Cars containing human remains are regularly discovered in bodies of water. These turn out to be people who disappeared years earlier. If no one sees a vehicle go into the water, and the vehicle isn't visible once it's underwater, that's a baffling disappearance.

Makes me think of Russell and Blanche Warren, who vanished in 1929 driving from Pt. Townsend to their home in Forks. The assumption was that Russell fell asleep at the wheel and drove off Highway 101 somewhere along Lake Crescent, but the car wasn't found for 75 years, and their 2 children were haunted by the uncertainty and possibility their parents had abandoned them.
A similar case in Oklahoma involved a car full of teens who disappeared on a night out in 1970--the missing Camaro and all 6 bodies were recovered from Lake Foss 40 years later.
These things probably happen more frequently than we think.

    • @hebneh
      @hebneh 5 років тому +27

Actually the case of the Camaro was even stranger than that. TWO cars were found next to each other in Foss Lake, Oklahoma. One was an early 1950s Chevrolet with the bones of three adult men who disappeared in 1969. The other was the 1969 Camaro with the remains of two boys and a girl who disappeared in 1970. They were finally both discovered in September 2013.
It gets more weird - about a week later, a 1960 Studebaker was found in Brule Creek, South Dakota, containing the bones of two teenage girls who disappeared in 1971.
Finally, an older case: in 1990, a 1963 Cadillac was found in Lake Hefner, Florida. Inside were the remains of a wealthy woman and her 18 year old daughter who had disappeared in Nov. 1963.

The 70s was such a high time to get kidnapped , raped , or murdered I stg. After the 60s decade of love , the 70s was so run by drugs , crime , & violence ; that after the summer 69 , i feel like many polluted people were around. So much shit went down. Really interesting. The 70s had such a rise in serial killers , rapists , murderers. Everybody was so trusting of eachother during the 60s (hitch hiking etc) and next thing ya know , you'e got a whole bunch of bad people taking advantage of the freedom thinkers. My theory on #1 , I've driven through Alberta to toronto Ontario , the roads through northern Ontario are treacherous and pitch black at night full of wild life with steep drop offs leading to ravines below . they most likely avoided hitting an animal and fell off the side of the road as I don't think there were gard rails back then . If its still like this today imagine then despite the dangers truckers still use this long narrow winding hilly hwy. Many have died along this hwy . Maybe family should investigate along their route through northern Ontario

What horribly old, sad stories; especially the cat, obviously taken out to the desert outside El Paso and abandoned, who still found his way back home, and the two dogs left shut in the house to die in the fire. I can only hope some kind stranger took in the cat and that the dogs and the little boy were dead before the fire. You would think an autopsy could have discovered evidence of death, bullet holes or signs of bludgeoning, etc. It seems the man in the fire case left Fargo with more than an unfinished divorce behind him and whatever it was finally found him. Maybe that's why they were withdrawn in the community. I can't understand the level of anger and hate it would take to destroy everyone and everything though. I am suspicious of the guy who came forward in the teenagers' disappearances 20 or however many years later with the river story. Whatever "forensic scientist" the sister consulted was full of crap. MANY bodies lost in water are never recovered. They get trapped under rocks, fallen trees, discarded crap on the bottom; then decompose and are eaten by whatever is there. Bones can be covered by silt, mud etc. and even if any are washed ashore may be covered by underbrush and probably too small to attract attention or even be thought human. I don't say all this in support of the river story. I think it's BS. Either the guy was a nut and just made it up because of his nuttiness, or more likely, if he ever saw them at all, he and the driver killed and buried them and the river story was caused by some latent guilt and. was his attempt to give the family closure. It's all just heartbreaking. Anyway, even if the El Paso couple were spies called home (Which I doubt, Fort Bliss was a pilot training center in WWII and even though it is close to White Sands the man couldn't get much info taking long distance photos of the ENORMOUS base or trains. They would have been cozying up to officers to get invited to the club and to have invited them home for social occasions.) she would never have abandoned her cat to die. Plus, if their car was there how did they leave? Bus, train, plane, anybody check? Were they drawing money from bank accounts. Whoever did away with them did it for financial gain and whoever it was the business manager who got the telegram was in on it. Nobody dismantles someone's life like that based on one telephoned telegram.

He'd have had to admit to having driven them because it'd be likely someone from camp would have known. But so often that last person is the person responsible. Back in 1976, forensic arson investigation was pretty crude. Standards for fire resistance in furniture and draperies were pretty much nonexistent, so household contents often acted as accelerants in house fires. Even finishes for hardwood floors could be highly flammable. The various house contents could also pour out toxic fumes that often overcame the victims before the flames reached them. I remember reading about several house fires where victims were found in ground floor rooms under easily accessible windows--the toxic fumes overcame them before they could open or break out the windows.
I wonder if Bernard and Peggy Rusness simply happened to be in a part of the house where temps were significantly hotter than where their child and dogs were found. If their remains were under a significant pile of rubble, investigators may not have gone through the rubble pile before it was removed from the site. Or the investigators may have actually seen but failed to recognise charred human remains.
The incomplete divorce was not common but not rare, either. This was before the sort of easy access to public records that exists today and if a divorce proceeding became too expensive for one partner, one solution was to just move without leaving a forwarding address. If a person went to live in a different state, it was very unlikely for that divorce to be completed. Getting married to a different person in a different state was highly unlikely to be discovered.

I guess there is some tiny bit of consolation of meeting your fate with the person you love dearly instead of one of you vanishing and the other left with no answers and hope. I honestly never realized how many people went missing until I started listening to channels like yours. Seems like reports are only local unless there's something very unusual about a case. Keep up the good work!

Too bad the engine in a Volkswagen Bug is in the trunk or the “open hood” seen by the witness may have meant someone was working on it

So what were they looking at under the hood? There's a disturbing thought.

yes, i'm unsure of what she actually saw because i only found one source with her direct quote in it, and even then, she only actually describes half of what she saw, and the other half was just summarized by the reporter who wrote the article. it's unclear to me if the back hood was open and the two people were standing by the front of the car, or she saw two people standing at the front of the car and the front hood was open.
i know it at least some model years the spare tire was in the front of the car, so if the front hood was the one that was open , it would be possible that they were getting it out.

@belinda hawkins yeah that first couple was murdered so were the teens going to the concert these people did not vanish of their own free will those kids were good behaved kids that girl was afraid her dad would die so running away makes no sense she would want to be with him if she was afraid his life was running short of time

*I think the witness about the couple with the Volkswagen bug is either made up, or wasn't the couple at all. When I hear that mulitiple people disappeared while driving, I always think about water. If the vehicles are never located, the water theory doubles. Couples have been found in Oklahoma and other locations after going missing in the 50's and 60's. One couple had backed up to turn around and their jeep went backwards into an old pond, and they had missing since the 80's. If that couple had a canoe and pulled the car to the waters edge to unload it, they could've made a mistake that cost them their lives.*

The area in which the Yakimchucks were last seen is fairly remote even now so 40+ years ago it would have been dead. Not surprising they have not been found.
As for the 2nd story, hitchkiking in the 70's seemed like a death sentence.

Theresa F sad but true. I live in Michigan. ThT is where John Norman Collins-back in the 70’s-killed many people. (The Michigan Murders). A lot were hitchhikers. If you haven’t heard of it read the book. It is a very good book.
