Your not going to over charge the battery as it thinks it's a 90Ah. (320d 09) Swopped my battery out had a 95Ah in put same back in and just reg'd it in ISTA, got wrong cable to change/code Ah. Remove - 1st then +. Reverse to fit.

I had a Subaru 2.0 litre and used it for my business, it was a subaru Legacy 2,0 estate and it had dine 80,000 miles when i bought it i used it as a service vehicle, and when i sold it it had done 220,000 miles plus and was still running well, the only problem i had with it was a worn rear offside wheel bearing, other than that with regular sevicing it passed many MOT's, and served me well. it certainly earned its money, It was used as a refrigeration and air conditioning vehicle carrying all the welding and braizing equipment, plus all the different refrig gas bottlles, plus tools, it was the most reliable vehicle i had.

Halfords ones are fine tbh as long as you don’t overload them. But there are better ones out there. I actually made some about 40years ago at college. Tested on a press to 7tonnes. I still use them.

I was very shocked when I had to buy a battery for my trackter this last month. I nursed the original one the last two years it actually lasted 9 years. The new one also an AGM type cost me $206.00 usd with a new positive cable that was 15 inches. I priced a new battery about 3 years ago when I first had issues with the battery and it was about$120.00 usd.

I had to replace a battery in a BMW X1, not joking but quoted by BMW dealer Can $750.00!!! Actually cost $620.21!!! Then there's the brakes on a car, done only a bit over 100,000km, that at an "independent garage" cost Can$2200.00!!! And why as a mechanic I think BMW's are shite. Equally why own a BMW when you can have a HSV or FG XR 6 turbo???😂😂😂

Well explained of what went wrong Issac. Hope it's back on the road soon. As for the electrics, don't be scared. If it's a negative ground vehicle as it looks like it is. Put the positive lead on first and then the negative, there will less or no sparks. If it's positive earth like some of the old english cars were, then do the opersite. I belive that most are negative earth nowdays.

Great video Issac. Respect for doing your own work, I also like to roll around under my car fixing stuff. personally I stack heavy duty wooden blocks up, right behind the jack point, then lower the car onto the blocks, but also leave the jack in place still supporting some, but not all of the weight, it needs to be solid hard wood though. Ive never bothered with jack stands. You can never be too careful though, Ive ended up in a jam twice having cars fall off of those boot jacks. all it takes is a slight slope. It would be good to see some snippets of the gear box job if you end up doing that.

Poor engineering where the cam lobes are pressed on and can spin. And a wet belt on oil... Was supposed to save weight issues. They could of used weight saving on other areas like suspension components and engine gearbox mounts and aluminum subframes or plastic front panels. Left the dry belt or timing chains alone. Dealer is 2500 to 3k to change parts and labour. Absolute mess. I praise the various Japanese car brands for not signing up for this method I think

It’s a cheapo crap engine. Such a bad design. Bits of belt clog up the oil ways and feed. If rebuilding I would put a chain or gear wheel conversion. Rubber/plastic in oil is not good. Very few well built budget engines around anymore, everything built for shareholders returns. You’ve got a skip outside, best put it in it and fit a good unit. Certainly no guarantee if it is rebuilt.

It is easier to pull the transmission out, that’s how it’s done in Subaru dealerships. You’ve got a hoist at work. Get a new drive plate for it. Trans out, replace the drive plate, refit trans. Fit a decent engine to turbo exhaust. Job done.

A lot of modern engines don’t have cast camshafts anymore. They usually feature a hollow tube with pre-ground cam lobes that are pressed on (presumably with a jig), so when you have a bit of a clang up, sometimes instead of bending valves, you end up pushing a cam lobe round the shaft to a different position. Not a great idea. I am going to see if I can find out more about the process and maybe make a video about it as we are seeing more and more of this on modern engines!
