I agree with Jay. Im a water cooling enthusiast too. I'd throw a block on anything I could but I would recommend anyone who isn't as into wc'ing as I am to purchase a lower end card and slap a block on it.
Not the first time. AMD did the same thing with the R9 290/290x. Forced AIB's to wait months before they were allowed to sell their models. The 290/290x had even worse coolers than these cards. My guess is AMD gets a bigger cut of the profits from their reference models so they delay partners from selling theirs until they've met some internal number of reference models sold.
Delays are caused by RDNA chips shortage. AMD and NVidia also want these custom cards because these custom cards are doing all the sales. No one wants og cards besides HEDT customers with their custom LC, because these cards are unconfortably loud (even RTX refs are loud, but not as loud as 10 Series).
I have been liquid cooling since the slot 1. I use 3M's Fluorinert electric fluid now, and FC-40 is the best replacement for human range of temperatures. It cools is as well as water with 10% glycol.
I water-cooled my rx 5700 with an ek vector block, then flashed it to the 50th anniversary XT BIOS, and locked the frequency to 2.2Ghz, and WOW is this card good! Think the block might need reseated or something tho, TJ hits around 80°c while edge is down around 45-50°c.. but still, this card is running way harder than it was ever intended, and handling anything I throw at it like a champ! If you were going to do a full loop anyway, I would recommend buying the non XT and cooling it as I have done.
2:14 as a computer repair tech I can also confirm, most people let Windows install the basic drivers for them, not going to AMD/Nvidia for the up to date drivers. lol

@@k680B aio 5700(xt) are around the corner, so that's not a valid argument anymore, why i personally rate the 2070s lower than the 5700xt is the fact, that nvidia screws their customers by downgrading the performance with driver "updates" once a new series has been released. happened before (check out the benchmarks old vs new drivers), will happen again! it's the exact opposite with amd gpu's they usually gain up to 10 or 15% in performance compared to release...vega 56/64, rx480/580. so, in one or two years a 5700xt is definitely outperforming a 2070s in 9/10 games.....in some even by a huge amount.

I bought a 5700 XT and ordered the SE waterblock you just tried out. It took quite a bit of thought before I did. The deciding factor was that I have wanted to build a custom loop system for a while, and since I am upgrading my Ryzen 7 1700 system to Ryzen 3000 ( I have not yet decided what processor I am going to use yet ), now seems to be the right time to do it. I am ordering parts one or two at a time, so it is going to take a while. The motherboard and processor are probably my most difficult decisions. There are many good choices, but I want to be sure I get the best parts I can. Like you said in your video, I am doing this because I enjoy it, and a custom loop is something new to learn, so I will just enjoy building the system that much more. None of it makes any sense, but it doesn't have to. It's all for fun, except for the fact I do use my PC for work sometimes. Thanks for the video. I always enjoy them. Any chance you might take a look at the Crosshair 6 Hero with Ryzen 3? That's what I have, and will probably put the Ryzen 3000 CPU in there while I continue to debate the motherboard. I have heard there might be memory frequency limitations due to the T topology memory layout on there. Thanks again for the video.
Yes Jay the default fan curve is really slow, It's o.k upto about 2500rpm after that you can hear it, at 4000rpm it sounds like a jet plane lol....................But it's a really good gpu for the price/performance your getting and I don't regret one bit buying it, it replaced a GTX 1070 and in battlefield V it plays great on DX12 more fps and alot smoother, I've undervolted mine to 1960Mhz/992mV in wattman which gives me a peak boost of just over the stock 1905Mhz with a custom fan curve. The fan gets up to around 2500-2700rpm normal temp 55c, junction temp 63c and I'm very happy with my purchase.
Generally, people who go to the trouble of putting a full cover block on their GPU for an open loop system are doing it for the fun of it rather than NECESSARILY for better price/performance. So the $200 isn't really a factor in the purchasing decision, just the price and potential performance of the GPU it'll go onto
6 months after this video was made I like my jet airliner, thank you very much! Good info, Jay! Thanks! Now I know to keep screwing with my 5700XT now that the drivers have matured a little bit more

I agree with Jay. Im a water cooling enthusiast too. I'd throw a block on anything I could but I would recommend anyone who isn't as into wc'ing as I am to purchase a lower end card and slap a block on it.
Jay + Water Cooling = guaranteed fun =) Thank you, Guys
Haven't finished video yet but the track while installing the card on the bench is awesome! Spot on!
Delayed custom cards because of AMD slowing down the partners... intentional. I'm still waiting mid-august, or maybe September :(
Not the first time.
I'll be waiting till early next year lol , but for CPU not graphics card (:
most of my personalities agree watching jayztwocents is fun and informative.
The 5700xt anniversary is bit more powerful Jay. Love to see you do test and water block on it :) good video though :)
I have been liquid cooling since the slot 1. I use 3M's Fluorinert electric fluid now, and FC-40 is the best replacement for human range of temperatures. It cools is as well as water with 10% glycol.

That was a dark horse of a joke and I love it for all the right reasons.
@@patrickshelley09 You have my respect
I water-cooled my rx 5700 with an ek vector block, then flashed it to the 50th anniversary XT BIOS, and locked the frequency to 2.2Ghz, and WOW is this card good! Think the block might need reseated or something tho, TJ hits around 80°c while edge is down around 45-50°c.. but still, this card is running way harder than it was ever intended, and handling anything I throw at it like a champ! If you were going to do a full loop anyway, I would recommend buying the non XT and cooling it as I have done.
Jay needs to make a follow up Video with the powertables from IgorsLap?
2:14 as a computer repair tech I can also confirm, most people let Windows install the basic drivers for them, not going to AMD/Nvidia for the up to date drivers. lol
I'll wait for a 5900x2 to be released if that ever happens. Much like the R9295x2
Ah yes, that expensive flamethrower of a dual-gpu...
@@colbeh at least it was a most powerful graphics card made by AMD at that time. Havent seen something like that in years.
@@Chuckiele that's because dual gpu support is dying. I ran crossfire and SLI systems for years but my last two systems have been single cards because the support and scaling only exists in benchmarks and a handful of games.
@@KentBurgess I meant it was the last time AMD had the strongest graphics card of that generation, dual gpu or not. I know that it wouldnt make much sense nowadays but looking at infinity fabric and chiplets, I dont think a future AMD dual gpu will act like a dual gpu anyway.

Watercooling was, is and always will be enthusiast thing. Something to do if you like to tinker with stuff, if you enjoy having something different and putting the work in. Or if you just like to push things to the limit. Vast majority are better off without, but this doesn't make it pointless. Because some people have as much fun doing it and tweaking things, as you have gaming on your PC.

@ 15:00.....so, do you honestly recommend a 2070s for ~150$ more over a 5700xt , which is actually faster in a few particular games ?!
/watch?v=_l9FjSLf6sg&t=555s
well, i sure would recommend a gpu that... isn't overheating?
@@k680B
aio 5700(xt) are around the corner, so that's not a valid argument anymore, why i personally rate the 2070s lower than the 5700xt is the fact, that nvidia screws their customers by downgrading the performance with driver "updates" once a new series has been released. happened before (check out the benchmarks old vs new drivers), will happen again!
it's the exact opposite with amd gpu's they usually gain up to 10 or 15% in performance compared to release...vega 56/64, rx480/580.
so, in one or two years a 5700xt is definitely outperforming a 2070s in 9/10 games.....in some even by a huge amount.

my radeon 7 : air cooled = 2030mhz , watercooled 2150mhz... does it worth it : yup ... for 2 or 3 games playing in 4k maxing out the details ... it can even get higher i think but i don't want to put too much voltage even if temps are still ok

450 dollar/euro card with a 200 buck water block. makes no sense. Save the money and get a better card with a better cooler. Who does that?
AMD mouth breathers, that's who.
Dr Evil enthusiasts that love building custom watercooled builds without dropping an insane amount of money on a pc
Generally, people who go to the trouble of putting a full cover block on their GPU for an open loop system are doing it for the fun of it rather than NECESSARILY for better price/performance. So the $200 isn't really a factor in the purchasing decision, just the price and potential performance of the GPU it'll go onto
