    Alyssa tells you things other PTs never do. I have been sleeping really well in the last week and I've experienced much less arthritis pain. I never would have connected those dots. I'm also getting ready for a trip and want to drop 5 pounds so I've been eating more fruits & veg, bingo, another connection. I'm so happy I found her channel and have recommended it to others. I've been doing hip warmups, stregthening, using a heating pad which have all given me a significant reduction in pain and a better quality of life. The best content!!!

    I just stood in my kitchen while watching this video and did several back and forward walking steps, running my hand along the counter as I stepped. This way, I can feel secure stepping back and don't have to crank my neck or upper body around to see where I am going. This one stretch of counter is a good 10 feet long, so it makes for a nice little back and forth, short walk. Then, I go sideways across the kitchen from one side to the other to get in the sideways movement. It works easily for me! Sleep is a struggle for me, though. I have trouble falling asleep most nights before 1 or 2 am. I take 2 gabapentins for restless legs and have just today purchased some melatonin again. I have taken it before, and it helped. The gaba makes me sleepy after about a 2 hour window from when I take it, but even if I take it by 7 pm, I still may be awake at 2. I only do chicory root coffee in the evening if I do any at all. This will take some working on. The fruits and veggies aren't an issue, but I will start double checking myself at night. I found that years ago, prior to the double hip replacements, that a microwave heated sock of dry whole kernel corn can make a heck of a difference. That's been a go-to for at least 15 years. In the summer, it's harder, but then I may add a small fan if the corn bag makes me sweat!😂

    I started watching you a few weeks ago after seeing you on El Paso Manual Physical Therapy. I have learned so much and done some exercises I never imagined I could as a senior with osteoarthritis in left jnee from an injury decades ago. I am going to respectfully suggest you try something different w your hair. Especially with this camera angle and your dark shirt, flyaways are a bit distracting. Don't mean to hurt your feelings, but I think even just pulling your hair back or up or barrettes or headband would be a start to a more professional look. You have so much to share and I do think that would help.

    The point in mind making this comment is that this video is like maybe a year old or something, and I just found you a few months ago. And you are reiterating everything I have found in the small movements, by intentional small movements is so right on.
    Just had to say that I hope the people watching realize the tiny bits that are so critical in regaining movement and minimizing pain.

    Why does pain relief take so long? I've been going to therapy and consistently doing my strengthening 3-4 times a week and I only feel that I've made about a 30% improvement within the span of a year. It gets frustrating :(

    • @arthritisadventure
      @arthritisadventure  Рік тому +1

      This could depend on a few things. For example, are the exercises continuing to feel challenging and strengthen the appropriate areas? Other things can play a role in the degree of pain relief such as food, stress, sleep quality, how long you’ve had pain for, history of injury, etc.

    Dr John Bergman tells us that OA isn’t a disease, it’s not degenerative - it’s a problem with mal-adaption after an injury/injuries causing imbalances. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @arthritisadventure
      @arthritisadventure  Рік тому +3

      I would agree just with that snippet of information. I haven't listened to any of his talks. There has been a lot of research showing that severity of mechanical changes to the joint don't correspond with severity of pain experienced so there are other factors at play.

    Alyssa - are you aware of much research on dairy and how inflammatory it can be for the majority of people with arthritis?

    • @arthritisadventure
      @arthritisadventure  Рік тому +1

      “Sixteen studies (15 articles) included in this systematic review reported on healthy individuals and subjects who were overweight or obese and who had metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes. The consumption of milk or dairy products did not show a proinflammatory effect in healthy subjects or individuals with metabolic abnormalities.”

    • @arthritisadventure
      @arthritisadventure  Рік тому +2

      If you have any other research proving inflammation in connection with dairy I’d love to read it. Some can be more sensitive to dairy and/or have increased pain while others do not. It is not inflammatory for everyone from all the research I’ve looked at.
