Welcome to Colin’s Corner!
My main purpose in creating this channel is to meet new people and to enhance my reading journey.
Finding the booktube community a couple of years ago was the best thing that has ever happened to me as a reader. It has enriched my reading life in innumerable ways. After being involved in so many wonderful communities across UA-cam, I wanted to try my hand at creating my own.
I primarily read adult fantasy and horror, but am open to trying lots of new things. I am excited to meet new people and be a part of this community!

HOUSE OF CHAINS - MALAZAN BOOK 4 || SPOILER REVIEW
Переглядів 1994 місяці тому
Another tremendous installment in the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. Although I took a while to read this one and had a bit of a broken reading experience, in the end I grew a deep appreciation for this book and the complexity of the characters within it. Let me know in the comments how you felt about this installment! Connect with Me: Instagram: colinscorneryt X: ...

As a reader. Untrue winter sucks ass
Being outside definitely sucks lol. I agree with that.
@ColinsCornerYT and also when you read and window is open and your fingers start to get cold and then you have to get up and close the window but then the air starts to get stale and it's a never ending cycle
... wore white on the day he was to kill a king."
Is there a music remix I am unaware of?mmm
On TikTok there was a sound made using the first line of Way of a Kings lol.
Wind and truth dropped just in time
It did indeed!
Lol exactly!! Winter is my favorite season. I also realized this morning that I accidentally got like 75% books as gifts for my whole family 😅
Those are the best kinds of gifts, because they keep on giving forever!
aww o love this
Oh! I iust bought this book for the flight home during the holidays. Didnt get far, but kind of random to see it in a short just days later 😂
It must be some kind of good sign!
Oh yes
Journey before destination
Besides the setting that is either winter or autumn like conditions what else is wintery about these book
I’m not sure and I said I’m giving no context it’s just I feel like they’re better read in the winter 🤷♂️
My list is as follows: The bell jar - Sylvia Plath I who have never known men - Jacqueline Harpman The millennium trilogy - Stieg Larsson
I just read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo about 2 months ago and LOVED it. Also, I picked up a used copy of The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath a few months ago from an estate sale!
This is amazing reasoning
I thought so too 🤷♂️
That’s so weird. I just got the way of kings the other week
This is good timing then!
lololol
We like to have fun in Colin’s Corner 😂
😂😂
They don’t even see that you’re picking up a book because they don’t know what happens when you start reading the pages.
If you know you know!
Yes
Yes indeed!
I read The Shining a few Winters ago, and when I’m reading in my room now, I feel like I’m still reading it
It’s such a great book. It’s my favorite King as of right now!
All the winter vibes ❄️❄️
Love me some winter reading!!
🤗🤗💜
Fener was brought down by Heboric in DHG I pretty sure
I cannot confirm or deny this because I cannot remember, although you might be right 😅
@@ColinsCornerYT okay I had to go and read again but yeah, after Heboric found the Jade statue he basically plucked Fener from his realm and essentially doomed him to death
@ ahhhh that’s right I forgot exactly what happened but that’s it!
Kruppe would love to express his gratitude to the wonderful Carlos for confirming my superiority to the dreaded Iskaral Pust! This filled me with such joy! We should collectively celebrate with cake!
Hahaha this comment is everything.
@colin ... what the eff are you talking about karsa not having valif reasons.... have you heard about ghengis khan, or beowulf or achillis or a million more examples from history...
Yes I have, but I don’t believe the examples you posed validate Karsa’s actions early on in the novel necessarily. My overall takeaway was that I appreciated Erikson asking the reader question “right” or “wrong” or “good” or “bad” by witnessing a culture vastly different from their own
Sanderson !!
You bet! I’m almost done with the first Mistborn book!
This is great brother!!
Thanks my man!!
Very much enjoyed your discussion on this book. Karsa is such a divisive character but you can't help but admire him. Looking forward to the next. Witness.
Thank you for watching! This was a really fun discussion.
I finished the main serie a month ago and Karsa is the best ... I was always thinking where's Karsa, when is Karsa back , does he show up in this book ... I think overall top 5 characters of Malazan.
Wow, top 5 in this series with so many is really high praise!!!
Great chat, my friends. I hope y'all enjoy the next one.
Thank you, Dom! Thanks for staying up with us!
Try doing tha with Apple Pay 😂. Coins forevah
Yooooo haha
Whoa! It actually worked! I'm gonna try it from my roof to the ground!!
How do you think I got down 🤫🧐
@ColinsCornerYT 😆😆
This is my least favorite Elderlings book. With the exception of two or three chapters which reminded me of a 1954 Japanese Godzilla film. I finally realized that it is the fool, his relationship he is just toxic, remove him and you get all my favorite scenes. I came to that epiphany in the Blackman’s crevice home.
The Fool does certainly pose some frustrating interactions in this book and across the series at different times as well, you’re definitely right about that. I’m sorry this ended up being your least favorite read in the series!
@@ColinsCornerYT I really began to love Fitz in Tawny Man! Fool’s Errand is my second fave after Ship of Magic! It is just this last book that was disappointing.
Hi. Came by way of Novel Insights who tagged me as well as your good self. Subbed, and I look forward to getting to know your content. Best, Mark.
Thanks for stopping by, Mark! Sorry I just saw this now somehow.
Dostoevsky is actually a big influence on my writing! I was looking for your email address to contact you about my recently published novel, but after answering the captcha UA-cam won't show your email :/ how can I reach you?
Best place would be on twitter! My twitter is ColinsCornerYT. Sorry I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus recently. I normally answer comments right away!
The Fantastical still occurs in his other novels, though mostly much more toned down so when they do occur they're more special. A lot of Kay's magic/supernatural relies on taking a superstition of the time and making it real to challenge the modern reader's snobbery at the beliefs of the past. Lions of Al-Rassan or Under Heaven would be my recommendations of where to go next
That’s interesting. Thanks so much for watching and for the recommendations my friend!
Oh man, this chat had me reliving the incredible journey of this final series. You guys made me think of the final book and I got emotional, jeez! You guys will love Assassin's Fate!
Sorry I somehow missed this comment until right now!
❤❤❤
That you both enjoyed Fool's Quest and are going into Assassin's Fate soon, makes me SO DAMNED HAPPY guys! You've both been incredibly generous with sharing your journey with us, and I appreciate it a LOT. 😘
Thank you so much for following us along on our amazing journey so far! I can’t wait to see how it comes to a close!
What a great haul Colin! Cloud Atlas was a DNF for men
Wow! A DNF. Hopefully I enjoy it when I get to it. Sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you!
@@ColinsCornerYT yeah I know right, but I think I’m the exception. A lot of people love it. I loved the movie, so I think the writing just wasn’t for me.
Congrats on getting so close to having your Associates, Colin! I need to get to Something Wicked this way Comes.
Thanks so much, Chas! Have you read any Bradbury?
@@ColinsCornerYT only Fahrenheit 451 so far.
Crime and Punishment gave me so much anxiety and it was great. Loved that book. And Hobb is your favorite because she is the best! Congrats on almost finishing, you are in for a real treat with the last book and a half to go.
Haha Hobb is the best! And I feel you on the anxiety. It is real and palpable. What a masterwork this book has been.
I agree with everything you said about Crime and Punishment! I was so intimidated by it, but then found it much more readable and compelling than I expected! Raskolnikov is such a fascinating character to follow. Also, my Comedy with Colin guess is... prime mates?!
I agree he is so incredibly fascinating. I can’t wait to read the rest of this, I literally have no clue where it’s going to go the for the last 2-3 parts. Also, bingo!! Great guess! I love when people actually guess the Comedy with Colin. Thanks for watching and interacting with my channel, Ashley!
Yeah, i dropped the series after this one. The way every scene seems to be its own short story makes the story as a whole come across as rather repetitive. Just give the crippled god his heart back or whatever the "compassionate" thing is to do, and stop waisting my time.
Haha I totally get what you’re saying. Once learning through interviews that Erikson was trained as a short story writer I was able to get down with this style of writing more I think. But it’s still a long haul to the finish from here and if you’re not interested best move on to something you will enjoy reading!
I loved tigana when i read it as my first GGK read. Then i read lions, arbonne, and the sarantine mosaic and liked them all more, with the sarantine mosaic possibly breaking into my top ten all time reads.
You’re not the first person to say something like this, and if that’s the case I think I am going to end up being a huge GGK fan. Which I am greatly excited about!
Cold is such a good description of Tavore
I can’t wait to get to know her character better. I really enjoyed reading about her in this book.
