WHY PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THAILAND ANYMORE
Thailand has long been a popular destination for tourists, expats, digital nomads and backpackers. The theme when I've spoken to certain people and read comments and watched videos on UA-cam have been that people aren't liking Thailand like they used to, here's why they don't like it and why I love it!

Hitting 1,000 subs in Perth, Australia
Переглядів 33614 днів тому
As of writing this, I'm at 959 subscribers which means while I'm in Perth for the next few weeks, I'll hit 1,000 subscribers. This is a milestone many 'UA-camrs' pursue because it means your channel is eligible for monetisation. I started creating videos just for fun and got sucked into the idea that I should chase numbers, then stopped making videos because it felt like a pressure rather than ...

Combe Gibbet is on top of a ridge in West Berkshire, UK. SE Asia is nothing but a living hell for the locals. They are forced into prostitution at a young age, smoke, do drugs and drink from the time they are 5 years old and the tourists just walk on by caring about nothing but having a cheap 3rd world experience.

A very good video and balanced view. My advice to visitors: if you don't have Thai language you can use google translate. prices have gone up but most of this is due to the strength of thai baht e.g. 2007 65 baht to the pound and now 45. the baht is now loosing value against main currencies so these pressures are easing. Thai food is cheaper and much healthier than western food. They dont smile as much as they are so used to foreigners and some of them don't really behave very well. please read up about Thai culture and when in Rome do as the Romans do they will respect you for it.

First visit to Thailand was in '89. Major culture shock at all levels. Over time, Thailand has become a place I absolutely adore and will be forever grateful. Yes, Thailand has changed, but then so again has Aus. I feel safer in Thailand than in Melbourne! Carry a smile, respect the culture, don't be a dick and like anywhere, understand that the shit may just hit the fan. My experience thru my entire Thailand journey...you will be rewarded in bucket loads...not forgetting, It's an adventure so don't take yourself too seriously. 🙏

How funny. Pretty sure I stayed in the same apartment in La Casita in September last year. Someone told me today that they are starting to build on that vacant block of land now. Totally agree Thailand allows you to live a better lifestyle. I can afford to go out to dinner more often, I can go out drinking with friends and can actually afford a 'shout' or two. My groceries are cheaper and often more interesting. I can easily travel to different parts of Thailand cheaply. I hired a scooter once (I have my own now) and had a horrible helmet which didn't fit properly. I go pulled over and paid a fine. While I didn't like it at the time, I didn't lose any points and I wasn't breathe tested.

I am currently travelling around Thailand. Home for now is still Australia. I see pros and cons for both countries. My main dislike is the traffic in many areas of Thailand. Coming from Australia which is so overly controlled with road rules and then drive in Thailand where all road rules are either non existent or totally disregarded was a hell of a shock and I quickly became one of the moody and aggressive drivers but I am learning the Thai way and slowly calming down. The Thai people have all been wonderful. Warm and welcoming and always with the Thai smile. Honestly I find much of the rural areas to be undeveloped and somewhat messy compared to Australia BUT many of their shopping malls make the Australian shopping malls looking antiquated and primitive. I personally find Thailand a lot more interesting AND you generally only have a comparatively short drive from one place of interest to the next . One thing that really stands out for me is that even in smaller towns like Prauchap khiri khan I have found restaurants open until 02:00 in the morning. Late night chemist and doctors clinics. In Australia I have to book days in advance to see a doctor. Last night I needed to see a doctor and walked into an open clinic and got seen immediately. The cost of treatment was much less than what I would have paid in Australia and the doctor was able to fix an ear issue on the spot that the Australian doctor was unable to fix. Yes it is hot and humid so you simply do more indoor activities during the heat of the day and then venture outdoors in the late afternoon and evening. There is always an abundance of night markets to choose from. Don't fight the weather, work around it. I am here in Thailand from June to August in the "Rainy season". I have seen little rain and it has never altered my plans for each day. I have also found that the Thai people are far more likely to offer assistance when it is needed. In Australia I have found it to be a case of, "I'm alright Jack, F you" Yes there are a few bad points about Thailand but the good far outweighs the bad. Last point is that I have seen a LOT of infrastructure development on roads and railway networks so Thailand is going ahead at a good pace. In Brisbane the development seems to depend on where they can garner the most votes and money and has little to nothing to do with what the community needs.

Thailand culture today is more fictional,to impress western tourists. Tourism is Thailand main economy. Thailand today is adapted to western values, western law and order, western ideology. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I had all of your opinions back in the 90's when I first visited and chose to say in Thailand in the 90s. GENERALITIES: *Thailand is STILL great for hols* BUT the *purely* surface level superficial relationships are all you can expect from 99.999999999% of the locals. They're polite and that's a refreshing difference to the west but most should listen to "Smiling Faces' by the Undisputed Truth (do it NOW - it's a superb tune) on repeat on their flight out. As the song says, the truth is in the eyes! Thailand has massive (and misplaced imho) nationalist pride / xenophobia but they do hide it well. It's the opposite of New York where locals come off as rude buggers but often have hearts of pure gold beneath their exterior shells. I prefer straight shooters to snides but that's just me (and ofc it's also a generalisation - If you want to insult a weak man, tell him the truth...*and vice versa*). Compounding that problem is fact that the quality of expats is VERY low - the average is 'harmless scumbag' but there are also some very dangerous 'expats' there who are safe in the knowledge that they could murder you and, IF caught, could easily pay their way out of trouble (read up on the 'Red Bull heir driver' who got eggy in traffic and drove into a number of strangers inc a policeman and killed them - now free as a bird (obvs he's not an expat but same rules apply if you ever want to get away with manslaughter / murder :-) For all of these reasons the place is super transient - i.e bonds you do make don't tend to last - people die or move (I anticipate naive millys thinking, "yeah but that applies to everywhere" but if they have the balls to move they can test the theory as I DID : ) After a while you question the value of investing in relationships. RE: "cheap": rent is cheap & human labour is very cheap in Thailand (inc. the ladies which is a massive draw for many). However, if you buy anything made outside of the country (electronics, wine, quality products, etc.), Thailand can be very expansive due to BIG import taxes. You mentioned the heat - it's awful in hot season - it drains your energy and you often feel trapped inside as you might in the depths of a western winter. If you plan to work (digi gonads) don't assume you'll be anywhere near as productive. The food is delicious and cheap but is greasy, cooked in reused seed oil and lacks nutritional value - basically it's unhealthy. If you want decent western food you'll pay through the nose (hence the 'it's expensive" comments). Knowing millys, (imho often too cool for school know it alls) many will discount all these comments and, if they make the move, learn the hard way. Having said all of the above I'm still considering moving back out there permanently as *I know what I'll face* and see what is happening to this country (UK) aided by well meaning idealistic ('suicidally empathic') idiots who see no issue with ushering in millions and millions of g/immigrants forever who are transforming the UK into a mishmashed high tax / high free benefits economic area - it's increasingly no longer a nation - just a bunch of people who don't agree on anything other than to never cause any offence to anyone - let alone complete pee takers - in this respect Thai 'xenophobia' is a blessing. *Imho* at the moment quality of life is much better than Thailand BUT the UK has just elected a hard left socialist (own nothing & be happy?) government so, if you have done OK for yourself, look out! Anyway, apologies if this comes across as longwinded, blunt rude or whatever but it's 'my truth' so please wish me luck! Good Luck to you all, wherever and whatever you choose to do. PS. If you're condidering the move remember to listen to and meditate on "Smiling Faces' by the Undisputed Truth

Can buy 7 11 ready meals from 37 baht to 69 baht. I buy noodle soup and chicken for 50 baht in a nearby shop and 40 baht coffee next door in bangkok. Up country everything is much cheaper. It used to cost me just over 1000 baht a month for food living in amnat charoen in my wifes parents mansion which cost 3.7m baht to build. 10 bedrooms. Electric with aircon was 4500 baht a month. In that house. About 4000 baht a month in my 2 bedroom bangkok condo for electric with aircon all day and night.

I've been to Thailand 4 times. I'm not going to Thailand anymore and I won't go again. Because everything and all laws in Thailand. He is trying to rob tourists. There is no hygiene or cleanliness. It has a very bad climate, Thailand is a country that should definitely not be visited. Those who say that Thailand is cheap are lying. Thailand is not a cheap country. However, what bothers me the most in Thailand is that all practices and laws are aimed at robbing foreigners. In the middle I felt like a sucker and a fool. Because the whole system and the people are somehow trying to deceive foreigners. As a result, Thailand is not a place to live. Do not believe what vloggers who promote on the internet tell you.

Another thing I REALLY appreciated about being in Bangkok in particular were the reverse osmosis water dispensers that are on nearly every city block and neighborhood. I was amazed to be able to find good, clean, fresh drinking water for next to nothing. You bring your own container and fill up. In such a hot climate, water is Number One, especially if you don't drink pop or alcoholic beverages.
