I realize Sebastian always provides a ton of material for vocal coaches to analyze and evaluate. I don’t know if he has ever gotten enough credit for being such a strong metal singer. So I’m glad to see voice teachers really outline his powerful vocal performances.
they guy never stopped taking vocal lessons. He said he always wanted to do better and even when teachers said he couldn't do better he still said I don't care teach me something new!
Best singer of the hair/rock/metal 80's bands. Technically, quality, and so much emotion pouring out of every breath. I watched many vocal coaches review his songs. They're always so blown away on how talented he was in his prime. Love this band.
Yep, my fave genre of music. Hard rock and Heavy Metal bands are like modern versions of Mozart, classical music, operatic theatre. The music composition is quite intensive so it needs vocalists that are strong and powerful yet also able to sing gently at times to match the softer parts of songs and then go back to crescendos. There are many different styles of singing but I have much respect and appreciation for heavy metal rock vocalists especially.
I just saw him live in Kalowna bc and was front row.. Sebastian Back is one still and always will be one of my favorite singers by far. I enjoyed your video thanks
I just stumbled on your channel, Jennifer! This record (Skid Row's second album) was a desert island 🏝 disc for me when I was a teenager! Loved Wasted Time so much. Love your breakdown of Seb's techniques and approach to it too! I'm a new fan! ❤🎉
Nice! I suggested this one on your last Skid Row reaction! Awesome stuff, ain't it? The flexibility, dynamics, expressiveness... mindblowing. I had a student who wanted to sing this particular song, so I spent a lot of time analyzing this song bit by bit. Huge effort, but totally paid off. So many interesting choices. Dude is absolutely fenomenal.
"Quicksand Jesus" is probably the next song. He hits even higher notes at the end of the song, plus simmular ones to this song, if you want to do a third song to get most of the power ballad side. "In a Darkened Room" is one too, but it has similar qualities of "I Remember You" but darker song about child abuse/assault.
Thank you so much for this! Really enjoy getting to understand some of the technical aspects of a voice I've adored for over 30 years. I've never seen anyone match his performance.
Bought the VHS back in the day early August 84 when it was first sold. I tell people that while I'm not over the hill I certainly can see the top of it, lol.
He blew out his voice while recording this song. He had to take a couple of weeks off of singing. This song meant so much to him. He pushed his voice as hard as he could.
80's and 90's era there were many rock singers who had amazing voices, eg: sebastian bach (skid row), steve perry (journey), miljenko matijevic (steelheart), etc....
I saw Sebastian as the lead in Jekyll and Hyde on Broadway here in New York City years ago. He was amazing. The whole play was outstanding but Sebastian was on a different level.
I will always remember seeing Skid Row in 1990. They opened up for Aerosmith. Sebastian was just as good live. Of course, when I saw them, Slave To The Grind album had not come out yet. Sebastian and Skid Row parted ways some time in the 90's. Skid Row has had a few singers front the band since then. Sebastian has his solo stuff and apparently still has quite the voice. He's not the same(over time, are any of us?), but according to a friend of mine who saw him in Toronto last year. He's still pretty good. Anyway, this was the 1st video of yours that I've seen. Quite enjoyed it, loved your analysis and appreciation of Mr. Bach. Someone in the comments already suggested to check out "Quicksand Jesus". I agree with that choice. But might I also recommend "In A Darkened Room"? Loved the video. Keep up the GREAT work, you have a new subscriber! 🙂🙂🙂
I've seen him live multiple times Mostly opening for guns and roses He definitely doesn't have the range he used to but my God he is still a charismatic frontman who gives his all and gets the audience into it
Just saw him live in May, and Holy crap, he still has the amazing vocals...of course not like when he was 18/19 yrs old, but seeing him live, amd we were front row, is a must experience!!! PLUS check.out his new album!!!! He fricken is Rock n Roll!!!!! Amazing songs on album, and sound even better live!!!! He has always been my favorite singer! ❤❤❤❤
Hi Jennifer, I really enjoyed your critique and analysis of Sebastian's singing in this song and your explanation about what is happening physically with the voice is quite informative and fascinating, especially what you noted about how Sebastian put extra emotive emphasis on certain words like "rage." Yes he is a natural at that, being very expressive via his singing voice. I feel very fortunate I grew up during the 80s and 90s era when rock singers were genuinely outstanding, most of them without any professional vocal training but later on in their career they usually do explore vocal training. I think Sebastian may have had some vocal training with Rob Halford from Judas Priest if I recall correctly. I watched a couple home videos Sebastian posted on his YT channel a couple years ago where he analyzes his own performances and compares analog vs digital how different it is regarding warm tones and depth in the vocals and music. Anyway, I'm very glad to see you appreciate Sebastian's vocal prowess!
This Guy!!! Damn!!! Honestly It's just a pleasure to hear him sing I'm so glad I grew up with singers like him & Eddie Vedder. I mean, HOW GOOD IS HE! Darkened Room is exceptional as well.
@JenniferGlatzhofer Forgot to add... also did meet/greet. All 6'3" of gorgeous!! I don't care that we're old now.... at that moment I was 15 again and he was 21 again. I time traveled! 🤣
And his face while he's singing. A couple of times, it looked like he was about to or was crying. I remember wondering why he was so sad when I first saw the video when I was young. I didn't really know what drugs were yet.
Great in-depth reaction. This is my first introduction to this channel and I'm very impressed with your analysis on his singing. I have always been a fan of skid row from my teenage years In the early 90s. I would like to suggest 80/90s rock artist Steelheart "she's gone". There is an amazing studio version stripped back with mainly piano and singer. Would love to hear Jens reaction 👍🏻😬
Best hair metal singer of his era. His own ego sidelined his career after Snake and Rachel hated him. Hollywood needs to make a biopic about Sebastian but he's a once in a generation frontman.
I agree that Sebastian is a once in a generation frontman. It has always been upsetting to me that some Skid Row members refused to get past their personal issues and just acknowledge that they were LUCKY beyond belief that they had Sebastian as their lead singer. Sebastian's voice is what made them distinctive and more than just another 90s hard rock metal band. I sincerely believe they would not have gotten as much noteriety or success on their own without Sebastian. Skid Row musicians are good but Sebastian takes them up to another dimension. I think they couldn't keep up with him! Sebastian is like Ozzy Osbourne in regards to no matter what musicians he is with, he holds his own because he truly has an amazing singing voice and he has trained himself to sing exceptionally well and it's really nice to see his singing ability be validated by professional vocal coaches and reviewers, because in the 90s, there were guys who didn't think it was "cool" to like a guy singer with long beautiful hair, face and body. It was a tough crowd to impress so I'm sure that motivated Sebastian to sing the way he does, which appeals to both male ego and feminine sensitivity.
Watching someone you love go through addiction. The guilt. watching them die little by little every day. Finding them OD'ing, the frantic calls for help. Holding them as they take there last breath. I miss my friend....
Now finish the ballad trio, from Slave to the grind, "In a Darkened room" and "Quicksand Jesus". Another highly recommended cover would be the little wing cover from the EP
A classic from them and one of the best of an era. Not only a great song, lyrics and performance but an absolute amazing vocal performance that cuts down to the bone. On a side note: your reaction and analysis is truly fetching, as the Brits said back in the 60's-lol.
One of the joys of being in my mid 50’s now was being in my early/mid twenties in the late 80’s and early nineties. I saw Skid Row so many times. Sebastian sounded AMAZING live and was (is?) an excellent frontman. There were some primitive versions of autotune available back then, but for most bands, what you see is what you got. It was a fantastic time to be young and to be a rock fan.
I didn't mind all the interruptions. Frankly, I appreciated them because the look of excitement and awe on your face was priceless. IMO, it's why so many Bas fans suggested this song as the follow up to I Remember You. We all know how amazing Sebastian is, but wanted to hear you teach us why. Your next listen should be Slave to the Grind, Monkey Business, In a Darkened Room, or Quicksand Jesus.
I'm just writing, I knew you would definitely like it, I recommended this song to you once (recently)... Thanks for your reaction! One thing: remember that metal music has certain rules, if we want to sing about: love, beauty, Pocahontas, Unicorns, Dream Theater, pop metal, etc. - we use the Major scale... - if the topic is God (negative context), death, failure, betrayal, lack of beer, life in general sucks - it will definitely be Minor. I know, I've been listening and playing this music for almost 40 years, and I'm a professional in reacting to metal music. Warm regards, Jennifer btw: I recommend Opeth (whatever you want, my favorite band, I'm sure patrons will write something to you, if not let me know).
And remember...Autotune hadn't been invented yet...this is real talent! None of the Computer Recorded Autotuned Pop (CRAP) that we're subjected to today.
I think this song is the most powerful Skid row's ballad. Sebastian Bach has his solo song By your side which is powerfull till tears too. And you should definitely react to Steelheart's vocalist Miljenko Matijevic. His vocal range's also just phenomenal!🔥
Next must be, Skidrow : in a darked room, sebastian can change his voice naturally from high until low like a uncle dad deep voice and its very natural, you can tell when he is in interview back then 90s or his live, but now sadly his voice changed changed after he old
Awesome memories growing up listening to Skid Row and seeing them in concert when opening for Guns n Roses. Theres great youtube of this song with his vocals isolated. Could listen to his voice all day.
Steven Adler was the original drummer that fell into the throes of Heroin addiction to the point of having a debilitating stroke, this pain is real for skid row, who tried and failed to stop this downward spiral.

Sebastian cropped out of school at the age of 14 he could sing unreal then
Best singer of the hair/rock/metal 80's bands. Technically, quality, and so much emotion pouring out of every breath. I watched many vocal coaches review his songs. They're always so blown away on how talented he was in his prime. Love this band.
Bach is an incredible singer, cannot go wrong listening to him!
I always said baz has the complete pack for a rockstar the looks, the voice ,the passion ,.he looks like a lion screaming in balllads
Two other great great songs from Skid Row Quicksand jesus and In a darkened room. Superb vocal performances
Sebastian is one of the all-time greats.
80's metal of all sub genres are the best music in history. Best musicianship, lyrics and it's just plain fun.
Damn straight
Yep, my fave genre of music. Hard rock and Heavy Metal bands are like modern versions of Mozart, classical music, operatic theatre. @carrielu98 The musicianship is so far advanced from any other genre of music. And let's face it, pop music, r&b, rap is just talentless crap.
This man has such a fantastic voice and I still absolutely luv to listen to him. Luv your reaction!
It was written by Seb for his friend Steven Adler (drummer in Guns N Roses) about his drug addiction. It meant a great deal to Seb and you can tell.
I agree 💯 with you.
I didn't realise this. Man that's sad.
Settle down rockstar
I just saw him live in Kalowna bc and was front row.. Sebastian Back is one still and always will be one of my favorite singers by far. I enjoyed your video thanks
18 and Life showcases his agility and range. Id live to see you do a reaction video for that one.
I just stumbled on your channel, Jennifer! This record (Skid Row's second album) was a desert island 🏝 disc for me when I was a teenager! Loved Wasted Time so much. Love your breakdown of Seb's techniques and approach to it too! I'm a new fan! ❤🎉

In a darkened Room is a must
Simmular?
I'm not sure why you need it here, but turn on your autocorrect please
YES!!!! Totally agree!!!! Darkened Room is an absolute must
Thank you so much for this! Really enjoy getting to understand some of the technical aspects of a voice I've adored for over 30 years. I've never seen anyone match his performance.
Best song they ever did, one the most memorable sebastian songs of all times♥️
Queensrÿche Take Hold of the Flame Live in Tokyo next.
Another vocal god.
The one from 1984.
In Tokyo!
Bought the VHS back in the day early August 84 when it was first sold. I tell people that while I'm not over the hill I certainly can see the top of it, lol.
Gonna check it out
Who's that ,.the one trick pony😅
He blew out his voice while recording this song. He had to take a couple of weeks off of singing. This song meant so much to him. He pushed his voice as hard as he could.
Everything about this song is incredible. Not only the vocals (perhaps the greatest in the history of rock), but also the melody and the lyrics.

So did I lol. It was awesome
Deeply personal song for Sebastian. So glad Steven is still here. Great lyrics here in this song. Powerful.
She needs to hear Cemetery Gates
Always loved his voice.

“Monkey Business”! Bring the power!
This Guy!!! Damn!!! Honestly It's just a pleasure to hear him sing I'm so glad I grew up with singers like him & Eddie Vedder.
I mean, HOW GOOD IS HE!
Darkened Room is exceptional as well.
Eddie Vedder and Sebastian Bach in the same sentence
They are hundreds of great 80s bands, with incredible singers and guitarists
This song always brings tears to my eyes.
Saw him just 2w ago and it was an awesome show! He has a new album out and it is 🔥. 35y of killer vocals... he is forever my favorite vocalist!!!❤
Ah amazing!
@JenniferGlatzhofer Forgot to add... also did meet/greet. All 6'3" of gorgeous!! I don't care that we're old now.... at that moment I was 15 again and he was 21 again. I time traveled! 🤣
@@metalcubana3004damn 😅
This is why i subscribed, Skid Row reactions! 😅
Wow! When you said therd be interruptions you weren't kidding...
the sadness flows through the guitar especially the guitar solo
I heard that in the playing halfway through the solo too. Long notes from Seb on vocals as well as Scotti Hill on guitar.
Edit: Fixed a typo.
And his face while he's singing. A couple of times, it looked like he was about to or was crying. I remember wondering why he was so sad when I first saw the video when I was young. I didn't really know what drugs were yet.

I loved this band so much with him singing.
Metal singers are the best of the best.
The vocal pull is like the screech of ancient humans and is very powerful.
You are such a living baby doll, Beautiful and talented ❤
Best hair metal singer of his era. His own ego sidelined his career after Snake and Rachel hated him. Hollywood needs to make a biopic about Sebastian but he's a once in a generation frontman.
I’d watch the hell outa that biopic! Good call!

"Quicksand Jesus" is another great Skid Row song !! You should do that one next
Pure emotion. For his friend Steven Adler
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Hey Jen. Another nice reaction video.
Perfect complement to I remember you I've found
Might I suggest 'Livin on a chain gang'?
The song rocks, and he carries his notes for days....seriously shows his vocal capabilities
Frozen ,.may freak her out 😅
Now finish the ballad trio, from Slave to the grind, "In a Darkened room" and "Quicksand Jesus". Another highly recommended cover would be the little wing cover from the EP

Love seeing you react to the music I grew up on. Hoping you do Queensrÿche's "Take Hold of the Flame (Live in Tokyo, 1984)".
I love your reactions and I enjoy them very much every time.. 😊 Thank you for one more... 🌺
Thank you!

I love your reaction to Sebastian Bach!! He is truly one of the best vocalist of all times!
Next you need to try ( quick sand Jesus) next
Another vocal showcase from Sebastian Bach and skid row. You will love it.
Quality!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just writing, I knew you would definitely like it, I recommended this song to you once (recently)...
Thanks for your reaction!

btw: I recommend Opeth (whatever you want, my favorite band, I'm sure patrons will write something to you, if not let me know).
I loved your reactions. Try some Carry on, Time and Wuthering Heights from Angras Band. After Sebastians its my favorite band.
Please react to Shes gone by steelheart. The live version (1990)
Great stuff
Bach is SERVING😊
Gotta check out Steelheart “She’s Gone” unplugged version. It’s amazing.
And remember...Autotune hadn't been invented yet...this is real talent! None of the Computer Recorded Autotuned Pop (CRAP) that we're subjected to today.
Song about Steven Adler Drummer of Guns & Roses Who was a Bad Junkie
Yep. That horse (heroin) is a real MFer.
I move where it goes I'm sought
This song is a total masterpiece
The most entertaining things about these videos are the faces that these people pull while listening to JSB
Do Ric Ocasek of The Cars singing You Are the Girl......mind boggling!
Excellent reaction❤️😎🇺🇸
Now check out his Broadway stuff . Like Jeckyl and Hyde, Rockie Horror . Steven had the world as GNRs drummer and threw it away.
I think this song is the most powerful Skid row's ballad. Sebastian Bach has his solo song By your side which is powerfull till tears too.
And you should definitely react to Steelheart's vocalist Miljenko Matijevic. His vocal range's also just phenomenal!🔥
I love your show
Love the Gen X I grew up in....
If you haven't... check out
Spiritbox- Constance and then holy roller
You should check out Livin on a chain gang off the Slave to the grind album for a vocal experience from Bach!! 🤘🤘
Now you have to do “18 and Life” 😊
Next must be, Skidrow : in a darked room, sebastian can change his voice naturally from high until low like a uncle dad deep voice and its very natural, you can tell when he is in interview back then 90s or his live, but now sadly his voice changed changed after he old
Ah, I couldn't hit play fast enough on this one!
18 and life - please react to that next. Will blow u away.
12:38 is the correct reaction :)
Awesome memories growing up listening to Skid Row and seeing them in concert when opening for Guns n Roses. Theres great youtube of this song with his vocals isolated. Could listen to his voice all day.
This is the 2nd video of yours where you acknowledged the drumming of Rob Affuso.
You're legit...
How about another TOOL reaction. Its been a long time. 🤞✌️
Good point with the straight going into the vibrato. He does it well. (Lara Fabian is the master of that.)
This was written about former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler and his addiction issues.
Next reaction : Skid Row - In a Darkened Room
His birth name is Sebastian Phillip Bierk his last name is pronounced Burk.
Lucy Thomas "Memory"
Steven Adler was the original drummer that fell into the throes of Heroin addiction to the point of having a debilitating stroke, this pain is real for skid row, who tried and failed to stop this downward spiral.
Sebastian's speaking voice is very high and nasal for a 6'4" large man. As an aside, him reading his own autobiography in audiobook form is freaking hilarious. And I hate audiobooks.
She's not paying any attention to what this song is about. If she was, she would know these are not just lyrics he's singing. He's singing with every fiber of his being and if she was paying attention to WHAT he's singing and not how he's singing, she wouldn't be so jovial.
The video and lyrics makes the song self explanatory
This is Baz's most incredible vocals!!!! You need to listen to Quicksand Jesus.❤
I hope she just listens to it straight through without stopping. His greatest vocals ever!
Shes fixing to know soon 😅
Have fun diving down the HUGE RABBIT HOLE that is “ Sebastian Bach” and the band “ Skid Row”!
You need to do Triumph Never Surrender.
Sebastian Bach was such a good looking dude in his youth that a lot of people had a hard time noticing what a great rock vocalist the guy was.
Watching videos of him I was always asking myself "does this guy have a twin sister?".
Well, nowadays, even though he's still a good singer..... he looks like a crazy Karen losing her sxxxt.
Rock on, Sebs.
Love you.
Quicksand Jesus is a great song by them.
