has part of the civilization a bit underground may be because the floor got weakened after eroding for a long time (the lake of rot is underneath), that Farum Azula probably went above Limgrave due to the ruins you can find, included the beast of Farum Azula you can find, that Rykard actually loves Radanh a lot and thats why he has a painting of him, as well as Radanh having those giant mechanic Faces as Soldiers very likely Rykard built, who also has his mother Rennala, that Caelid was before the city of Magic and Dragons, and where Radanh learnt his magic powers... Those kind of things makes you realize how well the lore is told. You may say what you want about ER, but discovering the story like making an archeology expedition is fantastic.
@@BertoPleaseFor me its my favorite, seeing a lot of races with their own cults, enemies doing their business, so many lore interations between bosses... It is a new way to appreciate this game apart of the combat.
@@BertoPleasethe older games were pretty good at that but ER is easily the best, one example among thousands is why you dont see giant trolls in chains in liurnia, trolls were on good terms with the carians and in fact joined forces to fight against the golden order in the shattering war, trolls were never enslaved there, u can see so many trolls in liurnia with magic spells and even magic helmets in that area. theyre one of the reasons the golden order never won against the carians and resorted to marying off radagon to the queen to achieve some peace between them, the older games dont really have this type of density in environmental story telling, the fact that its this big and retains this type of quality in environmental storytelling makes it better than the older games in that regard as far as im concerned.
About the Demon Souls one, I think Yhorm is a better improvement in gimmick bossfight. What I mean, is that you can defeat Yhorm WITHOUT the storm ruler by hitting his right arm(weapon holding one) or head, while dealing good damage this way(and getting a frequent ripostes). While Rycard has the spectacle, which I like, if you fight Yorhm by riposte, you spend more than 20 seconds in his bossfight, so you can see more of his attacks, which are cool. This way, I prefer Yhorm more than Rykard. I know that you can fight Rykard without serpenthunter, but when I tried it, I realised, that it would take eternity to beat him(and a lot of poise and fire resist). So, if you never tried fighting Yhorm this way, give it a shot, it's fun.But don't forget to take vertical attacking weapon, or you won't have enough reach. Zerolenny was able to do it with a broken sword, I was able to do it with a Greatsword of Artorias. Also, there is one thing I like about spells in DS2. Spices. You can lower stat required for the spell you like. Just a little thought on the topic.
are you saying the rykard fight lasts 20 seconds? I bet you upgrade serpent hunter to +10 before you fight him....try fighting him without upgrading it then you'll get to see his moves
@@ramen3643 No, I was not saying that Rykard lasts 20 seconds. Quite opposite, actually. I've never upgraded SH past +0. I was saying that you can see more cool moves from Yhorm if not using storm ruler. And, as I said, I like the spectacle of Rykard.Skull rain is a sight to see for sure. But in terms of gameplay, I don't like dodging his attacks. Like this lava wave in first phase. But I do like dodging Yhorm's attacks. And they are cool too.
Yhorm moveset is poor, when you hit his head he mostly repeats the same attack, the double hand weapon slam. The arena is pretty uninteresting, ost is good, you only do one attack with the storm ruler. Rykard's fight is better in every single way.
@@lahunica2726 I can agree that Yhorm have poor moveset. But Rykard's fight isn't better in every way. Rykard's arena feels small to me(but looks cooler), because I always getting backed up to the walls or to the pillars. Also, while he has more attacks, some of them are just unfun, like magma wave in first phase and rancor in the second, skull rain while looks cool, can be dodged by only running, and Rykard can still hit you with his other attacks,so you have to run away from him. Overall, you have to run much more in Rykard's fight, which isn't all that fun to me. For the most part, I just skip Rykard. OST are good on both, can't deny that.
@@dimpizz1525 rykard's arena isn't too small if you keep circling him, the rancor is easy to deal with if you just stay out of it's way and most of his sword swings you can just jump over while running from the skulls.
The build variety is crazy I have Lvl 300 Gandalf Lvl 252 Kratos Lvl 136 King Leonidas Lvl 90 Heimdal Lvl 57 Aragorn Lvl 246 Geralt of Rivia Lvl 163 Prince of Persia (Sand of Time version, Warrior Within version and Sand monster version from Two Thrones)
One thing that I also really liked about the Erdtree Avatars was that they felt like way more of an event, even if they’re one of the most recycled bosses in that game. The one in the middle of Leyndell was really cool too, scared the shit out of me when i first found it.
I think a lot of people, including me, don't hate invasions as Concepts but are pissed of about he huge amount of rude people in the community. You kill me as an invader? Fair. But don't be so cocky about it and use the pointing down gesture Edit: or throw a dung pie after killing me like wtf?? Who hurt you
In fairness a lot of hosts and their summons will do that too lol, but given that its usually a 3v1 gank its just ridiculous when THEY get cocky. But yeah nah both sides can be toxic
@@BertoPlease yeah I know what you mean, but then it's usually intended pvp. I'm more pissed off when I get invaded half through an area, low on estus, get killed by the invader and he Acts cocky about it. Even more frustrating when I'm sginaling that I'm clearly not interested in pvp but forgot to go offline/want to play with messages/stumble upon some summon signs cuz traversing an area in coop is fun af
For me the thing ER does better than the rest of the Souls games is the combat system, especially against bosses. It's something that's been very controversial, because it doesn't follow the mold of "have roll, will travel" as earlier games, particularly Dark Souls 3, which has pissed a lot of veterans off. Instead, it makes every defensive option (rolling, jumping, running, blocking) useful in different ways for different attacks, which makes learning the boss movesets way more engaging than just learning when to roll. On top of the stagger system rewarding the use of strong attacks, which require a fair bit more work to set up, it motivates a much more complete understanding of the bosses' attacks than previous games. Sekiro does do this slightly better, but mostly because it does a better job onboarding players into having to use a wider range of defensive tools than they may be used to.
Completely agree. I think the only thing I would fault Elden Ring for in this sense is its failure to communicate what is different about its combat systems. For instance, I discovered that Elden Ring played differently from DS3 by sheer coincidence. In Margit's fight after a while he starts doing a double slash + cane stab into the ground combo, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to dodge all three attacks. One try by pure chance I dodged two times away from him instead of towards him and completely avoided the attack, which made me think "If I have to dodge away from him then I can't punish him, which means that attack is bullshit", but then I remembered I had the jump button. Next time he did the attack, I dodge twice backwards, and then did a jump + light attack as a punish, and it worked. That really opened my mind about how different Elden Ring's combat systems could be, simply because in Bloodborne/DS3 dodging towards the enemy is the answer 99% of the time. Another key difference between how I played and how every other Souls veteran played was how I avoided slow attacks. While others tried to dodge all slow attacks exactly in time, I simply ran away. Turns out Elden Ring has much better mobility when compared to other Soulsborne titles (I suspect that is the case because of the open world), and I used that so every time a boss held an attack I would simply avoid it entirely instead of potentially being struck while trying to dodge it. As a result, I had way too much fun weaving out of bosses' movesets and coming back to punish with a running attack/jump attack. The problem really isn't how different Elden Ring's combat experience can feel, but rather the fact that the game never made any efforts towards communicating these changes to old players. I saw hundreds of people thinking ER's bosses were bullshit because of the seemingly unavoidable combos and the dragged out attacks, when all it took for me to enjoy those fights was getting my head out of the Soulsborne box. If not for Margit's seemingly unavoidable three hit combo and my own stubborness, maybe I would have been on the same boat as the disgruntled Souls veterans.
@@Erick-tv8oq That's an amazing summary of the issue, yeah. I managed to figure it out partly because I happened to have just finished a Sekiro run, so I was primed for combat that demanded more than rolling, and partly because my first boss was the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in the Hero's Grave you start at, and that boss basically forced me to use all the game's tools to beat it, including running (because of the explosion attack), and that required the most letting go of old habits. Did teach me very quickly that with ER's shorter roll distance, if you roll more than once in a row in order to reposition, you would have been better off running.
@@Erick-tv8oq i mean... when i was a souls noob i thought the same thing of the older games, then a figured out that i can dodge to the side or into certain attacks, figuring things out is part of the process of mastering the combat system and i dont think they failed to communicate anything because they never did that to begin with, its always been like this since demons souls. im glad to see more souls vets getting over their fragile souls egos cuz they couldnt figure out elden rings far better and deeper combat system and blamed the game for it, im not talking about u 2 though, im talking about alot of souls vets, especially on youtube, that bitched and moaned and blamed ER for their own failures and never attempted to actually master ER combat before judging it.
Ds3 pissed me off, rarely punished spamming rolling. Plus, cancelling the longer, harder attacks is fucking garbage; completely removes the rule of having to commit to actions, again rewarding spamming rolls (also incentivised from having higher stamina, lower poise). It feels more based off of just one's reflexes than planning/positioning or strategy. I like that Elden Ring tried to course-correct this design decision, often successfully too. Unfortunately to me it sonetimes feels genuinely artificial; the input reading is straight-up nonsense sometimes, I've started my movements, then the enemies/boss uses their delayed attacks... they read this prior input, and I'm immediately hit. Plus the timing messes up the fast-paced flow of gamefeel.
One of the main criticisms of Souls games, that has once again reared its head in Elden Ring, is how defensive people in the community get over their favorite game. There's a decent chunk of people who just can't take criticism towards their favorite game, and just assume you must either be hating the game just to be different, or that you just aren't good at it, and therefore think its bad because you can't do well. Sekiro gets this issue the worst imo, with Bloodborne being second. I personally find Sekiro to be very overrated (still a good game, just not for me, and has several things I would've preferred to be handled differently) while I love Bloodborne, even though the graphics and framerate leave a lot to be desired nowadays. The more open the community is to criticism about their games, the better the feedback we can give to FromSoft, and the better they can make their games. p.s. the thing I think ER did better than previous games was enemy placement. DS2 (sotf) was especially bad about it, but all the games have moments where I can remember just fuming over certain sections and how annoyingly painful it was to get through them. Elden Ring is unique in that, most of the time, the annoying encounters are avoidable, which is a downright miracle considering how big the game is. Haligtree town and the branches before it can still burn in a dumpster fire though. Getting one-shot by ants or bubbles because I mistimed a roll or literally getting pushed off the map is not a good time.
@wowdogeful oh, you don't like how fast elden rings combat is? Have you tried dodging attacks? Meanwhile the person saying it either spams RoB or just uses comet azur to insta kill every boss
Yeah, not taking criticism or just not understanding that people just have different opinion is something awful in souls community. Like for example, for me Bloodborne never was my favorite game and I never enjoyed it like most people (I'm not hating it, it's still very good game and I like it a lot), and when I'm saying that BB is on 4th place for me a lot of people are reacting like "what?!? How you dare to not love BB! ". I never understood why people are reacting like that.
Bloodborne and Dark souls fans are the most annoying in this aspect, many of them will try so hard to disguise their hate and biased, nitpicky takes as "valid criticism" towards Elden Ring which is really annoying, and when you try and also direct valid criticism towards their game, they'll lose their shit.
BASED also yeah I think due to the game being open world, they didn't try as hard as normal to have enemies block your path. To some degree I get it in those games, though they do go overboard at times, but yeah this game it woulda made it awful
yeah to the topic of forced coop invasions ill say that when i wanna 1v1 properly, i just go to colosseum, but when i invade normally, im invading someone's coop with the homies, the world doesnt revolve around me and im essentially playing a heel in that game as an invader, im an enemy just like everything else, just a much more complex one plus i play a lot of coop with my brother and a friend, and we FREQUENTLY run into people with items from far into the game even at low levels, so the invaders usually have the advantage of a finished build when the coopers are usually just progressing unless im really making my current setup for pvp instead of something gimmicky (much more fun imo) i ussually find that 2v1s against our invaders feel pretty fair cause we are a little weaker than them gear wise at the stage we are, 3v1s feel a little more sided to us since there are stunlocks sometimes and a buttload of pressure, but the patient invaders tend to do well still, whenever i see a 1v3 when i invade i tend to try and get other enemies into the fight one problem is definitely the mfers that chill with a gank and wait for invaders though haha good vid!
Yeah that's what irks me about people who complain about the pvp in this game in particular, the 2v1 aspect to it still does a lot of carrying in terms of balance towards the host's team, and it's pretty much a balancing mechanic because coop always makes these games easier, especially if you have an overleveled friend. It's just funny to me because they'd probably hate it even more in the previous games where you can be invaded solo haha
i never did understand the flame against the invasion, because me and my homies have been invaded dozens of time when we were just playing the game(one of them was new), and we only got wiped once, al the other invaders were there one second and gone the next.
one thing I wish they could still do is add more invasion verity of phantoms, not too many but enough to make it more interesting or chaotic like with Mound Makers or bring back something that hasn't been used in awhile like Gravelord servants, Dark Souls 1 blade's of the darkmoon (hunting sinners), or even something like hunters of hunters from bloodborne.
Finally someone... I was discussing this a week ago with one of my friend that I wished they had carried over some of the interesting conevenant concept from DS1 and DS3. And I explained to him what gravelording is and how I actually experienced it a bunch of times playing on Switch. I think covenants concepts could have been handed over to different NPC here. Volcano Manor Bernhaul could have been one. Fia White Masked Varre and such or they could have different monuments or NPCs altogether. I also wanted them to bring back the vagrant mechanics and that you can report an invader if you have the list but make it cost some resource as well.
Boss quality is also far superior on an average basis compared to prior titles if you think about it. Yes, right, there’s a ton of filler bosses and regular enemies with a glorified naked healthbar, but regarding the major ones or even how minibosses play out, they’re so well delivered overall. Most of the DS1 base game bosses are super underwhelming/uninteresting, DeS is filled with…well, gimmick bosses that pose no challenge, DS2 has a lot of filler and awful runbacks, BB bosses are very uncreative from a mechanical standpoint or are flat out uninteresting, DS3 has a more decent output but there are still very weak ones like Oceiros or the tree, and lastly Sekiro has pound for pound the most filler, and really the only good ones for the most part are the memory bosses except for monkeys and the ape duo. People are really getting carried by salty rages from some UA-camrs or redditors and makes me feel like, to an extent, the controversial boss design and quality of elden ring is being severely underestimated.
Seems like people want to believe RPGs and Open World games don't have mini bosses and reused enemies. Yes, some are not great, but considering the variety and quantity, and when you actually evaluate the main bosses, the quality as an RPG and as an Open World is extremely high. And yeah, if we critically evaluate the previous game like Elden Ring, there's more lows and inconsistencies to find in those games, since each have strength and weaknesses. I blame Joseph Anderson's critique for forcing the idea that you have to hit trade but also everything will be oneshots and endless combos. It does wonders learning that ER does not operates like DS3 and demands more from you.
I wholeheartedly agree with this take. Tbh it just seems to me like this game got so many negative critiques mostly for being popular and the newer title, although I don’t deny it has its issues.
Something I will say is that people comparing the level design of elden ring to the souls games is kinda weird(not talking about legacy dungeons). Its not a souls game it's it's own thing (sort of a spin off, like saying sekiro is worse then ds1 because there is more weapons in ds1) I've seen lots of poeple say its worse because they prefer the linear gameplay of the souls seriers. Its not worse because its open world or better, its just different and when you view the game that way instead of comparing it to other games it make both the souls seires and elden ring seem much better.
That's mostly and internet discourse thing. People are so fixated in what they like and dislike without having a middle ground or impartial though of why things are like they are. Regardless of what people think, Elden Ring is highly awarded, highly regarded and considered the culmination of Soulsborne design.
I hate when people think nostalgia is a bad reason to like a game, playing a game isn’t just about having better mechanics and gameplay. The feeling you get from any game, whether it was when you were 8 or 28, is the only thing that matters. And if you enjoyed an older game because it made you happier at the time you should like it more than a game that is *objectively* better because to you, it doesn’t bring that same level of joy.
I also think people can have nostalgia AND see the flaws in something, but they can live with them, etc, but thats definitely not me, im nostalgic for way older things than the souls series lmao
but u shouldnt let nostalgia cloud ur bias and make u hate the newer games, getting so bad that you falsely critique a certain new game because of blind bias... cough cough!! **ds1 and especially bloodborne fanboys** cough cough!!
I love how they reused enemy movesets. On the first playthrough, it was really fun meeting the little cat-golems and vaguely recognising the moveset, until I realised it is the same moveset as the thralls in DS3! And it shows another plus: fast enemies like the thrally were really annoying in DS3 due to no post and using shiels was... boring. But in ER, tgey are perfectly countered with guard counters and a great techer for it. I really enjoyed the video, now on to the previous one you talked about!
3:30 WRONG. You just need a finger remedy active. No friend needed. Blues will pop in taking the place of the second and third summons. Mad tounge makes the second blue and invader appear. Blues are much slower then reds get called in, so watch out. The "needs friends for invasion" is annoying since theres a lot of people who want to invade without all the constant ganking. And the co-oper would probably bitch less about it since theres less peopleinvading them and more who are able to invade people who want that. Also i bleive most invavaders have a good respect for a solo host who wants invaders, most. Adding a slight 1-5% rune boost to the remedy would also be an ok idea in my mind so more peoole autually want to use it, and feel like its not only a punishment item for solo players, but a risk reward item. Its not out of the realm of idea for a change in the game considering the biggdr patches in the past.
Don't let personal attacks get you down (obvs easier to say than do, but you don't deserve them). This was the first of your videos I've seen and it was interesting! Thank you :).
I agree that Elden Ring handeled the spells themselves better than DS2 for the most part. Yet on the otherhand, Elden Ring did very poorly by comparison to DS2 in terms of caster support mechanics and items.
idk what ur on abt the activity of pvp in bloodborne cause i still find matches within like 5 minutes and i cant find any on elden ring at times. i 100% agree with the rest of the video tho
whenever I was getting footage I tried a ton of different level ranges in BB and corresponding areas and it still took sometimes like 15+ minutes to match up with anyone, and it certainly doesn't help that there's no indicator of where there's activity in your level like in DS3 or something. Genuinely surprised it took you longer in ER, but there's also a ton of factors that affect it (platform, weapon level not matching level range, areas unlocked, etc)
Storm Ruler Varient, that's kind of unfounded; technically/mechanically it's improved, though thematically I'm not sure Storm King is supposed to feel grand, or seem that epic deep or challenging because apparently...They're prey, they're hunted-down they're slaughtered; I think It's intentionally simplistic, it's role-reversal they're previously quite imposing; now they're rendered much simpler: The hunter is now the prey. It is kind of somber, it's not outright gratifying feeling; they're sort of like animals, though they possess demonic soul's. Not like it is in the remake, (they messed up the tone remaking the original ps3 version) it's not necessarily improved, they're not quite the same.
9:30 funny because I got teleported to Rykard's arena from some quest before and you are teleported way ahead of storm ruler so I never seen it until I had to rerun to it after death
What Elden Ring did better than every Soulsborne game IMO is the mount, Torrent is way better than the older ones, is almost not a competition. For real tho, definitively the build variety. There is not even a comparison, armor, weapons, ashes, spirits, spells. There is so much customization that I would die of age before saying "there is nothing else to try". But on the bad hand, and I'm saying here just because I watched the videos back to back :3 , Elden Ring reuses bosses and enemies to an extreme. Even main bosses (looking at you Astel that have no reason to be in a random cave in the middle of nowhere), and can someone tell Miyazaki that shoving two enemies on the same arena don't make a new one, it doesn't matter if they are technically a pair (*stares intensively to Foreskin Duo)
I actually like the Rykard fight, but I’m not a souls vet so yeah last time I did it I even added talismans that help boost the Serpent spear and used a mimic and just watching Rykard get melted was so much fun
one of my favorite things elden ring did was to add spirit ashes. the imps/vulgar militia carried me through the early/mid game and i had a lot of fun trying to find other ashes too. i remember entering the hero dungeons to get those really good ashes and getting stuck on those puzzles for hours. the open world was also really good imo. it being pretty and having a sense of danger made it really fun to explore, i also liked finding dungeons and caves.
13:08 the main issue with the pools is that you have to activate them. I'd like to use them, but you'd need to go around an entire region, activating multiple summoning stakes, just to make sure players will even see your sign.
For me, the #1 thing is backstabs. It may not fit into the video's criteria, but it's very impactful, especially in PvP. I will take accidental backstab attempts over the whole meta revolving around it, any day. It also makes them require skill to pull off, and gives dodge AoWs a unique use, aside from i-frames.
@@BertoPlease On that note, as well, I think BB had the perfect fix for backstabs, the only problem being that critical hits were way too powerful. Why they didn't stick with this is beyond me... I really like what Inferno Plus did in his "remastest" mod, where he made backstabs executed by kicking, instead of R1. He also gave daggers a shorter window, allowing them to properly utilize their critical bonus.
@@paradigm_sh1ft In some ways you can backstab similarly to Bloodborne in Elden Ring, but only on mobs. At least in the stealth way. You get more poise damage if you're undetected, so a charge attack after sneaking up from behind will usually give you a stance break and opportunity to riposte. That's the most efficient way to do stealth, as you are actually be able to immediately kill some soldier types this way. Just a shame, that players can't stance break.
One thing i’ll say, I just replayed DS1 and 3 and Elden Ring just feels so much smoother to play. It feels like the best version of Dark Souls combat with so many options in how you can play the game. I didn’t enjoy the bosses much at first but after playing this game numerous times now I do enjoy fighting the bosses and it’s a pretty fun game. My main gripe is that I have to waste so much time trekking through the vast open world in order to get to the good parts. There is no incentive for me to explore things anymore so I just run to the critical path and it results in a lot of boring downtime riding torrent. I wish this game had a boss rush mode
They are, it wasnt that I regret saying they were better and still stand by it, its more so that it clashed a bit with the premise of the video, i should've focused more on a more micro level thing, or at least not something that borders on apples and oranges type comparison; Elden Ring just has a different priority BB than
The fact the only way to be invaded while playing solo in ER is if you specifically ask to be invaded by using an item is one of the worst things about the game for me, there’s no surprise to being invaded for a solo player whatsoever
@@BertoPlease like many people suggested over the months since the game release; treat the rune arcs as embers, if you use it you can get invaded, if you use taunters tongue you can get an extra invader
Your videos are great! Some people will never be pleased, don't let negative comments get to you. Keep up the good work, and I hope your channel continues to grow 👍
My main issues is the exploration and how linear the map is, I definitely prefer the way they did that in most other games, but it genuinely makes me hesitate replaying it at times. The bosses are great ofc but to me the souls series is more about the sum of its parts, and exploration is a HUGE aspect of that for me
Weird how people only think of griefers as invaders but never talk about what 90% of ER pvp is, 1 guy with two high level phantoms waiting to jump a single invader with a whole bunch of cheese
@@ChuckFinelyForeverif you chose to invade you are kinda of the asshole sense the point of invading is griefing people that just want to play with friends. If you really want to play pvp you have the collesiums where the games are fair 1v1
the open world is something thats legit better designed for freedom based exploration, as a whole, ERs level design and how it ties exploration to it on a design level makes its level design better than all the other games combined! not a single area in the older games, including their dlcs, come even close to a single legacy dungeon in level design complexity, and that's because theyre designed with jumping in mind, now add the open world and underground to the mix where theyre designed for your double jumping horse, and i find it laughable to say the older games have better level or exploration design. going back to the older games now just feels dated, guided and archaic. basically just a series of corridors and hallways with shortcuts in-between, theres no actual feeling of a "world" per say in the older games after ER.
After watching the first one I already knew you weren't bashing Elden Ring for the sake of bashing it but were instead just having a genuine discussion, great videos !
Im surprised what you said for Dark Souls 1 ( now i personally would've actually said *nothing* 😅 ) but i was a little confused with what you said, i guess it was pretty difficult thinking of something
Haha maybe that would've been the better option 😤 but another way to put it i guess is kind of like when you see a crystal lizard or scarab, you know what reward to expect so generally you know its worth, but of course its a bit harder with erdtree avatars. But its worth it for the physic tears imo
Don’t take the criticisms to heart man, you made it clear in your previous video that just because you want to talk about some things that the other games may have done better doesn’t mean you don’t like Elden Ring or that it’s a bad game. I didn’t see anything wrong with the way you made that video. At the end of the day there’s some people you just can’t satisfy and shouldn’t argue with. Keep making the videos you want to make
I’m just tired of this is stuff, the only reason it FEELS like ER is getting this reaction is because it’s new and popular. DS3, DS2 went through the BS, the difference is that the souls community solidified in the later years of DS3. It existed obviously in DS1 and DeS but it was where the PvP content started to shine, Mods became more prominent and newer lore heads other than Vaati. Newbie DS3 head and DeS/DaS old heads banning acting like it those nothing for the series is insanity incarnate. At the end of DS3 cycle, it felt like DS3 was the most uninspired, casual, R1 spamming, nostalgia grabbing, shallow abomination. Having the tread through that almost killed the series for me and now it’s happening again. Now DS3 gods gift to man, the bosses are now not over bloated, Bloodborne copying, dodge roll simulators but the peak of gaming history(Just ignore the ten other mediocre bosses it had) and it’s infinitely replay-able ( Despite being extremely criticized for its “lack luster linear and bland” level design). This keeps happening, it’s annoying. I told myself to not engage with the community because this would happen again but I didn’t listen, I thought it would be different but it wasn’t… It’s like community learned nothing from the ending of DS3. Endless repeating the same thing over and over and over….
Yeeeahhh you're not wrong. I think it's only natural given every game sells better than the last, and thus it'll keep getting more new people, a lot of them maybe clouded by their first. And the same thing with the other side, some will be nostalgic and/or more partial to the older games because the series has definitely taken different turns and what they liked about the first few may be diminishing by this point. In reality they all pretty much have been controversial since like Dark Souls 2, just more and more people get to join in on the conversation 😂 I certainly hope that my content doesn't come across that way, I like to think I judge every game by its own merits as a package. The only issue is that BECAUSE they reuse a lot of ideas, comparisons are just inevitable, thus videos like these can exist. But given that I made both ideas I would hope it's clear I'll always give them the benefit of the doubt. I do the videos for fun and hope to open a friendly discussion, but obviously some people do get very heated one way or the other.
@@BertoPlease hold no ill will towards you, honestly I agreed with most of what you said last video. It’s not like ER is my favorite From game ever made, that goes to BB and Sekiro but it can get annoying to hear it. Especially when I feel like ER has all of stuff more better than it’s counterparts. However I’m not blind of its faults either (Miyazaki why are the freaking Crystal/Glintstone weapons not spell catalysts as well😡). Definitely was surprised about that video blowing up as well. The only video coming close to that was the Leyndell video I think.😅 I hope I didn’t come off being aggressive towards you. For me. I was speaking about things more…generally that anything else.
@@simonealcazar816 ER has waaay more issues than that😂 The game is just too big and tedious with few memorable bosses/enemies/places, and no amount of weapons and builds can fix that. Can't even bring myself to replay it
Oh nah I didn't really read it as directed at me, I'm mostly saying it cause there HAVE been people who say I'm adding to that, even though generally I don't think I do? at least once you actually watch the content
@@RestfulCube95I find ER significantly way more interesting than DS3 by a long shot. The world of DS3 it is probably the least interesting visually, narratively and levels wise in the series. And that’s coming from a person that no fond of DS2. Whatever floats your boat buddy.
not even close to true but u sekiro fanboys need a little encouragement due to how irrelevant and barely talked about the game is... all jokes aside i love sekiro and it saddens me that its not really that talked about overall.
For me I recognize ER as flawed for certain, but it is my favorite game in the series; and that mostly comes down to my love of spells. I am almost always a caster in some form or degree, and ER has in my humble opinion, the overall best selection spells in the series in terms of usability, spectacle, and fun factor. There are some duds for sure, but the amount of spells be it sorceries or incantations that are both usable and fun exceed that of any previous title. As some others have mentioned the build variety in ER is also a hi point, and I've put so many hours in the game just doing different runs with different builds. Each one is always some combination of physical/magical stats where I limit myself to certain categories of weapons and/or spells, like a blood themed arc/fth build.
@@BertoPleasecritique is fine, but theres alot of unfounded misinformation and poorly thoughtout critique regarding elden ring especially, that and theres been a circle jerk on hating ER from alot of souls vets as of late, so ER fans got fed up and react badly to it.
why are we giving props to Elden Ring for something that DS3 did better like the coop thing with Bloodborne you said at the beginning that you wouldn't do stuff like that
The colisseum, an area fully dedicated to PvP without having to use any items is such a good addition for the PvP community, especially mixed with Elden Ring's HUGE build variety and smooth combat.
Yeah they still added plenty of new moves, it simply reuses *some* of the move Asylum does, like that buttslam you mentioned, some of the staff attacks, but yea
Stakes of Marika and how exploring to find hidden gear makes it actually worthwhile to take the risks. Game would have been unbearable if spawn points were only Grace.
My comments are already embedded in the video so I don't have to be terribly nuanced down here lol. I'd say the other big advantage Elden Ring has over its non-Sekiro predecessors is the complexity of boss battles. The set of attacks you'll be doing and the ways to dodge and counter boss attacks are so much more varied. I've heard that in DS3 all you really need to do is roll and light attack and that'll take down most bosses easily.
Yeah, in DS3, as great as most bosses are, rely too much in R1 and rollspams. The R2 attacks and Weapon Arts are so slow, weak and situational that the game disincentivices variety of attacks and rarely rewarded smart positioning like ER.
Finally. Elden ring is not my favorite souls games for sure. But i don't like how everyone turned against the game and started to bash it. Every souls game has tons of flaws. Elden ring is one of them as well.
I thought of one new feature Elden Ring did better than the rest of the games, might discuss it in it's own video 🏺 👀
Previous video:

you are mommy material
For me an underrated feature is actually the refilling of the Flasks by killing enemies, meaning if you play relatively well you can go forever without having to reset everything, this makes exploration way more fun.

Yeah, the Rykard fight is amazing. I remember being stubborn and not using the serpent hunter on my first playthrough, then eventually caving in and using it lol
Since the head was reachable without going into the lava, I did the serpent fight without the Serpent Hunter but then lava made it tedious for Rykard so I just used it there hahaha
let’s cheese the boss TOGETHAA
i didn't know about the weapon , i went straight ahead with my katana and killed him from the first time
To be fair you don’t HAVE to use the serpent hunter (it took me a good 3 playthroughs to figure out the serpent hunter so instead I just tanked the lava damage)
Rykard, Radahn and Fire Giant fights were so good and Elden Ring surely has the best gimmick bosses in all their games.
@@henrypaleveda7760 I agree, Sekiro and Elden Ring have the best bosses in the series by far.
Build variety might be my favorite part of ER. After finishing the game using multiple different builds I went and played DS3 and essentially got throught the entire game with a Claymore that you can get at the beginning of the game. Not because I loved the weapon that much, but because literally nothing else I had was nearly as strong.
Me in ds3 with the chaos broadsword and the same 3 pyromancies.
that's so true. in ds3 I can't help but to use the claymore (partly bc I love it) but in elden ring I can't help but to try new build after new build bc almost all of them are viable
I think Ds2 did it better
@@mattmab25 this is why I don’t buy it when people say ER has less replayability than the other souls games, if anything it’s superior in that aspect than all the other ones (except Sekiro for different reasons) because of the overwhelming amount of viable builds.
@idespiseamajorityofhumancr8504 the main reason I prefer to replay ER is the difference in mobility. like sure I love ds3 but feeling so clunky by comparison feels bad. but I agree there's only so many times I can use 1 of 5 builds
The reason the storm ruler is so much better in elden ring is because it evens the playing field instead of making you overpower the boss
In ds 3 it was either a 20 minute stamina battle or an execution,no in between
Not if you do Siegwards quest and let only him use the stormruler
The summon poolsign is awesome tbh, I've meet some nice people and helped them with the area and bosses, even show them the secret stuff and all, wholesome part of the community
I'd say objectively, no argument, Elden Ring fixed the worst souls problem by far, the boss run backs. It took them a while to see this huge error but they finally fixed it.
Hi, what is "the boss run backs"? I just played elden ring and sekiro
@@ElGitarico its like when you die fighting a boss and you have to run back to the boss room to fight it again
@@gmafnpls9727 ah ty. In sekiro its a little bit like that isn't itM
I don't know if I would call that an error but it's definitely a good quality's of life that's for sure

I wish I could agree with that and that's how it was, but there's plenty of things they did worse than previous games too
@@BertoPlease It doesn't matter, in the end it's a plus, weather it's a big improvement or a down grade, the series is progressing forward and that's what's important, not the small details.
Solo host invasions is a mechanic that should be on by default in every Souls game
@@JuanAntonioGarciaHeredia not just DS3, but DeS, DS1 and 2 too
And DS2 perfected it, it made it so the invader couldn't heal with Flasks or any other consumable, which made solo host invasions actually balanced (although squads not so much)
Solo host invasions must return, but make it balanced like DS2 so that the invader can't use healing items if he invaded a solo host; if the host then summons or a blue comes in, the invader can now be allowed to heal
Very simple concept
@BertoPlease for sure, I get your point. It could have been a better design.
Great video btw!
you should try the convergence mod, it replaces the gimmicky side of dark souls 3's bosses for something more regular. Yohrm gets an actual fight and so does Wolnir. The cursed great tree is even repalced with a character with part of sekiro's Owl's moveset. It's an especially good mod for its expanded magic gameplay systems
I did the same but I had onion bro, fight was over before I even realized it was a gimmick boss
To me in terms of gameplay, the build variety and the boss hitboxes (for the most part) are the things that Elden Ring improved upon from previous entries. Though Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne already had pretty good hitboxes already.
Rykard hitbox is horrible though
@sini0071 fair, I hate Rykard so I'll agree
Well I don't hate him. But he's meh.
@@ironmaiden93ofangmar Try hitting rykard with any melee weapon other than the serpent hunter, his hitbox is legitimately horrible
@@sini0071you're not supposed to fight rykard with another weapon bruh
Hitboxes?
I found that really annoying in Demon's Souls and DS3, that it is just there for the boss fight and after that it was basically useless.
true, but iirc DeS storm Ruler does good KB (bad durability tho), and you can still use it for soul farming
Ah yeah thats another good point, didnt think of adding that 👌
me personally, the boss consistency.
Thank you.
I think all the games have their merits, and there's always something to take away from all of them 👌
Agree with the ash of wars you can't change thing
I wish the full moon crossbow had like a charge shot or something instead of just kick
LMAO did bro run off the cliff 😂😂😂😂 3:56
I still think DS2 in B tier is too generous lol

Can't forget jumping! That's a big improvement!
Why is this comment section to quick to call people subhuman for the smallest things?
I found it odd that people were as critical of you in the last video. It was very apparent to me that you were a huge fan of the series that just wanted to make a video on a fun thought experiment you had.
Side note: this video popped in my feed which tells me UA-cam is promoting it a little. Fingers crossed it gets the same traction as the last video, as you very clearly give a passionate and professional viewpoint on the series which is always appreciated and very refreshing.
Yeah fun thought experiment is how I'd put it, I never claimed one game is actively better than the others in the last video haha
so far its my top video out of the last, including the last one, so if the momentum keeps going, it might do just as good or better! Fingers crossed indeed 🤞
Great video, I have beaten all the Soulsborne games, and I still think Elden Ring is the best one in the entire series.
It has the best combat especially when it's against the main bosses, best main bosses, legacy dungeons & the OST is comparable to the best of Bloodborne & Dark Souls 3, has the most varied content, enemies, weapons, magics, environments, can't wait for the DLC though.
awesome video, keep this style coming, i love topics that cover the series as a whole.
i actually think the level design of elden ring is the best in the serise and its not even close thats coming from someone who adore the level desgin of dark souls 1, i mean elden ring is the only game that didnt make me hate any specific area within it ,besides i loved the exploration aspect because it felt like you actually exploring something freely
agreed, not a single area in the older games, including their dlcs, come even close to a single legacy dungeon in level design complexity, and thats because theyre designed with jumping in mind, now add the open world and underground to the mix where theyre designed for your double jumping horse, and i find it laughable to say the older games have better level design.
I kind of agree, though
The layouts of things (Enemies, etc) oftentimes lack strategy since they're non-specific to the space (instead theyre reused, hence the messed up agro-ranges/targetting distances also); it feels like the enemies came afterward the level planning; sonetimes like they just threw them in, and their layouts lack strategy/planning.
I killed Rykard on my first play through with the lordsworn knights sword, I didn't know there was a gimmick wepon till the 3rd play through when I started researching the games more .. I also killed the elder beast with that sword on my first play through with the standard ash of war .. very effective
Lordsworn straight sword is really good starting weapon as well.
regarding the Invasions/PvP thing: I really liked Dark Souls 3 and it was my first time playing a Souls game, but the invaders were actually what kinda killed my enjoyment along the way.

Idk if I'd say best because some of the prior games were really good at it too, but yee those are good
@@BertoPleaseFor me its my favorite, seeing a lot of races with their own cults, enemies doing their business, so many lore interations between bosses...

I think a lot of people, including me, don't hate invasions as Concepts but are pissed of about he huge amount of rude people in the community. You kill me as an invader? Fair. But don't be so cocky about it and use the pointing down gesture
Edit: or throw a dung pie after killing me like wtf?? Who hurt you

Did teach me very quickly that with ER's shorter roll distance, if you roll more than once in a row in order to reposition, you would have been better off running.
agreed completely.
Is that legitimate criticism about my favorite game? Sounds like a skill issue to me ☝️🤓
@wowdogeful oh, you don't like how fast elden rings combat is?
BASED
also yeah I think due to the game being open world, they didn't try as hard as normal to have enemies block your path. To some degree I get it in those games, though they do go overboard at times, but yeah this game it woulda made it awful
yeah to the topic of forced coop invasions ill say that when i wanna 1v1 properly, i just go to colosseum, but when i invade normally, im invading someone's coop with the homies, the world doesnt revolve around me and im essentially playing a heel in that game as an invader, im an enemy just like everything else, just a much more complex one
plus i play a lot of coop with my brother and a friend, and we FREQUENTLY run into people with items from far into the game even at low levels, so the invaders usually have the advantage of a finished build when the coopers are usually just progressing
unless im really making my current setup for pvp instead of something gimmicky (much more fun imo) i ussually find that 2v1s against our invaders feel pretty fair cause we are a little weaker than them gear wise at the stage we are, 3v1s feel a little more sided to us since there are stunlocks sometimes and a buttload of pressure, but the patient invaders tend to do well still, whenever i see a 1v3 when i invade i tend to try and get other enemies into the fight
one problem is definitely the mfers that chill with a gank and wait for invaders though haha
good vid!
I kinda wish that melee spells for staffs were ashes of war for R2 instead. It always bothered me that R2 is useless for that weapon class.
3:56 smartest golden phantom
the biggest brain
One thing i think ER can do without is dozens of soul arrow variants. It stopped aging well when the series switched back to the MP system in DS3.
Don't let personal attacks get you down (obvs easier to say than do, but you don't deserve them). This was the first of your videos I've seen and it was interesting! Thank you :).
I appreciate it 😌
A jump button lol which was actually introduced in Sekiro ....
@@BertoPlease central yharnam lamp is usually pretty active. elden ring matchmaking too inconsistent tho
As I said, Storm King is one of my favorite bosses in the series, you don't need to sell it to me
I guess that explains the pile of them in 4-2 🧐
@BertoPlease Same, I never thought about that pile interesting
9:30 funny because I got teleported to Rykard's arena from some quest before and you are teleported way ahead of storm ruler so I never seen it until I had to rerun to it after death
wait wtf???? if its the volcano manor assassinations it shouldve spawned you at the grace, was it a bug? lmao
Same thing happaned to me too once
Jfc you almost had me in the first line lmao
@@BertoPlease It means that I ALMOS accomplish my goal.
Great video by the way, both of them.
tyty 😌
DS2 kinda laughs at ER "build variety" tbf
Should do how Elden ring did better than every other open world games
ooh spicy
13:08 the main issue with the pools is that you have to activate them.
I'd like to use them, but you'd need to go around an entire region, activating multiple summoning stakes, just to make sure players will even see your sign.
For me, the #1 thing is backstabs. It may not fit into the video's criteria, but it's very impactful, especially in PvP. I will take accidental backstab attempts over the whole meta revolving around it, any day. It also makes them require skill to pull off, and gives dodge AoWs a unique use, aside from i-frames.
Baaaaased, I do like how backstabs are skill based generally
They do say your First souls game is likely your Favorite. That is so true with ER!
Elden Ring also does exploration the best. I combed over every inch of the game and enjoyed every second of it.
Great video as always, keep up the amazing work, I’ll be looking forward to the Elden Ring callbacks in Dark Souls video
🥰
No you’re not wrong about the bloodborne weapons being better cause they are better.
They are, it wasnt that I regret saying they were better and still stand by it, its more so that it clashed a bit with the premise of the video, i should've focused more on a more micro level thing, or at least not something that borders on apples and oranges type comparison; Elden Ring just has a different priority BB than
3:55 goofy got played
The fact the only way to be invaded while playing solo in ER is if you specifically ask to be invaded by using an item is one of the worst things about the game for me, there’s no surprise to being invaded for a solo player whatsoever
I do wish there was an area or two that were automatically taunter-ed tongue, but besides that I don't mind it personally
@@BertoPlease like many people suggested over the months since the game release; treat the rune arcs as embers, if you use it you can get invaded, if you use taunters tongue you can get an extra invader
Yup I went two playthroughs feeling like something was off only to realize I hadn't been invaded once.
Leave it to commenters to bully someone into making a video they were already gonna make
LOL
Your videos are great! Some people will never be pleased, don't let negative comments get to you. Keep up the good work, and I hope your channel continues to grow 👍
why would you say ds3 is worse than the other souls games? interested to know as its one of my favourtites. great video btw.
My main issues is the exploration and how linear the map is, I definitely prefer the way they did that in most other games, but it genuinely makes me hesitate replaying it at times. The bosses are great ofc but to me the souls series is more about the sum of its parts, and exploration is a HUGE aspect of that for me
Weird how people only think of griefers as invaders but never talk about what 90% of ER pvp is, 1 guy with two high level phantoms waiting to jump a single invader with a whole bunch of cheese
baaased
It's not griefing, it's justice.
@@mojus2890 Justice? Because you need 2 overpowered teammates to take on one guy? Sounds boring
@@ChuckFinelyForeverif you chose to invade you are kinda of the asshole sense the point of invading is griefing people that just want to play with friends. If you really want to play pvp you have the collesiums where the games are fair 1v1
@@ChuckFinelyForever If ur invading people, don't expect them to give a shit about fair play. Go colliseum if you want pvp.
the open world is something thats legit better designed for freedom based exploration, as a whole, ERs level design and how it ties exploration to it on a design level makes its level design better than all the other games combined!
not a single area in the older games, including their dlcs, come even close to a single legacy dungeon in level design complexity, and that's because theyre designed with jumping in mind, now add the open world and underground to the mix where theyre designed for your double jumping horse, and i find it laughable to say the older games have better level or exploration design.
going back to the older games now just feels dated, guided and archaic. basically just a series of corridors and hallways with shortcuts in-between, theres no actual feeling of a "world" per say in the older games after ER.
After watching the first one I already knew you weren't bashing Elden Ring for the sake of bashing it but were instead just having a genuine discussion, great videos !
glad some people understood that haha
If Elden Ring had Bloodborne coats then it really would be perfect.
@@BertoPlease that makes sense 😄
there are PLENTY of things ER does better than ds1 though.
@@flamingmanure name some
@flamingmanure animations, scope. I think it's mostly technical improvements
Elden ring has all the DNA from all dark souls, sekiro, demon souls and bloodborne…
Keep making the videos you want to make
I would say that Elden Ring has better exploration then DS1 which is an aspect that no other game in the series has
I’m just tired of this is stuff, the only reason it FEELS like ER is getting this reaction is because it’s new and popular.
In reality they all pretty much have been controversial since like Dark Souls 2, just more and more people get to join in on the conversation 😂
I certainly hope that my content doesn't come across that way, I like to think I judge every game by its own merits as a package.
I noticed that Sekiro isn't in this video. That's because Sekiro is FromSoft's best game and nothing can ever surpass it 👍🏻

not even close to true but u sekiro fanboys need a little encouragement due to how irrelevant and barely talked about the game is...
all jokes aside i love sekiro and it saddens me that its not really that talked about overall.
Based on
For me I recognize ER as flawed for certain, but it is my favorite game in the series; and that mostly comes down to my love of spells.
Much more respect for acknowledging the flaws and still loving it than blindly loving it and getting angry when someone else tries to critique it 👌
@@BertoPleasecritique is fine, but theres alot of unfounded misinformation and poorly thoughtout critique regarding elden ring especially, that and theres been a circle jerk on hating ER from alot of souls vets as of late, so ER fans got fed up and react badly to it.
why are we giving props to Elden Ring for something that DS3 did better like the coop thing with Bloodborne you said at the beginning that you wouldn't do stuff like that
Because DS3 is not strictly coop based pvp? By this logic, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, and Dark Souls 2 already did it better
The colisseum, an area fully dedicated to PvP without having to use any items is such a good addition for the PvP community, especially mixed with Elden Ring's HUGE build variety and smooth combat.
7:25 see i fight these trees and I see the skeleton is of the Asylum Demon, I feel like besides the butt slam he mostly does his newer moves.
Twas a great video berto. Nice food for thought.
Thank you, my favorite rodent 🙏
Elden Ring did quite literally EVERYTHING better than every other Souls game
Yeah I love Elden Ring but that's just straight cap
i agree imo elden ring is their magnus opum. almost everything great about the previous games is present in this one.
You missed the taunters tongue in ER which, when activated, invites invaders to your world whether you’re solo, duo, or trio
I didn't miss it, it's just a non-factor because only like 5% of invasions or less are taunter tongue-ed
@@BertoPlease apologies
The whole supreme hunter ordeal is just like yorms boss fight but a tad more advanced I don’t mind it.
Finally. Elden ring is not my favorite souls games for sure. But i don't like how everyone turned against the game and started to bash it. Every souls game has tons of flaws. Elden ring is one of them as well.
I hope all of you find the way into your innerworld and can achieve wholeness 💜
