If you’re a female you may not be do confortable with the toilet stops along the way, you do need to book in advance but it is almost instant to get the permits. It is the highest point in Spain and on a good day you will see all of the islands. The roads are fine, I drove the villa flor route in a right hand drive car without any problem,
Hello, I am planning to go up Mt. Teide on my holiday next month. Got a few questions: do you need to pay anything for entering mt Teide? And do you also need a permit to use the cable car? I'm planning to drive up there for astrophotography and I think the summit with the cable car is the best place to see the stars. What do you think?
Hi Neo, you will need to pay for the cable car, not to drive up to the base of the peak. No permit needed for the cable car, just a ticket. Because it’s been a while since I went, I can’t remember all of the details now to be completely honest. Hope this helps as best as possible
I tried to reach the summit last year but I began to feel really light headed and couldn’t make it. I’m going to try again this year but I’ll spend a few days at 2500 meters to adjust to the thinner air
@joshbonthemove hi I'm going tenerife in July, just wanted to know what are the chances of getting AMS at this height? How long would you need to stay at that altitude tomget AMS?? I'm a smoker and wanna if it's worth me going up there??? Any info would be greatly appreciated
@@danielpardoe2554 to suffer from AMS it would take days of you being at that altitude you might just feel a bit dizzy or sick if you run around up there or try to hike it from sea level in 1 day. but if you are just getting the chairlift up for an hour there is nothing to worry about
@@danielpardoe2554 it varies from person to person to how you respond but at this height you should be fine. Your mentality about it will probably be the most important thing so only do it if you want to/ feel up to it
I went to the summit back in 1990 , when you were allowed. Went back in 99 and went back , but weren’t allowed right to the summit. I was amazed how tougher it was to breathe just 8 years later. It was a fantastic experience both times. ( apart from watching Germany knock us out of the World Cup 😩) 👍🇬🇧.
Can you go up by cablelift only and walk all the way back down? Or are the trails not connected to the cablelift station area, and should tickets be booked for both up and down?
Do you mean you need the permit from the start of the hike at Montana Blanca or the permit is only checked at the top near the cable car (just before going to the summit)? Is it worth it to hike just to this point or would one be disappointed at not being able to go to the summit?
To answer the question about the permit. You can ascend on the telerferico providing you have paid the fare. However there is a policed barrier across the path to the actual summit and you have to present your Permissio and Passport or Identity document. If you do not have the permission they will not let you proceed! There is a way around it - legal, but very hard work. You can ascend on tbe teleferico in the afternoon, visit the Pico Viejo and Anaga miradors. Be aware the last run down is about 16:00 hours! Miss it and the next one is about 09:00 tomorrow - weather permitting! You are now able to ascend to the summit. Descent - two choices! You can stay overnight but need to be aware that even in summer it will be very cold as in below freezing! Or you walk out from the top station towards the Anaga mirador. Before you get to the mirador on your right is a track. That track leads down the flank of Teide. It is steep, and it zig-zags. Don'tcstray off the path as you will end up in serious trouble - as in being injured. It will take you about an hour to descend to the col with Montaña Blanca. At the col take the path to the left and walk around Montaña Blanca. then between Montaña Rajada on your left. You will eventually reach the road. If you left your car near the bottom teleferico station, you will need to turn right, walk along the road, go to your car, and sit in it all night long as the bottom barrier to the car park is locked - or you can walk along tbe road to the Parador, and you may be lucky to be able to get a room for the night!
If you flew north or south along tbe Meridian around tbe world passing over both Poles, you will not touch the ground, as Teide is the highest point on tbe meridian. It is the third largest island in tbe Atlantic. Tenerife is the world's third largest volcanic island. Teide is active - last eruption from the summit - about 850AD, last eruption on the island - El Chinyero in 1909. Historic eruptions - 1492 - Boca Cangrejo, 1704, 1705 - Siete Fuentes, 1706 Montaña Negras which destroyed Garachico, El Tanque and other villages, 1798 - Chahora or Narices del Teide which threw blocks about 5 km away, and 1909 El Chinyero. In 2003/4 an estimated 1x10^11 cubic metres of hydrothermal fluids were injected in to the volcano on the North East flank. Travel companies will tell customers you can take the Teleferico (Cable Car), to tbe summit - you can't. They also tell people it is extinct - THEN in tbe next breath tell them its last eruption was in 1909 (true), and its overdue! Volcanoes do not erupt to timetables. Will it erupt again almost certainly but when? That's why I used to walk up from Montaña Blanca to the summit three times a week checking various items of monitoring equipment. There again what do I a mere vulcanogist know?
You are right ,i live here and the volcano IS Alive ,and probably Will do in two years or so ,,but we are not afraid because if erupt Will do It for Icod de los vinos ,the rest of the island IS safe ,😊😮
@@joaquindiaz4730 The next eruption is expected on the Santiago Ridge, and to be similar to El Chinyero 1909, Chahora 1798, Montaña Negras 1706, Boca Cangrejo 1492 - that is Strombolian, with a 'small' volume of lava, and lasting about a week. Until then who knows?

Hope you get to go in the cable car this year. I went in as a wee nipper but can’t remember, been in them since and they’re a good experience once you get over the initial fear (I’m not a fan of heights usually 😅)
I'm not a fan of heights either tbh but I was intending to teide on cable car in march but my partner said she didn't want to go . Am definitely going later this year probably oct or not. Many thanks..
Great video, appreciate you including the details about the drive up. Big help for my upcoming trip there!
Thanks Adrian, glad it could help! It's an amazing place, enjoy!

Hi. We are going there in February. What's day temperature at the top of cable journey? Not sure what clothes to take
I’m not sure to be honest but they can get snow in the winter months on the top of Teide so I’d pack at least a jumper 👍🏻
A bit late possibly but it is very cold, a jumper and coat at the very least

Keep in mind that facemask is obligated on board of the cable car. Also best book the tickets for the cable car in advance.
That wasn’t enforced before when we were there but you’re probably right, agreed re pre booking. Thanks for the advice 👍🏻
Where the face mask is required I did not understand?

what about the third route from the north?
