i’m late to the convo but the strange thing abt Bud Light’s reaction was that when they tried to backpedal and retract their support for Dylan, they ostracized the queer community. fans of their products and even the right as a whole, would likely become forgetful abt why they were angry or just cease to care but they helped to perpetuate the conversation by belaboring their apologies. Even now, Dylan still faces harassment as a result of this ad but most people have forgotten besides the ppl that have been systematically oppressed and that subsequently had their support publicly retracted (LGBTQIA+ community). not only did they lose support from the right, they lost support from the queer community. the right has obviously more privilege and don’t have to be careful abt where they put their dollars out of concern that the companies they purchase from, are against them and their communities unknowingly. queer ppl have to be more picky bc these companies obviously have power bc money is power. they managed to ostracize both sides, where Nike didn’t, and saw a raise in profits after a few months. they failed miserably.

I have seen first hand how censored the American Media is since moving out of the country. People outside of the US have no idea what is actually happening in the country because of how good the propaganda machine is. For example in my media landscape a school shooting hasn’t happened since I left in 2022. I literally didn’t even know about the women dying of miscarriages until I went out of my way to research my state for the past election. I believe that if people outside the US knew what was going on the public would be so disgusted it would be seen as a 3rd world country and American can’t have that hurt their standing in the world

at 5:37, why are we so excited that a cishet man is on the podcast? i know it's played for laughs but poor kate for being the only woman here and being 'jokingly' singled out by two men just so that the cishet guy can be put on the pedestal. kate and ryan have both worked very hard to be where they are in their respective careers and to be privileged enough to come on this podcast. it feels like the expectation is that the woman shows up and so she doesnt get the same sort of acknowledgement. everyone should show up for important discussions about things like this, giving cishet men the extra pat on the back that they think they deserve when participating in these conversations only legitimizes their need to interact with politics and intersectionality to be different and admired and given special treatment by poc, non men, and queer folks.

I briefly returned to Tim Dillon, Joe Rogan, and Red Scare to hear their thoughts on Luigi Mangione, and they were all so bad. These podcasters care neither about accurately describing a situation nor about changing anything for the better. All three said some version of, "The healthcare system in this country is messed up, and people are rightfully upset, BUT murder isn't the answer, AND universal healthcare also isn't the answer because we're a big country (so is Brazil, yet I had great healthcare there this summer), and Luigi isn't valid because he's rich and wasn't directly wronged by United Healthcare." Red Scare: add that he's a narcissist who wanted to be a hero. Tim Dillon: add that he's gay and slept with black guys according to a tabloid called Radar 🙄 so he's not a hero (internalized homophobia 💯). They’ve shown themselves to be nothing more than pessimistic entertainers who larp as down to earth but are just as invested in the system as classic mainstream media. More importantly, they can't recognize genuineness and virtue in people like Luigi because they themselves are completely ingenuine. Anyway, you both were a 'joy' to listen to and have a great rest of your holiday season!
