The "backing group" included Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, J.D.Souther, Steven Soles, James Burton, K.D. Lang, Jennifer Warnes, Bonnie Rait.
IT WAS GREAT TO SEE... THEY CALLED IT THE BLACK AND WHITE CONCERT.. ROY GONE TO EARLY..ALL BY HIMSELF WHEN HE PASSED. HE LIVED IN ENGLAND BECAUSE HE FELT THE PEOPLE ENJOYED HIM MORE THERE, BUT TRAVELING TO UNITED STATES TO PERFORM AT TIMES.. TOO BAD HE WASN'T APPRECIATED IN HIS DAY.. 💙💙💙
Roy Orbison and The Beatles toured the United Kingdom together in 1963, from May 18 to June 9. The tour included other acts. Roy was the headliner. a mere year and 4 months later he had the #1 song in the USA amid all the Beatles hits and others. The guita riff is hevaily influenced by Liverpool Bands, he knew exactly what he was doing to get a hit...sound similar to the Liverpool sound with his own stamp on it. Roy was one of the Bealtes' heroes in rock. just listen to hold Me tight by the Beatles, or I Call Your Name, and you will hear similar guitar riffs to Pretty Woman. Or the Hippy Hippy Shake by the Swinging Blue Jeans. even the Beach Bys had a song called Dance, Dance, Dance with a similar riff around the same time as Roy's Pretty Woman.
James Burton was the guy in the white jacket playing that fantastic guitar interlude with Bruce Springsteen. Burton is a guitar legend, ranking #24 in Rolling Stone magazine's 250 greatest guitarists of all time. Among his many fans is Rolling Stone's Keith Richards. He formed the backup band TCB for Elvis Presley. You name a great singer/group and you'll find James Burton played with them at one time or another. I love how Roy stands back a bit and let's Burton & Springteen to their thing. That was a special moment.
James first played for like 8 years for Ricky Nelson in the studio, on the TV show [The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Rick's parents' sitcom], and on tour first. Along with being a studio muscian in high demand.
Roy with an all star cast. Just magic 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 What a lot of fun 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Jame Burton, the guy dueling with The Boss has played with just about every big name in the music industry. A legend
The guitarist winning the duel with Springsteen is James Burton, who played with Elvis (Presley and Costello), the Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, Rick Nelson and just about everybody else at one point or other.
There is an apocryphal story about a reporter asking Elvis what it was like to have the greatest voice in rock and roll. Reportedly, Elvis replied, "I don't know. You should ask Roy Orbison." I don't know if it is true but if it isn't, it should be. When Elvis was with Sun records, he toured with Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Louis.
Backed by Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Burton, Glen D. Hardin, Tom Waits, kd lang, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, T Bone Burnett, Steven Soles, and Jennifer Warnes. Recorded September 30, 1987.
An iconic singer , an iconic song.ive been listening to this great song probably 60 yrs , never got tired of it. Roy was good friends with Elvis. Elvis said Roy's voice is the best he ever heard.
And you must recall, yes, that he was also a member of The Traveling Wilburys so, indirectly, you have the musical connections to all those musicians in one way or another besides the ones on stage: George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. As you referenced, as you keep learning, the connections, influences, and tributes they give each other is awesome. They are conversing through their music and speaking a musical language to each other.
I love that concert/video/album. I gave a donation to PBR(Public Radio Broadcasting)and got this DVD. I like it because you can't wear out CD's or DVD's
HEYYYYYYY, THIS IS THE RIGHT VIDEO CLIP, OF COURSE YOU GOT IT RIGHT!!!💯😊AND SEVERAL ARTISTS ON HERE THAT WERE YOUNG AT THE TIME SAEED, JACKSON BROWNE, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, ELVIS COSTELLO, AND YOU HAD THE FEMALE SINGERS , YEAH THIS WAS AWESOME👍 AND IT'S FROM THE DVD ( BLACK & WHITE NIGHT ) CONCERT, DO YOU WATCH STUFF, LIKE DVD CONCERTS, MOVIES???
🎶🎶🔥🎶🎶 since you mentioned the legends , in particular .. Elvis Costello ---- here is a recommendation of a stellar song , it is a collaboration of Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach ------ titled "Painted From Memory" 🎶🎶🎶🔥🎶🎶🎶
This is probably Roy Orbison's most famous song. He had lots of hits in the 60's such as "Crying", "Only The Lonely", "Running Scared", "In Dreams", "Love Hurts", "Leah" etc. In 1988, he co-founded the rock supergroup "Traveling Wilburys" with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. I think you have done some of their songs already.
Even though 20+ years after the original it’s a pretty close version, except for the guitar solos. Rhythm section perfect which shows the quality of the original session musicians.
What’s with Jackson Browne chewing gum, every time I see this video or this concert I wonder why he would do that very weird. Love Roy Orbison and this concert was fantastic with all these famous artists helping him out.
If you like Roy Orbison, it would be good to react to Only the Lonely, from that same concert. And as for Pretty Woman, there is a cover that Springsteen and John Fogertty did for the Hall of Fame. fantastic.
Great tune. Van Halen do a great version of this if you've not heard it yet. 'Gary Moore' has a great song called 'Oh Pretty Woman' but it's not a cover that should be heard as well. Cheers.
If UA-cam is correct, you haven't reacted to "Africa USA We Are The World" yet. You will be blown away with the artists involved, as well as the song itself. I definately don't want to miss your reaction to this classic. ua-cam.com/video/9AjkUyX0rVw/v-deo.htmlsi=eL1foCh2RXnHWqQv
Now you have to listen to the remake by Van Halen doing "pretty woman" m.ua-cam.com/video/dLaFiKfpcVQ/v-deo.html&pp=ygUWdmFuIGhhbGVuIHByZXR0eSB3b21hbg%3D%3D
The song came long before the movie. That movie is not a favorite of mine. No young woman should ever believe Prince Charming is a possibility when working the streets. Of course, that is just my opinion.
The song was a rock and roll hit before it was ever used for movie years later.
The "backing group" included Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, J.D.Souther, Steven Soles, James Burton, K.D. Lang, Jennifer Warnes, Bonnie Rait.

He has one of the most iconic voices in history.
Elvis said that no one could compare with Roy's unique vocal ability, not even himself.
I heard Elvis was asked once how does it feel to have the greatest voice,he replied I don’t know you have to ask Roy Orbison
ROY AND ELVIS SURE DID RESPECT EACH OTHER😊

Only the lonely is my favorite ❤
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely, hey that’s me and I want you only - Bruce Springsteen, Thunder Road
My favorite Roy Orbison song is Crying. Please do the studio version. Then do the Black and White live version.
He’s an amazing singer. Elvis said his voice was the best on the planet! ❤❤
His voice is gorgeous, the more I hear it, the more I see that the praise he's received is well earned.
spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 from September 26, 1964
Yes. Almost 3 decades before the movie.
Roy with an all star cast. Just magic 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
What a lot of fun 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Jame Burton, the guy dueling with The Boss has played with just about every big name in the music industry. A legend
Incredible talent along with my favorite singers, Elvis Costello and KD Lang, on stage.
Vibrato, Vibrato, Bravo! Chicken Soup for my soul.A great musical menue.Backups are a main dish individually.Miss you Roy.
The guitarist winning the duel with Springsteen is James Burton, who played with Elvis (Presley and Costello), the Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, Rick Nelson and just about everybody else at one point or other.
All due respect to Freddy, Brad Delp, Steve Perry, Ann Wilson, etc., Roy Orbison had the best singing voice ever.
Definitely you have to check out” in dreams” and” running scared”😘😘😘👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Fun! Legends on stage!
The A list of musicians paying homage to the Big O . !!!!
I think that was also Bruce Springsteen on a guitar. Roy is a legend from my early life . Love everything he sings.❤🥰
I am so enjoying your journey through the soundtrack of my life ❤

Watch the Monument concert from 1965 to see and hear Roy at the height of his career.
Springsteen ( second guitar solo ) always cited Roy as one of his major influences in his younger days
Elvis once commented how much he liked Roy's voice❗
Great reaction! Such a fun song !
Nice reaction! From this same concert, Roy's "In Dreams" is a must listen.

James Burton on lead guitar - from the band that played with Elvis
This might be from 1988 but I was listening to Roy Orbison on the radio as a toddler. It’s the earliest song I can remember from my childhood.
He was a legend for a very long time before the movie reminded us!
The Black and White Night is so good.
It is sooo why i love live versions.....seeing the artists passion live. Ibtarde it for studio perfection anytime.
Amazing to witness this. Thanks for watching.
All these legends were kids when Roy was a star.
One of the greatest singing one of my favorite songs.
I love that concert/video/album. I gave a donation to PBR(Public Radio Broadcasting)and got this DVD. I like it because you can't wear out CD's or DVD's
Singular talent - there will never be another like him. We're so fortunate to have so many video recordings of these amazing concerts.
James Burton on the guitar. Played for Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson and Gram Parsons.
❤one of a kind
I bet we would all love to see you react to Jay Black then and now as he sings Cara Mia in 1965 and then when he was 72!
Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jennifer Warrens, K C Lang, J D Souther, what’s not to love?
MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM CANADA!
Merry Christmas from Belgium!

LOVE RIU. TX SAEED. WHAT A PLEASURE TO LISTEN THIS. YOU ARE APPRECIATED. GREETINGS FROM SOUTH AFRICA
Phenomenal!!!
Thank you, Saeed and wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas! 🎄⛄🎅 David
Elvis Costello is another phenomenal lyricist for you to analyze Saeed 👍
Great song.. 🔥

I only knew this song as a Van Halen song for the longest time.
Didn't Bruce say something along the lines of wanting to perform like Elvis, write like Dylan and sing like Orbison?
This is probably Roy Orbison's most famous song. @$actown5472 I always noticed that with Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon too.
Hi Saeed, have a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to my very favorite podcaster. 12/20/24
Hi Janet! Thanks so much foe the kind words. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you!

Thanks for sharing these recommendations. Hope to explore more of both artists.
Roy’s first hit single
This was far from his first. He'd already scored with Uptown, Only the Lonely, and others.
😇🥰😇🥰
Bruce, give it up, you just can't beat James Burton hahhahahaha
Taking about superbands, try with Traveling Wilburys...
I reacted some songs by them and also the mini documentary. Definitely want to check out more.
Have always loved this song sung by Roy and I also think of the movie Pretty Woman which is one of my all times favorites
Great tune. Van Halen do a great version of this if you've not heard it yet. 'Gary Moore' has a great song called 'Oh Pretty Woman' but it's not a cover that should be heard as well. Cheers.
I don't think i have heard that one yet. Thanks for watching and the recommendation.
What exactly are Elvis Costello's virtues? Singing like Bart Simpson? Looking nerdy?
If UA-cam is correct, you haven't reacted to "Africa USA We Are The World" yet. You will be blown away with the artists involved, as well as the song itself. I definately don't want to miss your reaction to this classic.

NOTE- this was a hit LONG BEFORE the movie... OK
It was, but the movie brought it to an entire new generation that might have never heard it otherwise
Who's the guy in the white suit coat?
That's James Burton, a Legend and a half.
Bruce springsteen katie lang Bonnie
Rait
Did you recognize Bruce Springsteen? Still watching but so far you did not mention him.
Now you have to listen to the remake by Van Halen doing "pretty woman"
