It’s wise to be present with your reads rather than try to rush through them to fit some artificial deadline. Whenever you get to The Prophet of Edan, I will be most grateful, Colin. Thank you for including it in your plans!
I’ve found that definitely to be true. Realizing most of the stress is because of self-imposed artificial deadlines as you stated is important. Because ultimately, I’m reading to enjoy stories and enrich my life. So who cares how long it takes! Thanks for watching, Philip. Can’t wait for Sunday!
I have definitely gone too heavy on my January TBR. I’m fighting a reading slump and have like ten books I was hoping to get to. 😂 I definitely get putting too much pressure on yourself to finish books quickly! Ultimately, reading is for pleasure. If you aren’t having fun with it, it’s not worth it!
Haha it’s so easy to make an ambitious TBR. Then all it takes is one thing to pop up or like 3 days in a row where you’re just exhausted and it throws my whole plan off. But you’re right, and ultimately the pressure doesn’t affect me often, and is definitely self-imposed. But I’ve chosen to be much more forgiving of myself these last few months.
Buddy reading with my siblings is one of my favorite things! We read all of the Cradle series and the First Law trilogy last year together and it was awesome. Also, The Dark Half is one of my favorite King books! Super underrated!
Danggggg First Law with the family!? That sounds amazing! I actually just started listening to book 2 of Cradle earlier today! Reading together is a great way to stay in contact and build new memories.
I hope you continue to enjoy A Feast for Crows and Memories of Ice, Colin! I'll be starting The Spear Cuts Through Water today! The six-fold structure sounds tricky, but it's been super successful for everyone I've heard read it. Enjoy!
Oooh yes! I hope you enjoy TSCTW. I have finished the first section so far and am loving it. A bit tricky to get used to the structure for me, however instantly got hooked by Jiminez’s writing style. It’s so beautiful. Happy reading!
Man I don’t know how you juggle multiple books and series at the same time… I can literally only read 1 thing at a time lol. I’m starting 2024 off easy with a stand-alone but eventually have plans to finish reading the inheritance cycle.
Sometimes my brain lets me do it, but sometimes I just need to hunker down in one world. I enjoy having options though, and normally I just have 1 physical book and 1 audio book going at a time. The Inheritance Cycle is one I never got to in my young adulthood. I owned Eragon, but never actually read it. Thanks for watching!
Heck yes for just taking it easy on yourself and savouring your reads instead of rushing through them for content, that truly serves no one! I am glad that you are having such a good time with the stuff you have going on right now. I hope your Malazan journey continues going strong, and I have no doubts that the final stretches in the RotE adventure will be amazing for you. Also, I hope I can join for Spear but I really don't know if I have time and I don't want to potentially ruin that reading experience. Have a great buddy read though!! Happy reading 🥰
This last leg of ROTE is going to be so awesome I already know. Can’t believe I only have (only 😂) 5 books left! Even if you can’t, you can still chat with us in the discord if/when you get to it! We will be there! Thank you for watching, Esmay and happy reading to you as well!
@@ColinsCornerYT Hahaha, 5 books is just a few in the grand scheme of things 🤣 And appreciate it! I am excited to chat with you all whenever I may get around to it, it soundsl ike a book that will be great for discussion 🥰
Awesome stuff Colin! I wish I could join you guys for Spear Cuts, but I just can’t squeeze it in. Definitely take your time to be present with Edan. It’s a great series!
I enjoyed The Dark Half. I read it a few years ago, and was nice to get back into some 'old school and gritty ' King. Not his bestest work, but I had a great time. No shortage of weird, especially toward the end. Speaking of gritty and weird, Memories of Ice left me that impression after finishing 😄 I enjoyed it though. Spear Cuts thru 🌊-- Im in the read along, but looks like Dan is spreading out the chapters over the weeks, so I put the book down half way into the 2nd chapter. Ill continue next week. Reading King's latest, Holly in the meantime. Have a great weekend!
I am also enjoying The Dark Half so far. I don’t see it making any kind of “favorite” list for me personally but we will have to see how it ends! Man, Memories of Ice is a trip! And a wild and extremely enjoyable one at that. Are you enjoying Holly? I worry that parts of that book I’ve heard about may not work well for me, but I’m hoping I’m wrong. Thanks for watching as always, my friend!
A Song of Ice and Fire is my favorite series. I think I am due for a reread soon. Glad you are enjoying your first read through it. I have been hearing such great things about The Spear Cuts Through Water. I look forward to hearing what you think of it.
I can absolutely see why ASOIAF would be your favorite series. Martin is an absolute master of his craft, no doubt. Really enjoying The Spear Cuts Through Water so far just over 100 pages in. It’s a very unique experience, and Jiminez has a wonderful writing and storytelling style. Thanks so much for watching and interacting, Mindy!
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who puts pressure on myself the read faster or finish a book. In fact, I sometimes even stress about what book I am going to read next before I even finish the book I am reading 😂. I’m currently reading Jade War by Fonda Lee, and I’m not sure what to read next.
I’m not always like that, but at times find myself falling into that phase of pressuring myself. But I’ve calmed down recently and am in a better place with that. How are you enjoying The Greenbone Saga so far? I thought it was a lot of fun and Jade War was one of my top reads last year! Do you plan on taking a break before you finish out the series? Thanks for watching, Eric!
I just finisched The Way of Edan in December and loooved it! Hope to be able to reed book 2 in february. Man I need to read The Spear Cuts Trough The Water, it sound so weird! And I an totally understad the need to take a more slow approach to reading/reviewing book, I'm doing it myself. Right now I'm reading an eArc for The Wolf of Wolfsbane by Jon Cronshaw and Sealed Empire by Norbert Zsivicz. Loving them both!
So glad you enjoyed The Way of Edan! So far only 50 pages in The Spear is so weird and awesome. Hoping this trend continues! And I’m also glad you’re slowing down the pace as well, it has been working much better for me in terms of enjoying my reads and getting more out of them. Idk anything about those books but the titles make them sound awesome! Hope you enjoy them, Abel!
Great video and absolutely agree with going at your own pace and giving updates. Memories of Ice is definitely a big hit and I’m stoked to see how it wraps up! I’ll be getting to Spear Cuts soon after 🤘🏽
@@ColinsCornerYT are they long chapters? I might pick it up from the library tomorrow and get to a few chapters here and there to take part in the discussion
@bardsandbooks the book seems to be written in parts rather than chapters. The first part is about 90 pages I think? But I’ve found that there are easy jumping off points where you can just go back and read a few paragraphs then catch back up.
Memories of Ice is fantastic, and imo it's not even in my Top 5 Favourite books in the series. Its actually my 7th. In December I read: *Classic* The Tell Tale Heart / Edgar Allen Poe *Fantasy* Liveship Traders 1: Ship of Magic - Book of the month. The Silmarillion / J.R.R Tolkien - Fantastic. A lot of names and places but this really does read like a history as opposed to a narrative. As for what I'm currently reading: *Fantasy* Liveship Traders 2: Mad Ship *Mystery* Boy's Life / Robert McCammon *Silkpunk* Dandelion Dynasty 3: Veiled Throne
Wow, 7th! Thats insane. Some great reading on the horizon for me. I’m due for some more Poe, it’s been a while since I’ve read anything by him. How are you enjoying Mad Ship so far? So happy you enjoyed Ship of Magic, it is a fantastic opening book. I will definitely be reading The Silmarillion sometime. Are you doing it physically or via audio? I can’t wait to see where you end up with Boy’s Life. So many people absolutely love that book. Thanks for watching and interacting as always, Rogue!
Definitely want to be more mindful this year on my reads as well! Won't be able to get to A Spear Cuts Through Water this month but sounds like a great read. Happy new year!
I too want to not put so much pressure on myself to finish books just to hurry and start the next one. It is hard because there are so many wonderful books out there waiting! But there always will be so may as well enjoy fully the ones we do have time for. I am reading both Prophet of Edan and The Spear Cuts Through Water as well as left over from last year still working on The Covenant of Water in audible. I tried Spear in audible but have personally found it easier to follow the different voices by reading it, on kindle. My answer to your joke, I'm pretty sure I got it right this time: In a snow bank!
It’s so hard not to rush, because you’re right there are so many books I am excited to read! But I suppose that’s a wonderful problem to have right 🤷♂️? Did you enjoy The Way of Edan? I’m assuming you did if you’re continuing! I can’t imagine doing Spear strictly on audio, maybe immersion reading. I have never heard of The Covenant of Water, who is that by? YOU GOT IT! Great guess!!! Happy reading to you, hopefully your year is off to a great start!
the Covenant of Water is by Abraham Verghese, contemporary fiction. He also wrote Cutting for Stone., it was good too. Yes I enjoyed The Way of Edan although it wasn't a 5 star but was good enough to want to continue the series and Prophet so far is better. I haven't tried immersive reading but I think The Spear would be a good book to try that on. Yay, I finally got a joke answer right! @@ColinsCornerYT
