  • This is the Easiest No Caulk Method for Fixing Trim or Casing Gaps against the wall. Are you a finishing Carpenter or DIYer working on a weekend project? Have you ever ran into a problem when installing casing or wood trim? Is the problem that your door jamb or window jambs are not flush to the drywall? What you will notice is if your door jamb is sticking out past your drywall and you go to nail your casing on your once nice and tight mitre will want to open up when you push it against the wall. So then what, should you caulk the gap? what if the gap is really big, more than likely the caulking will eventually crack making your wood casing install look like garbage after you spent all that time. Or what if your Window or Door Jamb is sitting back from your Drywall? How do you install casing or Trim then? Is this every Woodworkers worst nightmare? Not at all All you will have to do is cut a compound Miter on the Miter Saw with a simple Shim or Spacer saving you precious time, and that's how you get nice tight meters on badly installed doors or windows.

I think so, especially when you need your cuts to look spot on!

Rip down pieces of pine and fill the gap. 🤦🏼‍♂️

That's definitely an option when things are really out to lunch... however I wouldn't want to do that if it was prefinished trim you are working with. It's not so bad to do that if you will be painting afterwards. Just my thoughts

      @@Ashton1andonlyI don't disagree
I'm shocked nobody has made a tool for trimming down extended jams in place. 🤔

I definitely see this more in older homes... but sadly, I've run into things like this in new builds. Mostly around windows. It's common to see the windows slightly inset from the drywall about an 1/8" or less.. with those dimensions, it doesn't warrant cutting a piece to extend the jamb... So this technique works great for keeping the trim tight to the wall and jambs while also keeping the miter tight together.
