This song is maximum nostalgia for me. I'm so glad to have had a childhood in an era prior to smart phones and social media. Their song "Disarm" is brilliant and moving, fantastic lyrics.
"Disarm" is my very favorite song from Smashing Pumpkins, I believe it was their very first hit song and music video. It's about his parents and how toxic he felt his childhood was.
I was hoping you'd get to this band!!! This holds so many good memories for me. I have a special fondness for this band because my friend Melissa Auf der Maur became their bassist in 2000. She didn't get to play on "Machina", (album #5) but she toured the world with them on that tour. We (her friends in Montreal) all lived vicariously through her. 🙂 I hope other Smashing Pumpkins songs will find their way to you.
This song is iconic to many Gen Xers who were as young and carefree as the kids in the video when it came out. Not a single cell phone at that party, no evidence of the shenanigans 😄
Gen Xer here born in 73, I absolutely love this song!! Hope you’ll listen/watch their song “Tonight Tonight”, it’s beautiful & the video is crazy cool.
This song is about growing up in middle class suburbs of America. I was in 10th grade in 1979 so this song is targeted at my demographic group. Bored teens in cars, kissing girls and smoking pot, etc...
yes, Saeed! Billy had a voice of a Mellon Collie generation. And when Jimmy Chamberlain lets loose on the drums it’s the muscle and blood. Great addition to the channel!
Welcome to the wonderful world of the mighty Smashing Pumpkins one of the greatest bands ever walked this planet their vast and diverse catalog can stand with anybody’s in the history of music, cherub rock disarm bullet with butterfly wings tonight tonight zero I am one bury me. The list goes on and on.
I love this so much! So many memories. My daughter was born in 1979 and graduated in 1997! My husband got out of grad school in 79 and we moved from Mass to Tenn.
The music video for their song Perfect is a sequel to this one, following up on the same characters a few years down the line. Perfect is also a good song.
I rarely see people reacting to Modest Mouse. It's been my favorite group since 1997, when their amazing album Lonesome Crowded West came out. It would be amazing to watch some reactions to their music.
@@SaeedReacts. Thanks, that would be awesome. As a writer, I know you like great lyrics, and Isaac Brock, the group founder and now only original member, has a fairly unique storytelling approach that often combines scientific, religious and philosophical concepts in strange ways and with interesting observations on life. Band's best known song is Float On, which you may have heard, but they have many better songs, imo. Cowboy Dan, Doin the Cockroach, Trailer Trash, Paper Thin Walls, World at Large, Third Planet, Good Times are Killing Me, Ocean Breathes Salty, Parting of the Sensory, Spitting Venom, and so many more. But then I'm biased. :)
It really is strange, but it feels nostalgic even though i have never heard the song or even lived through that time period 😄. I think It's the feeling it conjures up. Great song!
Love the Smashing Pumpkins. My daughter loved them when she was a young teen. She refused to believe Corrigan was as old as me! I was in my mid 30s lol. Dig up more!! ☮️❤️😎🎼
I'd beg to differ and say you're vibing with the guitar (that plays low notes over almost the whole song), as opposed to the bass properly resting on two notes in each section ... but what do I know. And who cares, that track is dope.
Great song (although, quite chilled out by their usual standards) from their third album (a double LP) - which seemed to split their audience - many disliked it; many consider it a classic. I think's a fine album but certainly has it's weak moments, but what 28 track album wouldn't? My favourite of theirs is 'Mayonaise' from the previous album - which is more representative of their overall sound.
@@SaeedReacts. Mayonnaise is great. But I'd go with some of their bigger hits first. Bullet with Butterfly Wings in particular really hits hard. Cherub Rock is another SP classic.
@@randallpetersen9164 So many good tunes, it's hard to choose but the fisrt album I heard was 'Siamese Dream' and that particular tune stood out for me and still sounds as good now.

Same!
Same. Disarm is the one that brought me into the world.

That is awesome! Definitely hope to explore more. Maybe even a live performance from the tour your friend was on 😃
@SaeedReacts. That would be awesome!!! It was the tour for "Machina/The Machines of God) in 2000.

In 1979 I was 23 and in the process of moving to the central California coast. The stuff dreams are made of
Cherub Rock
Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Today
Disarm
Tonight Tonight
Zero
Rhinoceros
Drown
Ava Adore
Thirty Three
I was 18 and graduated in 79 best time of my life!! I would go back in a heartbeat 💓!!
The song captures nostalgia universally, but the video captures the moment in time it was filmed (1996).

9th Grade. Great year!

Iconic, I love the nineties... For many types of music, not just rock.
Bullet with butterfly wings is one of their songs that I think you will enjoy. Saying that you may recognize it though

I was 12 when this song came out and it brings back so many fun memories of that time of my life.
Congrats on 3 years, man. You are strong!
This song gives me chills every time I hear it along with a little bit of melancholy. Can we go back?
Herbie was a voltswagon beatle, my first car a orange one........................................................
one of my fave Smashing Pumpkins songs! I suggest their song: Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Thanks for the recommendation.
Amazing band,, Bullet with Butterfly wings, Tonight Tonight, Rhinoceros , Today are all very different from each other and all sensational
Thanks for the recommendations!

First time i ever see that name. I added it to my list. Thanks!
Second that. My favorite track of theirs is Polar Opposites

Not another song that brings the nostalgia like this song.
So nostalgic hearing this ❤

Hit songs......Bullet with butterfly wings, 33, Tonight,.Disarm, TODAY....
A dune bug * dune buggies were beach vehicles (look up animated "speed buggy") Some would be modified with roll bars and such for a Baja race.
the cop walking into the store at the end was Vince Vaughn..the actor
Totally missed that! 😅
"Mayonnaise" 🎧
Best baseline ever.

I was never a Smashing Pumpkins fan, but I always loved this song. Great beat, has an early New Order feel to it.
Everclear - Santa Monica
Check out "Zero" or "Bodies".
You should listen to Mayonaise.
Next one: Cherub Rock.
Thanks for the recommendation.
Any The Contortionist enthusiast here? ^_^

One of the worst bands of all time. They're just horrible.
Then why are you here?
such an awful opinion
