it seems like a lot of people missed our last shikoku video. if you haven't seen us at a cool aquarium you are one of those people! check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/k_W16_hktZo/v-deo.html
you can also see my 7 year old video about curry rice here: ua-cam.com/video/fQXqJdZsDAQ/v-deo.html
thanks everyone!
I've started manually checking your channel every once in a while because despite being both subscribed and with the bell on, I seem to never get notified of anything anymore. So fair warning even the bell seems to not work properly anymore.
@@Zennovia96 Yea, it's frustrating. Clearly UA-cam is trying to purge content that's not made by super famous people off their platform. Thanks for putting in the extra effort to find our stuff! -E
asmr cooking with eric explaining how and why his curry rice is the best.. yes.. more, please and thank you! Great vid! :D
I looooove these vids so much, it's so comfy and cozy. And your place is so clean, lol!
That was a simple but great video! I'm a big fan of the homestyle cooking videos you guys do. Crazy to think how long you have now lived in Japan. Feels like I was just watching the moving and housing videos when you decided to live there. Excited to see what's next for K&E in 2020. 😁
Exactly!
Gosh, it's been AGES since I've watched any of your videos, didn't realize how much I missed them until I saw your face! XD Thank god that uni has started again, which means I need something to procrastinate with - gonna check out the previous series I've been missing out on~
Glad you're back! -E
Yayyy. Needed my kyde and Eric fix... Y'all are my favorite UA-cam people. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face😁
Thanks!! -E
Watched this as I was about to sleep. Now I must go downstairs and get something to eat. ☹️ .. 😂
Say hello to diabetes from me!
Nostalgic and fun, even for us who weren't in Japan at those times!
Thanks for the tip of the みそだし入り...that's pretty handy!
I had more *out loud* burst of laughter with your last "Steve Zissou" video!
I'll have to watch it again!
Loved it!
i LOVE these kinds of videos!
Glad you enjoyed! -E
I wanna see some homemade Japanese curry meal prep videos from you in your new kitchen Eric! It's totally worth the effort so you can eat like a king for a few days.
Step one: learn how to make homemade curry lol
This video reminds me of this song:
"You like tomato, I like tomahto, but Eric likes トマト!"
BTW, for the best rice texture (even if you plan to cast the rice into some shape), after the rice is done cooking, upon the first time you open the lid, you should give the rice some good stir. Some call it "fluffing up the rice". This will let the excess moisture to escape, thus not making the grains stick together. I believe it will also help to prevent the rice from becoming yellow over time. You may re-close the lid for the warm function afterwards. You only need to stir once per cooking session.
There are all sorts of rice tricks, some people say to cook it with ice cubes in the water! -E
Thanks for the curry packet tips! I just bought a cream sauce packet for the first time the other day to try. And a curry packet, which I was already a fan of. Now I know what I will do with them. Plus will be buying some mini tomatoes for my instant miso soup.
Enjoy!
HA omg. When you said the thing at the end about ASMR I started cracking up............because that's legit what I thought; thought you were gonna do the whole video in ASMR style XD :)
Your sink is so clean! I need to go clean mine now. Great video!
Hahahahaha, I scrubbed it before filming. -E
@@kydeanderic It's like when you normally are pretty messy but you compulsively clean right before company comes... except it's company in the form of a camera. (Maybe you're actually a tidy couple most of the time though...)
When I was living in Japan, I fell for curry rice. Not going to say it is my personal favorite, but it is fairly high on the list. I usually use boil in the bag curry too unless I 1) can get some curry roux and 2) feel like going through the effort of making it. Sometimes I sup up the bag curry by adding other stuff to it. I went back to watch you original video from 7 years ago. When you were talking about Indian curry, it reminded me of something I saw about original Yokosuka naval curry. According to the show, Japanese curry was most directly influenced by curry of the British imperial navy. So, the British took Indian curry and changed it some, and then when the Japanese got a hold of the British navy style curry, they reproduced that version, and over time it has been adapted and changed.
I just found you guys today searching for Scottish manor houses and I went straight down the rabbit hole. I make miso soup like that, but I add turmeric for the anti inflammatory properties and a few snips of nori. Definitely gonna add a couple cherry tomatoes next time. I like green curry best, but red is good as well. I also adore Korean cold noodles. So good! Loving y’all’s adventures so far. I lived in Okinawa for 18 months(military). Got addicted to Japanese/Okinawan food. That place is just magical!
Glad you found us and are enjoying! Enjoy those mini-tomatoes too! -E
This video was relaxing for some reason and bro that shirt. Much love : )
Glad you enjoyed! -E
This is an educational video for me :D Thank you for the nice video!
It looks delicious! I like to eat the p
re-packaged curry but I haven't tried both cream stew and butter chicken curry yet. Were they good? :)
Yea, the stew is amazing, especially for 100yen!
Great video Eric
You lost me with pickles for dessert.... now I like pickles, fried, sliced, pickle juice with tequila.....etc. but dessert. Hah great vids! Keep’em coming!
Do this again, this was awesome!
I visited Japan about 1-2 weeks ago and brought back about 11 of those packet mixes (9 of them curry). Your video makes me feel a little less crazy.
Haha, they are good! -E
At about 1 minute in I was expecting eric to start throwing eggs at everything in a HowToBasic style.
HowToEric
HAHA. Missed opportunity! -E
Looks like that your curry rice game is on point! 😂
@Kyde and Eric I found a recipe online for japanese curry made in an Instant Pot (Which if you don't know is like an all in one pressure cooker). It basically uses the boxed curry roux bricks, in combination with diced raw chicken, potatoes, carrots, onion, and a little garlic and ginger. Throw it all in and let it do its thing for about 15 minutes, open it up, stir and add any extra spices/sauces (i use Ketchup and Soy Sauce/Hoisin. It makes a nice big batch that freezes well and can be added to rice whenever the craving hits me. Great video man!
Sounds good!
Dam that was a close save withe camera at the end there!! 🤣
I’ve always wanted to try those little packets I mostly make my own since even Walmart over here sells the s&b curry roux. I make it standard but I always sub coconut milk for water in the recipe to give it more flavor it’s soo good.
Haha, yea, I cut out the "OH GODDAMN IT!" on that last bit as I assumed the lens was now full of curry. It hit the plate instead, thankfully. -E
I'm a professional chef who watches youtube videos about food all the time, and this is the video it decided not to put in my subscription box and then recommend to me three months later. I'ma have to try to recreate something like that red sauce at home. I'm already in love with stewey-gravy and rice.
My local grocery store has a bunch of curries in pouches like that. Most of them are indian style. All delicious.
Awesome, good luck!
You guys have a new rice cooker! What is the device you used to squeeze the content out of the packet?
Cheng-Fei Lai He just used his chopsticks to do that!
Yep, just chopsticks!
hi Eric! have you been to Coco Ichibanya? I know they have a bunch of them in Tokyo and they are really great for curry!!
Yep!
The beginning reminded me of your video you did traveling to chichibu, it’s one of my favorite videos haha
Yea, I intended for the same vibe here. The reception to that is sort of a love it/hate it thing so while I like it it's not something I will do tons of. Glad you dug it!
Curry looks yummy. When are we getting the new apartment tour?
Haha, good question. -E
Eric, I loved this video! Make more!
More curry?! Haha
@@kydeanderic Ah, that's true. :-D
By the way, I really liked how you quietly made your food before you began speaking. Very cool.
Thanks!!
Great vid!
Thanks!
That looks stunning😍😍😍😍
Awesome video!
Thanks!
It looks amazing. I would love to try that do you know if they sell that stuff on Amazon if so what is the name of it?
No idea, I'd just try looking for "curry rice packets" or something along those lines. Could try an Asian food import store if you have any nearby too. -E
@@kydeanderic thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. I will definitely give that a shot thank you so much for the video
i hope you are both doing well! i was wondering (Eric) do you think you could translate into english what kind and brand you used so i might be able to find it here on the east coast in the states? last curry i had was the first time i ever ate any and i only ate 3 spoonfuls and the last spoonful i only ate half.
Your best bet is probably just going to be to find a japanese curry of some sort. What I get is the supermarket store-brand packets. You might have luck just checking Amazon for Japanese curry.
My Zojirushi water boiler plays Bach's Minuet in G major❤🐘
Wonderful!
If it wasn’t for your last packet curry video, I wouldn’t have known when living there, that made me discover Hokkaido cream stew, which I am so ever grateful.
Nice! -E
What's your opinion on CoCo Curry Ichibanya? And what number spice-level can you tolerate?
It's....ok? You are better off finding some old folks that run a little local curry shop that is popular with local people in that town. I don't really eat super spicy food anymore. -E
You should do more of these Japanese budget meal videos. It would be cool to try them over here in England.
I don't cook much else, hahaa. -E
Ah man. I miss the electronics that sing to you. I bought a 電気ポット last time I was in Japan that played a Beethoven snippet when the water was boiled... but it eventually stopped working. I had to replace it but I could only find a Chinese model in my area. No lovely song. 😔
Also, I love that you guys are going through your old videos and throwing back to them. Very fun. And
I like the "snack size" videos while we wait for the longer adventures.
Haha, no song is no good!! Glad you are digging the shorter videos too! -E
*drooling*
It's gorgeous to eat curry and white stew at one time. Even though each packet is cheap but you're super rich! haha
I actually get those curry packets at an Asian market here in the Ozarks and do something similar. I have been hooked on various curries for a long time.
Awesome you can get them there! -E
Hey Eric, what's the salt content like in these curries? It's something I have to consider atm, so interested to how they rate.
I only have two left to look at, but they are showing about 2.5 grams per packet. I'm sure each is a bit different.
@@kydeanderic thanks! Good to know. That's apparently about the daily limited allowed (2.3 grams). I'll have to save them for special occasions 😉
If you ever get a chance try Champion Curry. It's Kanazawa curry. My friend from Saitama recently came to Hokuriku and tried. His words, "Game Changer" if you like Japanese curry. He has recently found a couple shops in Tokyo.
Is it weird that I chew my rice?!? I'm having doubts after watching Eric pelican those spoonfulls. Love the silent videos!
I probably don't eat super naturally when filming as no one wants to watch me chew for a minute between feedback. -E
Nice video. Reminded me of another UA-camr who does silent cooking in Japan, which i also enjoy.
By the way the pickles you are eating are from a German company :-) Its one of the good high quality ones. Thought that might bei interesting if you havent already known that.
Didn't know that, but awesome! I think we got them at Don Quixote! -E
Runnyrunny999?? Love him :))
All the kitchen appliances and utensils are so cute and compact.
At the shop on the air force base I'm stationed at, they sell those curry packs from japan where you just put the packet into boiling water. Quick and easy. Now if only I can get them to put those in out MRE's 🤔
haha
Oh damn, the looks pretty epic. You even have a side and a dessert! Rice is horrible for me and I really shouldn't be eating it but I might do so anyway if I can figure out how to make me some curry...
Could just eat the curry with a straw! Haha -E
@@kydeanderic true! or stick it in a blender with some orange juice or something. Curry smoothie!
Did you leave any pickles for Kyde? 😃 I think I would need a lot more rice for that sea of sauce.
Yea, basically I don't want to eat too many calories and this dish is already sort of getting out of hand with everything I add. Plus you can always lick the plate at the end. -E
@DJ Nagle Maybe some brown rice and veggies.
Cooking with eric
Very nice clean kitchen
I live in Mammoth Cave, Ky. The only curry I have found is Indian curry and its just too sweet. So I have to make my curry at home. My favorite is the S&B Golden Curry sauce mix (Hot). The Amish run a discount grocery here and the only thing I can think is a Asian store must have went out of business because I got 30-40 boxes of curry sauce for .50 cents each. I don't eat rice but once a week so I eat mine with salad leaves.
Jason Miller I eat my rice with kimchi wrapped in lettuce leaves. My favorite is with seaweed snacks though, when I have them on hand.
Surprised Indian curry is too sweet, typically people who like Indian curry say that about Japanese curry. -E
Is there any reason that you have 2 rice cookers? and what's the numbers on the cooker?
We prep dinner in one in the morning and the other I can use during lunch. The numbers are just a little key to show how long to set the timer so dinner will be ready. -E
You should not be unsupervised with electrical appliances ;)
I never tried it but they just opened up a Japanese curry place near my house so I might have to check it out.
Oh nice, yea, def check it! -E
I do the pucks of curry sauce, where you just throw like a block of curry stuff into a pot with potatoes, carrots, onions, meat, and water, and it all turns into curry.
Those are good too! I'm just lazy. -E
Eric stepped up his quiet video with ASMR.
To echo many others... APARTMENT TOUR GUYS???
The curry looks yummy by the way... wish we could get them where I am in Canada
Yea, we need to film a apartment tour. Just haven't felt inspired. -E
Never been a one for ASMR vids. Think I may have to rethink that now.
Most people don't think they are until they find their "trigger." You just have to find yours. There are a TON to choose from. Sometimes it's not even what you'd expect. I've never gotten the AMSR "tingles" as they're called, but they Do make me really sleepy (which I've read is one of the other reactions, it makes you really relaxed) and as I have insomnia I use it to help me fall asleep, as a lot of ASMR watchers do. I have my favorites (tapping, wood sounds, sand sounds, keyboard typing, ect), but interestingly I've found other types of videos that aren't really considered ASMR that do the same thing for me: real-time driving and train cab POV rides (sans music for both). ASMR doesn't have to be this weird thing, a lot of people only consider it weird because the "erotic/ sensual" type of ASMR videos have gotten a lot of news. But I would say those kinds of videos are minority. The most basic, mundane things can be nice relaxing ASMR, like wood carving or hair brushing, just haveta find your favorite triggers :)
Oddly, I really enjoyed this video. Just my type of meal. I wish these sort of curries were readily available in the UK. Curry is seen as one of our national dishes here. Ive got to get a small rice cooker; mine is family size. Thanks for the video.
Check amazon! -E
Hey Kyde & Eric - Have you ever considered doing an in depth study of Japanese youkai?
Could be fun...!
I read about them sometimes, yes! -E
Man I love me some curry rice. There was a curry rice place down the street from my hotel in Akasaka back in 2014 and I could have eaten there for every meal.
Can I order this curry stuffs off amazon?
Not sure, maybe! -E
Definitely make this a thing! ☺️👍🏻
This is hilarious since I made beef and vegetable curry for dinner last night. (Not from a packet like that. Fresh meat and veg but the "curry" portion is from those pre-made paste blocks) It was Japanese style also. lol I love curry! When I make it, I make a huge pot so I can have it for lunch at least three times that week. I make it once or twice a month, so I also eat a lot of curry.
I bet yours was better, hahaa. I'm too lazy to go all out and make it "for real." -E
My dude! I also eat pre-made curry rice about 3 times a week! Since moving back from Japan, I found a local Indian market that sells their equivalent of the Japanese version.....and oh my god are they good! I am honestly not looking forward to eating the Japanese ones all the time again since the Indian ones seem to have so much more variety. There are ones with Paneer (Indian cottage cheese), bean, spinach, all kinds of stuff. Plus they don't use preservatives and are vegeterian! Look into finding some if you can. My favorite brands are Haldiram's and Priya.
i honestly never knew packet food could look so good :D
Lol at least yours makes pleasant noises! Mine sounds like an alarm and scares the crap out of me!
Simple, affordable, fast and easy to cook tasty healthy man food......nice one Eric!! I love curries and indian cuisine in general.😋 As they would say in Liverpool your sound as a pound
It's a bit different than an Indian curry, but still good! -E
@@kydeanderic that's true. You know how to survive in Japan on a budget Eric👍
Tomatoes in miso soup. I will definitely take it under advisement. Also perhaps if you add "dashi" to your miso soup, it would be a lot more flavorful! (you can buy freeze-dried powder dashi from a supermarket in Japan, I guess). One rice cooker for your and the other for Kyde?
Not a huge fan of dashi, to be honest. We have two rice cookers so we can prep dinner in one and i can still make lunch without too much trouble. Plus they were both free. -E
edit: It just occurred to me the miso paste actually has dashi *in* it. Haahaha
you have made me hungry after watching this , :-)
How much sodium does it pack?
The packets show around 2 -> 3 grams each. I assume the miso soup has more, but I dunno. -E
Next time hit me up when you're planning to do something like this. I'll come by, after all, it's only 5600 miles or so. I'd be glad to have such a convenient way of preparing meals. Japan is awesome! Enjoy your curry, man! Pickles for dessert?!? LMAO dude! Cheers!
Haha, that'd be quite a journey for curry rice! -E
I was not prepared to see mini tomatoes being dropped into miso soup! It’s upsetting for a lot of people I imagine but I would give it a shot too :)
Upsetting for people? Hahahahaha
I like your taste! Good job Eric.
Thanks!
i heard someone on twitch say, while munching food, this is the place to leave comments about washing rice 😀
lol
Oh I love curry..that sounds yummy
I see you have a delux 3-burner stove. How Lucky!!!

A total imposter with that cooking asmr. Eric has to talk. Then you talked, now I feel relieved.
Dang, Eric. Four pickles? LOL
Yea, I went light on them that day. Don't need the world knowing in a manic pickle muncher. -E
Damn, looks good AF
And this week on Cooking with Erik........
a good idea is making halfnhalf. did you hear that soon cocoichi will open their first branch in india
I wonder how Japanese style curry will go down in India. -E
Either everything is very small in Japan or you have huge hands haha. I discovered curry in Japan. Apparently they discovered it from the British Navy who discovered it from India. Now I love curry from every where but some how Japanese is the yummiest.
I'm very tall. -E
oh what I would do to have those curry packets. or even the japanese curry roux. I make my own curry roux and I guess not having the boxed version forced me to learn how to make it on my own but damn I would unlearn everything if we had stuff like that available where we live.
Btw, my wife and I ate curry rice too most of this week. I made a BIG batch. :P let's keep chuggin curry bro
It seems a very healthy dish, but also delicious and still kind of fast food. 👍
Check you out, being all fancy. lol
Eric! Do more cooking videos, bro!
We have reached the end of what I know how to "cook" hahahaa. -E
Your fancy 👍 was good to see that you have kept moving with the cooking 🥘 no good little video thanks 😊🇬🇧🏴
