What’s in a groove? Is it the specific drums? The atmosphere? The interplay of timbral elements as the drum sounds - synthetic or otherwise - reverberate throughout the room, dancing alongside the accompanying instrumentation? A deceptively complex question, to be sure, but it’s worth understanding how the same beat can take on a completely new vibe purely by making major or minor tweaks to the drums in use. Being able to identify these differences stands to open entirely new worlds of drum design and composition possibilities, giving you the tools you need to clear creative hurdles in establishing the rhythmic backbone of your track, regardless of style or genre. Who better than Sweetwater’s own Nick D’Virgilio to shepherd you through the endless possibilities waiting for you with EZdrummer 3 and your electronic kit? Check it out!

Resurrected my TD 6v, connected Roland Um - 1 & laptop, brought EZ Drummer 3 and Behringer 22 usb interface. Drums to laptop, behringer unit to laptop, seperate usb ports (behringer acts as an external sound manager). EZ Drummer 3 the BEST thing I have brought in my life, cutting cymbals like butter, ocean depth flam on the toms, an amazing plug in.

Some tips, be patient, if you’re wanting to listen to you tube and play, load YT first, play track and then load EZ D 3. If buffer (as you strike the pads) clipping is a probs, adjust buffer rate in Ez D 3, turn down ALL volume, then set kit volume in mix, add volume to YT, strike pads to measure clip between both & adjust. If you don’t need YT turn off internet and all other programs. I mucked around with ASIO4all for days trying to get the two signals and eventually purchased the Behringer unit (do this as ASIO4all blocks YT or vice versa can’t hear pads) the buffer rate is also much easier to achieve. Be patient though if you have a modern but cheapish laptop sometimes it needs to think- ‘have you tried turning your computer off and on again’.

Being new to EZD 3 the YT information was great but a lot of trial and error on my behalf. But… so stoked, within days purchased a bundle with Modem Metal, Drums of Destruction, Metalheads, with the core set up EZD 3 now have 17 drum sets, over 50 cymbals, 18 Bass Drums, 22 snares Tama, DW, Drumcraft, Paiste, Ludwig, Sabian. Professionally recorded, sounds straight to the e kit.

Sure, unless you are a millionaire you are freaking out about the cost, got you… seriously if you are an intermediate drummer and feel confident with your playing, purchase this software now. At the end once it’s all working you will be blown away. Effectively a new module, with what I would say are superior sounds to the majority of Roland options. FYI also maxed out TD 6v inputs with line splitters & extra cymbals to maximise similarities to an acoustic kit. (Apologies for simple terms and short thesis above, normally can’t be bothered. Spent days researching and then adjusting to get my kit 100%, hopefully if you are at the start point some info helps) cheers and good luck.

Great demo! I seriously doubt that Nick reads the comments, but a lot of us would watch Nick read his grocery list because we're such big fans. I'm an especially HUGE fan of Big Big Train, Nick's amazing prog band. Anyway, EZdrummer 3 looks really good. I might need to add it to the wish list.

I've been using E-Drums and then VST's for the past 20 years. Had fun, long with a lot of frustration too, lol. I just bought my first acoustic kit in 30 years! Can't wait to set them up and get behind real drums again.

I've been playing nothing but E-drums for the better part of the last 20 years, have't played acoustic drums since around 2005-ish. Just bought a Yamaha Custom Birch kit and getting ready to set it up in the next couple of weeks after I finish "remodeling" my home studio. I'm pumped to play real hi-hats again, as that's always been the biggest problem with E-kits.

This is why I bought an Alessis Crimson because I wasn't worried about the onboard samples since I could just connect it with ezdrummer.

You're an idiot if that was your sole reasoning.
You've bought a module with a lot of inherent latency and sub-par triggering only to trigger a vst which ads even more latency
You would have been better off with a used roland set.

  • @roknrexstudio

I bought EZD2 not long before EZD3 came out. It's always frustrating to buy stuffs on sale, just to buy the upgrade that release right next after. Well EZD2 does work for me so I'll wait until the upgrade is on sale again (and I'm dead broke right now anyway).

I lost functionality on my snare with EZDrummer. Cross stick doesn't work properly. Thank god it was the demo and I didn't buy it. Worked fine on TD-17 but TD-27 was a no go. Not going to lose options on my kit for this. I will deal with the module. Toontrack has any technical help behind the pay wall. I tried to get it working right for a week.

Great program! I Used ezdrummer 2 on my last album with no drummer involved just programmed in the measures and Beats and drums and cymbals and everything else that I wanted. Amazing to have professional drummer with the best drum kit on your tracks. Pleasureburn - Temporary Infinity.

Definitely varies from kit to kit. Most default settings do well with EZ or Steven Slate. Each has built-in sensitivity curves that are much easier to adjust than the brain settings (especially velocity)

The animation will only be right handed, all parts of the kit can be remapped via EZD 3 to match cymbal positioning. The visual might annoy you, quality sound samples may convince you though.
