Ditch The Clamps! You Never Used Masking Tape This Way Before
Use this Masking Tape and Glue Hack instead of clamps in those tricky situations that are too awkward to get a clamp on things. This handy little trick is something all woodworkers, carpenters, finishing carpenters, DIYers should know. It is especially handy when woodworking and running a cnc. if you ever needed to know how to hold a piece of wood or a board or a warped board down in a cnc when the vacuum doesn't suck it down then this works great. I used this in a project where I wasn't able to get my Epoxy River Table to hold down in the cnc because of a warp in so I used 2 part glue and masking tape to hold it down and it worked great. I also test using double sided tape to hold things and method also works. I also show some other ways to use this tape and glue hack to hold a laser level on a non magnetic surface, cutting multiple pieces at once, and fixing gaps in plank flooring or laminate flooring. hopefully this video is of use to you!

Thanks. Your ideas are interesting and I plan to use them
Awesome!
Great delivery! I live and die by this trick.
Thanks! It's a good one to know
What is the 2 part glue?
Good question! So stupid of me I didn't mention it once in the video. It's CA glue with an activator. I'm using a brand called Miter Bond in the video another common brand is fast caps 2P10, and I believe gorilla glue has one as well and I'm probably sure there's many more that I can't think about off the top of my head
It's not a 2 part glue. It's any ca glue and an accelerator. You don't need any specific kit. I use Zapp glue with whatever accelerator I can get at the time.
Looking good!
Thanks!
That was tremendous
Thanks!
I just use double faced tape to hold it in place until I can get the screws in.
That works too!
Just use a thin double sided tape.
Double sided tape is definitely an option (I've done this as well). Although Sometimes double sided tape won't work if the drawer box is sitting back from the cabinet frame. Or the drawer front is really heavy.
If anything, you need a thick double sided tape.
It would have been nice to see the actual town instead of all the roads and trails through the bushes.
Fair criticism. I remember intending to at the time but ran out of daylight that day. However.. I also wanted to showcase some of the area on the area around the town not accessible by vehicle. Thanks for the input, cheers.
Awesome !!!!
Great video !
Thanks!
I love this project, thanks! BTW if you didn't know, Woody Hyezmar made his Woodworking Bible at no cost, maybe it’s not to late to go’ogle his latest stuff since he's just looking for feedback.
Thanks!
Great tip, I use this method and it wors great. Simple, always the best
Awesome! Yep, nice and simple is the best.
Thanks! Just the tip I needed for my current cabinet project!
Nice! Let me know if it worked well for you.
Brillant! Wish I had seen this 2 weeks 32 drawer fronts ago🤙
Haha thanks! That's too bad, save it for the next 32 drawer fronts
Nice job.
Thanks!
You're a younger Bourbon moth woodworker! all you need is a intro i.e slid across the kitchen work table and some sort of amusing outro and a hat, cap or what every kids say these days!
Haha thanks! (I was going to say I might be older than the Bourbon Moth Woodworker, but I looked it up im not lol) Still a work in progress to format my videos in the most appealing way, but I'll get there.
Excellent tips for installing dreaded top front. Sticky fastcap as spacers👌🏽
Thanks!
Im confused, wheres the never before seen method? It wasn't the screw poking out of the draw was it? Thats been around since people started putting draw fronts on there draws
Apparently, it's been around longer than this video. But non the less still a great way to install tricky drawer fronts!
just the tip i needed. I'm a DIY homeowner and I have a RTA inset cabinet kit I ordered and the vertical pullouts have been giving me some grief, this is the perfect solution!
Awesome! This should work for you, it has for me when installing vertical pullout.
Thanks!
Hope this was of use to you!
Pretty cool trail. Thanks for sharing
Thanks! It's a neat area. Always fun to find trails and go for a ride whenever I can!
great video....excellent commentary on the area. Went to school in Sturgis ...now live in Australia. Cheers
Thanks for the kind words! Definitely new to commentary in this video and probably lots more I could have said about Sturgis and the area. But hopefully, this brought you a little taste of home in the down under!
2500?
A solid guess! I wish I would've gotten that
Very nice
Thanks!
Quelle horreur.
Je suis d'accord
Does that tracing trick still work if the degree angle isn't 90? Like would it still work if the degree was 130 or 10?
Cool thing about it is that along as you could hold the boards at the exact angle you wanted them at, it will work. However, when you're overlapping the boards on the angle, you want the ends would have to be either 1st cut at an angle or run them past if it's already cut at 90 degrees... I wish I could post a picture on my comment because it would make more sense than me explaining it this way haha
Rip down pieces of pine and fill the gap. 🤦🏼♂️
That's definitely an option when things are really out to lunch... however I wouldn't want to do that if it was prefinished trim you are working with. It's not so bad to do that if you will be painting afterwards. Just my thoughts
@@Ashton1andonlyI don't disagree I'm shocked nobody has made a tool for trimming down extended jams in place. 🤔
Ok if it's an old home.
@@nedcramdon1306 well it doesn't happen in new ones
I definitely see this more in older homes... but sadly, I've run into things like this in new builds. Mostly around windows. It's common to see the windows slightly inset from the drywall about an 1/8" or less.. with those dimensions, it doesn't warrant cutting a piece to extend the jamb... So this technique works great for keeping the trim tight to the wall and jambs while also keeping the miter tight together.
The missing step! Thanks.
I think so, especially when you need your cuts to look spot on!
Good idea!
Thanks!
🤯
Thank you, I have a project coming up that the information/ tutorial you just gave will be very useful. The for the video, I appreciate it.
Thanks! Glad this is of use to you!
Just a side note and said with greatest respect: LOOSE THE BACKGROUND RACKET (MUSIC). It's not needed and only diminishes the quality of an otherwise very well done instructional.
Thanks for being respectful and giving me positive constructive criticism. I actually really appreciate feedback like this as it helps me make editing decisions in my videos moving forward... As a side note, I was waffling on using the background music...
@@Ashton1andonly Back in the late 90's the school district I was working for had weekly training sessions on how to use the 'new' audio-visual technology that came at us full speed ahead. As a high school vocational teacher this training was exceptionally useful. Nothing fancy, but just the basics on how to construct quality lessons. I am by no means an expert I just picked up a few things that made my teaching more powerful and effective. Thanks for your response. Take care and stay safe.
A secret? Cutting them both to the same degree is a _secret?_
Not a secret. A "turn of phrase" however cutting them to the same degree isn't quite correct... check out the video and see..
A much easier way, a you only have to mark the miter on the wide board: Mark and cut the wide board and place it against the fence like you did with the board cut at 45°. Set the saw to 90° and press the narrow board against the cut on the wide board, and slide it so the blade meets the corner and make the second cut. Two benefits: Firstly you don't have to line up the wide/guide board exactly with the blade, and secondly you are guaranteed that the two angles add up to exactly 90°.
That's a great suggestion!
great idea!
Thanks!
We just cut shim shapenin a board place other board in it and run threw table saw way faster
Cool!
Once you set up the mitre saw for the angle you could have put a stop block on the right side of the blade and gone very quickly, you could also make the shims longer than the width of your stock, but less than the saws cutting width. The table saw method at the end with the extra holding block was overkill, you could have just used the push stick to hold it against the blade and gotten more than one or two shims out of the tail end. Other than that, great way to make your own shims.
Good suggestions. Thanks for the input!
Wow!!! Very good and simple ideas.
Thanks!
GLUE? or just use a hand saw easy ......
That's not a secret. It's well known and there are many UA-cam videos on the topic.
Turn of phrase... I would say that most, if not all, UA-cam videos on any woodworking techniques are nothing new and have been covered in serval different ways. But hopefully, I explained this in a way that helps someone out if they come across this scenario.
I use the math of 90° while figuring rafters and stair stringers. Good video 👍🏼
Thanks!
The safe way is to have two pieces cut at 45 degrees, one to the left as shown, one to the right both meeting exactly where blade kerf will be. . . .
That's a great option!
Great tip, I will be using your idea. Thx.
20 strokes with a 12-ppi crosscut handsaw would do the trick. Power tools are nice, but sheesh, don't forget the beauty of a handsaw for four 58-degree cuts in thin material. Relying on sticky tape to keep the wood from sliding on the chop saw is crazy, to me.
That's a good point... one I missed in this video I see. Hand tools can be a great alternative to power tools and in todays age, often overlooked...
Great demo
Thanks!
Your channel caught my attention by showing your techniques of both the Miter-saw and bring two pieces of trim together of different widths to form a 90 degree angle. It’s also cool to see you’re a Mountain biker also. The difference is my wife is into MTB also but on occasion she’ll let go ride with guys without her. Keep up the good work. I’ll be viewing your other videos. Thanks
That's awesome, that means alot thanks! I have more videos in the works just trying to carve out some time to edit them. My wife doesn't quite have the same passion for MTB as I do, although I can occasionally get her out if it's a pretty mellow ride, lol. Although unfortunately for me and and luckily for her, we live in some pretty flat prairies, so finding some downhill can be a bit of a search for me haha
@0:45 Marking it freehand the 2 sides may not be exactly at a right angle. I would line up the 2 pieces with a L-square and overlap the ends.
Yep, that would certainly help to keep things square.
Instead of measuring twice, you could also know that the two angles must add up to 90°.
Someone didn’t watch the whole video 😂
Instead of making a jig for the high angle, why not just adding a spacer to the left?
