@@seanthenetworkguy8024 Depends on what you want to do but the 3000 series is actually super compelling for more professional workloads. Saying that, even for gaming and streaming they're good parts. I'm looking into getting a 3700X for my rig as I seldom use AVX unless a game or program mandates it. This for me is less important though as my PC gets used mostly for non-AVX video rendering and encoding with OpenCL acceleration, so a Zen chip in my workloads ends up being within margin of error of a 9900. I'll be honest though. I kinda miss the 1650 v1 that I have now dedicated to Server duty for gaming. that thing was a monster of a 6-core for its age!

GPU wise most of these machines run GTX 970s (Upgraded from the GTX 780s they were delivered with), 2 of them run GTX 1080s and another 2 of them run original Titan Xs (these four machines run out VR suite (2 HTC Vives, 2 Oculus Rifts).

This video made me cinebench r15 my computer, which made me realize that for some reason my computer has lost its OC settings, and I only scored 828 on a 6700K.
Gonna have to look into what happened to the OC, but I happen to be waiting on some new parts for the PC at the moment, including a new hard drive, so it'll have to wait until I'm done, as I plan on doing a full rebuild of the computer and reinstall any way.
Edit: Speaking of 4770k, my old PC has a 4770k, but the AIO on it broke (and didn't indicate that it had broken), so it looked like something was severely wrong with the PC, as the PC reported normal temperatures, but would constantly shut down claiming overheating.

I used the vice technique on my 4790k, although i did it cold and did scuff the pcb a bit. No errors to report though which is nice. Didnt plan on selling it so it doesnt bother me at all and my temps are 15c lower for it with arctic mx5

My I7-4790K (Ocked by about 2% ONLY..... for now... when times come that it will require more i'll add more OC) is solid as a rock and still kickin in hard as hell. So if you have one, you are ok for other 10 years at least..

I am still running my i7 4770k in a coolermaster HAF 932 case. It has been running everyday for the last 5 years over clocked to 4.5ghz on a XSPC custom water loop. Next month I am building a new rig and going Ryzen. I want to say that 4770k was 300ish dollars when I bought it.

I waited and bought the i7 3770K because it had PCI-e 3.0 at the time and was a 22nm shrink. Even now today it still running strong at 4.7GHz but it can run at 5GHz once delided and the boards BCLK raised a bit. Also don't be afraid to raise the Vcore past 1.450v if needed. If the temps are in check. i just needed a better cooler. With these 22nm CPU's there some skillz needed to push these chips. I have it on a Z77 ASRock Extreme 4 that has a 8phase Vcore intersil VRM. I've bought all my CPU's from Micro Center and they have always been great overclocking chips. Just last year i bought the 8700K for $280 and the z370 Aorus Gaming 7 to go with it for $150. and that chip can run 5.3Ghz at 1.390v. That's better than silicon lottery's top 5%. I was definitely surprised and wondered why anyone would return such a good chip. Its not even delided. I have it at 1.250v at 5Ghz on air. and couldn't be happier with that chip. The MC i go to has crazy deals on open-box or damaged box hardware. I know not everyone has the option to hit up a Micro Center but, if you get a chance, i would go and pick up some good deals.

Even if it is not much of a good idea to do on a brand new cpu if you want the best result, you could do like Der8auer by skipping the IHS and install the cooler directly on the contact area of the cpu not unlike how cpus in laptops usually comes with.

man I really lost the lottery on my good old 4770k. I can barely get it to 4.3Ghz with a 280mm AIO. And it is such an oven at that frequency that it needs noctua industrial fans @3000rpm to sustain that on all cores at around 80°C. (before delidding and replacing the TIM with liquid metal, anything beyond 4.1Ghz was impossible to cool).
It did me well for many years though. Still, can't wait for my shiny new 3900x to finally arrive with all them juicy cores!

As far as voltage and voltage limitations go, haswell was the first to have integrated voltage regulator (FIVR) and so the motherboard isn't at fault for not being able to push it.

mfw my i7-4770k would only go to 4.4ghz even delidded with 1.3 voltage. These chips really do have a wide variety of binnings.

I myself am running a 1080ti with a 3770. The cpu was bought when I didn't really know much about PC. I am now wanting to upgrade to either a 3900x or 9900k. I wasnt even thinking about the 9900k but with the recent price cut on 9900k it's really on my radar. I do a bunch of editing and I just wanted to go for the 3900x but a 9900k for 405pounds seems like a steal to me. What do you think

You could probably drop temps on that motherboard by replacing the paste on the chipset too. It might help with the voltage issue.
