As someone who has only read 5 King books, 3 of which being Dark Tower, I loved using this video to expand my TBR hahah. Needful Things and Dead Zone sound most up my alley, hope they live up to their potential! I am personally also really eager to get to 11/22/63, IT, The Institute and Salem's Lot. Great video!
Wowwwww you have some amazing reads (in my opinion) Esmay! 11/22/63 is SO GOOD. So is It and Salem’s Lot. I can’t wait to start to hear some of your thoughts on these when you read them, I hope you love them! Thank you for watching and commenting as always ♥️.
Great list. I'd probably give all of those 4 stars at least. The Regulators is my favorite Richard Bachman book by far but reading Despeeration first is the way to go for most people. Was a big fan of the Bill Hodges trilogy so am very much looking forward to Holly.
Ooooh man yes 11/22/63! I really hope you love that one as much as I did. I have that book to thank for bringing me back to reading fiction as an adult!
I did sort of an interesting thing that might make a neat video. I compiled the Top 10 SK novels from the handful of Booktubers I follow. Sort of surprising how it turned out.
I've read 58 King novels, short story collections, and novella collections. Without knowing which you've already read, here's my top 10 list of favorites: 10. Different Seasons (Rita Hayworth), 9. The Dead Zone, 8. 11/22/63, 7. Bag of Bones (vastly underrated), 6. It (maybe the best character development of ANY book written after 1985), 5. Night Shift (6 stories made into movies, 5 into TV adaptations), 4. Pet Sematary (scared the pants off me), 3. The Shining (brilliant descent into madness), 2. Salem's Lot (THE vampire novel, with apologies to Anne Rice and Bram Stoker), and 1. The Stand (King's magnum opus, good vs. evil with fabulous characters).
Love your ranking, and I’ve got some still to read from this list! I have yet to read Different Seasons, The Dead Zone, Bag of Bones, and Night Shift. The Shining is my favorite King book as of right now. But absolutely love the other ones you mentioned that I have read. Thank you for stopping by the channel and commenting!
I've read all these except for The Regulators and I have it on my shelf front and center. Oh, and Revival, haven't read it, don't know how it slipped past me, I better find myself a copy after I read The Regulators. You will surely enjoy all of these. I loved Needful Things.
Colin, you've got some minor King on the list but The Dead Zone is an absolute classic. By the way, I find your videos fun, thought provoking and well worth the watch.
Thank you so much for the kind words, John! I’m glad you found the channel and I appreciate your interactions, that’s the main reason I started the channel was to talk to more people about books!
I swear, this is similar to what so many people say about Revival! Between Revival and Duma Key I think they may be some of King’s most slept on books.
I love Stephen King! I currently own 5 of his that I haven't read so my next book of his will be one of those. I have Duma Key, The Talisman, Mr. Mercedes, The Wind Through the Keyhole, and 11/22/63.
Oh wow, Duma Key and 11/22/63 are absolutely fantastic in my opinion. I also enjoyed the Mr. Mercedes trilogy a lot. We both have a lot to look forward to in the near future! Thanks for stopping by, Morgan. And happy reading!
I started to list a couple of my favorites from this list, then realized I couldn't easily pick just 1-2 favorites, as I really enjoyed most of them. Easier for me to point out my least favs,,,I didn't enjoy Gerald's Game...Desperation/Regulators did not make a huge impact on me, as I mostly only remember them for their covers! Thanks for sharing your thoughts...I hope you enjoy them all!
Thanks for your input! I don’t really have too many expectations for these going into them other than I hope to enjoy them. So that’s a good place to be in mentally I feel. I have no idea how Gerald’s Game will work as a book but I really loved the adaptation of it. What a King do you plan on reading next?
@@ColinsCornerYT I read them all as they came out starting in the '70's with "Carrie" ...Lisey's Story sort of derailed me and I stopped King for a bit, but have been catching up with the newer ones. The exceptoin to reading them as they came out were the Dark Tower series, which did not appeal to me.I own them all & hope to start on them this year.
This was an incredibly well made video. I actually thought about making one like this myself because there are so many King books I want to read next year. Speaking of Stephen King though, I did dress up as pennywise for Halloween and film a video talking about my top 5 Stephen king books :)
Thanks I appreciate the kind words! I’ll have to check your video out and see that costume. There’s so many left to read for me and he still keeps pumping them out!
There are some great King's on this list! I loved the Dark Half and Revival! I remember liking Doctor Sleep a lot .. but I probably need to re-read it to remember any details 😅I have been meaning to get to The Needful things and a few of the Bachman books for a while .. one day it will happen. Great video!
Needful things is a tough one cause it’s so big haha. But that’s great to hear you loved Dark Half, Revival, and Doctor Sleep. Thanks for watching, Kris!
I wouldn't worry re Doctor Sleep. I think it's a worthy sequel. Sequels don't tend to affect my love for the previous work one way or the other (I should specify: I mean sequels in the sense the original was a self contained story in itself)
That’s kinda of how I hoped Doctor Sleep would be, The Shining was a complete enough story in and of itself that I think I will be able to compartmentalize them as different things with crossover. Thanks for the heads up though that makes me feel even better about it.
Hey Colin I'm really enjoying your videos and personality! I didn't read many of these books but Needful things is so dark and totally bonkers! Would gave it full 5 stars but If I remember correctly the ending was dull and stupid but King is famous for his weak endings so I'm here for the journey! 😁 Also I hated pet sematary and didn't like Salem's lot and The shining that much!
Thanks for the kind words, I’m so glad you found the channel! As a King fan I am used to endings that don’t blow me away, although I don’t think many of them are as bad as people say. Thanks so much for watching and interacting!
Thoughts on your 10: 10. After you read Doctor Sleep, watch the movie. I think it's one of the better adaptations. Doctor Sleep is a strong book, too. All the stuff King does well. 9. Holly - your thoughts about being too close to reality were true for me, too. I don't normally care about King's politics, but I think everyone is sick of COVID-19 stuff - I don't want to read about it in fiction, and that did take away from the story for me. (Still a good story) 8. & 7. I just re-read Desperation... I like it more than Regulators. But, as you said, I read that one first! 6. The Dark Half - According to King, Tabitha King's least favorite novel - too close to her weird husband! Vintage King - will be interested to see what you think! 5. The Long Walk - I listened to this last spring and it hit differently this time. I LOVE this book. Challenge for you: do this one audiobook WHILE WALKING. Keeping a 15-minute mile pace walking is damn near impossible - I figured that out the first couple of walks. Gave up keeping the pace, but I listened to the whole thing while walking and that made it super fun. Excellent book. 4. Needful Things - Meh... it's not one of my favorites, but it's still a good ride. And you're right, King should never say "last" about anything! Ha! 3. Gerald's Game - Another great adaptation, as you said. Now that you've seen it, do you need to read it? Well, sure, you should read ALL King books, but it's not in my greatest hits. After you read this, read the related novel - Dolores Claiborne. The audiobook of Dolores Claiborne is excellent. 2. Revival - Meh... this is one I read once and have mostly forgotten. Will I read it again? Probably. Will I like it better next time? Not likely. 1. The Dead Zone... wow, your list is kind of weird! Ha ha ha! I'm guessing because the 30 you've already read are the most popular ones. Anyway, this is another good vintage King book that I did enjoy. You will definitely be expanding your King with these books... will be interesting to see what you think. This has helped me think about giving extra chances to some I've only read once or twice.... because I've been to the Tower four times and read It probably 4 or 5 times, etc. etc. etc. I need to bone up on some of the less popular ones. Hope you enjoy all these. Joke - Spruce Lee!
I have heard some fantastic reviews of the Doctor Sleep movie, but I’ve been deliberately putting it off cause I would like to read it first. And wow, what a freaking cool way to immerse yourself during The Long Walk! That sounds like so much fun. I think you may be right that I have already read a decent amount of the “heavy hitters” but I have so much of my journey to go. And I have not read much in the Castle Rock realm so that will all be fun and exciting territory for me to follow. You got the joke! I love when people get the Comedy with Colin.
