For roll racing the Mustang, you need to put the shifter in "S" (doesn't matter which drive mode you're in, though preferably drag mode for roll racing) and then tap a paddle shifter. This puts the transmission into FULL MANUAL mode (if you tap paddle while in "D" on shifter, it's only temporary manual mode...so you can only hold a gear for a few seconds before it goes back to automatic shifting). Then...AS SOON AS the race begins and you floor it...gently pop the shifter back into D. Doing roll racing this way allows you to get the best start and the best shifting. You start in the optimal gear immediately without having to wait for the transmission to "kick down", but then by popping it back into "D", you can then let the transmission upshift automatically at full throttle which it always does better than paddle shifting.
You start out that way but then move the shifter back into D once you go then back to S and just let the transmission do its thing. Actually with my tune I can down shift and floor it and the transmission will shift on its own so I can leave it in whatever mode I want and start in whatever gear I want but the transmission will shift itself after.
Just a week ago I got to race a 392 scat charger in my 2016 stang. Three 70 rolls, a 60 roll and a 40 roll. I'd say we had similar/even mods, my car makes about 500 to the wheels. Results were almost exact to this video, I made a friend that day it was a ton of fun 😂
We should be thankful both cars have existed up to this point. The visual results match the “ on paper” times. Mustang turns more rpms and is lighter. The lesson about higher rpms was learned in the 90’s Honda era. Ford took major notes with the design of the Coyote engine. The larger displacement of the 392 cant make up for the weight disadvantage and rpm disadvantage. Had the 392 been 500 lbs lighter this story doesn’t play out this way. Great run by two great American cars. Sincerely a former 2017 R/T Blacktop owner 🫡

I pretty much knew how this one was going to go just based on the weight difference, but I did think that the mustang would have crossed the finish line a little farther ahead of the charger than it did. I like them both, good video, and thanks.
It doesn't help that the drivers weren't using the 10 speed trans to its full potential, but they also don't daily these things so I wouldn't expect them to know.
Don't see why people use the paddle shifts in these cars, the auto transmission shifts faster on their own. The 10 speed in the Mustang GTs is awesome, they shift fast and hard plus the GT is a lot lighter so it will take the win everytime.

On a roll the LT1 would likewise put a beat down on the Charger and hang right there with the coyote (they didn’t get to crazy speeds). Thanks for the video Sam!
Wait so you think a GT can beat an SS in a dig race? Chevy has a much more torque worthy motor than the GT. I think you got that backwards. Mustangs are roll cars unless modified and even then the to 330 ft is garbage. They shine in roll races though due to the top end. The only reason it won here is because it has a newer transmission and 2 more gears meaning tighter gear ratios paired with higher revs on top of being about 600lbs lighter. And the GT premiums go for 46-54k ish. Honestly I would get the GT before the scat though it’s easier to modify to make gains as no real build is needed of the motor.
@@joshreynolds729 Look up Car and Driver reviews, or Motortrend. Mustang even has a better 0 to 60 than the 10 speed ss. Also better 1/4 and trap speeds. It's not just the torque. The gear ratios maks a difference too.

My big problem with the 5.0L is how gutless it is below 4K RPM, which is where most driving takes place. Yeah, it's fast when you're on the throttle, but just cruising around, it's not a lot of fun. The Hemi and LT1 on the other hand have a lot more brute force down low.
idk, personally the GT more fun to me. The SS does everything right and straight forward. The GT is unpredictable, cruising with a modified exhaust doesnt get old. Overall I will say I like the SS more
I really like this Mustang, though Ford has horrible fit and finish with body and interior gaps. I think it is a great car, especially the next gen Mustang on the horizon. With that, I would take the SRT because it has room for my kids in the back, and that is important to me. Maybe when they are grown, I can get something like the Mustang.
When you take everything into account.. the Charger actually does very good lol. That's a pretty old tried and true platform. I mean mustangs, in stock format were irrelevant (5.0) until about 2018. @Mark Ball documented 1/4 times for the charger scat pack and GT are 12.4s and 12.2s respectively. Just cause this dude couldn’t launch his car doesn’t mean they’re that far off.

Love the pulling power of the 5.0 and the low end torque of the 392
Just a week ago I got to race a 392 scat charger in my 2016 stang.

@@s550tv8 wdym a 5.0 would gap a challenger scat stock for stock lol it couldnt even gap the charger and the challenger weighs 200lbs less lol it would have been a good race. all of the modding stuff you’re saying is mostly true but that has nothing to do with the video
@@bailey4273 wtf you talkin about I do this shit. Even before stock lol fuck the videos your seeing this shit real life😂
I owned 4 mustangs over the past 20 years.. love them.... I have a Scat Charger now because I needed room for the kid.... This is how every race with an A10 goes for me.. top end they get me.. a lot of times ill pull ahead at first but by the end they come around.
As the owner of a GT 5.0, I like this video a lot. Mine's a few years older though so 'only' 435 hp; I know it could beat a 5.7 but not so sure about the 392. Mine has the 6 speed and while it's great fun to drive, I'd much rather drag race it if it had the 10 speed automatic. Consistent, never misses a shift, and isn't near as breakable as the MT82 is reported to be.
😂😂😂😂😂 the guy in the 392 doesn't know what the fuck he was doing
bro what it auto how could he screw thaat up
@@bryarbren the launch control the scat has launch modes that’s how he can screw up
Yet every scat pack wants to race my GT500. Irony
I get the weight thing but, on the dig it’s getting beat by almost 4 cars. I love ford they car do major things with smaller displacement. I own a 2018 Lincoln Continental with the 3.0 twin turbo and it’s a beast.
If yall could see how much these young people think the 392 is faster on tik tok. They just dont know, honestly Ford killed it with the 10-speed, the engine can hold crazy power with mods and without worrying if it will blow, because it wont. And idk if you can say the same about the 6.4 on the dodge. Nonetheless, both cars are clean though no hate on dodge. And cant wait to see the new mustang on road
It's a drag race so you should have used drag mode in the Mustang , because it's worth a legitimate two or three tenths in the quarter mile.
The slo mo at the end of every race like it was close 😂
It actually shows how bad the scat got beat
A actual real race of high quality and finish footage. Good job, thanks
I guess a full back seat and 2 more doors is 600 lbs worth of utility than the Mustang lacks...you beat a four door sedan
Still taking the 4 door boat all day everyday 💪💪💪
Facts
Go ahead. Easy W for a 5.0
@@Jnaszty559 everything is not about speed tho
Lol go ahead. Ford has always made better engines per displacement than dodge or chev, still using the 5.0 and 5.2 when the other two are using 6.2 and 6.4.
@@Mike-mz9cm when they stay together that is lol
I remember when you were at 70k and here we are way over 100k keep it up 👍
🎉 Thank you.
Good job. Clean starts on almost every race.
392 is a beast
Gets gapped by just about everything in its class lol
@@TheAltima94 gapped by what ? For a 4door at 4400 lbs N/A it ain’t too many cars that can mess with it at its price range.
Still faster than 95percent of the cars on the highway so it’s nowhere near slow 😎
@@darrinbrown2332 cuz 95 percent of car on the road are not met to be fast, when the charger meet their match, they always lose.
In the end, it comes down to physics. The extra 600 pounds in the charger requires a lot more power to get that weight moving. The charger didn't do bad, i thought the Mustang would be further ahead at the finish. I like them both though, and if i had to pick one, it would be the Charger, always loved this beast. This past Thanksgiving, my nephew arrived in a Cinnamon Widebody Charger Hellcat, with splitter and diffuser. Man, that thing is a beauty. inside and out.
Well, it has a 6.4-liter engine, I think that Dodge could get a little more horsepower out of it, don't you think?😒
yeah, but then again the result was the exact same from a roll
The Mustang is king!!
Hey Sam can you do alfa Romeo guilia quadrifolio vs mustang 5.0 automatic or Chevy SS curious since the alfa is rwd but has twin turbo v6 and make 500hp or so
A scatpack on a tire will win on a dig I’ve ran 2 10 speed 5.0’s them on stock tires I literally gap them but maybe it just because I’m on a tire 🤷♂️no disrespect to the 5.0 thing is a beast my brother owns one I enjoy driving it all the time 😂
Charger 392 is still the best option for everyday use......more room!
Right. But these videos don't never show a top end race in which it would quite all these 5.0 lovers all the way down. Always these short road races lol. 5.0 top speed 162 mph and the chargers 187 mph . So let them get squirrel nuts rocks off.
buy an suv if you need more room. lmao
Lol .....I have jeep grand cherokee srt 392 and I'm 67
Am I the only one that seems to notice that the dodge muscle cars are highly overrated, hp lying, boats lol
Nah they make the hp they say they do they just weigh so much. That scatpack would need to make closer to 550-570 crank to beat the mustang
Those pushrod hemis got nothing at the top end. Torque monsters though.
Charger is still 700lbs overweight
It literally makes more horsepower than the coyote.
This is all about the 700lb weight difference.
@@ianrs6310 who's fault is that? Dodge made the car go tell them that not us.
