So potatoes are bad but Slimfast diets or Nutrisystem diets are ok? LOL POTATO on!!!!
So true. Great comment!!
Best comment ever!
Word!
+Brenda Vann I love this!!
There is more money to be made by Slimfast and Nutrisystem when they pay for advertising time on TV. Potato growers are not a revenue source for cable television. There is no way the so-called "experts" would be "concerned" about the health consequences of eating only Slimfast shakes every day.
What a legend! You've definitely got the right attitude, so much respect for you. Commercial media is bullshit, you're dealing with real life & that's what matters. Potatoes for the win!
How is it possible that a "Nutrition Expert" is completely unaware of the nutritional values of a potato? /facepalm
Sponsored and "educated" by big companies. Including Big Pharma.
It's amazing that the so-called "experts" were so concerned about the risks of eating only potatoes, but expressed no concerns about the health risks of a person being over 100lbs overweight. So glad you proved them all wrong. Those "experts" don't actually know anything about nutrition.
the "experts" continue to amaze!
I'm pretty sure back in the day humans did not have the luxury of eating something out of all the food groups on on a daily basis and they survived... you're doing great! don't listen to the media they are always negative and dramatic anyways.
We're ROOTing for you! (see what I did there?)
+CobraDove nice one ;-)
Dr John McDougall will be so proud of you as am I
One potato, two potato, three potato four, five potato, six potato seven potatovore! Best of Luck to you! Following from Canada!
Bro ! this is awesome. Rise of the Potatovore XD or Potatotarians
+Clinton Kamara Potatovore! That's gold!
Civilizations survived a good 10,000 years on potatoes, so I think you'll be ok;)
+FruityFitNatic NEVER!! PROTEIN DEFICIENCY!!!
+Life Inside A Box
OKAY!!!
+Life Inside A Box =)
+Life Inside A Box Protein is hard on the kidneys, reason I gave up meat, vegetable protein has let me live a full life without kidney pain. 6 protein to small potato
+S Robin for some reason I can't edit my remark so here it is 6percent protein for each small potato. Someone my size only needs 23 percent protein for the kidney to handle properly
Who's here from High Carb Hannah? x
me!
I am :)
+Emilia S Me too!
And me ; )
+Emilia S Me and I'm loving potatoes too!
Your wife sounded so sweet and supportive. :) keep up the good work! 13kg!!!
Go the whole distance Andrew show these fools that the results are positive mate...
Extreme, bizarre? These news people have no clue.
Hayden Napier right? Yet bariatric surgery is mainstream now...lmao
Dude! You're like the Subway guy for potatoes. You should do ads for potato farmers :) Also, not sure if you watched The Martian with Matt Damon but he totally lives on potatoes for 400 odd sols :) Good luck. Keep posting. As someone who never eats potatoes I'm really interested in the progress.
Wow those people are idiots, so annoying! They just don't have the ability to open their mind and resize/learn the truth. I just watched all your videos and you're looking and doing awesome. Keep it up!! Can't wait to follow and support you with this (: goodluck!
Good for you for sticking with what you think is best for you. So many people just don't even know about nutrition. it's really sad but keep up what your doing, it's inspiring and I can't wait to see more results!
Rock On Potato Man 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻You're doing amazing & you're inspiring. These "experts" just want air time. Thanx for sharing your journey.
You're amazing! !! This is amazing !! I am now a huge fan !
Potatoes the most unglamorous bastardised foods on the planet. Also happens to be one of the cheapest, most nutritious, planet friendly foods. Definitely some serious economic forces at play. Spuds for life!
look forward to following your channel. 😀
You've proved them all wrong Andrew, woohoo 👊🏽
"I didn't have any idea that so many people would be so interested in a fat bloke eating spuds".
Gave me a good chuckle!
haha!
You sound exhausted. And you are taking over the world! You are going to change lives! So happy for you. BOTH of us!
I have been wanting to do this for a long time after a lot of research but I you have inspired me to try it for myself. Potato on!
Look at Peru, they live on potatoes, but they have many types of potatoes, so get variety of minerals from the soil. Depends on the soil they are grown in as to the benefit of the potato *use to run a farm with many gardens and fruit trees- it's a science
I think it's awesome what you are doing! :D Can't wait to follow you all year! :D Lots of love fom Denmark!!
Thanks for educating others on the myth about starches making people fat and unhealthy. Let the truth come out!
can,t fault you. Keep up the good work. I have subscribed because I want to see you do really well and put the cynics away x
I'm on day 10 myself with the HCH potato cleanse group. I Feel great!!! You look great!!!
Yes do it for you the negative people doctors are not reading the history the Irish number one they were thin heathy looking. You keep going my friend I started on OCTOBER 1st 2023 I feel great on January 1ST I will step on a scale my goal is 150 pounds I love spuds all the way and do not miss all the fast food and candy.
Sending positive vibes from Canada! :D
You are going to prove all those ignorant people wrong. Awesome!
I found my way here from one of the biggest daily newspapers in Sweden doing a small article about you :)
+Soso Nordin wow! Cool!
Yep, here you are! :)
www.expressen.se/halsoliv/vikt/sjukaste-dieten-har-ar-mannen-som-bara-ater-potatis/
Yass this is when I first found you :) and I’m just now thinking about eating potatoes and doing a potato restart 🤦🏻♀️
It would have been good if The Project gave you time, because unlike Channel 7 and 9, you would have been able to answer all the doubts about protein, fibre etc. Keep it up!
continue with what you're doing and keep encouraging yourself and others.
Potatoes are AWESOME.
Read your story in Florida USA. I'm looking into it more...I'm addicted to food as well.
+Chrissy Fifi good luck!
Well done Andrew and stick to it. I bet if anyone decided to do a fast food diet no one would bat a eyelid, and you wouldn't have the so-called clueless experts criticizing it.
"Supersize Me" was a great demonstration of what insidious harm fast food can do to you, but I think Spudfit has a much smarter example healthwise!
Wow, those dietitians really need to be re-educated. It blows my mind that people would rather try to lose weight by calorie restriction or chemical-laden diet drinks rather than doing whole foods and plenty of it. You keep going and ignore those "experts." I bet the potato farmers are rejoicing!!!
LOL Iron, protein and fiber!!!??? Where do they find these people?
haha! Unfortunately these people are very easy to find.
Well, most doctors and nutritionists know nothing, especially many in Australia, my grandfather died due to their incompetence in Adelaide. You proved them ALL wrong though!!! Love it!! Also love your wife Mandy, she seems so adorable 😀✨💫 Was it channel nine & 7 that filmed you again later eating after a year? That would be fitting 👍🏼
Sorry to hear about your grandfather. The cool thing is that I wasn't trying to prove anything to anyone. Yes it was channels 7 & 9 later in the year.
good luck, spud for the win
"Medical experts" on that field, yeah right. Put John McDougall in the studio and he will tell you what's what. Potato only has been done repeatedly, no problem. The only thing I ever heard that would advise in part against it was a documentary about The Great Famine in Ireland where the potato is praised as a perfect food for humans but it lacks sufficient vitamin A though a bit of buttermilk or some greens would even that out easily. That didn't seem to be a problem in the study done in the 1920s quoted by McDougall though so not sure if that is really accurate.
+NightgauntGer I'm hoping that Dr McDougall will come on an American show called The Doctors, filming next week...
You got mentioned on a radio station in Canada too.
Love it! Will follow throughout the year.
Sidenote: The world is watching so the vid quality needs to be reconsidered. Lighting..maybe uplighting versus ceiling lighting. Also, progress vids going forward need to be a wee shorter...maybe under 4 minutes, but more of them. 👍
+Smudgemom2003 yes I think I need to make them shorter too. No money for lighting and stuff so I'll just make do for now...
Hell yeah, potatoes are great! Looking forward to seeing your journey, love and support.
Just found your channel. Cool stuff man, thanks for sharing.
Make them eat their words. It's a novelty for them, but you know you can do it. People have survived on much less for years. I imagine as with all diets we drink more water. They say water gives us a lot more energy than we imagine. All those KG you have already lost will have made you healthier too. So you show the doubters. Next time they will be insisting you have your say. And it won't be a joking matter,
Good on ya mate! This is an awesome self-challenge you've endeavoured!
+VernePhilleas Thanks!
Go for the gold. WTG with your first month. Outstanding.
👍❤️ good job!
It must feel sweet now to have really schooled all those "expert" @$$hole$! This is a perfect example of how bias and agendas determine what airs in the media too! You go gorgeous!
Thanks man!!
+FoxtrotCharlie2 No, thankyou! :-)
Please make some videos showing some of your recipes!
+row0111 I've only got about 3! I've done one episode of "the spud fit cooking show" and I'll do a few more...
Those people are so ignorant! Just prove them wrong!! I believe in you to continue!!!
Hahaha I must have missed this one, it came up as a recommendation and thought it was recent!! I thought you had put on a load of weight after your dinner out!! Funny watching videos from so long ago. Take that dietitian lady!!!
College educated people believe what they are taught, they do not research things for themselves. Just because you can be paid to be a nutritionist doesn't mean you know what you are talking about!
This is the problem with all that gets interviews, the reason some guests will only do live interviews, because of the editing that gives a different direction than what you believed you presented. The Irish lived on potatoes, and many died when there was the blight, says it all
I say you ROCK! You have a great wife to support you too. I ❤🥔 too.
thanks so much :-)
They seem very insulting.
+FoxtrotCharlie2 Oh well, what can you do? I don't mind :-)
Ugh these dietitians really get my blood boiling! You did a great job.
i love how they don't even realize so many people do this! lol and apparently those nutritionists don't even know what they are talking about
+per5eph0n3 They don't know what they are talking about or how to find out what they are talking about it seems!
Awesome kool!
thankyou! It was a fun day!
Are you taking any supplements? If not, I would recommend taking a B12 supplement. Plant-based foods don't provide any B12. The dirt they're grown in may contain a small amount of B12, but not enough.
I looked into the nutrients of a 2000 calorie diet (I'm not sure how much you eat in a day) made up of about 3/4 potatoes and 1/4 sweet potatoes and you're correct that it provides nearly all the nutrients you need. However, it is very low in selenium and the fat-soluble vitamins E and K. It's also low in calcium but I think you can get enough from potatoes.
I have no idea where people are getting the idea that you lack protein. 2000 calories worth of potatoes provides a little over 50 grams of protein and doesn't lack any amino acid.
You may also want to consider taking an omega-3 supplement, something with selenium, and something containing the fat-soluble vitamins. This is the first video I've watched so sorry if you've already addressed these issues in another video! Good luck on your potato diet!
+Lazy Mimi thanks for doing all that research. I'm eating 3000-4000 cals a day and I'm supplementing B12. Not worried about anything else but we'll see at my next blood tests...
Spud Fit Awesome! I've watched the rest of your videos now and I am excited to follow along on your year of eating potatoes! Good luck!
+Spud Fit
B12 is produced by the bacteria in the mouth, so first thing in the morning all you need to do is swish water in your mouth for 10 seconds or so then swallow. Please read below about B12 also being made in our bodies.
"Maybe a more important consideration than what is to be found
in our foods is that much vitamin B-12 is actually produced by the body
itself. Bacterial flora in the gut, but also bacterial growth in the
mouth, around the teeth and gums, in the nasopharynx, around the
tonsils and tonsillar cypts (another reason not to remove tonsils if
possible), in the folds at the base of the tongue and even in the upper
bronchial tree can produce B-12. The ability of vegans to absorb B-12
synthesized by their own gut microflora is not to be cavalierly
dismissed. Expert researchers in this area certain don't preclude this
possibility (see my references to Victor Herbert below. Also see,
"Contributions of the Microflora of the Small intestine to the Vitamin
B-12 Nutriture of Man" in NUTRITION REVIEWS 38(:274, Aug. 1980; "Vitamin
B-12 Synthesis by Human Small Intestinal Bacteria, NATURE, 1980,
283:781; "Bacterial sythesis of Vitamin B-12 in the Alimentary tract"
LANCET, 1950, 1:486) "
Weird things people are worried about. I'd only be concerned with the low amount of Vit E, omega 3, and Vit K. But even then only because the plan is to do it for such a long period of time. Also, all those are easy to acquire by adding some greens, flax, and nuts occasionally.
+1Lovelife11 We'll see what happens, I think I'll be fine but if not then a teaspoon of flax a day should do it...
+Spud Fit Yeah, I don't think it's a huge deal. I was just posting the things I noticed putting stuff into Cronometer. Slight deficiencies aren't a huge deal and easy to correct. I'm just thinking because of the length of time you'll be doing it for. But, I also don't know your exact food intake.. You can check that yourself easily and if you see one that's low all the time then you know what to add a little of just to make sure. I think it's really great though what you're doing. :) I started making the basis of my meals/calories potatoes too and it's going really well. Excited to see how it goes for you this year. :)
Experts...there are a lot of diet experts, I have followed their 'expert' advice for decades and here I am - still a blob.
I think our Aussie TV "experts" & dieticians are all extremely uneducated. I remember being around 14yrs old and having weekly visits to my dietician and telling her I was eating bread, up & go's and pasta and she was telling me I was having a good, well balanced diet but to make sure I wasn't having too many calories. I'd take their comments with a grain of salt. They'll be the ones eating their words when you're healthier than ever and they are getting chubbier & sicker. It's just a pity that so many people will see that type of media and think they are right. But hopefully there will be a select few who saw your segment and decide to research further and might follow you into health. I went WFPB Vegan after seeing news reporters making fun of Freelee the banana girl and while I don't "carb up" the way she does I do now follow a vegan diet (raw at the moment) and have done since March 2014. Just keep going! You're doing so well 😊
"Experts" are only experts on keeping their business going...
OMG... most people are complete idiots. I'm so glad you don't care about what others think!!!
thankyou!
U SHOWEM.!!!🖒🖒🖒
I'm curious why you peel your potatoes since there is so much nutrition in and just under the skin. Also wondering if you would share your potato pancake recipe. It's fun to share your experiment - thanks :)
+Melody Scott Zindell I don't peel them, the news people just wanted to film me doing it anyway.
+Spud Fit oh~lol!
Your wife is so pretty. Nice to see her face on here.
+Azannah11 Prettiest girl in the world!! :-)
Those news people are daft!
Pancake recipe please.... :)
+Steve Schubert posted to my Facebook page now...
America's First Lady took the potato off the school's lunch menu, It may be back after years, don't know for sure. She isn't a nutritionist or a dietitian
+S Robin Silly move!
Someone should warn him that potatoes contain only trace essential fatty acids. It says in the text that he's not going to eat any oil with the potatoes. I think if he does this, he will end up with a dangerous deficiency.
+Elzo Stubbe 42 days down, so far so good. I think potatoes have enough fat at 2-3% of calories.
Heard about you on my local radio station in Canada, so no oil? No butter ? No salt ? No sugar ? Unless you use sauces I'm assuming ?
+Adele Sand Hi! No I'm not using any oil or butter. I am having a little bit of salt and the sauces I use usually have a little bit of sugar, I use these things sparingly though just for a bit of flavour.
+Spud Fit ok thank you for your reply!!!! Keep going!
I can't believe that's what they are calling experts lol
haha!
ahh makes me want to become a dietitian as these guys clearly have no grasp on nutrition haha
Congrats on all the coverage, I bet you'll show them all with your end of year health check :)
at least they're going to follow your progress! you'll show them just how "unhealthy" this diet is.
Shocking that dieticians do not know the nutritional value of a potato!
Are you having mashed potato and butter?
+Helen Lloyd yes mash but no butter.
I think they are idiots. You'll show them! I'm on my second day eating only potatoes and I feel awesome and can't wait to reach my goals. I've been overweight all my life and this diet feels just right :)
Awesome, you got it!
😂😂😂😂 if you get rid of the skin, ok that a heap less Fibre.
Like any food often the massive fibre is in the skin.
As long as you keep the skin on your all ok🙂.
This didn’t make you look crazy - it made them look non-empathetic! They are not walking in your shoes! You make them uncomfortable because they couldn’t do it!
So kind, thankyou!
Who is laughing now?
Do you consider yourself a vegan?
+Finding Fay yes, for about 8 years now :-)
Spud Fit oh no way that's awesome! I didn't know if you were some typical western-eating guy who just decided on potatoes or not haha :) Vegan power!
