I am autistic, my take is that some of us (me included) simply stop caring as much as we can about some social norms, especially those meant to ease interpersonal connections. I am sorry, English is not my first language, I hope this is understandable. To me, Elon's autism didn't make him do an awkward gesture, instead made him do it openly and clearly. No regards of what someone should or shouldn't do in a certain situation. Then he added the sentence about "the heart" because he's not completely idiot, but knows that many people are. It's a power move that actually worked. So many people decided to doubt their own eyes
Yeah we have to remember not all autistics are psychopaths, but all psychopaths are autistic. With the lack of neural pruning and all. That’s how it works.
Totally! And let's not forget, the ultra right was attacking him, threatening to make sure he will be booted from the administration because of his visa stance, and now they are celebrating him. Seems calculated to me. SH for the ultra right, deniability for the gullible.

He basically said thanks to the people that brought him there, couple of nazi salutes so they know who he's talking about and then that he keeps them in his heart/gives them his heart. But so many people were saying it was something else, that I didn't know if it was a me-thing or not 😅
I think some people are confused and think this is like a genuine plea or something 😭 This is a reference to that one clip of the dude getting arrested going “Save me Donald Trump”.
I live not far from Matt in New Jersey and it's DAMN cold. The kind of cold that makes me worry even more about unhorsed people than I normally do. I hope literally everyone is able to stay warm (and alive) until spring.
Pertaining to what was said around 13:00, Fredda has an excellent video essay about Coca Cola collaborating with 1930s Germany. Capitalists will always side with fascism because it secures them more money.
The radio certainly made things worse but there was over 100 years of history leading up to that moment. Saying stuff like that flattens out the decades of dehumanizing rhetoric and the ways other countries enabled the genocide to occur. The podcast Lions Led by Donkeys has several episodes on the topic and if you want to deepen your understanding around how these things happen then i implore you to seek the episodes out and give them a listen
This is unfortunately very common even in current days. I mean Trump’s very first campaign also involved media manipulation for example. This is also happening in Europe as well. For example in Hungary the free television channels are all owned by the government and they broadcast Orban propaganda basically 24/7, etc.
@@MrFishperson this is def true, but I don't think they meant to say that radio was at fault for the genocide, just that when it was actually happening, radios were a tool to coordinate it
Ed explains is to succinctly and casually, it’s really grounding and orienting. I’ve been crying every time I think about my queer loved ones, my immigrant loved ones and neighbors. This episode calmed me down a lot and I feel so ready to fucking resist. Time to gum it up!!
This is 100% true. I’m trans* (so, extremely fruity) and I had to leave the USA because not only I am T, but a progressive activist and an attorney, and have been involved in public interest legal work regarding UAP/ET disclosure. Left my husband and my mom behind, but we evacuated me so that we could guarantee my survival. I miss them so much and am lonely and isolated where I am. But I know I have to survive for a higher purpose, so here I am. And here we are.
The bunker bit: the professional actually was telling the billionaries that collars and biometrics wouldn't work: they had to really invest in creating a strong relationship with the security guards BEFORE the chaos begins.
Pretty much the security team would take over the bunker. Even with a good relationship, they control the weapons and likely any security system. The whole thing would be a mess
Great episode. Billionaires are getting even more powerful now, and it's so important to stay connected during this time. Love you, and anyone reading this.
This might be hyperbolic, and it is admittedly, but this whole thing of people trying to gaslight me and others that Elon didn't do a nazi salute feels like that part in 1984, the 2 + 2 = 5 part of the book.
I know this episode sounds bleak, and it is. But i try to keep telling myself that these people, these billionaire, in the end do not have the communal support that a lot of us have. In the end what got man kind so far is our ability to cooperate. Exploitation will only lead them so far and indeed when they end up in their bunker alone with the fear of the people around them betraying them maybe they will realise how bad they fucked up. Slaves have freed themselves times and times again through out history. Freedom movements have prevailed, we just have to do it again. We can do this guys, i see your struggle and i see your kindness, we can do this.
I don’t get feminine energy from Elon, but I can’t say I get masculine energy either, nor any particular mix of the two. His vibe is more like alien that fell and hit his head on the way down from his spaceship that all the other aliens roll their eyes at because it looks like unfinished computer graphics from their Stone Age
I feel offended on behalf of the aliens. He’s more like a robot in a human skin-suit. Maybe the aliens made a bot and tossed it off-board cause it was malfunctioning.

Holy shit, towards the end, the bit about the discussion about bunkers and how to keep the workers in line... that's literally part of the villain story of the Horizon games and I hate that this bleak future seems uncomfortably probable given these tech guys and their messed up ideas.
I just don't see it working. The people who research preppers always point out that most bunkers don't have enough food. They usually don't have the means to make food. They would burn out in a year or two
Yeah, as things are now I don't think it could work. The Horizon games are set further in the future though I just realized "only" 40 years from now. But technology has advanced a lot by then and I don't see our real society get there any time soon.
@@raffaelm6558 Honestly, I think these people build these bunkers because...well, they want a bunker. They have so much money that they don't know what to do with it, so they build a bunker

Ed was a great guest! I really appreciate the insight into the tech industry. The way he literally predicted the way tiktok would not be banned is wild
Great podcast as always! It was darker than I had hoped for (he's usually more positive than me, not this time though...), but it was much needed. I hope for our allies to see this and understand our situations better! I cant help but thinking about this one statement over and over again: "Trans people are your canary in the coal mine". I've been shouting from the rooftops FOR YEARS, but IRL nobody cares. My family claims they support me (as a trans woman), but they neither heed my warnings, nor vote for my literal survival. Its effing absurd! "We love you and only want the best for you! We want you to succeed in life and be happy." vs. voting far right. Its so effed up...
I'm so, so sorry. That is beyond maddening. That they can't see how trans people are absolutely treated like the canary, and obviously too used as a distraction. The cognitive dissonance of that statement, "We love you and want the best for you" and can't say out loud that we vote for someone who will endanger all trans folks. Yuck. Yuck. But they are obviously not alone or unusual. I don't know enough about your family to guess how they manage ideas that these right wing fear-oriented politicians care about anyone's well being let alone that these right wing fear-oriented politicians care even a little bit about trans people.
This is what I keep trying to explain to people. Not trans, but Christian. But I can't seem to explain to my folks that maybe the church shouldn't be so happy to back the government seizing power to police people's ability to live their lives according to a personal internal revelation.
Currently a bunch of my political friends have been forced off meta as they were told "give us your birth certificate/passport or lose your account". We don't trust meta with that data so we're leaving our communities behind to protect our privacy

I am in the camp that skin folk ain’t kin folk because there are some people from your background who would throw you under the bus if it ensured them status or money
The saying is "ALL skin folk ain't kin folk." Most of us understand our shared experience and ancestry and what that means in the context of a country that loves to take out its frustrations on people who are different from them.

honestly, the philosophizing about life is one of the most relatable/humanizing traits of these people... but most of us channel them into after-hours rambles with a close friend or two, or maybe a book, and lack the eager machinery to deliver them on a whim to billions of minds
Matt, if you’re looking for guests to further contextualize the politics of everything going on, Emma Vigeland sometimes mentions you on ‘The Majority Report’. You two would definitely mesh well
I knew the writing was on the wall about a year ago when I made a (non-public) Facebook post asking if men could be better and show more accountability for their actions, which the algorithm then flagged as hate speech and banned me
The bunker part had my jaw on the floor, i would like to say that if we are gonna take horrible things from history (what sounds like a modern slave collar), maybe they need to remember that quillotines existed too, just friendly thought, for the nobles who where too out of touch wink wink (this might be a comical comment for all intents and purposes)
Business as usual? I hope so, but something tells me it's not. I watch the rise of fascism in the USA (I'm not American) and I wonder who's gonna stop them this time? And how? Who are the allies? I hope I am wrong and it is business as usual and things will be ok.

Yeah exactly (I’m also autistic)
Great point and well said. His mask is off, and it wasn't a good one to start with.
Honestly at first I was just confused, thinking it was me that was misreading something again, because I was clearly understanding that he was saying he had nazis in his heart. He basically said thanks to the people that brought him there, couple of nazi salutes so they know who he's talking about and then that he keeps them in his heart/gives them his heart. But so many people were saying it was something else, that I didn't know if it was a me-thing or not 😅
Luigi Mangione, if you can hear us, please save us, Luigi Mangione…😔
Friend, it would take a prison break in order for him to help. I think we’re doomed 🥹
He’s in jail.
I think some people are confused and think this is like a genuine plea or something 😭
This is a reference to that one clip of the dude getting arrested going “Save me Donald Trump”.
Stop treating him like he's the f*cking Joker bruh 🫠, it's wishful thinking and it's not really

7:04 this is basically what happened during the Rwandan genocide. Radio was used to great disclrd and coordinate slaughter
Same in Yugoslavia for it's civil war and subsequent massacre of Muslims
@@MrFishperson this is def true, but I don't think they meant to say that radio was at fault for the genocide, just that when it was actually happening, radios were a tool to coordinate it
And in the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar. Without facebook, it likely would not have happened
Pls lie to us more, where did you escape to?
Thanks for re- affirming my sanity! Sometimes it feels very lonely having common sence and being good to each other❤️😁🙏🏽
That's true unfortunately. That's why a sense of community is so important. Kindness is resistance.
The bunker bit: the professional actually was telling the billionaries that collars and biometrics wouldn't work: they had to really invest in creating a strong relationship with the security guards BEFORE the chaos begins.
A friend of mine works for a billionaire and his staff are already planning to sell the location of his bunker to the highest bidder.
Can't buy loyalty.
Pretty much the security team would take over the bunker. Even with a good relationship, they control the weapons and likely any security system. The whole thing would be a mess
Great episode. Billionaires are getting even more powerful now, and it's so important to stay connected during this time. Love you, and anyone reading this.
Ed was a fantastic guest to parse through this with us. Thank you. ^_^
This might be hyperbolic, and it is admittedly, but this whole thing of people trying to gaslight me and others that Elon didn't do a nazi salute feels like that part in 1984, the 2 + 2 = 5 part of the book.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.
I needed to hear this positivity rn 😭
I just keep telling myself that it has only been a week. Even the tech bros are in a sort of honeymoon period
Slaves freed themselves after hundreds of years of getting fked. We’ll all be long dead before this all this fascism begins to get better.
"Fork found in kitchen" is how I feel about everything that's happened in the last week 🙃
Same.
Ed Ongweso was also just on the Better Offline podcast and the coverage of CES they did. I'm shocked he's not on vacation after that marathon. Also, I'm like a proud dad seeing my son land these big names on his show. I'm actually being a little literal here; I'm really proud of you Matt for creating something that others take seriously. Great job!
I would love to see your guests In the thumbnail!!! I love your videos and you bring the best guests on and they are such an integral part of the show that I’d love to see them represented on the cover.
Hey Matt, I am binge-watching your pod and loving it. Could you put collaborators' full names and professions/job titles somewhere in the description box going forward? Thanksss
^^ seconding this! I would love to know more about Ed’s work
Oh my goddd the Julius Caesar bit was all just a big cope for his hairline!!! It all makes so much sense now. The corpos all got hair plugs but they don’t feel any more masculine so the world has to suffer 😢
I am in the mindset where I really don’t want to continue using these apps. Maybe that will change but right now I feel like they run my social life and decision making and that feels the most dystopian. I haven’t deleted any of them yet but I have hidden them from my home screen. It just doesn’t feel right for me to continue to use them if their CEOs actively support hate. Thanks for the great video as always! ❤

they all read plato and saw the words "philosopher king" and they took it personally, but ignored the bit about living simply and virtuously
i don’t think any of these idiots have read plato.
Also, they don't do any philosophy of note either.
they have almost certainly skimmed plato to look smart, and they think doing DMT is philosophy I assume, and they want to be kings ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not done yet and I'd never heard of Ed but I really like him so far. He's so knowledgable about the BS but also so cozy feeling. It's good to be thinking of this info when your brain isn't in flight or fight mode, and I feel like he has really good vibes.
Ed is a fabulous guest!!!!
It's so hard to listen to this and not feel completely powerless and hopeless. These guys are as close as it gets to having absolute power and they're using it to ruin people's lives and destroy the planet. Eugh.
There was also the death of suchir balaji who was a whistleblower of OpenAI who mysteriously died a couple of months ago , and his parents want a thorough investigation of his death. He is actually from the same place in the Bay Area as me.
honestly, the philosophizing about life is one of the most relatable/humanizing traits of these people... but most of us channel them into after-hours rambles with a close friend or two, or maybe a book, and lack the eager machinery to deliver them on a whim to billions of minds
If only they didn't do it at first year / philosophy 101 level. They are so poorly educated, it is embarresing.
I'll listen to this later, but the caption you use at release is just an awesome description on the current situation.
Matt, if you’re looking for guests to further contextualize the politics of everything going on, Emma Vigeland sometimes mentions you on ‘The Majority Report’. You two would definitely mesh well
It feels like we’ve officially entered a dystopian era
may the odds be ever in our favor✌🏻
It's cliché but humans have always been ass.
I knew the writing was on the wall about a year ago when I made a (non-public) Facebook post asking if men could be better and show more accountability for their actions, which the algorithm then flagged as hate speech and banned me

The Facemash DNA persists. I got off Facebook because it felt like it's M.O. was to make me feel like shit about myself constantly.
Yeah, I just felt like I was arguing all the time. I could never feel like I was doing enough and then Covid happened and people went insane.
The bunker part had my jaw on the floor, i would like to say that if we are gonna take horrible things from history (what sounds like a modern slave collar), maybe they need to remember that quillotines existed too, just friendly thought, for the nobles who where too out of touch wink wink
(this might be a comical comment for all intents and purposes)
Gamergate walked so these "tech bros" could run 😔

Elections have consequences. Our side lost. Now it is our job to survive, document, and help others where we can.
Business as usual? I hope so, but something tells me it's not. I watch the rise of fascism in the USA (I'm not American) and I wonder who's gonna stop them this time? And how? Who are the allies? I hope I am wrong and it is business as usual and things will be ok.

We’re fked. The “undesirables” will be enslaved, exploited, and pruned out of the gene pool until humanity is all white. The same way Neanderthals and other human species were wiped out by homo sapiens, capitalists will wipe out the humans who aren’t like them and who are unable conform to this system.

Just about to start listening to this but I will say I think our saving grace is that these guys don't actually frequently come up with good ideas. With liquid capital starting to dry up investment in new tech firms, and their newer projects ("X", metaverse, NFT's, etc.) not being big enough hits, I think we may be at peak tech bro. Sucks for us right now, a lot, but their time is limited because their businesses are so fad-based.
Unless we radically change our culture, and we won't, the new oligarchs will rise from the ashes of the old. Today it's tech Bros, yesterday it was oil bros, and before that it was the railroad bros.
@edwardallenthree, that's a fantastic example.
It’s so nice to hear intelligent people have a conversation about reality!
