I saw him many times in concert-both solo and with a band. I miss him, we lost him way too soon. Very talented writer, singer, multi-instrumentalist. He means what he sings -or relates strongly to it.
Melancholy timing, as we lost Dan in mid-December, in 2007. This was one of the few covers Dan ever recorded, and it is very different in style from the Cascades version. Dan basically treated the song as if Otis Redding had written it. This dates to the tail end of Dan's long career with Epic Records, and shows off his later, bluesier vocal style. Dan loved blues and usually incorporated some into live shows. I'm as big a fan of Fogelberg as I am of Carpenters; Dan is my favourite singer-songwriter. One of his songs, The Sand And The Foam, the lyric of which is inspired by the writings of Khalil Gibran, I love enough to want it played at my funeral. Not soon, but I do... Nice reaction. Dan did not do many covers but he sure made this one famous. I still think you would love stuff from his first 2 albums. Little tidbit he played all the instruments on many early songs. I tried to do a coffee thing for his song The Last Nail but I blew it. ☹I'll try again after Christmas.
Definitely will try to check out more from his earlier work. There was an outage last week with the site. Other people also had issues. But i closed the queue now for a few weeks. Thanks for watching. Happy Holidays to you and your family
Dan Fogelberg's music catalog is huge. Well worth a deep dive. That last little bit is a Beatles salute. When the rain comes they run and hide their heads they might as well be dead, when the rain comes. John Lennon 1966.
Love Tucson Arizona. It is one of his great storytelling songs and builds into layers and layers of music. Love the percussion, the classical guitar, everything...and the way it crescendos. It's one of his deeper cuts but a fantastic piece of music.
I believe The Cascades released this in 1963. It's more uptempo. Worth a listen when you have a few mins 🎶🎵 Love Dan's music so much. I think I see a couple members of Toto playing bass and drums 💚
Yes...Mike Porcaro on bass. Not sure if brother Jeff is on drums or not. But yeah...those Toto guys were asked to play on MANY sessions. Especially Steve Lukather. He's all over the place for many artists. But again..they all were. A bunch of fab musos..T
He was a great one. The full package - great voice, songwriter (though not this one), multi-instrumentalist, poetic lyricist, able to play many styles, and easy on the eyes to boot. For a rockin' Dan - "Power of Gold"; For a romantic amorous Dan - "Dancing Shoes"; For a last parting after an ended marriage - "seeing you again"; For a latin american feel - "Maybe I'll fall for you"; For existential life questions "Nexus" and for a full orchestration existential experience "Netherlands".
This was 28 years after the original by the Cascades. It amazed me that the same song with the exact same lyrics can sound like 2 different songs. And both of them great.
Being a lyricist, you must react to Dan’s take on the USAs springtime ritual, held in the state of Kentucky every year, Known here as the Kentucky Derby. The song is a masterpiece, called. Run for the Roses. It’s a take on this event, from the horses point of view!
To get Dan Fogelberg you absolutely must listen to the song called Part of the Plan. I mean, there are actually about 15-18 songs of his that are absolute must listens, but for me Part of the Plan sits at the top of the list. It's the song that literally was a sort of "last straw" that pushed me in the direction of taking my poetry hobby more seriously than just as a fun thing to do and share.
@@SaeedReacts. Part Of The Plan was his first big hit but there are many. He played so many different genres --blues, rock, country, jazz, bluegrass, you name it. Start with his triple platinum "Greatest Hits" album and go from there. The well is deep.
Not sure you could find a bad song by Dan Fogelberg,Saeed. He was a consummate artist, singer, multi-faceted muso... I'd suggest almost anything from his double set, The Innocent Age. No sense pinning down particular songs. He's just one of those artists that you'll adore with every new reaction. Enjoy...T

This is a cover. The original was done by The Cascades. I love both versions equally
The first version I ever heard was also a cover, but I like it the best of the 3, and that was Jackie Wards 1978 Country Music version.
such a soulful voice.
Leader Of The Band is one of his best recordings. Touches your heart.
That is a great song!
This song was a big hit for the Cascades in 1962.
It reached #5 on the UK charts where I grew up.
love his voice. im 64 and i forgot how good he is. great reaction, thanks again......................
Amazing artist. Looking forward to more of his music. Thank you for watching.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Run For The Roses is another good one
Dan was one of the best ever ... and I loved how smooth he did this arrangement of a great song!!

Released in 1963 by the Seattle based band The Cascades.

The last couple of lines were an homage to the Beatles' song Rain - not sure if you'd caught that!
React to Dan's song "Tucson Arizona" ... a sad, but great ballad with beautiful acoustic guitar work by Dan.
Thanks for the recommendation. Definitely will check out more of his music.
@@SaeedReacts. Seconding this suggestion. One of the most cinematic songs ever written...a ballad in the original sense, a story song.
Love Tucson Arizona. It is one of his great storytelling songs and builds into layers and layers of music. Love the percussion, the classical guitar, everything...and the way it crescendos. It's one of his deeper cuts but a fantastic piece of music.

Looking forward to discover more of his music!
Love Dan's music. You can hear his voice improve over his numerous albums. I would suggest 'Seeing You Again', 'Our Last Farewell', or The Last Nail'
Another good one is Run For the Roses...done in the early 80s for the Kentucky Derby
To the Morning is worth a listen. He was a deep soul.
Thanks for the recommendation.

I agree. It's probably right there near the top of my list as well. How can you mess with Graham Nash providing some of the backing vocals?
Thanks for the recommendation. Will add it to my list. Definitely interested in hearing it after your comment!

The late and great Porcaro Brothers.
A nod to The Beatles with the outro.
I've loved this song for years. Please listen to The Leader lf the Band. It tells a great story.
The old one, my mother would sing the song. Try CASCADES!!!
Very mellow song by a great singer when you get a chance go down the celine Dion rabbit hole you won't regret it
I have a few reactions to Céline Dion on the channel. Hope to do more.
Have you listened to Jay Black doing Cara Mia in 1965 and again 50 years later at age 72? -- Jay Black Now and Then

Christmas and New Year approaching. You should listen and react to Auld Lang Syne.....such a great story he tells, and this one is a true story.
I like the Cascades version better.
Can you please react to Stigma by Tom Walker I’ve been asking for a really long time
