    Oh man, the cook in me is SO glad you went for medium if you're normally a well-done person. So proud. Cooks work so hard to get the right juicy to done-ness. You not only made all our days by ordering that for us, you made the cooks day by them allowing to give you some of their better (as they perceive it) work! People can totally eat however they prefer, but from a cooks perspective, we love the medium-rare, mediums :).
    Also, Eric - anything else you're burnt out on? I can't really eat straight scrambled eggs or most hot dogs anymore because as a kid we had so many eggs/hot dogs - not often together.;)

    how hard is it to travel around japan . is it confusing to read the maps for the bullet train to get to each city/town.

    As to well-done vs medium, it may depend on where you were brought up. My family was military so we were posted to some places where local meat was a bit risky if not cooked really well. Hence I have a liking for burned steak. Roll on a few years and a corporate do was held in a London Argentinian restaurant. Everyone ahead of me in the ordering at our table selected rare to medium. The chap to my left asked what the thick steak was. (A plate of the raw options was on display). A fillet... And the only one they would agree to deliver well done. Halleluljah!. I had a great steak. And it was VERY well done.

  • @Puckanm

    There is a pretty interesting stand-up izakaya under the JR bridge at Akihabara station. Though im guessing it doesn't have chairs not to be special, but because they wouldn't really fit.... the bar starts around 3 meters wide, and tapers down to about a meter in width, including counter space.

    First off love your videos. You two are a hoot and enjoy your "joy" Hubby is at grocery store now buying a T-bone steak on sale and trimmings to top the baked potatoes (poke holes, add olive oil and sea salt and wrap in foil in oven). We add cheese ( buy the block cheddar and shred), a few slices of bacon crumbled, sour cream and chives to potatoes. Pick vegetable fresh and steam. T-bone or any type of steak on sale of course, we found a grilling pan on stove burner to work best for taste but messy with splats. Season meat with sea salt and pepper. Cook with butter, a few flips and let the meat rest, add a slice of butter and or garlic and tent with foil for min. 5 minutes. Meat thermometer a must. Grew up on well done meat but now enjoy med to well done. If I see too much pink like it's going to walk off the plate, loose appetite fast. Tally dinner tonight for two total is $24. Can't do this often but nice to a change. Thank you for sharing your travels and food rewiews.~blessings

    Hey guys thanks for the new video. I am always fascinated with novel concepts in dinning in Japan. I have never seen a standing room only eatery. Those were massive steaks by the way; wow. Kudos for Eric's new head gear a skull cap suits him. Kyde is always very serious about food reviews which I find charming and humorous at the same time. Isn't "Carnivore" used in japan to describe women who actively approach men and even go as far as to book the hotel room after the date for some sexy time? Since "waiting for the man to take the initiative" doesn't seem to work that well in japan anymore?
    At least that's what I read on a japan blog recently ;-P

    I grew up and still live on a ranch. Eric, y'all must have not had mean cattle like we do down here. I grew up showing cattle, and I'm pretty sure that my dad had me get the wildest, meanest ones to halter break. I eat steak to exact my revenge on all the steers and heifers that knocked me around and kicked my ass growing up. Kade, if y'all ever get to Texas, I'll show you how to get some crunch from a steak and not ruin it. The best steak house in Texas is really close to my ranch. it's a little converted church that's only open on Saturday evening and they only have 5 things on the menu. The town it's in doesn't even have a post office or a traffic light. Like I've said in the past, y'all make it out to Texas, y'all stop by. I'll take y'all on an adventure neither of y'all would forget. The steaks are on me.

    How easy is it purchase quality beef in Japan, for cooking at home? I am wondering if there was anything provided at this restaurant that you couldn't have just done at home. Some beef at restaurants in USA is dry aged or goes through additional steps at the restaurants, but if what they served here was no different than buying from a butcher and grilling a steak at home, I would probably opt for home.
    How long was it between ordering the steak and it being served? Average decent steakhouse in USA/Canada is usually half an hour or so. Just wondering how this compares in a Japanese "steakhouse" like this one. Thank you!

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  8 років тому

      +Michael Quattrocchi No idea about buying beef here. We usually eat chicken at home. It took about 10 minutes or so for the food to come out. This place is sort of "fast food" in a sense. -E

    Dat shirt, amazing. If I walked into a steak house and it had sauce, I'd walk right out. A perfect steak shouldn't need anything but a knife and a fork to eat with. Why don't Kyde try a steak with a heavy rub on the outside? You can have that seared crunch and still have a steak properly cooked medium rare. Also did you notice the couple in the background when the camera was on Kyde in full bibs. I'd understand at a crawfish place but how sloppy can you get with steak? Probably the sauce. Can't wait to see part 2 of your Philippines trip!

    Hey guys. I'm from Texas as you know and I love steak, I too, am a carnivore like Katie. I've had some good ass steaks in my life and if there was one thing that I had trouble finding in Japan was good and as you point out in the video, not just good but affordable steak. The closest I could find was in Saizeriya or Coco curry house but as you know I'm sure that was just hamburg steak as they call it. I want some real steak though next time I go but for something cheaper than $20. I know Katies was a bit cheaper than that but my question to you is, what is your best recommendation for someone that loves a good steak but doesn't want to go bankrupt when eating it? Specifically around Tokyo, I would love to eat some good steak whenever I would get that craving but I couldn't find anything when I searched. Would it be cheaper to just buy my own at the market and just cook it myself?

      Kyde and Eric Hmm yeah I know you said you sorta got your fill in life for steak and as I said I know steak is just not a thing in Japan. Well I could at least go here and try out theirs but that price is quite high as you said....

    You two guys are great, I watched loads of your videos and I find your "country"/"city" reviews reliable and interesting. I know this is totally off-topic, however I'd love to visit Laos but I hate touristy places and I got that impression from several videos (including yours). Did you enjoy your travel experience there, would you consider to visit again? I suppose if you had to choose, you'd rather go to Vietnam. Anyway I am not expecting a reply as it has nothing to do with this video but I tried :)

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  8 років тому

      +Luca Del Prete We did enjoy Laos, but there is one specific town you should avoid like the plague if you don't want to deal with tourists: Vang Vieng. It's like an endless frat party populated with white college kids travelling on daddy's dollar. We went, but only to see the absurdity of it all. Outside of that city Laos is very pure and unexplored...or was 6 years ago. We were there for a month or something and I'd go back if there was a driving reason to do so, but at the moment I'm not drawn to it. Vietnam on the other hand we would love to explore more....but we were only there 2 weeks or something so there are a lot of places to visit we didn't even get near. It seems to be between the two Vietnam has much more to offer, but in a way the remoteness of Laos has it's own charm. -E

      +Kyde and Eric Thank you for getting back to me! I heard the worst about Vang Vieng but apparently a year ago or so, they shut down most bars, banned "happy" cakes and they are now trying to attract more Asian tourists and kayaking lovers. Another Laos versus Vietnam dilemma for me is food and by the way thanks for sharing all those delicious meal reviews haha. I am a huge fan of Vietnamese food and I would possibly spend the entire trip trying any possible street food available while I don't know much about Laotian cuisine. It looks to me like a mix of Thai and Viet food which sounds absolutely tasty but I haven't tried it yet. Looking forward to more videos on Manila, you're by far my favorite expat vloggers on youtube. Keep it up and thanks again for the feedback.

      +Luca Del Prete Regarding the food....honestly....we weren't blown away by the food in Laos. Vietnamese food on the other hand is wonderful! -E

      She does sometimes, but she is typically way busier with her job so she only has time to read comments. Replying takes a lot more time, as I'm sure you can imagine. -E

    Ohhhh kyde... never ever order a steak well done.. its such a waste.. im not saying you have to order medium rare.. but... a properly cooked medium steak is the best thing on earth.
    I cook steaks for a living... do me a favor sometime.. its gonna be expensive so splurge and split it with eric... sometime in japan.. get a bone in ribeye steak... Its the best steak out there IMO.. You cant beat a bone in ribeye

    If I am spending $40 for a meal, I damn well am sitting. I would bring my own walking cane the folds into a perch to sit on. THAT I intend to find when I first get to Japan as there is almost never benches sitting out on the street. With all that walking I would literally die. So I have to get one of those.
