You made my day reacting to this!! This was written by Sebastian about his friend Steve Adler, former drummer of Guns and Roses. He was addicted to heroin and it was out of control. The horse represents "H"... Steve did end up getting clean and didnt die. The lyrics are Bars! Another great song is Youth Gone Wild and 18 & Life, Monkey Business. Thank you for a great reaction! Skid Row rocks!!!!!❤
Also In A Darkened Room is good too.
Underated drummer aß well😢❤❤
I wish the SNL version of monkey business was on YT still I would nag him to death about it lol. It's only on vimeo for some reason
@carriemichelle Don't forget "Slave to the Grind."
@@thegooniverse495 Just watched it. It was good.
80’s hair bands are pure. NO AUTO TUNE.
Sebastián Bach wrote this song about his friend Steven Adler, who at the time was the original drummer for Guns And Roses. Adler was fired due to his heroin addiction. In the 80s, Horse was a popular term for heroin.
Came here to say this. Hello, fellow 80s rocker. 😀
You know you're in bad shape when guns n' roses thinks you're too strung out.
Sorry but this was written and composed by Dave Sabo and Scotty as were most of Skid Row songs.Sebastian nailed the vocals but had no part in the lyrics or composition.Certainly not taking anything from Baz!
Sebastian’s phrasing is unlike any other vocalist in that era!
@@ronaldlewis3338 The song was released in 1991 and written by bandmates Sebastian Bach, Rachel Bolan and Dave "the Snake" Sabo. All 3 are credited writers.
Sebastian Bach still has the killer pipes after all these years. Love him or hate him you can't deny his skill.
Hugely talented and amazing stage presence.
Skid Row were amazing live and Sebastian pipes were LOUD but in tune. Very underrated IMHO. He is right up there as a vocalist for me. Amazing song from an amazing album. 🤘🤘🎶❤️❤️❤️
I think he's more like a centaur with his backend photoshopped out.
Youth Gone Wild is a banger!! S.Bach played lead in Phantom of The Opera for a while…. You’re spot on about his voice. ✌️
Jekyl and Hyde not Phantom
I think it was both. He was also in Jesus Christ superstar.
One of my favorite vocal tracks from Skid Row. 18 In Life is a must listen!
Yes!! 💥
Oh yeah
AGREE
THIS!
also Slave to the Grind!
I also love In a Darkened Room. That's also 🔥🤘🎶🤘
Back in the day, heroin was called "horse"...the person that this song is about, Steven Adler, original Guns 'n Roses drummer, was so addicted to heroin that he was fired from the band.
America - Horse with no name...was that song about heroin? I never connected the 2 in the song or maybe it's has nothing to do with it in this case...just curious.
@@tallgrayandgruesome According to the band, no. It was more about finding that calming safe place in the mind while dealing wit non-stop hectic life. The songwriter said that with all the noise and hustle bustle the most calm serene thing he could think about was the desert.
And to get fired from GnR is a major accomplishment.
Literally saw him live last night and he still got pipes. This was over 30 years ago so obviously time has taken some toll but man, he can still belt it out. I just love him!
18 and Life is still their best song. 40!
I do agree that 18 and life, still to this day remains an Awesome song. But their Best..?? Sebastian’s vocals on this very song, and the meaning behind it, completely out Power 18 and life. But hey, if that’s what you believe. And if that’s the song you love. Then respect for sayin it!!
We all think 18 and Life should be next!
Slave to the Grind! 🤘
18 and life probably their best seller but they have so many good song you can’t say that’s the best with such songs as I remember you, in a darkened room ,Slave to the grind , wasted time very hard to choose
Bach did a decade long stint on Broadway after getting fired from Skid Row, and recently did a run on The Masked Singer. His voice has aged but he's still chops.
Skid row fired him and where are they now?
I loved when he showed up in Gilmour Girls. Lol
He also just released a solo album.
His solo album is fantastic.
Totally got screwed on Mask Singer. He easily was the best that night. Thats when i realized that show is fixed. Knew it was him the first night he sang
Gotta go for the In a Darkened Room video next! Watching him do it live is so amazing!
I agree %170000 with you on this one! ......BUT THEN you MUST get into the heavy shit like Monkey Business and Slave to the grind , also Breaking down is KILLER!!!
That whole album is 🔥🔥🔥 QuickSand Jesus is good too🤘🏽😎
You don’t get much darker, theme-wise, than the child s*x trade. In a Darkened Room is absolutely heartbreaking!
Or Quicksand Jesus
@@trudybrockette1639 I said the same thing 🤘🏽
Youth Gone Wild and Slave to the Grind are worth your time. Great reaction.
Sebastian Bach's voice has a magical quality that allows it to blend seamlessly with any context or melody. In this particular song, you can feel the anguish he experienced. He was mourning the loss of his friend, Steven Adler, who was struggling with drug addiction. The horse is a metaphor for the drug. It was a loss, not physically, because Steven Adler wasn’t dead; he didn't die. But someone addicted, I guess, is dead inside. The emotion in Sebastian’s singing is truly heart-wrenching, and the guitar solo echoes the sound of a cry. His “screams” are filled with the pain he must have felt for his friend. Luckily for him, Stevan Adler survived the addiction, but at some point, he had a stroke due to his abuse of drugs. If you react to songs like Monkey Business, you will find another differentiation in his voice. Quicksand Jesus is just another interpretation of Sebastian’s voice. I am glad you reacted to this song. I hope for more from Skid Row :)
A couple of my favorites are "In a Darkened Room" and "Quicksand Jesus. "Slave to the Grind" was my favorite album.
Mine too. Very underrated album. "In a Darkened Room" really highlights his voice
In A Darkened Room, Quicksand Jesus, Slave To The Grind & Wasted Time best songs off this album in my personal opinion. Monkey Business is a hell of a way to kick off the album as well lol
Sebastian blew his voice out recording this song, and to me it's the most emotionally charged vocal performance in heavy metal history. It's a true masterpiece.
Well, he has it back because he has his own band and is making music again.
@@alricaneshama oh yeah it was just temporary during the recording sessions. After healing it up he went back to finishing that record. And yes, I'm well aware Sebastian's still doing music... LOL
He wasn't happy with the way his vocals sounded originally and spent a few weeks resting and retraining his voice to sing the clean notes clearly
Youth Gone Wild and 18 To Life...two others to add to your list.
I’ve been saying it since the 80’s, BEST ROCK VOICE OF ALL TIME! IMO.
18 and life is another one that is 🔥
Sebastian just dropped a couple of brand new music videos, and I can tell you.... he STILL has those pipes! Yeah, visually, he's showing his age..... but damn does he still sound amazing!
My first wife and I met him after a show back in the early 2000s, and he was a very nice guy. Took a few minutes for each and every fan that waited around after the show to meet him. No extra charge for that, either. The picture I took of him and my wife, her portion of it became the portrait tattoo I got on my chest after she died in 2006 from cancer.
Sebastian is definitely a class act, all the way!
“Glam Metal” or “Hair Metal” wasn’t just about the music, it was also about the look, the crazy hairstyles and outfits. Hence the terms glam & hair.
33 years of listening to this song and it still gives me goosebumps every time!
Lost myself to addiction for a very long time.. I was quite literally dead inside.. I was a walking corpse who just hadn't died yet. Hospitalized for quite a stint due to organ partial failures due to my abuse.
16.5 years clean. So proud to be able to mentor others now.
This BANGER resonates with me looking back at myself prior.
Congratulations on your sobriety!
You have such an amazing and inspirational story. I’m glad you are out there sharing your story to others who can gather the strength to make that change in their lives. One day at a time!!😃😃😃
Keep up the great work on sobriety!!
Ive loved that man since i was 11 years old. I met him in my 30s. I still love him now in my 40s. ❤️
I've loved him since I was 14. Met him when I was 21 and at 45. I still love him.
Did you know about his band and new music?
I'm seeing Sebastian this Sunday at Rams head in Baltimore and I can't wait, his voice is intoxicating🙂
18 and Life you would love!
I had a friend that I knew since I was 6 years old that ended up passing away a couple years ago because of alcoholism. We knew each for over 40 years and couldn’t believe he was gone.
The best friend I ever had and we were like brothers. I miss him everyday and actually tried to get him to quit but he was to far gone. God bless all of you out there struggling with addiction. Get god into your life and you will see a change.
You’re gonna LOVE 18 and life!
18 and Life…next 🎶
The tone you're talking about, we always called it grit. The grit in his voice is amazing!! The Power Ballad is the best thing to come out of the 80's!! So many great songs, we really did grow up in the best generation Gen X for the win!! We were the last to grow up without technology, without smartphones, without social media, we got away with so much!! I'm so happy my daughters will never know some of the dumb sh*t I got away with!!! Sending love to everybody from Louisville Kentucky 😊❤
Completely agree on everything! 😄👏 (From Gothenburg, Sweden)
Sebastian is solo for several years. He just dropped two new singles and I believe there’s an album coming soon. I saw him in the Broadway show Jekyll and Hyde. My 80 year old mom had a massive crush on him. LOL. Took her to the play for Mother’s Day that year. His show are mostly festivals and small venues. He’s aged and his voice is lower so the high notes aren’t as high. But the hair still glows and his personality is still pretty outrageous. Keep in mind, that when he recorded I Remember You, he was 21. At 56, still young, he still does weed and wine. He’s a wild guy. And when he’s drinking? He’s almost scary. He did a TV series, 2006, called Supergroup. Bunch of rockers from other band get together to cut an album. They live in a Hollywood mansion to write and record. His alcohol abuse was raging. Was an enlightened view of rock behind the scenes. Still can find the episodes on UA-cam Tube.
That ish was crazy as hell to watch.
That was goddamned amazing
This Song Breaks my heart. I love Sebastian's Voice and how powerful it is. Thanks for the great reaction.
80’s fashion could be wild sometimes. Especially in the rock/hair metal scene. Mesh shirts and tight leather pants were pretty common. As many others have said, 18 and Life, Youth Gone Wild, and Monkey Business are good ones from this band. And yes, horse was slang for heroin.
He said... Are we amongst friends? What is he wearing? WHAT ARE THOSE!!!???🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Thank you for diving into Skid Row.. YES, they are slept on for sure. In my opinion he was the best vocalist from the hair music days..
Sebastian and Geoff Tate from Queensryche.
Add in Miljenko!
Oh, Then you'll be thrilled to know this.
Sebastian Bach has his own band and is making music again.
And yes, he still sounds just as amazing.
SB was the most amazing singer ever, and not to mention his freaking good looks. OMG!!! Did i say amazing good looks. A beautiful man he was!
Radio stations would play all the power ballads on Friday nights and people would make dedications and requests live on air, calling in over and over and waiting on hold to be heard live and if you were heartbroken you would just sing and cry and it was a whole thing y'all.
This was back when the bulk of us still had all rotary dial phones and calling over and over again was dedication! We would all go to the skating rink on the weekends and Skid Row was always requested.
18 and Life next, please!!!
No one has a voice like Sebastian Bach!
Please check out the band Steelheart and their song, She’s Gone. The lead singer’s voice will blow you away! Not kidding! I can’t explain it because you have to hear it to believe it! This guy has a three octave range, each one higher than the last! Love your reactions and looking forward to seeing what you react to next. Take care! - Gene A.
"the horse stampedes and rages". As others have said, Horse is a reference to "H" or Heroin. Hollywood was ate up with Cocaine and the music business was eyes deep in Heroin back in the 80s. Lots of great creativity with all too high a cost.
He was extremely special. His voice has changed but there will never ever be another Sebastián Bach
Incredible & powerful song about addiction. Great reaction & feedback. Skid Row needs to reunite with Sebastian bc no other vocalist comes close
Man, did his voice ever sound like Janis Joplin at times! I would love to have heard a duet with the two of THEM !! I know that they were from different eras, but together, they would have exploded the sound system !! Sebastian is definitely uniquely talented beyond belief. ❣😲🤤
18 and Life!!!
Regarding the lyrics, "You said you'd never let me down, but the horse stampedes and rages," Horse is a popular name for heroin. The song starts out with lighter drugs like cannabis, and moves onto harder drugs like ecstasy and cocaine and then finishes with heroin. The song ends with the line, "I thought you'd never let it get this far," which was another reference to Adler's heroin addiction. In the video the actor is seen injecting the drug in a public toilet at this line.
He ripped his pants up the backside at the concert all those years ago almost at the beginning…. He laughed, showed the coliseum the rip and just kept on rocking!!!!
"Horse" is a slang term for heroin. This song was written about Steven Adler; the original drummer for Guns N Roses. He battled a very serious heroin addiction, which caused him to have a serious stroke. Steven survived and overcame his addiction.
Thanks for reacting to skid row!❤this song and the emotions of loved ones trapped to drug addictions.
Steelheart - I'll Never Let You Go. Another amazing voice.
In A Darkened Room and 18 And Life are probably my favourite Skid Row songs.
For another mind-bending vocal....Steelheart's I'll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes)
You can put this on the playlist, " wasnt ready." Lol. Very touching reaction you had. It was quite personal to you with the horse appearing. Its songs like this that just change lives. Thank you for the reaction.
I still remember the first time I heard this. 1993 and the boy I liked handed me a Walkman and told me to listen ❤
You're definitely right about Sebastien being special. He's always been quite talented, he's acted (Gilmore Girls), appeared on numerous reality shows and even starred in Jekyll and Hyde the Broadway musical.
Another song you may like by them is Quicksand Jesus.
I think the horse is about withdrawal. "You said you'd never let me down", The person fighting to not use again.
"But the horse stampedes and rages in the name of desperation". Withdrawal symptoms kicking in and making him spiriling down again.
I am a 45 old metal fan, one who listens to many genres inside rock, including extremes like death and black (which I love, btw), but this song is, IMHO, one of the greatest compositions of all time
One of the BETTER "hair bands" of the 80s. Skilled musicians. Saw them twice. Sebastián was classically trained. ❤ One of my TOP 5 80s bands!!
Sebastian Bach spent 7 yrs on Broadway playing the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. He is classically trained. He was also in Gilmore Girls.
When the horse stampedes it rages is a reference to heroin. His friend Steven Adler, who was the original drummer of Guns N Roses had a bad heroin problem.
please do 18 and life and youth Gone wild
He did play Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde on the Broadway
Also Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar.
We named our youngest son after this guy, and the original composer, we thought it was pretty cool name, for two terrific artists, so we named him Sebastian Bach + our last name, he just turned 24 April, 17th, 2024.
Skid Row "18 and life".
This is actually my favorite over "I remember You" although I love that song also.
Skid Row was a band in the 1980's, however their big break out happened in the mid 1990's just right before the grunge music scene started happening.
And now Sebastian has his own band and is making 80's hair metal music again.
Lived in LA - Could be there or NYC. For tight pants, check out Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, He was proud of the "5th Member" of the band...... LOL. If you want to see Sebastian in a great funny role, he was on "Gilmore Girls" joining a teen garage band. They asked if he had experience since he was so old (30's). Said he was in a band, but it just didn't take off. They asked him to play something, and the rest is great. he was only on a dozen or so shows, but each one was a funny take on his career. I am sure you have been told already, the horse references was a name for Heroin in the 70's and 80's. I really like Skid Row - The dude is a modern day Viking!
I believe the horse is symbolic of a hit of Heroin
It’s symbolic of heroin. But that’s splitting hairs. Lol
Youth Gone Wild and Slave to the Grind ... REAL BANGERS !!! THIS IS THE STUFF THAT DEFINES THEM ...
White horse was at one time a name for heroine. The song was written by Sebastian Bach about a close friend who had a severe heroine addiction.
After his break from Skid Row, Baz has done TV and stage and more solo work. He was part of the MTV "SuperGroup" reality-eske tv show and he was a re-occurring regular on Gilmore Girls. Most recently he was a character on The Masked Singer. His work on stage has been amazing and introduced him to whole other audiences. I sat beside a couple of older ladies who were legit in tears on a Saturday matenee showing of Jesus Christ Superstar in Vegas over his performance. If you head over to Sebastian's channel here on youtube there is a perfomance of Patience by him with Duff McKagen that frankly is epic. Some of my favorite of his solo work are Angel Down, Battle with the Bottle and Back in the Saddle.
I am throwing my hat in for 18 and life. My favorite song.
Love watching you learn about hair metal. This is what i grew up on❤
This was a lesser known Skid Row song that was my absolute favorite when I was like 12 yrs old. Couldn't click fast enough, thanks for reacting! Also screw that commercial break lol!! I was straight jamming out and came to a complete halt 😅.
I am glad you followed up this this, it hits hard for anyone that knows or has been in this situation and knows its helplessness
Sebastián Bach's iconic sound has that rasp, that growl, that grit that is undeniable. I think those might be the words you were looking for. 😉
In a Darkened Room and Wuick sand Jesus. His voice is over the top on these two! A must!
This is 1992. He's done opera... and Gilmore Girls. Oh, and Trailer Park Boys. But yeah, Opera.. he's 6'3" tall, and was in his early 20's here... 19 yrs old doing 'I Remember You'.... plus, he had his longtime girlfriend since he was in his late teens, and a baby boy by this point already... he def coulda been a top runway model as well, but was crazy humble on top of it all!! Oh Sebastian...
Brings back so many memories from my teenage years 🙂
My favorite song by them. His voice just penetrates the soul
You should listen to Monkey Business, the first single off this same album. It’s harder and amazing.
Sebastian will be my all time fave since I was 13. I never miss a chance to see him live. Going next month! He is still a great singer and has fun with his crowds. Wasted Time is very meaningful to me. Lost one of my closest friends to herion addiction in 1999. He was a musician, but only made it into Rolling Stone magazine because they did a piece on "the Texas Herion Massacre". Pretty sad. 😢
How did I miss this reaction??? Been WAITING!! ❤
There's a video from a huge show they did (in England, I think?) when they were on tour with Guns 'n' Roses where Bas really shows off his vocal range. You have to see it!
Guitar player was childhood friends with Jon bon Jovi. They agreed whoever made it first would help the other get record deal. Too cool old school
Queensryche songs Empire, I don't believe in love, and Eyes Of A Stranger.
Cinderella songs Shake Me, Gypsy Road, Don't Know What You Got, Nobody's Fool, Somebody Save Me, Shelter Me, and Heartbreak Station.
Feels songs, Little Suzie, Modern Day Cowboy, Edison's Medicine, Song and Emotion, Love Song, Heavens Trail
You would have so much fun doing "Monkey Business" from Skid Row. It's a fun beat and his vicals are amazing as always. MONKEY BUSINESS!! ❤️🙌
One of my favorite songs from Skid Row. I love Sebastian voice! He just came out with a new solo album . I recommend listening to his new album, it id kick ass !
Thank you soooo much for this reaction this was awesome. The horse was another meaning for heroine back in the day and this song was written because of their friend Steven Addler from Guns' and Roses the first drummer turned into a heroine addict and almost died and lost his spot with GnR
You can't pass over 18 and Life. It's got to be their #1.
If my memory serves me correct, Jon Bon Jovi was hanging out at the studio or something and someone told him to come listen to this band and see what he thought. That band was Skid Row. John Bon Jovi was then their champion and helped them get a record deal. Not 100% sure, but if my memory serves me right, that’s what happened.
You should do a song off his new album. I would say, Hold on to the Dream. Sebastian Bach is one of if not the greatest vocalist in rock history.
I saw Sebastian Bach live in 2013, and he still sounded fantastic 25 years down the road
*"You said you'd never let me down, but the horse stampedes and rages in the name of desperation" are the lyrics before they go into the chorus. That's why the horse was in there.*
I came across Sebastian Bach & Skid Row maybe a year or 2 ago. Being a huge fan of 90's rock I was surprised I never really listened to them. But Sebastian's voice is easily up there with with powerhouse vocalists like Chris Cornell & Layne Staley. The whole Slave To The Grind album was added to my 90's playlist just fantastic from start to finish! \m/
Finally! Btw this is the dude lap tops fell on, depicted in watch the world burn. He did plays after Skid row. Rocky Horror picture show and Jekyll and Hyde ( I think). Won’t you ride the white horse.
Saw him in Jekyll and Hyde…. Awesome 😊
Now he needs to do their stuff from Moscow peace fest.
One of the best bands of my era. Such vocal talent..
Did you know that Sebastian Bach has his own band and is making music again?
You have done an excellent job of stockpiling reactions to cover the channel while you are home with your family welcoming your new baby girl. Proud of you. You can obviously juggle with the best of them! ❤ to your new girl, and pride for your big girl for being an awesome big sis💖
He recorded his vocals in one take he wanted the emotion to be real .
If you want to check out a ballad from his solo career, check out 'By Your Side'.In my opinion, neither Bach or the Band reached as high separately as they did together, but this is close.
The h stands for heroin and they use the horses reference. Horse stampedes means the craziness of the withdrawal symptoms. Definitely about Steven adler, from guns n' roses.. I recommend Slave to the Grind the entire album for you to listen to on your own time it's amazing! Monkey Business is something that's really hard you might enjoy, really anything from Slave to the Grind is pretty heavy.
He's was also on broadway as jekyll and hyde . And that was 80s and the look was hot back then
That guitar tone on the solo is fucking sick. Dave the snake sabo
When we got the cd and heard this song for the first time, my friends and I went fucking crazy. Bas' vocals on this one are raw and strong with emotion for his dear friend. Steves still here, bless his heart.
❤ Sebastian! Have loved his voice for 35y and counting....
He is amazing hands down! We always said "If you can read the date on a dime in your back pocket, then your pants fit!" ❤
His voice is glorious! I got to see him on stage in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar back in the early 00s. I melted in my seat. 💜 Thanks for the reaction.
this takes me back man.. playing this as loud as possible with my Pioneer pull out cassette deck...
