@@tr6151 didn't the doctor say #3 stop taking anti inflammatories? I think that's what he said, can't remember exactly. I did stop taking them. The doctor also said (if I remember correctly) you will then develop scar tissue. And that makes everything work and feel better. I'm 100% for a year now. And this is the second time I've gone through this process of injury to healing. Because I twisted my knee again, two years ago. It was hard and painful to do everything but I had to. I have 30 stair steps to my door. I did IT, core and glut exercises. A few a day. I did other exercises, like yoga and stretching. No didn't change my diet. But when I retired (@60) (also 60 is when it stated) I slowly lost a little weight. 10 or 15 lb. Weight has a lot to do with it. I was only told I had arthritis and sever loss of cartilage. I will need a knee replacement. That scared me and I got busy with PT. And I only did PT with a therapist for a week, got a list of exercises and did the next 6 months at home. I feel very lucky so far. Everybody is different. Good luck. And do more research and reading on the subject, so you can make your own informed decisions. I wish you wellness!

Hi, I appreciated your video. FYI I had allergic arthritis years ago that came up very quickly. I could no longer climb stairs, but had to sit on the steps and go up backwards. I could no longer drive. We changed vehicles so my knees wouldn’t have to bend and so I could hold my knees because they jiggled so much. A friend gave me a book by Dr Mandell (or Mandrell) with the words allergy and arthritis in the subject. As he treated allergies his arthritis patients improved. I was able to identify the allergy: amalgam fillings. I told the dentist I was allergic to silver, and he told me I would probably be just fine. Well, obviously not after several years! Once removed and replaced by resin-based fillings which are stronger by the way, the arthritis started to heal and a lot of other nagging problems like numbness in my face started to go away. Sooo happy to have read that book that a friend gave me to read!! I know that pain of not being able to sleep, not even to tolerate a sheet or pant legs.

I'm a dancer. We always wrapped our knees to keep them warm. Now that I'm older, I still do. I stay flexible and even with slight inflammation, I'm still able to do liw step aerobics to stay limber. An odd experience when I fell years ago released all the tension from my bad knee and now I have absolutely no pain. I thought I had broken my knee so I rested for ten minutes before I tried to get up.
Shocked to find that nothing was broken and that cracking sound was no less than the knee popping back into place, like cracking my knuckles for relief, amazingly, no pain for years!! I walk half hour every day. Go downstairs backwards leaning into the steps, to keep my buns in shape and not fall down steps. Odd, but it works and keeps my elbows elongated and my knees don't have to support my weight forward.

I was diagnosed with severe arthritis in my neck 10 years ago. The doctor mentioned surgery to have plates put into my neck but suggested physiotherapy first.
I have always exercised and at the time was training as a yoga teacher. The physiotherapist gave me some exercises and mentioned that my fitness level would be beneficial to the management of my condition.
Since being diagnosed I have continued strengthening and mobilizing my neck, with an awareness of my alignment and posture. I never suffer from pain in my neck now, despite remembering how degraded my vertbrea and discs looked on the X-ray.
I truly believe gentle stretching to release tension in the soft tissues around the joint alongside strengthening the surrounding muscles to support the joint, is the answer...

Thank you now I understand the phrases my neck and right shoulder went through for 4 years. Daily inflammation is now gone.
I read for women in pre menopause that it’s important to build as much muscle as they can before menopause. I don’t know why, but I’ve made it a goal to avoid as much joint pain as possible. I had a phase for 6 months where every joint hurt just before my neck healed. Seemed to correlate with high triglycerides. I don’t know why either.
I appreciate explanations of how things work and just subbed. Prevention is always a good goal after experiencing chronic pain for years. I never stopped my daily stretching reminding myself damage and injury takes years and to pace myself for healing too.
Hope my gut will heal from many anti inflammatories. Nutrition is definitely a factor in speeding healing in 3 months what took a few years.

Thank you for all the information you share. Actually, I've learned more from these videos in the past month than in the several the years I've been dealing with bilateral knee arthritis. With walking, I'm good for short distances, but the pain ramps up after that. I was in misery last month on vacation that involved airports and lots of walking. Although I had a great time, couldn't wait til I got back home. It was very humbling to be pushed in a wheelchair at the airport (but much needed), as well as in a wheelchair in a casino during the vacation. Don't want to be in a wheelchair again, but at the same time, there's no way I could have walked that distance or been on my feet for such "long" periods of time, either. I'm following my gut feeling on taking Aleve or Motrin to help with the pain, and realized the meds really do next to nothing for my pain, so I stopped them a few days ago - and oddlly, I feel good and the pain kinda feels less. I'm very conscious about how I move (no pivoting), how I walk, walk down stairs or downhill, and avoid uneven surfaces.

That wheelchair service is the best! I could not do airport without it. Not only, the walking would be too painful but they know where they are going, and you get priority in every lines. Don't be ashamed to use this service. I am not.

When I was dealing with back pain, over thirty years ago, my best friend's dad said, "Just remember, Jean...surgeons don't make any money unless they do surgery." That is true with SOME surgeons. I remember a former neighbor who visited a surgical practice out of town. Surgery was advised. She had the surgery, which did not help, so it was advised to have another, and four surgeries later, she had to undergo an implant of some kind to deal with the pain. I never understood the issue, but wondered if it was an emotional thing. Pain can make people desperate. Finding the least invasive solution can be easier than we think. Never panic...stop and consider alternatives. It sure paid off for my knees.

I am doing pt for my pseudogout knee arthritis. The people I work with always ask if it hurts when I start an exercise. If I say yes, they tell me to stop so I was glad to hear you talk about that and happy to hear that my therapist feels as you do. I have found that when I do glute work and also concentrate on my posture, my knee does feel better. My hope is that I haven't damaged the knee too much already and can resist getting knee replacement. Thank you so much for doing these superb and knowledgeable videos! I have been a bit depressed about the knee pain but you have at least given me hope and some tools to use that indicate that I may be able to stay away from the surgery.

Hey Karen, glad you have found our advice helpful and it has helped your knee pain! You can definitely resist knee replacement as long as you make your glutes the primary muscle in as many motions as possible. You should use them all the time! If you do, you can very well allow your body to heal and avoid the knee replacement.

Aches and pains. 3 years ago I cut sugar and carbs out of my diet. No takeout food. Cook at home. I Only eat fats and animal proteins, some cooked veggies for fibre. No fruit. I drink beer and smoke cigarettes. The aches and pains are gone now for 2 years. At 50 I feel I can climb walls. Im Working in mechanical and electrical field. Relatively physical work. It was suggested a knee replacement a couple years ago, Walking alot was absolutely the worst thing for my knee but I couldn't help it because of my job. I have since been able to NEARLY ( not totally) eliminate my knee pain, Here's what has continued to work for me. I've done this all together at one time so I can't say which has worked the most
1, DRINK lots of liquids (intra workout, post work out) ,and especially WATER
    2. I take types 1,2,3,4,5 COLLOGEN POWDER (It's all combined into one product) mixed in my drinks
    3. I always trained legs ( squat, hack squat, leg press, leg curls ) but put more emphasis on doing lots slow and controlled LEG EXTENSIONS but not as heavy working sets,
    4. At my gym I'm lucky enough to have a stand up RED LIGHT BED which I use everytime I go to the gym, about 6 days per week,
    5. I regularly take OMEGA 3 FISH OIL
    6. I try NOT TO KNEEL ( like on the floor) as much as possible.
The combination has worked for me,,If I had to guess I'd say my knee is 85 to 90 % better than it was...Best, Steve

I am a survivor of Psoriatic Arthritis, and in the first year of its onset, I was bed ridden for months. So much pain and swelling in my knees, it took the Doctors ages to diagnose, but eventually they put me onto 20mg of Methotrexate (once a week) certainly eased the pain and the swelling, but I hated how you had to have a blood test every month or so to check the meds were not damaging the liver. After a few years of being on it, I weaned myself completely from the drug, and changed my diet to an anti inflammatory diet, and started taking MSM daily. I walk and exercise most days, and feel fantastic. My knees are still an odd shape (probably some calcification) but I am so grateful that I can walk miles without pain anymore. I have been off the meds now for four or more years, fingers crossed it won't come back.

I took glucosamine 1500 mg daily and within a few months, the knee was healed. Still works great. Most of my friends, even younger ones, have artificial joints. I notice all the ones that work out at the gym on those machines end up with joint replacement. I keep thinking it's repetitive motion. I have a 'lazy meniscus' in my right knee and issues with my SI joint. I found El Paso on YT a couple of years ago. I swear by him and compliment his exercises with those by the Seniors specialist physio at HT Physio also on YT.
My osteo checked out both sites and approves.
Both of them have exercises that are very doable and stackable as you improve and remind you constantly to listen to your own body and its needs. I use them alongside walking, sea swimming and add on the Fabulous 50s YT workout exercises.
I have no need for expensive gym membership at all.
The only time I now have trouble with my knee is when I stop doing exercises for a few days due to long haul flights or illness.
At 61, I'm fitter than I was at 41 and my knees and back feel good.
Gyms do not cater for the over 60s, especially if, heaven forbid, we have not been a gym junkie all our lives tsk tsk. They just have no clue about the different needs of seniors. It's one size fits all.

Weakness in the gluteal area will also expose weakness in your core stability development too and believe it or not ,incredibly awesome person your core strength &stabilization also involves your Keagle muscles, muscles that are used to control waste elimination: #1 (potty).
I would be developing your scapulo-thoracic strength and stability of your upper back and to stabilize your core muscles which involve your transverse abdomen inner and outer obliques ,quadrates lumborum ,gluteus
maximus ,gluteus minimus gluteul mobility, strength in your hip stabilizers. There are an abundance of them Adductors are most neglected part on the human body most importantly developing your glutes In isolation.
If you’re doing exercises and your medial hamstring muscles start cramping the exercise you were doing is being dominated by your hamstring muscles not your glutes try internally, rotating your leg as you do, exercises like reverse glute raises, even your side leg rays try to internally rotate the hip/the femur bone as you lift your leg backwards.

How refreshing to find this. You give hope to those who want an alternative to replacement. I just turned 50 and I was told i qualify for a right knee replacement 😳
No way. Not yet and ideally, never. I was wondering what you think about the idea of a shoes with almost no support. I’ve been suffering from chronic pain that started bilaterally and acutely last October. About 5-6 weeks ago I decided to stop wearing my clogs (supposedly good and supportive for feet) and change to ballet flats after reading a few stories and articles on using the foot muscles correctly. Since then, (on top of cycling more and consciously strengthening my glutes and calves/shins/ ankles more and returning to some VERY gentle yoga as well as lineament and arnica regularly) my knees are finally starting to feel sustained and marked improvement.
Ironically, my right knee was always the problem child and feels much better though the right ankle seems to have some stiffness, but the left knee that didn’t hurt until last October is still more inflamed/slower to repair. Thoughts?

Some home truths in this video. After less than 30 minutes with my knee getting worse I threw the exercises the doctor gave me in the bin. I was on a high dose of co codamol. I seriously thought my active days were over 8 years ago. So 5 years ago on my retirement I set up my own goals starting with moderate walking with walking poles and building that up to longer. My daughter gave me a knee support and I wore that on and off depending how my knee was (pain/ache). Whatever I did must have worked in strengthening the muscles around the knee. So fast forward from 5 years ago. I can run up stairs and down. I can manage a 10 mile walk. 3 years ago I started caving and potholing again. I'll be 70 in July. I haven't taken a co codamol in 5 years and years ago I did away with the knee support. I do take a cod liver oil, turmeric and boswella serrata supplement. Supplements don't work for everyone but the boswella certainly worked for me. I don't put pressure on the knee joint - lifting something heavy, standing on a ladder for any length of time or sitting in a kneeling position. Yes I've learnt to read my knees and know when to rest them and not over do it but 99% of the time or even a 100% of the time I am pain free and active. So it can be done!

There is a time when I like to feel aches. It is the day a after exercising. I begin to use that muscle, and I feel a slight ouch, and I love it, because I know I hit the right muscle. Since you helped me ditch my meniscus pain, I am concentrating on glutes and toes, to help me walk stronger. I still cannot believe that pain is gone, and I can actually press that touchy meniscus spot on my knee, without pain. I will definitely encourage my husband to do the exercises for knee arthritis, as he has complained of knee pain, and I don't know why, but his mom had many issues exacerbated by fallen arches. Thank you again for my NEW knees. My husband had colon cancer surgery, and I encouraged him to use an electric cart, so now, I have to keep up with him in the store. LOL

I am a retired Medical Laboratory Technologist. When I listen to David, he makes send on so many levels. The healing process is spot on for hemostasis. And when you exercise, you need to make sure that the muscle targetted is the one being worked out. I had a torn meniscus and some of the exercises didn’t involve glutes…I now feel my glutes are weak and knee pain is back.

My wife had arthritis for years during her 30s. She changed her lifestyle and diet and no longer is on any of the medication's and injections she was taking to relieve herself of pain. Today, she does resistance training with heavy weights, does yoga and swimming. It's been over eight years since she's had to be on any arthritis prescriptions.

@@dynamicarpita Hello, My wife eliminated processed foods from her diet, avoids refined sugar, eats mainly organic foods and maintains hydration. Additionally, she started doing yoga, taking long walks (2 miles avg) daily and strength training. When she was diagnosed with celiac disease she stared a gluten-free diet. I'm not sure if the gluten-free diet contributed to eliminating her arthritis, but, I do know it cleared up her digestive issues over time (Micro colitis). We also reduced going out to eat and began cooking healthier entrées at home. I will circle back with more specific information after I speak to her. 🙏😊

Ok I want you to be right (I'm probably in early knee arthritis - yet to visit a doc). I've seen a few of your videos and am following your advice. I'm doing "swinging legs" and "butt cleft" exercises. You seem to be right about walking. I can ride my bicycle for hours and not notice my dud knee but walking can be unpleasant. Massaging the knees seems to help too.

Dr. David, Thanks for discussing the three secrets quite clearly. I had a total knee replacement surgery a year ago. I was instructed to do exercises to strengthen the muscles around the knee and improve the range of motion. They told me that it's fight against the scar tissue, which requires immediate action of doing the recommended exercises. You seem to suggest that scarring is a natural part of body's healing process. Won't scar tissues restrict range of motion?
Even after a year, I still have some pain, swelling, and stiffness in the operated knee. Although I had been doing glute exercises including bridges and clam shell, I was also strengthening quads and hamstrings, which is perhaps why I still haven't recovered from the knee surgery even after a year. Can you recommend a DPT in the Austin, TX area who was trained by you?
Thanks again. Keep up the great job you are doing in helping so many people like me. Good bless you.
    Best regards, Vishu

Thank you so much for this! I am recovering from a flare up of arthritis in my knee. Had popping and shooting pain with bending, then straightening, I thought I had a floater in my knee since I had not injured it. It just came on suddenly. Saw the ortho NP, he says it’s arthritis. PT gave me some gentle exercises that have helped. Arthroplasty is apparently in my future. But this gives me hope! I have always worked out with weights, glutes included, but I will try to focus more on them for a time. And I’ll watch the videos you linked for glute exercises. Thx! 😊
