      There is more money to be made by Slimfast and Nutrisystem when they pay for advertising time on TV. Potato growers are not a revenue source for cable television. There is no way the so-called "experts" would be "concerned" about the health consequences of eating only Slimfast shakes every day.

    It's amazing that the so-called "experts" were so concerned about the risks of eating only potatoes, but expressed no concerns about the health risks of a person being over 100lbs overweight. So glad you proved them all wrong. Those "experts" don't actually know anything about nutrition.

    "Medical experts" on that field, yeah right. Put John McDougall in the studio and he will tell you what's what. Potato only has been done repeatedly, no problem. The only thing I ever heard that would advise in part against it was a documentary about The Great Famine in Ireland where the potato is praised as a perfect food for humans but it lacks sufficient vitamin A though a bit of buttermilk or some greens would even that out easily. That didn't seem to be a problem in the study done in the 1920s quoted by McDougall though so not sure if that is really accurate.

    Make them eat their words. It's a novelty for them, but you know you can do it. People have survived on much less for years. I imagine as with all diets we drink more water. They say water gives us a lot more energy than we imagine. All those KG you have already lost will have made you healthier too. So you show the doubters. Next time they will be insisting you have your say. And it won't be a joking matter,

    Are you taking any supplements? If not, I would recommend taking a B12 supplement. Plant-based foods don't provide any B12. The dirt they're grown in may contain a small amount of B12, but not enough.
    I looked into the nutrients of a 2000 calorie diet (I'm not sure how much you eat in a day) made up of about 3/4 potatoes and 1/4 sweet potatoes and you're correct that it provides nearly all the nutrients you need. However, it is very low in selenium and the fat-soluble vitamins E and K. It's also low in calcium but I think you can get enough from potatoes.
    I have no idea where people are getting the idea that you lack protein. 2000 calories worth of potatoes provides a little over 50 grams of protein and doesn't lack any amino acid.
    You may also want to consider taking an omega-3 supplement, something with selenium, and something containing the fat-soluble vitamins. This is the first video I've watched so sorry if you've already addressed these issues in another video! Good luck on your potato diet!

    • @SpudFit
      @SpudFit  8 років тому +2

      +Lazy Mimi thanks for doing all that research. I'm eating 3000-4000 cals a day and I'm supplementing B12. Not worried about anything else but we'll see at my next blood tests...

      B12 is produced by the bacteria in the mouth, so first thing in the morning all you need to do is swish water in your mouth for 10 seconds or so then swallow. Please read below about B12 also being made in our bodies.
      "Maybe a more important consideration than what is to be found
      in our foods is that much vitamin B-12 is actually produced by the body
      itself. Bacterial flora in the gut, but also bacterial growth in the
      mouth, around the teeth and gums, in the nasopharynx, around the
      tonsils and tonsillar cypts (another reason not to remove tonsils if
      possible), in the folds at the base of the tongue and even in the upper
      bronchial tree can produce B-12. The ability of vegans to absorb B-12
      synthesized by their own gut microflora is not to be cavalierly
      dismissed. Expert researchers in this area certain don't preclude this
      possibility (see my references to Victor Herbert below. Also see,
      "Contributions of the Microflora of the Small intestine to the Vitamin
      B-12 Nutriture of Man" in NUTRITION REVIEWS 38(:274, Aug. 1980; "Vitamin
      B-12 Synthesis by Human Small Intestinal Bacteria, NATURE, 1980,
      283:781; "Bacterial sythesis of Vitamin B-12 in the Alimentary tract"
      LANCET, 1950, 1:486) "

    Weird things people are worried about. I'd only be concerned with the low amount of Vit E, omega 3, and Vit K. But even then only because the plan is to do it for such a long period of time. Also, all those are easy to acquire by adding some greens, flax, and nuts occasionally.

    • @SpudFit
      @SpudFit  8 років тому +1

      +1Lovelife11 We'll see what happens, I think I'll be fine but if not then a teaspoon of flax a day should do it...

      +Spud Fit Yeah, I don't think it's a huge deal. I was just posting the things I noticed putting stuff into Cronometer. Slight deficiencies aren't a huge deal and easy to correct. I'm just thinking because of the length of time you'll be doing it for. But, I also don't know your exact food intake.. You can check that yourself easily and if you see one that's low all the time then you know what to add a little of just to make sure. I think it's really great though what you're doing. :) I started making the basis of my meals/calories potatoes too and it's going really well. Excited to see how it goes for you this year. :)

  • @AnitaGray16
    @AnitaGray16 8 років тому +1

    I think our Aussie TV "experts" & dieticians are all extremely uneducated. I remember being around 14yrs old and having weekly visits to my dietician and telling her I was eating bread, up & go's and pasta and she was telling me I was having a good, well balanced diet but to make sure I wasn't having too many calories. I'd take their comments with a grain of salt. They'll be the ones eating their words when you're healthier than ever and they are getting chubbier & sicker. It's just a pity that so many people will see that type of media and think they are right. But hopefully there will be a select few who saw your segment and decide to research further and might follow you into health. I went WFPB Vegan after seeing news reporters making fun of Freelee the banana girl and while I don't "carb up" the way she does I do now follow a vegan diet (raw at the moment) and have done since March 2014. Just keep going! You're doing so well 😊

    America's First Lady took the potato off the school's lunch menu, It may be back after years, don't know for sure. She isn't a nutritionist or a dietitian

    Someone should warn him that potatoes contain only trace essential fatty acids. It says in the text that he's not going to eat any oil with the potatoes. I think if he does this, he will end up with a dangerous deficiency.

      +Elzo Stubbe 42 days down, so far so good. I think potatoes have enough fat at 2-3% of calories.

    Heard about you on my local radio station in Canada, so no oil? No butter ? No salt ? No sugar ? Unless you use sauces I'm assuming ?

      +Adele Sand Hi! No I'm not using any oil or butter. I am having a little bit of salt and the sauces I use usually have a little bit of sugar, I use these things sparingly though just for a bit of flavour.

    Shocking that dieticians do not know the nutritional value of a potato!

    I think they are idiots. You'll show them! I'm on my second day eating only potatoes and I feel awesome and can't wait to reach my goals. I've been overweight all my life and this diet feels just right :)

    😂😂😂😂 if you get rid of the skin, ok that a heap less Fibre.
    Like any food often the massive fibre is in the skin.
    As long as you keep the skin on your all ok🙂.

    Wow, those dietitians really need to be re-educated. It blows my mind that people would rather try to lose weight by calorie restriction or chemical-laden diet drinks rather than doing whole foods and plenty of it. You keep going and ignore those "experts." I bet the potato farmers are rejoicing!!!
