Jeffrey Henderson | Green Beast (Speed Freak) | Custom E-Bike | 15kW (80mph) | Part 1 (Introduction)
Hi Everyone,
Welcome back to my UA-cam channel and to the start of another new project. The main area of this project/build will be designing and building a state-of-the-art lithium battery for the 29” Boardman 8.8Mtr mountain bike. The battery packs you buy mostly contain cheap cells and poor design quality. Not only this, but I also wanted to make the most of the little capacity, to place the cells to form the battery banks as demonstrated in the introductory clips. Basically, to make the most out of the little space I have available.
I selected this 29” bike because of its appealing looks, but mainly its critical components. I.e., Hydraulic brakes for impressive stopping power, 150mm travel adjustable air suspension. Also, it will handle much better at higher speeds. I previously started this video at a location near a river, and annoyingly a storm appeared and blew the helmet/box into the river and the bike on its side. See video (Jeffrey Henderson | Green Beast (Speed Freak) | Custom E-Bike | Part 1 (Day From Hell)) on my channel for this disaster.
ua-cam.com/video/R-nLO0eOMaQ/v-deo.html
The motor kit I originally purchased months ago for this bike, has a power rating of 3000w with peaks of over 5000w with the original 80A controller with a suitable battery pack. I have now decided to source a Sabvoton 200A or a Fardriver controller with a QS273 Motor. My mind was changed here overnight whilst starting this project video, mainly because the battery pack I have designed and configured will be able to provide a significant amount of continuous current @ 250A, owed to the 50s cells having a huge discharge (standard) rate of 25A per cell. I have now also been thinking to increase the 200 cells to 208 to achieve a 96v (26s) 40Ah (8p) battery to increase the top end speed of the e-Bike even further. I haven't got the room to make a 96v (26s) 50Ah (10p) battery pack anyway, without ruining the look of the bike.
I will see what I decide over the next couple of weeks. Building a 96V battery with the cells I already have reduces the battery capacity by 10Ah, and I also will need a new charger, another BMS, hub motor and controller. If I stick at 72v (20s) 50ah (10p) it will be the cheaper option here as I’ve all the compatible items purchased.
The next video (part 2) will focus on adding all the accessories displayed in the video clips excluding the batteries and BMS for now. Part 3 will then start with the custom battery pack following with part 4 and part 5. After this I will be designing a (slick) mirror polished stainless steel case for the pack or for the right and left battery banks. So, I have a lot to do on this project in the upcoming videos/parts, but it all will be very interesting as time goes on.
I hope you enjoyed this video, please hit the thumbs up if you did. If you want to see this project evolve, please subscribe, and hit the post notifications bell to see the latest from my channel.
Peace out!! Much love! Jeffrey 😊

      Nobody is claiming the motor kit seen in this intro is 15kw. I stated its spec, and it certainly wasn't 15kw that you suggested. 'Him' knows exactly what a 15kw motor should look like. I think you skipped the whole ending?

      'Him' lol, are you refering to the guy who put the time and effort into the video you replied to, who probably seen your comment first. Ask him, query him! Don't knock him to others! You clearly didn't read the description or listen to when he clearly states, he has now decided to move away from the 3kw orignal idea. Yours facts on your bike are nothing to do with his E-Bike project! I look forward to this brute of a battery pack, what ever motor he uses! Great explanation! I really hope you show this triangle design in detail for others.

      @none1705 Hi there, Sorry you had to go through this ordeal with this dreadful company, as did myself. I purchased the 12000 monteer after the torture with these lights, risking it, because of the high brightness I required. I'm dreading the day something happens to all the lights I have. I have never used it yet or the 8000 monteer that was sort of working (time I recorded this) because I am in the process of building an E-Bike. I will forward this video to them with all these comments again. A video I put together on these faults below. ua-cam.com/video/rEHhkyNZ_Jo/v-deo.htmlsi=dWVxTP_FSZ0lNrZL They're very badly behaved for a company that sells to the public. They ignored me multiple times after claiming they would send me remotes, which wouldn't have solved the problem. The light units are at fault, as I always expected. I hope you get something sorted. I suspect the 12000 will fail like the 8000 out of the box. Shocking considering these lights are meant to be the leading brand as spoken of by me in my latest video. I didn't mention all these troubles. Regards, Jeffrey

    That's MagicNoShine. Sadly, they can't do anything properly. The problem has nothing to do with AliExpress. I bought all of my light from retailers in Europe. The problem is the bike light company itself. I've had other lights, namely the infamous MJ-908, countless of those. And every single one broke within months. They got replaced, broke. Over and over again. They just stopped working in the middle of rides out of nothing although the battery was fully charged. You may imagine how dangerous this is. I almost got killed because of that. Never rely on a MagicNoShine itself, always make sure you're using a second light at the same time. Just to be safe you never end up in complete darkness. I have the same issue with the M-Remote. I can turn on the light, but that's it. Then it stops working. Your video makes me assume that not the remote is the problem, but the light itself. Also, be aware that the cables may be of minor quality and if you use the lamp often, it may break. The problem is that you can not exchange the cable that goes into the light. So if that cable breaks, your light is doomed. MagicNoShine is a dangerous company. Their lights are so badly built, you never can be sure they're working. I wanted to give them another chance with the Monteer 8000S V2.0 but as it appears, their Quality Control is still useless.

    • @JeffreyMaster
      @JeffreyMaster 9 місяців тому

      Hi, the faults are intermittentnt and believe it or not, the fault is in both lights. The only difference is one remote stops communicating after turned of for a period. The remote will work if you hit the momentary button on the light when it's on, but that's kind of stupid. It then stops working again after a few seconds sadly. Yes dangerous considering it's for a 3kw 72v 50ah ebike. The second light has delays using the remote when the light is cold, until it is used for a few minutes.

      Thanks for replying. Yes, I noticed that the behaviour varies. That's why I deleted my other comment. It's just that I got my remote only yesterday. And only a few hour laters one of the latches was broken due to the useless Velcro-mounting. 🙄It appears that it's really hard to do it right, even if you're in business for a while already. That's supposed to be sarcastic. 😉Be safe when riding your "monster".@@JeffreyMaster

    • @JeffreyMaster
      @JeffreyMaster Рік тому

      Hi there, It's no problem, if you need any further advice, I'm happy to help. There is another way you can try to resolve the clutch before stripping your gearbox if it's the same issue. Lift the clutch arm/lever of the hexagon spline and turn it further away from the bracket holding the cable. You will need to adjust (remove tension here to allow for the major adjustment) the bracket that holds this cable to make this work. You can reveal the hexagon spine by removing the plate that holds the lever arm tight to the gearbox. As far as am aware, it was a M6 bolt. It will feel much tighter to squeeze the drive hand lever, but it will put more pressure on the clutch basket, getting these friction brass parts of the clutch to engage properly. Don't worry about too much tension on the cable, a spring is on the cable to compensate for this. To make this clear, you want to turn the lever arm one notch clockwise then re-install the lever hold plate. I hope this helps you and others. Kind regards, Jeffrey

    Dude you're amazing, thanks for making this. There are only a couple videos that show the disassembly/reassembly of this transmission and you're the only guy with the stones to do it while sitting on the ground. However, I'm confused now because I wanted to replace the grease but you replaced it with gear oil. Is this a recommended replacement for the grease? It makes sense to use gear oil but I'm concerned it might leak out easier than grease. Also if you can find caster pin covers and your cable is still good, you can get the caster locks working again. I had a bent pin but I was able to bend it straight and clean it up. I don't know where these pin covers are going but half the JS63Cs are missing the covers.

    • @JeffreyMaster
      @JeffreyMaster Рік тому

      Hi Sir, Thank you for your comment. I used gear oil because it makes more sense. A automotive high speed gearbox uses oil. Therefore I believe a heavy gear oil is suffienct for this slow speed/low load gearbox. I've had no leaks yet, just do what I done. I bought a complete swivel castor housing of eBay are and just used the cover of it. I now have cable ties around both with the screw to stop them vanishing again. Please see my Facebook page to see modifications with the recent electric start 😀. Thank you for subscribing. I believe the gear oil will be much better around the clutch. Thank you, Jeffrey

    Hold up, you said j32 in your dc5? I’ve been looking everywhere for information on this swap. I’ve wanted to do it to mine for a bit now. I’m just starting the video, so I’ll ask questions after I finish it. Alright, so have you gotten the engine mounted? I’m planning on using inline pro’s j2k kit so I can use my stock k20a2 6 speed transmission. That takes care of two of the mounts, so I’d just need to make a custom engine side mount. My main question is: do you think this engine will fit under the stock hood?

    • @JeffreyMaster
      @JeffreyMaster Рік тому

      Hi there, I designed and built my own conversion plate, starter and stainless steel mounts a long time ago. This was done long before 2013 and before that conversion kit was available. My Jseries is mounted to the a K series spoon modified transmission. The gearbox main shaft, is sitting at spec inside the crank, unlike the thick spacer used by inline pro, where the shaft does not rest on crank bushing. All my mounts are custom stainless mounts brackets, custom starter with modified subframe. The engine sits in my Dc5 with my custom manifold and good ground clearance to match K20 engine. With my manifold, I have normal ground clearance with a little carbon reinforcement removed from under the hood.

      @Superb_Owl80 Рік тому

      @@JeffreyMaster that’s awesome news! I don’t have the skills to make my own adapter plate. But its good to know that you’ve gone the same route of adapting the k series transmission to the j series block. I’m not entirely sold on doing the j swap yet, I’m really a fan of the k series. I was just thinking it would be unique.

    Thanks Jeff! You got another subscriber! Great video for those of us serious about building spot welders! Where did you source the control circuit boards? Were they the sort commonly used for microwave transformer based welders?

    • @JeffreyMaster
      @JeffreyMaster Рік тому

      Hi there, Thank you sir 🙂. The clamp hold time and pulse time is controlled by a continuous clock cycle timer. The transformer starts only after an off-delay timer is engaged to ensure the clamp is contacted reducing any arcing at electrodes. These timers are all sourced on eBay. However, a DIY microcontroller would also have been benifical here. I just choose this way as both devices can be easily preset with the push buttons. I hope this helps. P.s I never have seen the commonly used boards on microwave-based machines. Thank you again, Jeffrey

      Hi Ashlee, I wanted to experiment with different resins/colours. Most of the gloves are highly detailed prototypes giving tight tolerances and smooth surfaces, for the functional parts. However, some aren't the most durable materials. In the end up I will select the best suited resins (properties and then colours second), but these pieces will always be there to promote and to keep me busy :-).
