My duuuuuude! Fair play in getting your thoughts out in half the time that I did 😂 loved that your brought up parenthood, that was a huge aspect for me in the book. I'm starting HoC tonight!
Seems like we had a lot of similar takeaways which is awesome!! And man I had to structure this or I would’ve gone on forever 😂. I’ll also be starting HOC tonight!
Great to hear your thoughts here, Colin! The title of your video says it well: "A poignant display of compassion and empathy." Excellent video -- thank you!
I agree about deadhouse hittin me a bit harder in different ways. Deadhouse gates clicked for me at the chain of dogs and then made memories of ice so much easier to follow somehow, even though they take place on different continents. I’m about to continue HoC as well excited to hear your thoughts
Same here in regard to the chain of dogs. I’m through chapter 2 so far in HOF, and so far really enjoying it a lot. Love the character we begin the story following. Thanks for watching and interacting with the channel, Chance!
WOW!! What an amazing review man. The part on compassion towards the end of this review is so impactful brother. Excellent, Excellent review my friend.
Oh Collin, that was such a beautiful review. I don't care that you didn't talk about the other events in the book. Because you described the main themes and motiffs of the book so well in such a short span. This book is really profound, and I had many of the same reactions you did. The themes are done so well. Be prepared for a completely different book in House of Chains, a totally different and unique experience.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Sourav! Glad you enjoyed the review. I was really struggling with what to include since there’s just so much to talk about. I’ll be starting HOC tonight! I’m so excited!
I completely agree with Erikson’s ability to instil these emotions and life-altering ideas within people, it’s truly great work. Great review, Colin. Looking forward to starting HOC real soon
Just finished, awesome review. In scenes like Itkovian's there is almost this feeling where I almost want to turn away, so often in our lives while we live amogst freinds, loved ones etc. there is a sense of lonliness in our own journey's through the human condition. And sometimes it takes forms of art to act as a medium where it feels as if there is mutual recognition between yourself and the art of aspects of life? Humanness? If I can use the term our spiritual aspects? idk what I am saying But scenes like soldiers across races, species, factions bearing down, stripping themselves of the muddiness of everything else and being just able to for once recognise these aspects of each and every one of us that we ignore just hits a nerve. When you read the quote it really just reignited some of the feelings I felt reading through the series. I have speaking disorders and autism so orally communicating my chaotic thoughts into words is difficult, and through the series it truly felt as if there was mutual recongition of certain emotions I was going through and so much more Besides all that great review 😅really like this format
Thanks Bobby! I agree with you, art of any form, especially fiction books, seem to have a way of allowing us to experience these emotions that are unavailable to us I everyday life. That’s one of my favorite parts about reading, and this IMO helps to build empathy for others. Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment and interaction with my channel. You have no idea how much I appreciate it and you and your opinions are valued and welcome here my friend!
Moving discussion, mate, and I don’t think anyone could have anything to “correct” you on. No question, Itkovian is THE MAN. I had a similar experience: Itkovian who? And suddenly I’m absolutely blown away by the man. And the Mhybe is such a stunning exploration of motherhood, and specifically unwanted motherhood. She gives everything she has to Silverfox, in the most visceral sense, and all unavoidably and against her will. So tragic. 😔
So very many things to explore and think about with this and every Erikson book. It as so difficult to decide what to speak on for this video. But thanks so much for the kind words brother. Itkovian 💪✊✊
@@ColinsCornerYT okay I had to go and read again but yeah, after Heboric found the Jade statue he basically plucked Fener from his realm and essentially doomed him to death
Great review! I totally agree with the importance of reading fiction. Someone told me about an Umberto Eco quote that really hits home. "The person who doesn’t read lives only one life. The reader lives 5,000. Reading is immortality backwards." I'm with you on Deadhouse Gates being a hair above Memories of Ice. I looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the series! . . . . . (Itkovian 😭😭😭)
That’s an amazing quote and so true!! I mean really we’re just splitting hairs at this point between DHG and MOI, it just came down to me that I simply enjoyed the plot of DHG a bit more and the slightly darker tone. But both are incredibly good. Thanks for the kind words my friend!
I think I will be able to join the HoC readalong hopefully in my reread! Last exam of the semester is in 6 days, heard you finished yours so congrats on that and enjoy life with a tiny bit less stress 😅
All the books are excellent and among my faves even if book 8 and 10 edge it out for me in the end. Moi is actually among my personal least favourites.
Yeah, i dropped the series after this one. The way every scene seems to be its own short story makes the story as a whole come across as rather repetitive. Just give the crippled god his heart back or whatever the "compassionate" thing is to do, and stop waisting my time.
Haha I totally get what you’re saying. Once learning through interviews that Erikson was trained as a short story writer I was able to get down with this style of writing more I think. But it’s still a long haul to the finish from here and if you’re not interested best move on to something you will enjoy reading!

Some very well placed thoughts there! Really loved hearing them and so glad you're enjoying this journey.

Let’s gooo HOC! I’m starting tonight after work. I did notice the prologue is rather short, so it’ll be heading straight into things!

Fener was brought down by Heboric in DHG I pretty sure
I cannot confirm or deny this because I cannot remember, although you might be right 😅

Is 8 Toll the Hounds? Thanks for the kind words man! I’m so excited to start House of Chains!
@@ColinsCornerYT yup. Toll the Hounds. Memories of Ice is only a primer as to what Erikson can do as a writer.
