Mangini's Polyrhythm, finally free section drum playthrough

- This is the most difficult and complex thing I have ever attempted by Dream Theater.
Mike Mangini played this 12 seconds polyrhythm over the 9th repetition of the instrumental section of the song “Finally Free” during Distance Over Time tour (same version as in the Live in London DVD).
I am absolutely amazed how hard this was to hit all the notes and get it on time. Mind blowing. Such a great exercise for one’s coordination 🤯
The hardest part: integrating that left hand doing simple 4/4 half-notes over such complex transitions without train-wrecking.
My perception of the odd times as told by the metronome at 0:16 (odd time signature both feet and right hand are following) was HOW I FELT it. Doesn’t mean it cannot be perceived other way (how I’d love to know how he structured this out and if he felt this in a different, maybe easier way…)
Bottom line is: the complexity, the effort and the knowledge to have been put in such a short 12 seconds of a live song. 🤯🥴

this sounds like banananananas
I'm not sure but feels like alien hip-hop intro ?
feels a little bit like it. but alien intro is in constant 17/8 time signature 👍🏼
I believe Mangini once said Quantum is one his favorite records, I'm sure Mangini is inspired by Virgil and vice-versa so I'm not surprised we find similarities in some of their grooves!
@@__julio__ Quantum is really a killer record 🤘
@@nihatserdaroglu absolutely! One of my favorites for sure
By alien hip hop are you talking about Virgil donati’s track
Keep grinding buddy. I have no idea how Mangini does it, but you have definitely given us a better idea of how difficult his stuff is to play.
Add a second video with added commentary on things like how long it took for your brain to move away from normal time to polyrhythm? How hard was it gaining limb independence?
Should give you two viewing streams, performance + performance and commentary.
You got there some really nice tips, buddy. I’ll make sure to keep them in mind. Thank you so much for watching. 🙏🏼👍🏼 cheers.
Too much technical in this.
I'll go back to listening Blues.
😁👌🏼
Una rítmica ridícula y totalmente carente de sentido. Un batería debe hacer que la canción camine y expresar emociones. Mangini no es más que un robot sin alma capaz de destrozar cualquier canción a base de polirritmias sin sentido.
Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion buddy 😉👍🏼
