    Hey so I have the exact same water block on my 50th anniversary edition. What I learned is that there is a point of diminishing returns, you might have higher clocks but you will see less performance. I upped my VRam to 915MHz and had a decrees of about 7 frames while doing Rainbow Six Siege benchmark. My best oc was 2205MHz on the clock (in reality card ran at 2140-2150MHz and 905MHz on the memory. I was able to get 11fps gain from stock with this combination. So seeing more is not actually getting more from what I could gather. My performance now matches a Radeon VII in that specific game. My test was done with an ultra wide monitor at 3440x1440p. I will post all my results in the AMD subreddits if you are interested. Thanks!

    • @convenientEstelle
      @convenientEstelle 4 роки тому +10

      The reason why you saw a fps decrease when overclocking the memory is that gddr is ECC, as the clock increases, errors will pile up and the memory will waste cycles correcting those errors.

    • @ofacefan
      @ofacefan 4 роки тому +1

      I doubt there is any change in the 1080p since the xt at stock clock for 1080 ends up being CPU bound for fps.. 1440p probably does see a small gain though BUT with the soft powerplay and super chilling hes only gaining about 100mhz over just water cooling alone. Fun experiment though.

      But it is recommended not to do so. The 5700xt already was made to perform as much as it could out of the box. Which is why there barely is any gain out of overclocking in games. Compared to the rtx lineup. Being able to get 5-20 fps more is pretty good. While the 5700xt struggles to get 6 fps more in most games.
      Showing that AMD as I said above really wanted to make the card perform good out of the box already so people dont need to oc them further. Hence why they probably made it impossible to oc them any further without modding the card.

    Timmy try using the external power plug for the fans on the Extreme IV when you install it. Less power draw on the card overall seems to effect my 1080ti's power limit. Without the fan it normally wont even hit 120% (my 1080ti's max) but with the fan powered from the card it will hit 123% at times. No clue I didn't think this was a thing till I noticed a significant difference.

    You have to watch with the byski graphics water blocks, I bought one for my 1070ti "Which is a Palit brand that I got for $300 new" which is the exact same as PNY. Checking everything after installing it, the screws that held the acrylic to the metal plate were not secure and started to leak some, not dripping, but it was creeping past the o-ring. I caught it in time and pulled the card, then noticed that some acrylic particles were also left inside from the factory and became stuck in the fins over the gpu die section.
    I had to drain all my coolant, take the water bock apart and clean the fins, tighten it properly and then reinstall it. But it does work great and I don't over clock it though I did clock it to 2000 mhz once during gaming and it stayed around 55 c, but with it running at 1898 mhz stock it only runs between 46 and 48 c during gaming, during normal use it runs about 36 c with just a 120 mm radiator and 800L/hour pump "I opted for no reservoir, I literally have no room for it". I have no room for a larger radiator in my case either since I use a 240 AIO for my ryzen 7 1700, but it is a big difference from the 82 c it would run during gaming with the stock cooler.
    I bought mine on aliexpress for like $119 shipped without the rgb, though it took almost 3 weeks to arrive.

I was unstable at 910-940 but re-stabilized at around 950 or so and was able to get the memory up to 1ghz stable using the power play mod. I'm actually pretty confident it would go higher, but 1ghz is the fastest wattman would allow.

    What if they use a faster GDDR6 memory or even HBM2/3 for the higher end 5800xt or 5900xt?
    It seems there is still performance hiding under there with OC.

    Hearing Timmy Joe say "this isn't going to stop" while talking about his UA-cam channel a month after he gave up is sad. Come back Timmy Joe, we miss you yo!

    I bought one of these blocks for my 8700k to replace an old Swiftech block and gained ~5c in cooling. for the price, i think its awesome. but I am also comparing it to an ~ yo Swiftech 775 block.

    I own a rx 5700 xt Red Devil, but in my apartment (no air conditioning) in the summer it reaches 30+ degrees Celsius and my GPU goes up to 95 degrees. I have just ordered one of these waterblocks for my GPU to make the temps better. Never made a water cooled PC before so I am looking forward to the challenge.
