As blasphemous as this song appeared to be when I first heard it, I was glad he said second best. He didn't claim to be God, but as some people say, sometimes we need Jesus with skin on. That flesh and bone line reminds me of that.

I'm always annoyed when people recommend the video version instead of the album version. The video version cuts a whole instrumental part at the end of the song, which is one of the best instrumental parts of DM. At least you should hear that in private :-)

When you grew up listening to them, it almost is natural the progression of their sound and music. It's very interesting to see how it is for someone who is discovering them now and looking back into their catalogue and comparing their older things from their newer songs, etc. Anyway, there's so much amazing music and experiment with them, whichever era, and Dave Gahan's life story is definitely worth reading about.

The story he’s telling is about the same girl. At 16 she tried to take her own life, then at 18 after she’d found new life with Jesus, she gets killed in a car accident. So her mother mourns yet again. It’s dark but this kind of tragedy happens every day. 😢

Yeah, this, like a fair number of them but especially this being such a big hit, will be things you'll find you know snippets off to some extent or another. Just one of those groups that have been around and big for decades so radio, overhead music at groceries, all over the place. Also, I love that you have such a great vibe for Dave's voice. I'd suggest next trying a song where Martin does a lead (he's the backup in the songs David leads).... One Caress, Home, a live in Paris version of It Doesn't Matter Two (very different and lead by Dave on the album). They each have great voices that have such different timbres and have used them together and separately to be part of what makes DM's songs so distinctive.
