  • Driving from Alberta to Saskatchewan through Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park. Everyone always says that driving through the prairie provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba on the Trans Canada Highway #1 is so boring…but little do they know that if they would take a slight detour off the Trans Canada highway they would soon realize this isn’t true. Yes, the route on the #1 is boring, but if you have a little time, take a detour and drive through Cypress Hills. There is an amazing little back road that you can take from Cypress Hills East Block in Saskatchewan to the West Block in Alberta by Elkwater Lake. This is arguably one of the coolest roads you can drive on in all of Canada. This route will take you high on top of the Plateau. and through valleys where you will be able to stop along the way and see some amazing views of the prairies from the highest point in Saskatchewan, and also, the highest point between the Canadian Rocky Mountains and East Coast. We did this drive on our way home from Calagary and stopped along the way by a famous fossil feature and outlook point called Conglomerate Cliff before passing by Fort Walsh and back into Maple Creek. There is lots to do in this area if you have the time such as camping, canoe and kayaking, Boating, visiting historic sites such as Fort Walsh, ziplining, downhill, and cross Country Skiing, hiking, Exploring, and much more... there is even some unusual rock formations called Mystery Rocks that could even be clues of a past advanced ancient civilization...
