Don’t eat your greens - Spud Fit Challenge

  • People often ask me if it's ok to add other foods to the Spud Fit Challenge. Most commonly I get asked about greens - "Greens are healthy, why can't you eat them? Is it ok if I add some broccoli or spinach to my Spud Fit Challenge?" On top of that I also quite regularly get attacked for supposedly advocating that people avoid eating greens, so let me just start with that first - green vegetables of all kinds (and all other vegetables too) are super healthy and absolutely fantastic for your physical health! I have never and will never advocate avoiding vegetables of any kind permanently. If you want to add in greens or other veggies then perhaps that will work for you too, if you really want to do that then I say go for it! If you want to know why I decided against that then watch...

I started out with Andrew, went from 20 to 14 size, didn't take a year, just months and, I still go back to potatoes, like you, just to stabilize. I always feel so much better on a few days of just potatoes. I got a box load of size 12 jeans, I might just continue potatoes for a while, love to get into them this Spring.

Update on my health--2.5 years since greatly increasing my potato consumption---BUN/creatinine ratio is back down from 23.5 during a LCHF experiment to 16.9, within the normal range, and my A1c is down from 5.7 at its peak to 5.4. So much for the nonsense that potatoes are "bags of sugar that cause diabetes." Thanks to Spudfit and Tatertot for encouraging me to eat more cheap, easy and healthy potatoes!

Another reason to avoid greens is for digestive healing. For some of us with messed up gut flora, greens add a type of fiber that can overwhelm an already stressed system. Potatoes by themselves seem to be a gentle type of fiber that heals.

Andrew this is a very important video for people to watch who are wanting to overcome food addiction even with healthy food primarily because, in this case, it ISN'T the food! It's the emotional attachment to eating itself. It is a distraction in most cases in today's society. I am feeling liberated at Day 69. So many changes have happened with a vow to have a simple basic easy healthy diet. Thank you my friend for taking your time to make this video. 3 pounds from goal weight because of adhering to taters! And, I share! LOL

This is truly excellent and sensible advice. I actually feel a good argument for this is calling it a potato fast! I’m into day 3 and today is first day I feel normal. Have been vegan for a year but no weight loss because I kept eating too high a level of fat from oils and nuts. I’m doing this to reprogram my food habits- eating “healthy” late at night or too much or pivoting from cereals w almond milk to savory vegan meat sandwiches etc and letting calories get out of hand. This is definitely about making food boring and life interesting. Oh and I bought your kindle book today as a way of saying thanks.

I turned to abstinence ... of all those foods that are addicting to me. When I'm in a restaurant is the only time I notice what I'm not indulging in. Wow I could save so much time in the kitchen reducing all the chopping & cooking of other foods & cook only potatoes & eat those ... and have time to do so many different interesting things! I love the chart showing how simple & effective this is!

@Lucy Belle Scott - I am trying to understand the potato diet and I have been eating a lot of potatoes. But what is complicated or time consuming about eating just potatoes and spirulina powder? I am still deciding exactly what kind of potato diet I will follow and for how long I will follow a potato diet. I see videos where people are following a potato diet for 5 days - and that seems like way too short a time period. I want to be comfortable following a potato diet for perhaps many months, but I am currently uncomfortable with the idea of only potatoes.

Very good presentation: Simplify! When I get overwhelmed, I go back to the spud fit potato diet, for a couple of days then go back to adding, could be a package of California Blend frozen vegetables (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower) and a daily pear and apple, cuts down on food storage, preparation, and decisions.
I gave up on sauces, and spices, No longer bother, don't need.

There are other reasons why adding in vegetables might be a bad idea. Vegetables are not as ideal for weighloss as potatoes because they're not as satiating. And if you're like me, and your stomach can't tolerate them, you get diarrhea after eating, and you just end up feeling more hungry.

The lettuce is optional though, but works fine for me even if I'm sensitive. I am doing his banana mono cleanse now, and I have less bloating, more energy, and losing weight, it's great!

Very nice. I love this. I did it for 4 days lol, and then had some dates and natural peanutbutter, but only because they were there! I found that during the first 4 days, that eating this way 100 percent helped with my emotional and binge eating. I love potatoes anyway, so this is great for me. I tried other "islands" before but by the end of the day I wanted cooked foods so badly, and usually it was potatoes of some sort that I was wanting. Now, I'm currently breastfeeding my 3rd child and he has bad reflux, like my oldest did. My oldest I could eat only brown rice and sweet peas for about 9 months. This time around it's potatoes. But what thinking I will do is do potatoes during the week, and then on weekend add in zucchini, spinach and maybe avocado, all foods my baby can also tollerate. Other greens make him fussy etc. I've been vegan since I was 12 and I'm 32. Look for my Instagram @thatveganlinds85

I think short fasts, and intermittent fasts are extremely healthy. I find fasting very do-able, and rather freeing. Whereas calorie counting drove me crazy and never lead to permanent weight loss. Your program ties in closely to Mary's Mini. Anyway, I thought I read somewhere from you that adding vegetables of any sort, slows down weight loss. Did I hear/read that correctly? I've been stuck in an area for awhile, and I want to go on the all potatoes program of yours. BTW, I ordered your first book from Amazon, and it should be here shortly. I look forward to reading it. @@SpudFit I agree completely with the less variety aspect. I've seen it in my own life. I understand about the potatoes only and the requirement for the challenge. However, for anyone not in the challenge, wanting to eat 90%+ potatoes, yet set on having some kind of green vegetable, IMHO the thing to eliminate the aspect of choice would be to have the same vegetable - like maybe only broccoli. I think that's what Chef AJ has for lunch eat day...sweet potatoes and broccoli. Thanks for clarifying that, and I do plan to have potatoes only days too. Morning. I've just found you and your channel. For years I've hated that food has a control over me. I love how you call if food addiction and compare it with the likes of alcoholism. I always want to be a few pounds lighter but it's food not controlling my decisions that I really want to conquer. You seem a great person and I want to try this from now. Was thinking if I should add a floret of Broccoli but just watched your greens video and I get your theory. The least decision making possible. I'm invested sir, thank you and wish me luck.

I think this is brilliant because I have some sort of eating disorder, I don’t know what it is. I’m obsessed with food, always thinking about it. What will I eat, how much? I track all my calories and nutrients. I am super strict about no oil, no animal foods, no refined etc etc. I collect recipes, I plan ahead of time and re evaluate over and over. I constantly change my mind and have such a hard time just deciding what to eat. It’s crazy. I didn’t realize the extent of it till now.
I decided to start the challenge because I want to lose weight. I lost 30 pounds prior to now but I’m stuck and still over weight. But I’m eating so perfectly. It only makes me even more obsessed. (And frustrated, and angry).
I have only begun the challenge today, but already I am feeling relief from the obsession and that’s not even why I started! It wasn’t even a consideration. But I think it’s going to be my biggest benefit because already I am feeling some peace regarding food. It will be nice to get some distance and relief and some peace for a while from my obsession.
I really need this, and I didn’t even know how much I needed this.

4:14 i think you over-complicated, when you are in the store there are many types of potatoes , you select the type which is freshest, no mold , not turning green. Same with greens - you select the greens which look fresh, so when you at home decided to eat- it is potato and then greens - no need to make any decisions , whatever you bought you eat it.
