Mustang GT 5.0L Vs. Civic Type R DRAG RACE!

- Hey Folks!
We're excited to have you all back for another race!
Welcome to episode 16 of our Ordinary Drag Racing Series where we had the blessing of racing a Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 Vs. a Honda Civic Type R.
We do realize that these vehicles are less "ordinary" than most of the vehicles in the series, but both of the owners of the cars were happy to let us use them, so we figured it would be great to line them up!
The Mustang has a 5.0L V8 with over 400HP and 400TQ whereas the Civic has a 2.0L Turbocharged engine making over 300HP and almost 300TQ.
We all knew that the Mustang had a big advantage, but we figured it would be interesting to see how well a front-wheel-drive Honda Civic could keep up to the Mustang.
Please continue to let us know what races you'd like to see as we will do our best to make them happen!
Thanks again and God bless!

Thanks for watching Everyone, we really appreciate it! Just a couple quick notes about the 1/4 mile times, please see below:
1. With regards to the Civic, we are well aware that many Automotive outlets have been able to get the Type R to be faster in the 1/4 mile, when compared to our fastest time. This is mainly down to the fact that the tires didn't have a ton of life left in them, and also that it's just simply a really hard car to get off the line fast. It's a really quick car, but 300+ HorsePower to the front wheels will difficult to get off the line quickly unless the car has very sticky tires - especially when compared to a RWD or AWD vehicle.
2. With regards to the Mustang, we also know that many people have seen faster 1/4 mile times with a stock 5.0 GT. We don't have much of an explanation for that one really, other than to say that we did notice a lot of wheelspin on the launch as well. We also did not brake torque the car on the launch, which could definitely shave off a few tenths of a second too (provided it can put the power down).
All in all, we realize that both cars can go faster in the 1/4 mile than what we experienced here, in this video. But this is also a great "real world/practical" test of both cars, not being on a formal drag strip, not warming up the tires, etc.
We had a great time driving these vehicles and we hope you enjoy the video!
You should do Civic Type R vs V6 Mustang. It would be a bit more competitive.
Pretty good idea actually, might be an interesting race :) if there’s a way we can line it up, we certainly will
@@KingdomAuto I really hope you can, since I feel like it would actually make a very interesting video.
@@JustinDaniels Yeah for sure, it might be tough to get that Type R out again and we'd have to find a V6 Mustang but nothing's impossible :)
Loved it, basically its me (19 Mustang GT PP1 6sp manual), against my friend in exact Civic Type R, same results, once at higher speeds, i walk away quickly, lower speeds he hangs same spot as in video
Right on, cool that you experienced the same results! Those GT's really get up and going quick, they're serious "bang for buck" performers. We knew that the Mustang would take the win in this case, but we really wanted to see how close that little 2.0L Type R could hang with it. We thought that all things considered, the Civic did really well! Another interesting race would be putting these two around a circuit! We aren't able to do something like that at the current time, but it would be fun to see!
Same thing with my type R and my bro-in-law with his GT
Your videos are so fun to watch dude..Your personality seems awesome..😄🤓 ima subscribe lol
Really appreciate that, thanks for your support! Lots more content on its way :)
Nice race waiting for the more videos
Thanks - Yep, definitely more coming :) We're aiming for 2-3 per month, they take a while to edit lol
Good stuff
Thank you, much more to come!
Never compare a Ramin Nodoles vs American prime stake lol 😂
😂😂
Yeah we knew the GT had everything going for it, mainly wanted to see how well the Type R could keep up. For only having a 2.0L engine and being designed for handling as opposed to straight line speed, we thought it did really well!
@@KingdomAuto I have a premium performance GT with roush stage 3 I never seen any Honda comes close to me for race. It’s like asking his dad how to kiss a girl lol 😂 no offence I have a Honda Civic too LX ..
@@ajah3247 Yeah that makes total sense, those vehicles are built for the straight line speed for sure! The Type R was specifically built for fast lap times, not at all for drag racing, so we knew what we were getting into when we lined it up against the GT - as mentioned, we just wanted to see how the two would compare.
What would be really interesting would be to see a Type R around a tight circuit Vs. a Mustang GT! Maybe one day we can make something like that happen :)
A simple tune to increase boost would make the ctr more competitive.
Totally agree. We mainly race stock vehicles just to see how they do in the 1/4 mile - with a focus on daily-drivers as well. It’s fun and we enjoy it :)
This race was a little outside of what we typically film but we had the cars available so we figured it would be fun to line them up :)
2.0 making battle to 5.0 its incredible !
Agreed, we thought that the Type R did really well :)
Great fun video. Good thing you guys were only going straight with the Mustang. Putting those around a track is interesting as they usually end up in a wall or ditch before turn 1. 😅
Haha yeah this was a bit of a different type of race for us, both of the vehicles’ owners wanted to get their cars out on the track so we just decided to film a video and see how they did.
You’re bang on, they’re both completely different cars built for totally different things. Very likely the Type R would win around a circuit but in a straight line the GT takes things pretty easily.
That said we were both impressed at how well the Civic kept up!!
@@KingdomAuto I was honestly surprised about how the Type R kept up as well. I knew it would lose to the 5.0 but didn't know it wouldn't be by much. Fun run either way, looked like you guys had a blast filming it too. Love the energy from this channel, looking forward to watching others.
@@TheWolfMatt Yeah absolutely, all things considered it did very well!
Thanks so much for your support! It’s people like you that help us keep going so both Miranda and I really appreciate it! We plan on continuing the series for a long time and we’re hoping it channel becomes sustainable one day to really put 100% of our time into it :)
Hur hur hur🤡 the salt is real🤣🤣🤣
Biggest bunch of BS I've ever heard.
What about a Honda Civic Type R with a Yamaha V8 and longitudinally mounted front wheel drive like the Honda Vigor and Audi Coupe?
Sounds like a pretty wild idea, and certainly fun if someone were to pull something like that off
Elantra N DCT vs this same mustang would be interesting
Thanks for your suggestion, if we can find the Elantra we should be able to make it happen :)
Roll race? RWD always has better launch stock, it’s why I went AWD, but from a roll it always seems standard out performs automatic, but from a roll I’d like to see that.
We did a roll race in this video :)
Someone answer me.. real time, personally, I own a Type-R and ran a 13.2 - 1/4 mile @ the track.. full traction control off. What do mustangs, in any trim, run at the track? Real time, personally (your personal best?)
A 2018+ GT will run a 12.0 stock. Tune and a tire runs around 11.6.
@@granthenneke fast af those are lol
@@sbboy805 I know a type R with a tune can put the hurt on though!
@@granthenneke tune for tune I have no doubt. I just winder because I guess at this point it's driver mod... some k beat but some shot on me lol
That’s a good time for a stock Type R!
Them : weight to power ratio makes a huge difference
Donks: 👁👅👁
Aren’t Donks Chevy’s?
@@KingdomAuto Yes Sir,early to mid 70s Caprice or Impala on big rims sporting usually around 2000hp ish.
@@Tee-roni Wow, didn’t realize they made that much power. That’s crazy.
Auto convertible 2nd gen coyote, all the go slow components mixed into one. Let’s see a 10 speed 3rd gen. lmao
Feel free to bring one out if you’ve got one :)
At least it’s not the EcoBoost lol
She win every race 😂😂
😂😂 she’s won a ton so far 😂 Things start to change towards the end of the season though!!
@@KingdomAuto 😂😂😭
Imagine if it was the 10spd
😬😬 woulda won by an even bigger margin
The honda civic looks so cool
Agreed, and that hood wrap looks 🔥🔥🔥
Now do something with turns.
Would be very interesting to see for sure
These days they want 60k for a freaking Civic type-r! I got my gt for 35k. I was looking to add a GT-R, but after this video I'm not at all interested in one.
GT’s have always been fantastic value for money. Especially newer gen’s with better suspension. They’re great cars! Thoroughly enjoyed using this one in the video :)
Even the ecoboost can smoke that type r
Maybe. It would be a good race on paper.
The Type R really wasn’t meant for drag racing. We all knew that before going into this race. We just happened to have both cars available and put them up against one another to have some fun :)
5.0 vs 2.0 of course mustang gt win more power
Yeah but it's not always about power :) There are many other factors that can make a big difference. In this case, we knew the GT would take the win but we mainly wanted to see how well the Type R could keep up with the Mustang
what about type r vs mustang ecoboost?
Yeah that could be a good one! I believe someone else had suggested this as well. We don’t have access to an EcoBoost Mustang right now but if we find one we’ll try and make it happen :)
Eco boost easy 😂
Civic why you not sleep drive?
What does this mean?
WTF 😂 video was until she yell smoke dog.. 😅
“Smoked him” was what she actually said 😂
A 10 speed auto vs a manual transmission is hardly a fair comparison, plus who's drag racing a type R..? it's a circuit track focused car lol
Older GT’s are 6 speed auto, as was the one we raced in this video.
Re: “who‘s drag racing a type R” - pretty sure every auto channel has done a run with one in the 1/4 mile at some point lol. Tons of people have.
For us, we just ran the two cars for fun (which is one of the main points of our channel), and because we had them available, so why not?
Feel free to check out some of our other content
Cheers
@Kingdom Auto still an apples to oranges comparison, put 2 of the same vehicles together 1 with a modern auto and 1 with a 6 speed and the auto will win in a drag race any day. I'm a manual guy but modern autos can shift way faster than I can any day. Not to mention that ones n/a and ones turbocharged. So everytime the type r shifts it has to build boost again. This was just a bad comparison of 2 cars made for completely different purposes.
@Kingdom Auto if you can get your hands on them a more fair comparison would be a track pack 5.0 and a type R on an actual track.
@@Connor78255 😂😂 we’re just out to have fun my friend. You’re taking things a little too seriously. The cars were available and both of the owners wanted to see how their vehicles did in the 1/4 mile against one another.
We all knew the GT would win. The point is just to have a bit of fun.
Cheers
@Kingdom Auto you know what honestly, you're totally right. That's my bad. Keep having fun. 🙏
Give the Type R an entry level tune and you'll smoke the mustang - roll race of course - you'd need a few more mods to be able to beat off a dig
Yeah that makes sense, how fast you want to go all depends on how deep your pockets are eh 😂
We were really surprised at how well that Type R kept up though, thought it did great especially considering it’s not meant for drag racing, but rather quick lap times.
put suspension on the mustang and a tire take off some seats its over with
@@pablosoriano6086 🤣I slap mustangs and 392s all day in type r 🤣
@@user-cd3hd1ob5m i believe it too these new cars love mods
@@user-cd3hd1ob5m fucking liar you wish though
They both looked slow as hell
The 1/4 mile times are on par with real world conditions and track surface. Check them out at the end of the video :) on an actual drag strip there’s no doubt both cars could turn out faster times.
Gap city
The Stang did take the race pretty easily. If the type R could hook up better on the launch it would have been a bit closer but yes the GT takes the W here
if u talk less while driving civic might have a better chance 😀
Haha nah I enjoy talking during the races we film. I’ve driven standard cars all my life so it’s easy to do :)
It was more a case of the fact that we are racing on an unprepped surface (not a sticky launch pad like a formal drag strip has), which made the Civic VERY hard to launch.
So all things considered, the 1/4 mile time we were able to get with the Civic was actually quite good. See the end of the video for the times :)
And they want over 45k for the type r, when i could get a 5.0 mustang that smokes it for 10k less. Id go with the mustang
Absolutely, it’s all about your preference right?
We all knew the Mustang would take the Type R in a straight line. It would be very interesting to see how both cars did around a track :)
But overall, both are a blast to drive and are just designed for very different purposes
a type r can't even keep up with a 6 auto? wack
The Type R really isn't meant for drag racing. If it raced against this Mustang on a track it would very likely win quite easily. But we just wanted to see how well it could keep up because we had both cars available :)
Add that the vert is heavier than a hard top
How can you be happy to win a straight line race in an automatic gt where all you have to do is accelerate and keep the steering wheel stable? Sad.
What’s truly sad is how you can’t tell that we like to have a good time.
Racing anything with an engine is fun. And we have an absolute blast out at the track when we film. We both enjoy everything about cars. How on earth can it be “sad” for people to simply have fun driving a couple cars?
Your comment my friend, is sad.
