I'm literally feeling both sad and happy knowing Mr. Mangini will now be leaving Dream Theater. He really showed love, respect, and passion not just for the band but to the fans as well. Of course, as a DT fan, I'm really very happy for Portnoy's return. I like both Mike's. I hope I still can see their bond for the futures to come.
I absolutely love Portnoy's era with DT, but you'd have to be deaf to not appreciate Mangini's skills and discipline. They're both incredible drummers and they've both written amazing pieces for the band. I guess Portnoy just had to space himself away from Mangini and the band for a while... And I truly believe it wasn't personal as much as he needed time to figure things out for himself, we all go through that 🤷🏻♂
As a huge Portnoy fan, Mangini is so humble. His setup is hard to duplicate and his drums don't sound as crisp, but the guy is pure talent, pure discipline and pure kindness.
Love Mangini, thank you man. I have nothing but respect for him, just an amazing player, and a sweetheart. You are the my first dream theater experience, and it was amazing!
I remember those audition videos, four all four drummers who auditioned, and anyone who has seen them understands that the Dream Theater gig was not just given to Mike Mangini, he earned it. I like both Mikes, and see no need to like one over the other. Portnoy helped make DT the legends they are with his creativity, but Mangini helped get them their first Grammy.
Dream theater choose mangini after MP's left the band because of what his capable in. He is a music lecturer, his discipline, drumming technique, and he is a very friendly person.
It’s funny how the replacement of members has gone in dream theater. They always seem to land on “the technical master who’s really easygoing”. Happened with the addition of James back in the day. Happened when Rudess entered the band and then again with Mangini. It’s not surprising…everyone wants to work with friendly people who are good at their job. It’s just really pronounced with this band.
Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini on his recent meeting with Mike Portnoy
Mike Mangini is like "my mother's new husband" and you hate him just because he is not "dad", until you figure out he's a very nice guy.

The look on his face is like he knows something we don’t.. here we are.
When you hear and watch this man play the drums... You know he got the job for no other reason than pure talent and discipline.

All the best, MIKE for the next endeavors. DT was fortunate to have you.
Grew up listening to DT with Portnoy but it's hard to not love Mike. Both masters at their craft

I respect MM as a drummer and what he's brought to DT but MP will always be that landmark in the band's music that can never be replaced.

Thank you for your service, Mike Mangini. You are awesome!
Mike Mangini: humble maestro, tiny giant, monster sweetheart.
This man knew his days were numbered, here. And he seems genuinely happy about it. :) The healing is important!
Mangini and Portnoy are a monster drummers, artists of remo drum heads and inspiration for many many drummer just like me. Good bless.
Reunion Tour with both drummers involved.
Never stop missing Portnoy in DT! The latest JP Solo is aweson!
