It gave us a chance to take a unique look at Pro Cycling; the salaries, how teams build rosters and what the riders think of their equipment.

Thanks for having me on gents! Was a load of fun
Great to hear you join the crew! My two favorite pods in one video!
Thanks again for your time Patrick! Great to have someone on who actually knows what they are taking about 😀. Let’s do it again soon 👍🏽
So much Aussie
“Nut this one out” has a very different meaning to Americans.
@@koreystephens hahaha im trying to do that every day
😲This Patrick Broe guy is extremely well-spoken! He would be a hit if he started his own podcast.
Imagine if he had a Belgium cohost too! Wooooooooooooow
This laugh out loud funny. Thanks, I needed that. 🙂
I say bring back the bucket hat 😂
@@ChrisMillerCycling check our LR’s “Ghost fall” video from the Paris-Roubaix Femmes race. Then let’s discuss hats…
Think he'd suit being a lawyer instead
Banging pod. Tyres are a bigger factor in terms of wattage loss than the difference between all the frames. If you're not on corsa speed or conti TR you are giving away multiple watts. (Worse than aero losses too, because rolling drag is always there!). Other than that LR is dead right. Its performance engineering and bike fit/science. That's what makes the difference. If you have a Bigham you're off to a good start. Got a big video coming on pro team kit coming soon. Hopefully better organised than dowsetts.
Hope they tee up one with you and hambini soon.
@@RimBrakeKing uhhhhh. hope not 🤣
Finally, I'm sick to death of all this repeated cycling tech brand worship. If it's not based on solid independent testing, it's either pointless individual opinion, or more likely shills repeating marketing BS. Bust these damn myths.
@@KetzalSterling Agree in part, but be careful what you ask for. PT's salty videos on the new sram mtb derailleur standard in which he made several incorrect assumptions based on internet photos (never seeing the design in person) and his "engineering expertise" ...led folks astray, and got everyone riled up over non-existent design flaws. I think he, Hambini, and the like are a bit of a road show just trying to get viewers angry about everything - in exchange for clicks. Not my favorite corner of cycling youtube.
LEGEND!!! Thanks for that and for clarifying the wattage loss. Excited to see the PT kit vid. Love your work.
Man. Getting the best guests. You guys are already the best podcast in cycling and only getting better
Could listen to Lantern Rouge talk for hours. Being that you both are so well spoken as well, appreciate that you let him carry on with streams of consciousness. Sharp minds all around!
Thanks Ryan, LR is a real pro. We were honoured to have him on.
I remember when Rohan Dennis chose to ride an unbranded BMC instead of the team issued Merida at the 2019 ITT World Champs.
No one mentions how LR's voice is also why a lot tune in to his channel for cycling reportage and analysis. Its a very soothing, relaxed, factual voice. It can lull you to just listen to him for hours and hours. Not shouty and annoying.
"Shimano power meter estimator' lol. #truth
Great interview! Patrick another success story from the Durianrider Universty of UA-cam.
I remember when LR messaged me and asked me for youtube tips a few years back in 2017. He came down to ADL and we did a few vids together. I told him to quit his lawyer job and just put everything into youtube. He did soon after and the rest is history. Where the haters and naysayers at now?
When I want race highlights I go straight to LR's channel. Everyone should.
Your guests recently have been on point and peaked with Lantern Rouge. You need to nurture this relationship and have him on more often.
He’s a real pro
To summarise how w/kg is calculated it is not exactly what the rider did but a theoretical model of what it would be like for a 60kg rider could do. For heavier riders the bike is a smaller percentage of system mass therefore required less w/kg to go same speed as lighter rider. So example, if a 70kg rider reportedly did 7w/kg according to the model, because the model is of a 60kg rider then the 70kg rider may have done less actual w/kg 6.8w/kg for example.
There is a reason your podcast get the first spot on my home page when you upload. I click that shit faster than any Cervelo S5 will ever go.
This was great! Please schedule this guy back. His knowledge is encyclopaedic.
Hats off once again guys. The pods keep getting better and better, no idea how you can keep this up! Stoked to see Patrick on the show
Much appreciated!
Another great interview and show. Guest suggestion: Chris Horner!
The trajectory of the show is phenomenal. Chapeau!
Great show. Hambini next.
Not sure we can accommodate the technical requirements of “the pen” 😉
This one one of the better and more informative cycling discussions I've heard in a long time.
The best Cycling show on UA-cam, keeps getting better.
Agreed!!
Never thought I would be looking forward to an UA-cam video (or podcast) but your channel is one that I always keep an eye out for. The format is great (especially recently with the guest speakers). The balance between performance and general road cycling content is good. Especially for us wannabe pro cyclists. The length of these are perfect for those 1 hour rides I try to slot in during the day so do keep them coming. I do like the different perspectives across different regions/countries on their perception of cycling. Keep these coming! It would be interesting to see some Asia based content also as there's a lot of Brand Whoring out here :)
Great show. I just recently found your channel. Ive been watching cycling since the 80's. We're finally getting podcasts that get into the real nuts and bolts of pro cycling especially with Lanterne explaining the inner workings behind the scenes and the infrastructure of what goes into sustaining a pro team. Really interesting stuff. Thanks.
Awesome! Thank you!
Wonderful video. Business of cycling is behind this veil that needs to be lifted!
I think the craze about the Tarmac Sl7 it's because it's consistently one of the lightest frames (check all the people on weightweenies that have real scale shots) but it's still up there slightly below full aero bikes on the Tour magazine wind tunnel test.
Aeroad 204w
older S5 205w
Dogma F 208w
Sl7 210w
I've also tested the sl7 in the wind tunnel against the new v4rs for Colnago and the specy was faster but wheels definitely make a bigger difference and those rovals are very very fast. Also the UAE Enves are extremely aero.
@ChrisMillerCycling @Jessecoyle
Two of my favorite pods in one! Can’t believe it took me this long to get around to listening. Such a good episode, probably deserves a second watch
Fabulous show guys! The shows you have been doing with your special guests have been pure gold and a fantastic supplement to your regular shows. Awesome!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the collabs we are getting from the big cycling youtubers. Great show and keep up the great work
Excellent Nero Show! Great insight and information regarding pro cycling and cyclist. Thank you.
Your FKN Joking!!! Next level fellas. Who are you going to surprise us with next week? MvDP? Wout? George Hincapie? Just thankyou for your efforts. This is a must watch/listen content for me now, perfect for Zone 2 days.
HAHA!! Thanks Shannon, not sure who those dudes you mentioned are though … do they have a UA-cam channel? 😁
Fave pod yet, mainly bc I love pro racing talk, over training/tech
Great content. Awesome seeing the pod grow
Have followed Lantern Rouge’s race analysis for some time, always learn so much from his vids. A great guest for your show guys, love it, great to hear how LR is leveraging his skills into employment in the world tour…
Excellent video guys. LR’s knowledge is second to none AND he speaks very well. He should get offered a job to call all the races. Plus, all the knowledge he has about riders, bikes and equipment is awesome. You all too of course. All the best guys. ✌️
Thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. Thanks guys!
Our pleasure!
Great episode and Finally someone recognising the Cube Litening - it’s a banging bike very much affordable to mere mortals! Some outlets can’t even say IWC are a world tour team…..
Loved this guys. Really interesting to hear from Patrick.
Thanks for listening
Fantastic! I love this kind of insight. Could listen to Patrick on this kinda stuff all day long..... Gonna have to relisten to this one on the bike with less distractions.
Glad you enjoyed it!
great episode this one. Thanks guys.
The collab we’ve been waiting for!
Great show! Loved the peek behind the curtain with LR! Just great content…once again!
Thanks again!
One of the more intelligent of cycling (media) conversations Ive ever heard. Thanks. 👏👏
Great show. LR is the go to for race highlights .
Was surprised by jomboy reference and I would say LR is succeeding
Great video - LR's input was fascinating 👍.... as was the look on Chris' face as it got more technical by the minute ! Real 'sit at the back of the class' vibes there ! 🤣😂
Great show gentlemen - many thanks. And Patrick, you seem on track to become the Bill James of pro cycling and that would be awesome!
Laterne Rouge! You guys have the best podcast guests, another great show - thanks again for another the hour of entertainment.
Our pleasure! Very lucky to have LR be so generous with his time, a real pro.
Really enjoying the shows folks. Keep it up! Enjoyed the guest also. Will be sure to check out more Lanterne Rouge vids, liked the takes there
Thanks! Will do!
Great pod and love getting more background on LR! Would love to see more Jomboy type stuff on the interesting details!
Very very interesting episode guys. The lantern is so advanced with his knowledge it’s incredible
Keep these podcast shows coming! The banter is fantastic and the guests are super. Kudos :)
Glad you like them!
Two of my fav podcasts combined!
The best chat yet. Great work guys, really interesting topics and insights.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Took a couple of goes to get through but great video, really enjoyed it 👍
The most interesting podcast so far.
Guys, you need to invite more experts like Patrick!
Dead right, LR is pure class. We will always try to mix in guests with our normal chat, we feel there is value in both. I should add, getting the right guest and someone who physically has the time is a real challenge. We were very lucky LR was so generous
Another Excellent Guest👍
Differences in Bikes - like Chris mentioned, a couple of years ago, Guy shows up at our usual Club ride with new bike. After all the oohs, aahs & drooling, the owner / rider says " Different / New Bike, Same Engine"😂🤔
LR is pure class, honoured it have him on.
The guest quality on this cycling channel are really good from an outsiders view. I don’t even watch pro cycling….yet!
Really great show guys!
Best show yet, thanks guys!
Wow, thanks!
another great interview guys
Excellent show! I especially liked the discussion regarding how the current pro-cyclists are going so much faster as a whole than their historical counterparts. Is it doping, is it technological advancements, is it diet, training?? Yeah, those are relevant questions. Been following pro-cycling since the mid-80s, and one thing that is constant: the thrill of the competitions. It was great back in the day, and it's great now.
Great comment Curt, appreciate the thoughts.
who lives in spain , who's their dr. That'll usually tell ya
Great show guys!. Kept me engaged and made my boring zwift climbing endurance session fly by!
Good stuff!
Love this format. Great work guys!
Glad you enjoy it!
This was a good listen.
Excellent episode thanks. The 1hr+ was worthy for this one.
Glad to hear it!
Fantastic guest to have on the show! Love his podcast!
Thanks Glen.
Patrick from LR is a great interview, super knowledgeable.
Another guest who is one of my favourite youtuber/podcaster, awesome stuff!
Glad you enjoy it!
This is an embarrassing omission….i listen to the Lanterene podcast every night as I finds it puts me to sleep. So strange, but it works! 😂😂😂
Top shelf collab 😎
Raul Leuscher is also a big fan of the Cube bikes I noticed.
Shoutout to Cube, I got one back in 21!
Loved it, three of my faves in one video. The show just keeps getting better and better.
Chris, just a small tweak. Feel free to ignore my video OCD disease. Jesse and Patrick were lined up perfectly, same distance from the camera and heads level with each other. You were higher in your seat and further away. Less pleasing to the eye (or at least my eye.) Yep, I got a bit of OCD......
Yeh its very frustrating on the virtual ones. You’ll often see me flip one or two of the guests so the faces look like they are talking to each other (hence the writing behind a person is reversed). But this one was really annoying as LRs shot was super over exposed, so I had to crop in on him, something I couldn’t do on my shot. No worries about the comment Fred, I’m just glad someone noticed.
Cube generally is completely underestimated. Top values on paper and comparatively actually affordable for the top models here in Germany (don't know how export works). They sell you an 7.5kg full on aero bike with deep carbon wheels and second tier electronic groupset for under 5k even after inflation.
And if you're willing to accept the 200 extra grams to dura ace, you could probably ride that thing in TDF no problem
Great work getting LR on the podcast
He’s a great man, a proper podcast pro.
Speicialized teams get more sceince applied to the their bike set ups and they generally use the Specialized tyres which are pretty fast rolling
Absolutely as good as I was expecting from my three favourite cycling commentators 👌🏼
Great to hear you enjoyed it GVS
Fantastic! Again.
Love it Chris! Awesome piece of content
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best guest, please have him on more often
Interesting comment on the team running Giant TT frames. Last years Ironman Kona men's pro race was won by a rider using the Giant Trinity without disc brakes similar to the bikes that Tom dumoulin won the giro and world tt championship. Really shows how far a head that bike design was
Another smooth, informative vid.,
Much appreciated
Great video 🎉
Another great video.
Thanks again!
Great chat lads
Thanks Paddy
Really interesting chat thanks alot
Glad you enjoyed it
Best one yet
Re Dowsett, "It was cool to see a bit of push back in the comments." I was curious about this and went to said comments to see what push back there was and tbf I didn't see much.
Great episode! Love the analytical stuff.
One comment on your question about teams wanting to make sure riders like Jay have burnt a certain number of calories before the final climb. The premiss question doesn’t make sense. At rider at a certain weight and consistent conditions will always burn the same amount of calories for a given distance, doesn’t matter if they go 10km/h or 50. Doesn’t mean the race can’t be made harder by pacing and attacks, but calories will be the same.
Incorrect because wind resistance isn’t lineair
I loved the breakdown of the bulls fighting. I can't remember that race but I remember the breakdown. Also this is my first time watching the channel(I'm a huge LR fan) and does Chris look like Jasper Philipson or is it just me?
Really great video! Yup, have to agree with Nero Cycling Show and LR, the Alex Dowsett video was entertaining for sure, but must be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.
Very interesting, especially the W/kg explanation. Wind is a very curious one. Wind directions around mountains are very variable. Is there some sort of race wind direction data that comes from local sensors?
Patrick is a very smart guy.
So good this one 👊
Glad you like it!
Watching this seems way better than watching GCN stuff these days. The discussion format and truth is good
I don't follow cycle racing at all, but I do listen to LR when the Grand Tours are on cos he makes it fascinating.
Class
Why can I not hit the like button.. 100 times!!
Love LR
Super interesting chat, would love this as a quarterly or every half year check in! We love you Pat!
More to come!
youse got LR on? yep, definitely tier 1 youtube show now.
I got the chain wax vid superglued to my start page as well
Haven’t seen the whole thing yet but did you get Patrick to agree to put race ratings in the title of his race reviews?
Great pod - re the Bianchi , weren’t Jumbo struggling to hit the UCI weight limit and that’s why we saw the all black frames ? Therefore, they were keen to move on from Bianchi. Correct me if I’m wrong 😊
Maybe, but the S5 is no where near the weight limit.
