You MUST TRY THIS!! Stop wasting time when it comes to PRACTICE!
This was a great practice session I HAD to share with yall! Hill Hill has remained a STAPLE in my friend groups practice, and tinkering it to "just" this way has made it the most effective tool to practice in a group! Try this out and get better at running racks, position play, PATTERN PLAY, stroke training, etc.

    Funny how simple of a concept this is, and yet vast majority of pool players never think about advantages of aiming to a specific part of the pocket. There are times you see a pro barely make a ball, and most people don’t realize it was intentional bc they were trying to get the max positional value out of the shot. So it looks like they barely made the shot when in fact they hit it exactly where they aimed it.

    Do the "solutions" for these runouts exist anywhere? If not this would be great content for your channel Drew. As a lower skill level player, I find even the yellow cards challenging. I can usually figure out something that works, but I wonder if it's really the best plan.

    If I’m understanding what you mean by “drag shot” correctly, yes it is a great shot to have in your “bag of tricks”. Highly recommend practicing that. If you can get it down it’s effective at almost any length of shot.

    You have great videos. I like learning from other developing players because we have common issues. I get stroke instruction from Mark Wilson twice a year, but pattern play instruction/training I have to do on my own. I’ve been playing for 3 1/2 years. I’m a developing player-APA 7/9. Pattern play videos are extremely helpful. The other mid - level league players don’t typically advance to a high-level, so it can be the blind leading the blind lol. You seem very knowledgeable, but still learning just like me. I will watch all your videos Drew! Thanks for your efforts. Cliffy J

    I used an 11.8 OB low-deflection shaft on my Viking cue. That was my first "expensive" cue. I switched to a Predator cue with a 314 shaft and that's my sweet spot. About 2 years ago I switched to a Revo shaft 12.4. I don't think I'll ever go back to a 11.x diameter ... there's no need for that.

    An opponent with a slow pace can be found at any skill level. Having that to affect your game is something to work on (I've definitely been there) Just relax, stay focused and play your game. The way I try to see it is that the longer he takes, he's putting more pressure into all of his shots. Thanks for the content, Drew. Hopefully you come to Miami sometime. Completely agree with a ball on the rail by the side pocket. It’s the worst spot your ball can be in considering no clusters. I tell my teammates it’s worth using your ball in hand on to go right after it. Pro tip, when taking BIH for a ball in that position, look for a ball to shape that goes into the opposite side pocket. Then roll into that position. It helps bc you can keep the cueball close to the rail.

    • @drewvonporte
      @drewvonporte 19 днів тому

      Lol We think alike… the side pocket -> to get to the long rail for trouble balls- is one of go-to patterns that I’m always preaching about!!! You’ll see it in other vids for sure!

    The last shot of the game at 1:04:50 I completely agree with you on cutting the 8 in the side. Corner or bank were too tough for a struggling 5. However, you gave him too much to do with the 3-rail, 2-way position which was also gonna server as a defensive if he missed. I bet he went with it bc he originally wanted to play a defensive and figured he would listen to you bc he could also win the game on your shot. However, as the highest SL player on my team (thus the one who coaches during timeouts). I have come to find that you can’t give a lower SL a shot that is meant for a higher SL, ever. But especially in high stress or difficult moments (which are always in timeout situations bc if the shot was easy they wouldn’t be asking you what to do lol) When there is multiple ways to play the same shot and one is not glaringly obvious over another, Never talk a player off their shot. Just help them execute their shot to the best of their ability. 1. It’s their shot and they can’t be mad at you when it goes wrong lol. But 2. They simply can’t execute a high SL shot in the first place. That’s why they are a low SL. (And also they gonna be pissed when they take your advice and scratch the 8 on the rubber 😂) Having said all of this, I love the way you shoot Drew. We all just struggling amateurs. Great channel

    Love the conversation about the Z-shaft. I have a buddy that uses it. He thinks he is better than he is. I don’t think he realizes how small the tip is compared to most cues. He loves to shoot “homerun” shots and his last match he miscued like 4-5 times. I am thinking now it’s a tip thing and he doesn’t realize he doesn’t need as much extreme English bc of the tip he uses. I’ll definitely have a conversation with him about it now. Thanks

    I picked up a used Predator 8K-1 years back. Didn’t realize how good the cue was at the time. The leather grip is so much better than Irish linen. I love how interchangeable the Predator brand is. I upgraded to a Revo shaft after winning a fantasy league, the unilock joint lets the new shaft go right on the old butt. Then got the butt extension and use it when needed. Much better than having to grab a bridge. I was a good shot before i got into the Predator brand. It definitely improved my game by a SL just having a top end cue.

    • @drewvonporte
      @drewvonporte 19 днів тому

    Not sure if he's still on your team, but my advise to Alex is to work on his stance. It's very inconsistent and that often affects the way he hits the balls. Making those adjustments in the fundamentals are key for low level players.

    Was no one else from your team watching the game? obviously Alex doesn't know what a double hit is either. It should have been called out before the next shot even happened. Games between low level players need to be watched because lots of mistakes like that happen.

    This is a great idea. I've tried to find this game for sale on line. No one has it in stock with no date of when it will be available. Where can I get this game.

    Three things. 1. in the first rack, he would have probably beaten you if, when the 8 was tied up with his balls, he cleared the balls in the middle of the table while playing position to safe the 4. 2. You break problem, what you need to do is forget your break mechanics because you're spreading the balls, just visualize balls going in pockets before you break and they will start dropping. 3. F the Steelers lol.

      @@drewvonporte lol I'm just messing with ya. I'm a former Cardinals fan and we held a grudge over the SB, but now that all the players in that game have retired, I think the animosity is gone.
