- What happens when a time trialling diesel motor (@nerocoaching) takes on a climber at a mountain grand Fondo? One thing is for sure, we are not leaving anything to chance in the MATE vs MATE showdown.
Hope you enjoy the recap of our experience of the event, one that we decided to have some fun and turn it into a one on one duel over the event.

Isn’t Jesse having started with the rear camera a bit of a spoiler?😂
they both already knew whos gonna get drop 😂
Jesse unCoils, and it's caffeine and rim brakes for the win! Yayyyyyy!
Love the syncing of the cameras, the Strava segment elevation profile and HR, Power and speed, coupled with the podcast studio commentary, must have been such a faff! Great video.
Confirmed faff 😁
We all need more gaff in our lives😂
I thoroughly enjoy Jesse Coyle's attitude of "I am good at this bike thing because I've spent years of my life getting good at it and I am quite talented". It's refreshing having people saying that their good anyway and it has taken years to get there. It's not about the latest tech, or the fanciest training strategy. You have been consistently training for a long time, and you don't try to bullshit us with some new miracle thing.
Chris mate you need an Sworks. Everyone in the know, knows it's like, sooo fast. If you had Spesh equipment you'd probably be WT.
Haha! I know right … they are just “such a fast bike”
"Imagine how good I'd be on a Specialized"
Great ride video! Would love to see more of this type of content
I love this video! The breakdown from two cyclists was super interesting. As a newer cyclist, I always appreciate ride-analysis and lessons-learned videos. Not to mention your friendship.....it's just so cool to see two people be so genuine and authentic with healthy competition and support for each other.
Wanted to write the same comment!)
Very original video, totally different and very entertaining.
"i woulda prob given up if you help on another 2 mins" he says 🤣
Heartbreaking
You guys have just created the 6th monument. More drama, tactics and flexing than all the others combined. Hilarious 🤣
Off to cancel GCN+...
So cool that you guys push to push each other to the limits, and filmed each other.
I wish I could have a friend like that )
That’s the best!!! Most enjoyable watch because it is your mate and you want to beat them more than anyone else the majority of the time. Well done! It’s why I view, you keep it very interesting.
This was AWESOME, love it !
Also chuckled at Jesse’s comment at the end about riding as hard as he ever has vs going over the line together. 😂
Great video guys, so much learning there. Really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
Great analysis and race guys, thanks very much!
Loved it! Amazing overlays and breakdown. Really enjoy this type of content
Fantastic format. I loved watching this. Thanks Guys !
One of the best cycling videos on UA-cam, great content! Such good watching while on the erg.
This. Just awesome content. Thank you for putting in the effort. BUT!! Really looking forward to the Grafton to Inverell report!
Amazing work of both! Thanks for sharing 🙏
Enjoyable video! Nicely done. Hard to have more fun in cycling than when good friends can push each other.
Really enjoyed this vid. Great banter between you both too.
Love this video, your fondo/race videos are second to none. ❤❤❤
Jesse is so right about if you are with friends you have to try and beat them . That's all part of the fun with your mate's.
Really loved JC’s last comment about going all out if it’s just the two of you. 😂 that’s the spirit. This video and the commentary to run through what was happening every moment in your minds was awesome. One of your best videos yet. Cheers.
That was an absolutely awesome video and what a ride from Jesse. Brilliantly carried out strategy.
more of this content, that was brilliant :)
This was really interesting! I always wanted strategies to race bigger guys, so these are fantastic insights.
Absolutely love this content guys!
I really enjoyed watching this video. Well done
Been following you guys a lot lately, but this is probably the best content yet. Loved it, nice work. Also will be stealing Jessies fuelling/caffeine plan
This is a great video. well done lads. would love a few more like it.
Ahh this video is so good. So happy to have found you guys on here.
This kind of content is refreshing. Those data overlay is hot. Love evolving nature of this channel
love the energy in this one!
NO BS a great and honest video thanks .
this is GREAT! well done lads
More of these kinds of videos please, great job guys
Really enjoyed this showdown - the psychology and nutrition aspects were intriguing
Fun & exciting to watch guys. Loved your friendly “we are mates” banter & giggles. Keep it up 😂👌
Definitely want to see more videos like this one guys
Top ride gents, great analysis. The only way Miller could beat Coyle would be for Miller to hide in a group then unleash himself past Coyle on the final climb. Of course Miller would need a hard working group, otherwise Coyle would just pull away - too much zone 2 training on Coyles legs. Now the event for this attempted demolition of Coyle is Peaks Challenge, plenty of high quality groups and if Coyle went too early ... Mt Hotham would have him eating sugar at Dinner Plain! Miller has gone up Mt Hotham at 1_15_33, quicker than Sam Hill and Jai Hindley, just behind Jack Haig and Mark O'Brien - I see no sign of Coyle on the segment, so this is Miller time. No sign of Miller or Coyle on Raspberry Hill (Back of Falls) segment, however this is where Miller's superior pacing up Mt Hotham should pay dividends with fast groups for both boys, this would be a live stream level event. Bring your pedal spanners folks.
Love this video! more like this!.
Great video, very entertaining! 👏
Nice video guys !!! Thanks
LOVED this video!
that norcal thumbnail n intro ... loved this one, more of these !
Wow .. loved this vlog and the banta..fantastic and funny ..u guys kicked ass on the event!!!
love it! thanks guys!
Definitely your best vid yet!!
Nice vid! Looking forward to the Grafton > Inverell debrief
These are the videos that I come to UA-cam to watch, amazing breakdown
Glad you enjoyed it!
very entertaining & informative - had me laughing a lot as well
A nice topic for the show would be: how do you open gels in the bike! Probably use your mouth, but getting a gel and opening it every 20 mins like Coyle did seems like such a chore. Like, fuel on a bottle seems more practical. I would get my hands all sticky with so many gels.
And the mate vs mate dinamic made for a really nice video!
Great video!
Said G'day as you came down Anzac Bridge on Tuesday
This is great viewing loving the videos
Epic!! Almost delicious watching!
Beating a mate is more satisfying than a rival 💯
Those were some very serious efforts. GG on both of you
Great work guys. GG
Wow that was fun to watch.
great video format
Split screens in cycling, what a sight 😃😃
Great video!
Best video to date. JC is a machine?
Do you have guide how you add metrics in video. I using Virb Edit app to put metric on green screen. but your metric is not from virb edit.
The place looks beautiful ❤️
This is awesome 😎
Knicks hat is absolutely diabolical
Great video guys, good stuff. Didn’t guess Jesse was so strong!
The helium balloons painted on the Nero bike will lift you up these clibs
Super nice format
Very enjoyable content
This was really great! Would like to see another race between you two that favors Chris. Although, I will still be rooting for Jesse. ☺
Heads up re: No Doz. I've found for best results have one 60-90 mins before you need it. Comes on slow and smooth, quite a bit different to caffeine in a gel or coffee.
This was wicked to watch
JC must be super strong atm to drop CM (a climber) up the hour climb! Impressive.
Good vid. Cheers.
The shimano power estimator. Haha :D
Great one!
Great stuff! 😄
THIS FORMAT IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video guys!
Thanks Andy
Jesse is living rent free in chris's head ahah ! Love your content guys.
From Camotes Island Cebu Philippines 🇵🇭 Italia 🇮🇹 Venezia 🇮🇹 say God almighty kids, your performance is awesome and perfectly insane thanks for your recording it and explained well the situation about your body reaction ... a single observation looking at the heart rate monitor, in my opinion the last few kilometers you have had a drop in sugar which will have made your heartbeat increase and the watts in your leg and consequently in your wheel decrease.. the videos you made it's interesting keep it up nice Guys cheers 🤗 peace ✌️
Good video lads. I want to see you do a fondo on a tandem!
Awesome content 🎉🎉🎉
Hi, great video. Could you share your nutrition plan in terms of using gels more than fluid? I’m riding the uci masters grab fondo in august and it’s 100 miles and I won’t be able to stop at feeds as it will be full gas so I’m trying to figure out my fuelling plan.
That was fun. Great video.
Chris you know how to play Basketball 🏀?
Great video fellas. A question re: "big hits of caffeine"........is there some point where this becomes dangerous? Ie. elevating heart rate too much.....
No worse than shelving a few pingas every once in a while
This was entertaining.
I'm a Jesse Coyle type rider - Big diesel engine that is amazing on the flat, descents and steady climbs under 5% gradient. People are always really surprised how fast I can cover 160km hilly rides just by climbing steady and keeping my HR down and fueling with 80g+ carbs every hour.
May I know how did u mount the GoPro on the stem?
Chris are you a Knicks fan? Let’s goooooo. Noticed a lot of aussies love the knicks
Wait a minute - did I just hear that right Jesse is way heavier tan Chris? WHAT! I think we need a side by side cause I just assumed Chris was bigger and heavier
In terms of cycling content, you two guys are the most entertaining to watch…for sure. You should consider Durianrider as your next guest. Now THAT would be awesome! 😀
Cool content 👌
How are those two water bottles enough for you throughout the whole ride in terms of hydration? Generally interested in how you approach hydration, since most of your videos are about the caloric aspect of nutrition. Great format btw, more of those!
It was a cold day + we both started with a disposable plastic 600mL bottle in our back pocket with water + an electrolyte tab which we drank over the first 1.5 hours. On the bike I had 1.8L of fluids total, just water with a couple of electrolyte tablets. So 5 hours, 2.5L of fluid total. Finishing slightly dehydrated is expected in a single day event.
@@nerocoaching Thank you, that makes sense! On a hot day, would you take more water in your back pocket or would you do a stop?
Hey Jesse, have you thought of being a pilot on a competitive tandem? Been state nation and Oceania champion
"Does beating your mate beat everything else?" - Hell yes, everytime !
nice watching it, remembers me my Gran Fondo with my friend.
However I have a qustion about caffeine, once I was talking gels with caffeine, but it's diuretic and i had to stop for a pee almost every 30 minutes... all gains were lost...
Now, I'm thinking about talking 200mg (could be that SIS gel) close to the end, so no probs with a toilet.
Don't you have problems with peeing after such amount of caffeine? (I drink a lot of coffee daily)
