The song was written by Sebastian Bach about his friend Steven Adler, the drummer in Guns N' Roses who had such a bad heroin addiction that he was fired from the band and while they went on to be one of the biggest bands in the world his life spiraled downwards, to the point that five years after this song he had a drug related stroke that has left him with partial facial paralysis ever since. Also, Slave to the Grind is one of the best rock albums ever made. Period.

I have NEVER heard a voice like Sebastian Bach’s voice. I am left speechless, overawed, emotional and just basically blown away by his talent. Why oh why wasn’t he given more recognition for his talent? Without a doubt he had the best voice of the 80’s/90’s. It sleighs me every time I hear this song - those were the days when music was real music. No autotune just pure talent. There were many famous bands who I enjoyed listening to during that era, but non could hold a candle to Sebastian. One in a million. It’s sad that his band Skid Row just couldn’t hold it together for more than the two albums they made. Personality clashes etc. But they did themselves out of a great future playing together. They could perform absolute magic on that stage thrilling millions of fans, yet for some reason they couldn’t stand each other when not performing. SHAME A REAL SHAME!! This entire album is a vocal masterpiece. Sebastian's peak as a vocalist. Just incredible. He said he blew out his voice making this record, and you can understand why. He held nothing back. Every ounce of emotion and soul went into every note that he sang on the Slave To The Grind album.
Wasted time always gives me chills when I hear it and brings tears to my eyes cause of knowing that the song is about Sebastian backs friend Steven Adler former Guns N’ Roses drummer with his battle with heroin

Had Skid Row come along just a few years earlier they would have absolutely dominated, for far longer than they got to. This era pushing into the early 90’s is really interesting to look back into, the 80’s was gone and we hadn’t accepted that yet. The Cold War was over, grunge was making inroads and we got to see a really early Internet. Sad in one way but opened a whole new world of music in the 90’s. Despite being an 80’s hair metal die hard, I lived it, I really do love the variety the 90’s brought us. Film too in that period, there was SO much around, all with banger soundtracks.
I'm 46 so can relate to this as someone who was into metal like Iron Maiden, thrash (Metallica), tge hair bands in the 80s & even some bof the pop like tge Cure & then came grunge & bands like AIC, & other crazy stuff like Primus. We had such phenomenal music! And your right the movies of tge 80s was next level.
And let's remember...this was recorded before Autotune was even invented...pure singing talent here! None of the Computer Recorded Autotuned Pop (CRAP) we here today!
So powerful and REAL; he left it all on the stage and you can see how invested in this song he was and how it really affected him watching his friend spiral down. One of their best.
This still makes me cry...Sebastian was feeling that to his core and he didn't hold back. And I'd just like to say that Scotti did such an amazing job in this song. They all brought their A game but Scotti's solo mirrored Sebastian's agony so beautifully.
I searched “Skid Row Wasted Time” reaction…and YOU had just posted this earlier…and I was SOOO STOKED!! One of my favorite songs…and I love your reactions my friend. You DID NOT disappoint. Much love.
This song hit me like a ton of bricks when it was released because i was going through a similar situation with my brother, unfortunately things got the better of him not long after the song came out.
This was written by the Singer Sebastian Bach's Best Friend ex drummer of guns & Rose's who was out of control addicted to heavy drugs fortunately he hasn't passed away yet
Aileen you have such an emotional connection to music. You feel the ups and downs in songs. From the wail of a good guitar riff to the scream of a singer. You are amazing girl. I love you.
Fun trivia fact: this album, Slave to the Grind was the 1st metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard chart. Due to the introduction of Soundscan, which electronically tracked album sales nationwide. Back in the old old days, Billboard would call certain record stores and ask what albums were selling, giving an inaccurate picture of what may have been popular.
Watching someone you love go through addiction. Watching the one you love die every day in front of you, every day. The quilt you feel. Finding them in there last moments. holding them as they take there last breath. I miss my friend......
Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach wrote the lyrics to this song about his friend Steven Adler, who was the original drummer for Guns N' Roses. Adler had a severe heroin addiction that affected his performance, and the band fired him in 1990. He struggled with addiction for most of his life, even appearing on the TV show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2008.
At a point, Baz knew, yeah, we party, but in his book he said he walked into the bathroom and when he saw Adler unconscious with a needle hanging out of his arm, it just really stunned him. Hard to believe Rachel Bolan called this, "The worst piece of crap they ever did". Jealous much, Bolan? Even after the stroke (and several heart attacks), Adler's still kicking-- and he and Baz are still friends! He also wrote the lyrics to "In a Darkened Room"-- beautifully performed song on a very sad subject. Baz seems to write about personal stuff, so I don't like to think too deep on this one but it's one of their best!
I had a friend who was like the little brother I never had that died way too young. Every time I hear this song I think of him and my eyes well up with tears.
Wow Aileen, been waiting for your reaction to this beautiful track....GOOD REACTION ! I got goosebumps watching this... Every guy wants to be like Sebastian back in the day.. Yes his voice is 1 in a million.. No one can ever come close up to this day... Lol
Sebastian has endured alot of pain. Not only does it show when singing, anyone who has met him say " hes an awesome guy." He is able to express anguish perectly. Only one who knows that pain can sing it for others who do too and alot of young and old do.
I get the chills whenever I hear this song. I lost someone I loved dearly to heroin addiction and we were together over 23yrs our son thankfully doesn’t even have an inkling to go near anything drug related. However I warn people All the time. It can be one and done.

Great song and one that I had not heard before. Loved the reaction and the reflection on it. I definitely had some things like that before I turned 30, and I still have those questioning moments even still at 36, particularly in spending so much of my life saying I wanted to be a writer but not really doing much about it.

Love Skid Row!! 🤘🏻 A couple others to check out...Quicksand Jesus, In a Darkened Room, or for something more upbeat, Slave to the Grind!
Back in the day skid row was a hell of a concert. It started pouring down rain so bad the tarps over the stage collapsed spilling water all over the band and equipment. They pulled Sébastien off to the side had a chat he came back and said. They tried to tell me the show is over I told them f#ck it we will all fry together and played for another 2 hours.

A few are immensely talented on pointing out the technical aspects, some you just want to see how they react in general but you get your own lane AileenSenpai. You seem to really get the music and connect with it in what I envision the artists hoped the listeners would hear and feel.
This was very personal for Skid Row. They toured with GnR for their first album all summer long. They became very good friends. This is about Steven Adlers heroine addiction that eventually led to his being fired from GnR. One of the greatest rock ballads ever recorded. The message carries so much weight. Its a timeless classic.

I would like to ask you to comment on another incredible voice I happened to "stumble" over on UA-cam. Her name is Tori Holub. Now, my old ears aren't the best anymore, but, After hearing her sing the legendary song from The Carpenters "We've only just begun", I could swear I heard the reincarnation of Karen Carpenter! If you would take the time to listen to her, I would be more than grateful. Thank you so much! Until your next great analysis! Bye!
This is off of Skid Row’s 2nd album, “Slave To The Grind”, which came at the end of the ‘hair metal’ era, right before the Seattle sound took over in the early 90’s. It’s a total banger, every track was awesome, which is saying something as their 1st album was the one with the big crossover hits. Side note the kid used in this video is the same kid who played “Jeremy” in the Pearl Jam video.
Slave to the Grind/Monkey Business was one of the best concerts I've been too. 11 rows back at the epicenter of sound. Crickets invaded my brothers apartment, I thought when we got home, but no. Was my ears still ringing .

sebastian was definitely 1 in a million , NO doubt
The song is for his friend, first Guns n' Roses drummer. Sabastian is one of best vocals ever. I am into Skid Row since day one. Now I am 46 and happy that people still like Skid Row. Love from Croatia.
In his prime, Bach was untouchable as a singer
I grew up with bands like Skid Row in high school. I watched them live as they opened for Kiss in Portland Maine in 2000. I honestly never heard this song before. Made me cry.
Sebastian Bach wrote the lyrics to the song “Wasted Time” about his friend Steven Adler, who was the original drummer for Guns N' Roses. Adler had a severe heroin addiction that affected his performance, and the band fired him in 1990. He struggled with addiction for most of his life,
My absolute favorite singer from those days. Power control the rock star image perfect front man.
That voice is absolutely gorgeous 😢.
My thing is if you are going to play a video
. like this ... there's a heavy story behind it....that is why singers like this are to be recognized....this is a true singer...that dumps everything they have into their songs.....
3:54 - 4:20 as someone turning 30 this month, you put it so perfectly that I’m envious of your ramblings! Don’t ever stop Aileen, your tangents add so much to your reactions and make you THAT MUCH more relatable, which I didn’t think was possible! 😊 Have an amazing day ❤️🖤
Still listening to the first two albums on a regular basis since I was a kid, those boys (snake Sabo and Scotty hill) just shred those fretboards....and then there's Bach's singing! 💥Boom, magic.🎸🙏🤘
Happy would’ve been birthday Matt, miss you bro. 🙏thank you ma’am for bringing me back here today to remember 🙏
The power to grip someone’s soul with your voice and story is real life super human power
Sebastian Bach in 90..he was amazing.
voice... WOW❤️😱
Sebastian had one of the best voices back in the day. I seen Skid Row 15 times back in the 80's and 4 times in the 90's
Watching someone you love go through addiction. Watching the one you love die every day in front of you, every day. The quilt you feel. Finding them in there last moments. holding them as they take there last breath. I miss my friend......
Masterpiece. There’s nobody comparable
Prime Sebastian was something else.
Lol
Loved your reaction to this one!! Keep up the great work!
Sebastian has endured alot of pain. Not only does it show when singing, anyone who has met him say " hes an awesome guy." He is able to express anguish perectly. Only one who knows that pain can sing it for others who do too and alot of young and old do.
Song chokes me up every time I hear it.
I get the chills whenever I hear this song. I lost someone I loved dearly to heroin addiction and we were together over 23yrs our son thankfully doesn’t even have an inkling to go near anything drug related. However I warn people All the time. It can be one and done.
Stay Positive, NO regrets. We all make decisions to either to be embraced, or scrutinized. Lessons have many shapes
All this album was a masterpiece. One of the last albums of heavy/ rock after the grunge explosion. Great reaction. Enjoy the great era of hardrock/ heavy metal time.
I’ve seen them a few times with Sebastian back in the day. The first time they were supported by Pantera. Incredible show
Never heard skidrow before. Thank you for allowing me to listen I enjoyed it immensley. If you are taking requests, I would like to request one from the 70s from a Canadian Legend Gordon Lightfoot "the wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald" or "If you could read my mind". Thanks.
Epic song, the delivery conveys so much emotion. Just brilliant.
Thank you Aileen! Top shelf content. Certain songs from this era, are painful and personal to me. So many lost friends who left so much behind.
Great song and one that I had not heard before. Loved the reaction and the reflection on it. I definitely had some things like that before I turned 30, and I still have those questioning moments even still at 36, particularly in spending so much of my life saying I wanted to be a writer but not really doing much about it.
I love this song. And Sebastian s voice still has this awesome sound.
I've loved this song since it's release in '92 and it gets more meaningful to me every year since
It was written about Steven Adler, the original Guns and Roses drummer, who has battled massive addiction for years.
I am 62 years old.
I still love this song.
one of my favorite songs. it gets me in the guts the same way. so awesome to see the emotion in your face.
New to your channel! Been binging it a bit the last couple days. Literally just came from watching your reaction to "I Remember You" when I saw you just posted this one.
I teared up watching this reaction.
Had you cried, id have lost it and balled by eyes out.
You almost had me 😢😢😢
what an amazing song and voice. and yes this song was written about his friend and former guns and roses drummer Steve Adler
There are a handful of reaction channels I watch and all for different reasons. A few are immensely talented on pointing out the technical aspects, some you just want to see how they react in general but you get your own lane AileenSenpai. You seem to really get the music and connect with it in what I envision the artists hoped the listeners would hear and feel.
The song wasn't about him he write it about a friend who struggled with drug addiction
4x live btw in 80s and 90s. Twice with VH,PANTERA,COLLECTIVE SOUL AND KISS
It's herion...heroine is a female hero in a movie...fyi
Since the first time I saw you, I knew you understood music and what it gives people. That's why I follow you! Thank you for all you're doing! Now, if I may.
🎶Why can't you believe you can be loved🎶 😥
Slave to the Grind/Monkey Business was one of the best concerts I've been too. 11 rows back at the epicenter of sound. Crickets invaded my brothers apartment, I thought when we got home, but no. Was my ears still ringing .
This was and if my favorite hard rock/metal album EVER.
Hey! So check this out - Sebastian Bach was 23 years old when this song came out. Out of nowhere, he dropped TWO new music videos, at age 56 years old, this year! And i've gotta say...he killed it! His voice has, shockingly, held up nicely with age. I'd love for you check it out! Here's the links - "What Do I Gotta Lose?" from a couple of months ago and "Hold on to the Dream" which dropped YESTERDAY. Hope you enjoy!
