Video Interview with Dr. Ann on inflammation: • EVERYTHING You Need to...
Joint supplements can be helpful in managing arthritis pain but they aren't all created equally. Supplements are a great thing to do exactly that, "supplement" other pain relieving strategies. They aren't the end all be all of arthritis pain relief but can absolutely be helpful. There are 3 joint supplements to try and one to potentially avoid. For all supplements, consult your doctor first before adding any into your routine as they can interact adversely with certain medications and health conditions.
Turmeric, fish oil, and vitamin D can be extremely helpful at fighting and reducing inflammation. Be aware of the joint compounds or combination joint supplements because these contain varying degrees of ingredients and may not be the most helpful. In order to determine the effect of joint supplements, it is usually recommended to try for at least 1 month to see if you notice a difference. If you don't, there are other avenues to explore and supplements may be a waste of time.
It is worth noting that anything we can derive from the natural earth is recommended over needing a supplement for it but there are some instances where supplements can be very beneficial for osteoarthritis.

Turmeric was a game changer for me. I didn't feel like I noticed a difference when I took it - what I *did* notice however was the spike in inflammation when I STOPPED because I didn't think it was working. Three times I've stopped, and each time, within 3 days, massive inflammation. I didn't believe that a spice could make a difference until I saw it working. Hard recommend on trying it 👍

as with all other supplements, some have success and some may not experience relief. Glucosamine/Chondroitin has the potential to help with inflammation and joint pain. This is one of the brands that has been approved by ConsumerLab: amzn.to/3vSachf. As always check with your doctor first though to make sure it doesn't interact with any medications you may be taking or health conditions.

I would add that the fish oil should be a high EPA fish oil that is independently tested by a 3rd party lab for purity (low arsenic, mercury levels etc.). I note that you have linked to a higher than normal EPA fish oil, but in my experience high EPA fish oil should give at least 1500mg of EPA per tsp. I also think that if it can be tolerated a liquid fish oil is generally more cost effective.

I believe that Vit D needs the cofactor of Vit K, and fat based.
Many Supplements do better when combined with their co factors. As Vit D is fat soluble it is best Absorbed with fat intake. I am no doctor. That is just what I found in my own research. Best wishes in your search.

Hi Geraldine! I am glad that you are pairing K2 with your D3, but I will share with you a more important reason to pair them that I have come upon in my reading. So D3 will increase your uptake of calcium from diet or supplements. That calcium can go to bones, teeth, and unfortunately your arteries in the form of plaque. From what I have read, the beauty of K2 is that it will direct the calcium where you want it and prevent it from going to your arteries.

@@arthritisadventure hi Dr. Kuhn, I know this video and reply is a year old but can you please recommend some other supplements? The fish oil and vitamin D supplements are practically sold out 1 bottle left for this fish oil and 2 bottles left for the vitamin D. Also can you recommend some that's not so expensive please? I'm on a fixed income. Thank you!

@Sammi K 3132 turmeric has high oxalates if you are eating a lot of oxalate veggies it causes kidney stones. Stop all high and medium oxilate foods and drink lemon water and ACV with a tablespoon of olive oil in the morning on a empty stomach. Also there is a supplement called stone braker that works well.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and been on prednisone for 20 years. I know i need to sup my immune system but also it stops my pain.
I need something safer for my pain. And my pain is very severe. And no narcotics, they don’t even work
I’ve been on turmeric and fish oils… didn’t do anything

    *Important Note:*
Tumeric as a spice should be taken with black pepper for absorption.
Vitamin D3 (vs D2) needs to be taken with K2 to assist in effectiveness as well as with something fatty (nuts, butter)
