Excellent review! I highly recommend reading Children of Dune after Dune Messiah. Dune Messiah is a bridge book between books 1 and 2. Dune is still my favorite of the three, but Children of Dune felt like it completed an arc for me. I’m still planning to read God Emperor at some point for more wormy weirdness. 😄
Thanks so much, Johanna! And okay good to know, I’ll have to get my hands on a copy of Children of Dune. Wormy weirdness 😂I love that. Thanks for watching and interacting! Happy reading, my friend!
This is a great review, especially for people who are getting into Dune without a lot of previous knowledge about the series. Dune re-reads are the best. I have read it three times now and it is a different experience every time.
Thanks, Joseph! I can certainly imagine Dune hitting differently depending on where I’m at in my life on rereads. If I’m not mistaken Herbert deliberately intended for the book to have reread value, which I think is so cool.
Such a great book dude! A couple things regarding the movies mentioned: I haven’t seen the first Dune movie from the 80s, which was directed by David Lynch, but I really wanna see that adaptation. Also, I think Tremors was inspired by Dune. But I def wanna re-read this at some point and hopefully the sequel as well
Thanks so much, Chas! And okay, that’s great to know because I’d love to continue on in the series but I know a lot of people think it gets a bit iffy eventually. Although I’m not sure at one point that is.
Bruised Wayne, of course! ha ha! Dune, definitely a classic. I have an ancient paperback copy. Wow, I just looked it up on internet and similar copies are for sale $67.00 and up. Mines not for sale though. I just reread it last year and enjoyed it just as much as previous reads. I enjoyed the movie too, haven't seen the second one yet.
No, can’t sell that! Thats a keepsake! I’m happy to have finally gotten around to reading this one. So much to think about and was a great story on top of it all. That’s a reader’s paradise!
I still need to continue on in my Dune journey. I may need to re read Dune first. I have heard it gets pretty weird though. Also have you read Wheel of Time? If so there are some cool similarities with a specific group.
I have not read WOT yet, but I’ve been considering doing either “the year of Sanderson” next year on my channel, or tackling a series like the WOT. Thats a big one I really need to get to
Joooooon! Dune is fanta-sci to me, that is to say more fantasy than it is sci-fi. Technology and anything scientific is very much background - the foreground is feudal politics, sword fights, prophecy, mystical visions, a chosen one, and Bene Gesserit magic. I’d say it’s the best bridge to sci-fi for a fantasy lover. 🪱
I’d also strongly recommend reading on. Up to & including God Emperor are great books, though they’re all quite different from each other, and become more political & philosophical as they go on. Dune is really just a setup book for the rest. And Mississippi has so many eyes. 😜
Okay duly noted. I definitely have interest in continuing. On top of it being a great story, I really enjoyed Herbert’s prose. Thanks for the information man! And yes! We have a winner! Hope all is well with you my friend.

Idk man…I feel like Dune was definitely inspired by the cultural icon Tremors…😂
Wow, I didn’t realize how complex Dune was! I better be on my A game when I go to read this one!
It’s pretty layered but Herbert does a fantastic job laying everything out for the reader. I hope you enjoy it if you end up giving it a try someday!
Awesome review Colin! Glad you enjoyed Dune. It’s one of my all time favorites. Dune Messiah is just as good in my opinion.

Looks good. Dune is now on my TBR.
Awesome! Thats the goal!

Nice review mate 👍
Love this book 👌
