Love watching drummer John Lovitz having a blast
🤣
I thought I was the only one who saw it
Right!!!
LMAO!
WOW... I never made that connection 😂 I love Nick, he is amazingly good and I LOVE Jon Lovitz. No shame in that comparison 7:06
I'm astounded by the amount of drummers with electronic kits that haven't utilized their MIDI output into a DAW with a VST drum plug-in.
This is exactly why I'm buying an electronic kit. I wanna record drums at home and not mess around with noise complaints while having access to top tier samples.
This is a proper lightbulb moment for me. I’ve put off buying an e-kit due to the awful samples, but with this software and the superior drummer software, I think I’m finally going to take the plunge.
I already have a little home studio with Logic Pro x, so I’m all set!
Any advice on the most cost effective kit with decent feeling pads would be appreciated! 😁👍🏻
@@timpricedrums Look at EFNOTE. They trigger amazingly well with VSTs and have the best hi hats available (excluding the costly Roland digital hats). Another great option is to go without a module and get an eDrumIn. The triggering control with the eDrumIn is top notch and you can cobble together a bunch of used stuff for short money to get started if budget is a concern.
@@482jpsquared thanks John. That’s great advice. Cheers 👍🏻😁
Exactly! Most of those drum samples sound BETTER than what I could get with my acoustic kit. Don't get me wrong, I have a nice kit, but I don't have the amazing mics or the mastering experience that the ones that recorded these samples did.
@@timpricedrums I've heard a lot of good things about the Millenium MPS-850. Sounds don't matter since you're using midi samples anyway and it has two snare triggers so you can do rimshots/ghost notes. I think it's less than $600.
I Usually Don't leave A Lot Of Comments On Here But I have To Say You're Not Only A Good Drummer But First And Foremost A Real Good Educator! Thanks, Brother Nick !
Thanks Nick. I've been frustrated with getting my kit to integrate with EZdrummer3. This helped me tremendously, and it's by far the best video on EZdrummer3 that I've seen. God bless ya.
Very very informative, one of the best tutorials out there so far.
Awesome video. I just got EZ Drummer 3 (my first time using a drum VST) and am seriously impressed with it so far. Looking forward to using it with my e-drum kit!
This demonstration was infinitely helpful... thank you
Amazing tutorial, informative and fun. Classy, tasty playing too! Thank you
This is like a drum machine app for my computer that I can play/record into with my TD-50? WAY COOL!! thanks for another great video Nick!
it really sounds FANTASTIC!!!...great playing too!
I’m doing this with my band since 2018, in all our shows we are using the e-kit and ez drummer with phenomenal results
Do you get any haters for using an e-kit live? I just got one. The EZD samples are from the best producers and best recording studios around the world.
Surprisingly very few, because as you said the EZD samples sounds so amazing that people think the e drum kit module produce the sounds, besides for small venues you got the sound pressure level so much controlled, for me is easy to mix with the rest of the band, acoustic drums are awesome but they need a complex mic technique, if you set the E-drum module in the right way the results are so natural when you play
You need any additional piece of Hardware to output the sound of Ez drummer through the speakers? Does it get laggy at some point?
@@misfit_94 The signal Pathway is Electronic Drum Module via USB to PC/Mac then Ez drummer, from another USB port plug a sound interface (Foscusrite, etc..), from the monitor outputs of the interface, via TRS to XLR male cable to the mixing console, and voila
Do you send multi-channel outputs to FOH so the mix can be adjusted for the room? Any DAW in the signal chain for backing or cue tracks?
Awesome - Thank you for showing how to change the default setup of the kit. I've been trying to use the Timpani from EZDrummer 3 Expansion Classic Rock ( the John Bonham kit ) for a Classical orchestral type part.
And now the possibilities are endless to create new custom kits.
Nick, your presentations are just as great as your drumming! Nice work on all of your vids! Thanks so much!
They really are. I first saw this guy when he was singing into like 8 different microphones for a Sweetwater video, ti help those looking for nice mic’s. Very thorough, educated, smiley. Didn’t even know he was an accomplished drummer.
Great video! I'm entirely new to electronic instruments, despite tinkering with computers all my life. Very humbling to not know at all what I'm doing!
At first, I was just interested in plugging into the computer for the good, full speakers. It's nice to see I've got a ton more options after that.
Big Thanks for this amazing tutorial !
This one has to be the best video ive seen about this e-kits to midi thanks
This is great! Thank you for making this video to help us. I would of been lost and confused. Very easy to follow, and explained very well. Thanks!!
Possibly the best tutorial I've ever seen on UA-cam
Fantastic thanks. Was using EZdrummer 2 with my new Roland VAD-307S and now see how much better version 3 is for v-drum integration, time to upgrade!
Great, easy to understand presentation, Nick. I've been using this to record our album in Logic pro. It's also great to as well as record using MIDI from my Roland kit to trigger the kits in EZ Drummer, to also take stereo lines out from the brain and record the audio at the same time. Before using DAW, I spent so long editing my Roland to build my perfect kit to the music we are creating, it's interesting to hear them both in comparison.
No offense but I’d put those audio tracks from the Roland module straight to the trash
Man! youre a live safer!
I didnt had that much money to buy a roland kit, but i bought the milennium mps 1000 which i absolutely adore!
But i was still struggling with EZdrummer, or in general how to apply a VST :)
Now tomorrow my drum module, tom toms, and cymbals get delivered, so im gonna subscribe to your channel, and use this video tomorrow to set everything up!
I really didnt knew how to do it, but with your video it sounds easy enough!
So thank you again!
First, great playing! This instructional video is amazing, learned loads from it. Tyvm!
Thanks for always making informative videos Nick, You guys rock. Pity we don't have a sweetwater branch in my country
Great video! This was what I was looking for thanks 🙏
I remember first seeing nick on the cover of modern drummer magazine as a kid in the early 00s Dudes a monster player and apparently a great teacher too.
thank you sir for the tutorial. i didnt know about the record option. Thank you verry much
Nick, It would be great to see a video on the issues that left handed players face and using tech that is generally designed for right handed players. As you can guess, I'm left handed and had to deal with a number of issues during my gigging days (I do studio jamming now with my band).
Thank you Sweetwater for the video. I also want some information on how you connect Your E-Drums with the mac.
Awesome!! Thanks John Lovitz!
Toon track is top notch stuff.I love it
They only reason I bought an e-kit as I had EZD already. The sound in my headphones is WAY better.
Great video !!Very helpful !!!!
Super video thank you! Quick question? What is a good latency time? Is 1.0ms is a good? What is the ideal range. Thx
wow great sounds !!! 💙
Hey Nick great video. I have fun using ez drummer 3 had for a few years now purchased it from sweetwater of course, but some of the features you are using are must be an update, got to check on that! Much Easier,,! Great. Investment if you're in to production work or if you are working on a song for different genres,.
Thanks for the video
I Lovitz your playing
THIS IS SO COOL AND EASY
Nick’s awesome.
Another awesome video by Nick. However, I like to point out that there are differences between the standalone version and the plugin version in the setup instructions.
I am using this with Ableton Live 11, but this should apply to all or most DAWs. When using the plugin version (which I think is really a call to the standalone
version passing a parameter that places it into a "plugin mode") there is NO OPTION in the SETUP tab to select AUDIO/MIDI setup. Instead it only shows
EDRUM/MIDI IN. Selecting this brings you to the PRESET selection screen. From there you do the same as in the video to select which kit you have and the
section optimizing the HiHat instrument. At this point there is no option to select a buffer size in EZDRUMMER 3. Instead you can bring up a screen that
shows buffer sizes, but this is from the ASIO driver, not EZDRM 3 and it won't allow you to change that buffer size because it's in use by the program.
This may be an Ableton thing, but I have no way to verify that. So this may only apply to Ableton, your mileage may vary.
BUT, there is no need to change any buffer size as it all seems to work just fine with absolutely no latency or delay of any kind (at least on my PC which
is a mid level unit, not a gaming machine and I am using a Roland TD27 kit). Everything else follows the video exactly.
One more problem I ran into. I am using the internal interface of the TD27 module, so the resulting audio goes back to the TD27 and I use the headphone
output from there to monitor the sound. When I strike a drum or any trigger on the kit, I hear not only the EZDRMR 3 sound, but the sound coming from
the TD27 kit. So there are two sounds coming into the headphones. There is no way to use the triggers on the TD27 without having a drum kit selected.
This really had me stopped for a while. I fixed this by noticing that there is a special button on the TD27 called "kit volume". By selecting that on the
TD27, was able to set the volume to "-INF" which is essentially 0 AUDIO output, the trigger output
still comes out to the PC. Problem fixed. You can pick any drum kit in the TD27 and do this as you are
not going to use the synthesized drums in the KIT anyway.
So I hope this extra bit of info helps anyone having trouble integrating their electronic drums in a DAW using the PLUGIN version.
And thanks, Nick, for a great video.
Joel
You need to turn the ‘local control’ inside your td27 (under midi) to ‘off’. That turns your internal sounds off while using a VST
The simplest thing is to turn off LOCAL CTRL as noted below.
is it possible to add a tambourine sound when the snare is hit on the ez drummer 3 ?
this is an amazing video
Thanks!
Fanstatic Nick
Oh ya, this was excellent. Thanks
Great video I absolutely learned a lot. I really wish you would show the connection part of things because I’m kinda new to all of this and I do have an Apollo XP as well as analysis striped pro I wanted to see how do you route the connection is it best to go through the midi in and out or should I go With the individual outputs in the module into the inputs of the Apollo or should I just go through the Maine out from the module to the input into the Apollo for all the questions but I really wish you showed the connection part between the hardware cause that’s where I’m stuck at
Sweet vid! Just ordered a vad507, new to all this but looking forward to tinkering with sounds!
What's everyone's experience rigging up inputs/outputs between drum module and laptop?
A single headphone and single speaker option that's easy to switch between kit and vst would be a dream. Or is it possible to just get the VST to 'push' to the kit?
thank you for vids
Great, thank you
Great demo Nick. Can you still record internally through the module if you are using the EZ3, or does the recording need to go though an external source?
Hey, JC B. You can still record but it won’t be the EZ3 sounds you’d be hearing. In that case, you’d need a recording interface.
I hope this helps.

When using an electronic kit , should the settings default to the lowest tom instead of the highest ?
EZ DRUMMER alongside of the MPC X... this is going to be fire lol. ✌
Ottima recensione complimenti
thanks
bright room is fantastic. there is a drum preset similar to IN UTERO
Thank you Nick as always great info. I have a TD50x and record my drums over drumless tracks from an SD inside the module. If using the EZ sounds via a laptop, will these sounds still be recordable through the TD50 module recording system, or will all recordring need to be done through the laptop? Many thanks
Hey, Jean Claude. Thanks so much for your interest.
If using EZ drummer, you would need to record within your computer.
I hope this helps.

@@sweetwater Thank you kindly Jason. Appreciate the great channel you folks have.
Are there built in effects like reverb that you can use ? And after you create a drum track can you ad other instruments and vocals to make a song. Or would it have to be transferred over to another program like pro tools to create a song. And would transferring it be relatively easy ?
Hey photographerjonathan, great question! EZ Drummer does have its own mixing engine built in so you can complete a drum track. It cannot record anything else though! My work flow with this program is to use it as a plugin within a DAW. There, after designing your drum groove, you can route each drum to its own track within the DAW and mix how you would normally!
If you have further questions, let me know!

Hi Nick,
Great video! I'm quite a novice at e-drumming. I have owned an ALESIS DM10-Pro kit since probably 2009, and about the only upgrade I've ever done to it has been putting mesh heads on it (with questionable success). It's not the latest. It's not the greatest, but it's what I have to work with right now. I'm not even sure if that model is still supported by ALESIS or not or if that even matters to get better sounds out of it. Is an old DM10 Pro still relevant?
I guess I need an "E-Drums 101" type video to learn some of the basics first. I'm not sure where to begin. Any advice? - Anyway, I need to learn how to utilize it better now. I'm joining a band that uses Band Helper Software, which can save sounds for every song for every instrument in the bands set list, but first, I need to learn how to program new and better sounds into my old DM10-Pro.
So my old Roland TD kit is from 2006 and only has midi , do I need a direct in box to use convert to usb? Or a usb to midi adapter cable be enough
I'm getting back into drumming after 30 years, just got a kit from Donner. One problem, the default sound the unit comes with is a bit disappointing, very flat with no range, all hits sound the same no matter how hard I hit. Do you think that is fixable with this software? You have range but you are also on a much more expensive kit by Roland.
This was awesome! Is it possible to multichannel out of the interface to a live console ! So electronic drums +superior drums + interface + audio console ? Hope this makes sense!
Hey, Derek. Thanks so much for your interest. Yes you can. As long as your interface has enough outputs to send out to a live console.
I hope this helps.

Hi
I didnt Read all comments, so it might be that the question is answered....
But
Are the presets for all the edrums existing without installing the driver or do you see the special preset for your edrum kit only in that case, that the special driver is installed.
Without connecting any drumkit and installing any driver i dont see any preset.
The Video sounds as if ez drummer would have all the presets out of the box on board
Thanks a lot
Holy moly didn’t know you can record with this😀
All hail Sweetwater!
Where can I find a step by step to get my EZdrummer software to record in Garage Band?
helped me a lot. my carlsbro drum kit giving me a lag between the hit and the sound, plz help
Nice vid! I want to use it live, how do I route it to the PA?
Hey David, fantastic question! You will need a solid, low latency Audio Interface. I recommend the Motu M2, as it has incredibly low latency and sounds great:

What rug is this kit on? And does Sweetwater sell it? ;)
nick. what driver would I install for a Mac Big Sur? I cannot find this info anywhere. I've got everything set right on DAW and module but I can't find what driver I need to install
Nick!!! You're convincing me to change from acoustic to electronic kit. It's been on my mind for the last while. Only problem is I freelance for wedding bands so I'm always playing with different bands, so not sure how that would work for them as loads don't have great monitoring on stage. Would ya setup the kit with a wedge so guitarists and singers can hear what you're playing if they don't have in ears? Or would this just be too much hassle?
Hello, Mark! The way you described is commonly how this is done when drummers gig with e-kits. Best case scenario is always going to be in ear monitors, that way each member of the band can more precisely control how much of it they are hearing. Even in those situations though, it is nice to have some sort of a drum amp or stage wedge on the stage to provide some degree of stage volume, which is lost without an acoustic kit. If you ask me, bringing a small monitor is not too much of a hassle considering all of the benefits you gain with an e-kit - no need for mic’ing, access to different tones on the fly, volume control, etc…

Hi iam from indonesia, thank for your sharing video are very usefull, i want to ask How to adding tambourine to snare hit in ez drummer?
I'm not sure what to get a roland vad706 or a roland td50kv2 what do you guys think?
Hey Justin great vid a usual! Its amazing how much you know. You're like the Thomas Edison of e-drums. I have a question I can't get an answer from anyone. Can you trigger Alesis SR-18 sounds from pads thru a Roland TD-27 module? I was thinking if I connect with midi it might work. Alesis and Roland have no no phone support. And also what is the best headphones for e-drums? I have Bose quiet comfort and have problems with distortion. Thanks!!
Hey, Richard. Thanks for reaching out.
You should be able to via mid since both units have midi ins and outs.
The headphones I use are the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro. Super comfortable and no distortion.
Hope this helps.

If I wanted to send the midi in Toontrack to another sound source, how can I do that? I know you can drag the midi wherever but I am looking/hoping for a more seamless solution like how you can set up Toontrack for an e-drum kit
Hey, Jared. Are you trying to control the Toontrack sounds with a different instrument such as a midi controller? If so, you definitely can.
If you’re trying to send midi, you would need a midi interface of some sort.
Which other sound source are you referring to? Feel free to contact me directly and we can sort this out.

How well does EZ3 "interact" with the Roland PD-140DS? As it has different playing zones I am wondering how well EZ3 does work with these as it does with the different sounds at the Digital HiHat. Does it translate without any lack of sensitivity?
A tutorial about how to set this up to record with a DAW like Cakewalk would be very helpful.
I want it!.. the TD 50 and EZdrummer 3. or Superior drummer 3. I'm still on the old Td25 and Td 11 linked together with 8 mesh pads, 8 roland cymbals. double bass pedal. bk125 snare. all I worry about is latency with these programs. It has to be as minimal as drum module for me.
i use ez drummer 3 for my electric kit but it always sounds bad through the speakers?? Is this normal, because through headphones it sounds amazing.
Hi I just got it but how can you ad inputs? I mean Im pluging a td3 and td9 at the same time and the drum kit has 6 toms and 7 cymbals, so how can I set custom sounds to each of my pads??
can you plug two modules via usb or midi to computer.. for a larger set up? or shoudl i say will ezd3 recognize allow two modules that way as i run a 2nd module for some aux things.. normally but been wanting to try a vst... thanks.

When monitoring with this setup are you listening with your headphones plugged into the TD-50 or the audio output of the laptop??
Hey UtwoBed, I hope you’re well.
